Great little hatchback
Great choice if you like to drive, feels like a premium car in most respects. The ride is firm but still comfortable, and the steering is very precise and well weighted. I love the 6sp manual, but I wish 6th gear was a little longer for better highway fuel economy. Power from the 2.5 is good (certainly much better than in most other compacts), but the engine may be the one point where the 3 does not fully live up to the premium image. If pushed, it sounds a bit coarse at times and other engines of the same size get more power and better fuel economy. The interior is great with many luxury features not expected in this class. Overall a very European driving experience. Highly recommended!
Legendary
Have you ever seen or driven A car and said "I wish I had purchased that when it was new". Well if so then you will understand this vehicle. Being the prior owner of 2007 Mazda3 I can clearly say that this car far exceeds the predecessor which was something I was worried about initially. I, like most, was gun shy about a 1st year car and took a chance. Boy did it pay off. This car is FAR beyond "best in class" this car will be branded as "one of the best cars ever made" in the class with the 1969-2002/BMW,1978- VW/GTI,2002-Subaru/WRX- etc. I wont even start on how great it is as you just need to read the surrounding reviews here and elsewhere. If you miss this gem, too bad I told you so will do.

Everything I expected.
I couldn't pass up the incentives on this car I had been interested in since 2004. My old car, though reliable, was 8 years old and rusting. It was time. I appreciate the Mazda3's straightforward interior design and comfort, unique styling, and quality of materials in and out. I expected a little extra wind and tire noise compared to my old mid-size car, and I got it, but it's more than acceptable. The 2.5 engine pulls very strongly throughout the range and has a lot of pep. Mileage is average to good for this class of vehicle. Very satisfied with the vehicle and dealer.
I love my Hatchie!
This little beast is fun to drive! I was previously driving a SUV and it's nice to drive a zippy, responsive and sexy vehicle. No more soccer mom for me I have upgraded to Cougar! In all seriousness this car has the speed to pass fast and safe as well as smooth and quiet when you are not dare deviling. The only thing I don't like is that the vehicle feels floaty at higher speeds (130+ km/h). I suspect this being due to lightness of the vehicle. You can also feel her move when there are high winds on the road.
Why wouldn't you buy this?
I've only owned my Mazda3 Hatchback (s GT) for 3 months but every single day I have no regrets about buying it. I got the Bose sun and sound package and the tech package (why not?). The push button start and advanced keyless system is AWESOME! The way this thing drives is so much fun! I do 60 mph on off ramps (sometimes gotta take it back a notch depending on the ramp). I've gotten so many comments from random people like "hey, sweet car!" The fuel economy when I'm not zoom- zooming isn't too bad (about 24 mpg in the city, haven't tested highway miles yet), my average is about 22 mpg though because I can't help but take off at every green light!
