My favorite vehicle ever!

Have a 2023 Blackline in white. This vehicle is everything you need and nothing you don't. The presence, drive, quietness, V8 roar are all awesome. Plenty of interior space for passengers, adequate space for hauling. A big family mover this is not, but I don't think that is what it is meant for. I know I could go almost anywhere in this truck. It's outstanding in the snow and solid on all road conditions except ice (to be expected). It's very capable off road. It's comforting to know it'll last for hundreds of thousands of miles as long as I do basic maintenance. I'm getting a solid 18 mpg in my daily 102 mile commute at 60 mph, on winter gas in Minnesota. This includes warmup idling. The Apple carplay works wonderfully and I like that it's plug in so I can also charge my phone. If I don't need car play, the bluetooth works great for everything else. Switching form carplay to bluetooth doesn't even result in a dropped call, it just switches over. Plenty of tech features that all actually work reliably. Lots of physical buttons, climate control works well, heated seats get very warm, very fast. Lexus app works great. I have zero complaints or things I would change. Scratch that, I would heat the entire steering wheel instead of just the 9 & 3 sides. But, that's a Lexus thing. I would buy a GX again in a heartbeat, no question at all. This is my most favorite vehicle I've ever owned.

You may notice the poor reviews by professionals and glowing review from owners - let me explain. I bought this truck for exactly what it is - a truck. This is not a car platform cross-over with better handling, more speed and "refinement." This truck is what luxury cars used to be: big, relaxed and quiet. Add in legendary Toyota reliability and I couldn't resist. The V8 sounds great and I get way better MPG than most people say. I average around 19-21 in mixed daily use, not bad considering my 4cyl Audi averaged 24-27mpg in the same usage. To me, the driving experience is excellent. Road noise is minimal, the optional Mark Levinson sound system is incredible, and the ride encourages you to hit bumps and potholes just to see how isolated you feel from it. Driving this truck made driving relaxing to me rather than chore. The tech is clearly a few years behind, a Toyota/Lexus trademark, but I will happily trade tech and a few MPG for years of reliability. On a side note, I also have a 2020 Mercedes GLE450 that my wife drives. It is an excellent car, but both of us prefer the GX. The joy hasn’t faded after ~6mo of ownership. No issues, no rattles, no squeaks. I drive a lot of rental cars for work and I’m always happy to get back into the GX.

2023 Lexus GX - Don't listen to Edmunds

First off, I have a 2004 GX, which still runs and looks great (142,000mls). I just purchased the 2023 GX Premium Edition. These cars are pretty bullet proof. The new GX rides excellent, feels very comfortable to drive, has apple car play etc. Anyone who would put a Mercedes or Land Rover above the GX is not doing any kind of long term testing. I would recommend checking with Consumer Reports because their reviews are long term, unbiased, and not just an opinion. If you want a vehicle that will not have you in the shop multiple times a year, and you want to keep it for five years or more, then it's a no brainer. Mercedes and Land Rover are great if you lease or get a new car every three years.

An old-school Toyota 4x4 disguised as a luxury SUV

I’ve recently owned a Yukon Denali and GLE but wanted to get one of the old V8 GX 460s before they went out of production. My Denali was too big and too expensive, and my GLE was too weak with minimal off-road capabilities. I got the GX optioned with captain’s chairs, Mark Levinson audio, and all weather floor mats…all I need for now. Most days I run errands around town and take my kids to school so fuel economy is not an issue, but the GX 460 also gives me the ability to take advantage of all that Oregon has to offer including skiing and camping trips. It has all the towing capacity I’ll ever need and the reliability to sleep easy on those overnight camping trips down a long dirt road. I love the visibility all around the vehicle including the huge side view mirrors. A $100 dollar adapter gives me wireless Apple CarPlay which is a perfect complement to the old school buttons and digital clock. One day, when all the newness wears off, I hope to convert it into the ultimate over-lander.

Maybe outdated but solid and reliable.

This SUV maybe dated but it is solid and reliable. See how many Q7’s are left running in 10 years and then ask what it cost to get there. With this vehicle there is no worry about extended warranties. This SUV is very smooth and quiet. Do the research. If want an SUV that lasts beyond the lease or loan look around at how many are still on the road. Yes it uses gas, but it’s worth it when you have the confidence that it’s not going to leave you stranded.
