Luxury meets Reliability

The 4th generation RX offering from Lexus is the best all around luxury SUV in the market. I've driven all of them including the Mercedes GLC, BMW X5, Audi Q7, even the Highlander, Pilot, etc. etc. All of them. The RX strikes the right balance between ride comfort, power, fit and finish, beauty and technology. To get the same safety features on the RX, one would have to pay massive premiums on the Audi/BMW/Mercedes. Best bang for the buck and not only that, you're dealing with the most reliable brand out there.

RX 350 Cruise Control and Transmission Problems

Review for 2017 RX350. I live in an area with rolling hills. The eight speed transmission operates very poorly when driving as it is constantly shifting up and down in a very noticeable jerky multiple shifting operations to control speed when in cruise control while going up and down hills. When driving without cruise control the shifting and jerking still occur ,however, not as severe when cruise control is activated. Transmission and ECU MODULE were replaced by dealer. Did not solve problem.

If there were ever proof that you get what you pay for, the Lexus RX350 is it. My wife and I just retired and wanted an "RV" (Retirement Vehicle) and we planned on a lot of time behind the wheel driving across America to work on checking off items on our bucket list. We traded in - reluctantly as it had been such a good vehicle - our 2010 RX350 that had just turned over 110K miles. While the 2010 had all of the bells and whistles of it's day, the technology had become a little dated. We opted for a 2017 RX350 premium package with the wide screen navigation. We brought it home and about one month later took off on a 3000 mile road trip up to Pennsylvania and Ohio from our home in San Antonio Texas. The RX performed beyond our expectations. The cruise control and radar/safety system worked well, but it takes some getting used to. (BTY, the safety package is standard on the RX, something BMW, Acura and other make you pay extra) The assistant was helpful in setting up addresses and voice commands were easy. I especially like just saying "I'm Hungry" and it lists all of the restaurants nearby. You pick a place to eat and the navigation system lays out the routing. Overall, I love this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone wanting an upscale SUV that seats 5. As it is only the wife and I, it fulfills all of our travel needs. UPDATE - March 2018 - We have made several trips to the Northeast and to Mississippi since we purchased this vehicle. It has performed wonderfully. We have become more familiar with the technology and it is very useful on the road. We are planning another trip once spring comes to the northeast. We want to take a trip out west sometime in the fall. One note, I was worried about the light color of leather getting dirty quickly or absorbing color from clothes - especially blue jeans. This has turned out not to be an issue after a little research on You Tube as I purchased a good leather cleaner and conditioner and it cleaned the seats right up.. Absolutely no problems with the RX - it rides smoothly and is very quiet. Looking forward to many more miles behind the wheel. I also want to say I receive excellent service and support from my Lexus dealer, North Park Lexus at the Dominion and the free car washes for life are a very nice perk!! UPDATE - JANUARY 2020 - We have relocated from Texas to Pennsylvania. 2019 was a transition year and we stayed with relatives while our new home was being built. During this time, the Utility part of SUV really was put to the test and our RX exceeded expectations. We hauled literally everything and anything in this vehicle and now have embarked on cleaning out my mother-in-laws house for sale as she is now living with us in our new home. The RX will again be put in service as a Utility vehicle. Our RX has never given us any trouble, however I wish I would have purchased the AWD version, but at the time of purchase, we didn't know we would be relocating to Pennsylvania - thank God it's been a very mild winter (or so the locals tell me). The only downside is the closest Lexas dealership to where I now live is a two hour drive, but I still get all service done a the dealership. Soon will have 50K miles on the clock and will be looking for some all season Michelin tires to replace the original tires which I have never been happy with - they are OK, just not Michelins.

Luxury Car with Luxury Problems

Lexus make good car with quiet engine, comfortable seating and climate control. Let me add some of my concerns: 1) Navigation is very poor, routing mechanism is bad, traffic data is lousy. When you speak with Lexus customer service, they will tell you this is common complains from owner. Although it is very common, they did nothing to address it. 2) Car doesn't have full integration with iphone and andriod like other luxury cars. You can send receive text and phone calls and it pretty much ends there. Many other cars have better integration like screen mirroring, ability to control addressbook to other things from cell phone or an app. 3) Dealer and manufacturer recommends service every 5k miles costing 350-450 per service. They change oil every 10k and for other service it is just tire rotation and some other inspections. Very costly tire rotation and oil change. When spoke with with dealer, customer service they simply took note of complains and offer no guidance or plan on how they are going to address it with future update. There are thousands of people complaining this, so it is a huge issue.

Over committed, under delivered

Have owned the RX350 for 2 years. Ride is smooth, handling is good, overall a decent car, but not great. Good thing there is a camera for backing up and car alert systems for cars in adjoining lanes as there are multiple blind spots. The additional packages are hokey. The hands free tail gate which is on almost every car has worked once, don't even try to use it any longer. When I did try to use it and I was out there waving my hand over the sensor, looking like an idiot and then need to open it conventionally. This wouldn't bother me except they charge $200 for this worthless option and it is packaged in most cars. Another such option is the heated steering wheel. Can't even tell it is on. Seat cooling is another under performer. Not much airflow, but the fans are extremely loud. Compared to my neighbors Ram truck, it is pitiful. The Navigation system which ties to your phone (Scout GP) is worthless. It can't decipher what you are asking. Neither my wife or I have had any luck with it trying business names, addresses, anything. Didn't even try the remote start via phone app, but it is disappointing that a car in this price range doesn't have a remote start standard. If the phone app did end up working, it t is free for one year, then $160 per year afterwards....Too expensive, ended up up putting in an aftermarket remote starter. When we picked the car up, they wasted too much time trying to sell add on packages and spent very little time explaining the features. Wasted time rebooting the entire car because the hands free tail gate wouldn't work. Overall, much less than the stellar buying experience Lexus advertises. Lexus obviously has a loyal base and as such is stingy with discounting, but I would suggest giving similar cars a better look. Over priced for what is delivered.
