Love the Kia Soul so much I have owned two of them

This car has a unique style that has made it my favorite car ever. It is my 4th new car and hands down the one most loved. A year and a half ago I had to rent a car. Enterprise gave me a 2018 Kia Soul. I literally fell in love with it. Great space, comfortable and clear view for driving made it a wonderful experience. I bought a used Kia Soul (2014) which I had for 6 month but lost in an accident. Now, knowing it was the only car I wanted, I bought a new 2019 Kia Soul in Inferno Red. Best care ever. I paid under $19K for a automatic with every convenience: A/C, Power everything (windows, locks, etc.), cruise control, steering wheel controls for radio, cruise and driving modes. Best part was I was able to get a $0 down loan (and I don't have the best credit). If you are looking for a nice car that comes well equipped, you should definitely consider a Kia Soul, especially the model after 2014!

I'm a Soul Man, do-do-do-do do-do-do...

This is an outstanding motor vehicle! Still have our first Kia, a 2011 Soul Plus in Denim Metallic, 2 liter/4 cylinder, 5 speed manual transmission. We purchased the car new in Autumn 2010 and are just shy of 124,000 miles. Never had an accident but one chronic issue was/is the windshield. Had 2 or 3 chips repaired over the years and had it replaced this week because of a major crack from above the rearview mirror to directly in the driver's eyeline. $235 at Safelite, insurance didn't cover with deductable. I've done the disc brakes all around once and the tires all around were replaced once. New oil every 6000 - 7000 miles, mostly conventional, although she's runnin' full synth now, a good idea with higher mileage. A couple recalls in 10 years but nothing major. The only "work" we had done was a major tuneup at around 100K due to uneven idle and poor mileage, and it was due anyway. New battery at 105K and 7 years. The new Soul + is gorgeous! This is Titanium Gray with a striking metallic appearance and high quality clear-coat that gives off an illusion of depth. The ride in the 2011 was/is rough, kinda truckish, but this 2019 is absolutely not. More like a luxury SUV to us, as is the interior also. Very high quality information/entertainment system that connects with our Android phones to use maps and UVO diagnotics & emergency breakdown protection. Fair to midland stock sound system with USB, 1/8" aux input, SiriusXM, Am/Fm ect. No stock CD anymore or 8-track either. Darn!! Bumper-to-bumper coverage, emergency roadside assistance and gas & tire service for 6 years, 50,000 miles - INCLUDED. 10 year, 100K drive train. Beat that Japan, U.S. or anyone else at this price. $18,750 out the door + 1.9% for 48 months with $1750 rebate thru Kia. Two highly satisfied customers here. Kia should hire us as spoke persons. So I had a 2010 Honda Fit, 5spd base, and my wife has a 2017 Camry base. The Fit was great in many ways, but the loud road noise on highway just got to be too much for me. Test drove a number of vehicles, besides the Soul a Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona & Ioniq etc. In the end went with a 2019 Soul Plus. Am quite pleased with it so far. The Plus 2.0 engine is quite adequate. The car is a good highway cruiser, better really even than I'd expected. In OH to NY trip had 3 people, I rode in rear part of the way, and found it comfortable, not Camry comfortable, but good. In first couple weeks with it have done an 800 mile and a 500 mile road trip, as well as a good bit of around town driving. Gas mpg is more or less as reported, 25 city, 30 highway. Driving from OH to NY, much of it at 76, 77mph, averaged 29mpg, good for this car really. With gas prices as low as they are ($1.99 in OH!) the incentive for a more expensive hybrid just wasn't there. The ride quality is good. The infotainment is excellent. Love the front seating positions, the road view and visibility. Cargo space is good. Update: I have now had the car a half year, and put 8000 miles on it. I am still pleased with my choice. No, not the greatest gas mileage, but better mileage cars were either more expensive, or too small. I don't find myself wishing I had all wheel drive. Honestly I think that is over hyped. I drove for several months in the winter here in upstate NY with it, and it was fine. AWD is nice, but it isn't everything by any means, you get a little more traction from a stop maybe, but it doesn't help with braking etc. Front wheel drive works fine really, and is cheaper! The car still seems comfortable, practical, and I am glad of my choice.

If you notice I marked great for all categories (except for n/a) it is because I LOVE this car and everything about it. This is my 3rd soul and I would not drive anything else. Of course, since this is a 2019 model, it does have more bells and whistles..

DO to age and arthritis we found the PT perfect. When my 2005 died I looked ant Chrysler and Ford for a replacement, nothing was to be found. Leaving a motorcycle event I passed a Kia dealer and spotted the Soul. I stopped and talked to the sales man about it. I went to get in the Soul and with 16 inch wheels it was at the perfect height, I took it home to show my wife who is house bound she looked out the window and said it looked good. I went back to the dealer bought it and drove it home. Later when she had a doctor visit she got in the Soal and commented how its entry height was perfect. The car has continued to preform great, I have 26000 miles on it, getting 27 -28 MPG in the winter and 29-30 during the summer and 30+ on the highway. By the way the numbers are based on my calculations, not the dashboard readings, dividing MILEG/GALONS at the gas pump.

Never imagined a Kia. Dealer adjacent to Nissa dealer and looked at Soul almost by accident. I’m 6’4” and fit better than any car I’ve ever driven. Really. Value with 5 years 60,000 miles makes this car better than shopping for used. Visibility is another best. Seating comfort combined with features and visibility makes it fun to drive. I’m enjoying this can more than any I ever owner including a couple of Acura’s

First KIA Soul and we love it

We love our KIA Soul. It is our first KIA product and we feel very secure with the warranty. We like the city driving gas mileage and on the highways it is smooth and comfortable. So far it is the car of my wife's dreams. Fun to drive, economical, and reliable. We have yet to get service (oil changes, tire rotations, ect.) so we are not too sure about the service from the dealer. However there are plenty of places for these types of service. I would recommend this car to anyone with a family and looking for economy, room, and safety.

This car gives you style, options and a good ride. This is my 3rd Soul and 4th Kia vehicle. It is just the right size for me and my family, and easy to get in and out of. And you would really be surprised how much room there is inside and how much you can fit in there if you need to. I love the new Android Auto App and larger screen on the dashboard.

I love this car so much I just bought it again. My first one was it 2016 soul and I just upgraded to the 2019 titanium grey soul. The color is awesome and never looks dirty. The quality of the interior and intuitive functions are perfect. Trunk space is limited with this The rear seats up. Put them down and you can haul a ton of stuff. Gas mileage is really great. My last kia still drove like new. But couldn’t pass up the new car deal! One year later and 33k miles. Not a single issue. 💕

I, like many others love the car so much that I have owned two of them. I had a 2016 soul plus and just traded it in for a 2019 Soul Plus. I was so impressed with the looks, performance, technology and interior materials, not to mention the reliability and warranty that I chose it again! How many cars have you owned that you would buy again? Kia Soul is such a great car that That it has a very high owner loyalty. I know two other people that have also loved their Souls so much that they replaced their old souls with new ones. The car is roomy, comfortable, has good performance and technology only found in much more expensive cars. The interior is surprisingly luxurious and every one rides in it with me is surprised by the quality if the interior materials. My 2016 Soul had zero mechanical issues....zero. I am looking forward to many happy miles to come with my 2019 Kia Soul.

I like my Soul, it is large enough that I feel seen on the road. My second vehicle is a pick up, so to transition between vehicles is easy. Fuel mileage is not bad, interior comfort is not bad, purchase price was affordable. Compared to my truck, the Soul does feel light, cheaper made, and less sturdy, but that is a slightly unfair comparison. I chose the simpler model. I like that it is a simple and easy vehicle to operate with practical and common sense interior controls. However, at almost 65,000 KM and I some concerning repairs popped up: I needed to have all 4 spark plugs replaced (not under warrantee, as that cancels around 60,000) and an EVAP System Control Valve stuck closed. I have had trouble with the vehicle wanting to start (not a winter problem, this is happening with temperatures above 0), I have had trouble with my temperature gauge in cold weather (it is out by 10 or more degrees and is just an annoyance). I am now at almost 75,000 KM and replacing an alternator. They are blaming the alternator as the reason why my vehicle will occasionally stall out while trying to start it. The car as also developed the occasional shutter while stopped. Although I am told RMP drops are normal, why this started happening noticeably now, no one really wants to listen. I did have the temperature gauge switched out under warrantee and it does seem to be working more accurately.

I purchased a 2019:Soul Tech Package in January of 2019. Walked into a Toronto area Kia Showroom & it was love at first site! The Carribiean Blue paint with clear coat shines as good as any luxury SUV. The design is I believe special. I had the front driver& passengers windows tinted to give the car a longer sleeker look. I had the rain deflecters and a stone deflector added as well. I'm a car fanatic and this is my everyday driver. I use it for groceries and errands around town. Just turned 7k and had my 3rd oil change...every 6 months. I find myself driving it more on our freeways as it is an ample car...surprisingly quick & it has great handling at higher speeds 130 Klm/hr. My other car is a 2018 Porsche Cayenne and my Soul has all the same options...even a Harmon Kardon Stereo System and Panrama sunroof. The 18 inch painted and machined rims are as nice as any BMW's! Love...Love...Love my Soul & I highly recommend it! Safe driving!

I'm a Kia fan! I purchased a 2008 Rondo in 2010 after my Saturn Vue was totaled. I had absolutely no problems with it. Regular maintenance and it ran great! In fact, a friend is driving it and just loves the V6 engine. I bought a 2017 Soul new...not any problems, ever. At least until Super Bowl Sunday, I was hit by a drink driver, and it was totaled. Last Friday, I purchased a 2019 Soul! This is the car for me. It's the perfect size for me. Just love it!

This is a great roomy car if you are tall like I am. Lots of head room and leg room. Gas mileage is bad though. About 16 mpg if all you drive is city. On an all freeway trip though you'll get about 29-30 mpg. Still love the comfort of the car though!

After owning several toyota products I decided to try Kia- what a dissapointment-ride is rough, seats are small and uncomfortable- biggest complaint is with the paint- chips extremely easy-brought up to service manager only to hear -I'm sorry- not feeling much soul---- update--- sold my Kia Soul- front of car was severely chipped up by stones- ride was just to choppy for me but I stayed with the Kia brand,I now own a 2020 sportage and wow what a difference, great ride, great handling, and mileage is the same or better than the soul- mostly like the performance

LOVE my SOUL!!!

Carr, 07/27/2019
2019 Kia Soul 4dr Wagon (1.6L 4cyl 6A)
4 of 4 people found this review helpful

I fell in love with the Soul when I test drove one when they first came out in 2009. My choice was between it and a used Volvo V70 wagon. I got the Volvo because it was more "sophisticated," I loved the styling, it had more cargo space, etc. Throughout the ten years I had it, I adored it, but when I would see a Soul on the road, I kept remembering how much more 'fun' it was to drive and sometimes thought I'd made the wrong decision. When the Volvo started giving trouble this past year (at 200,000 miles), I spent months reviewing and driving cars. I knew the newer Volvos weren't as good as the old ones, so I looked at everything else out there. I'd go to CarMax on the weekends and sit in scores of cars on the lot to see which ones my 6'2" frame would "fit" into comfortably. (My father always said to make sure you can fit in a car before you consider it.) That narrowed it down a good bit. Also, I didn't want a car made in the USA (often poorer workmanship and cheaper parts) and I knew that Kia and Hyundai had been striving to make their products better all these years. I read in the Wall Street Journal that Kia and Hyundai were rated in the top ten best cars in 2018, and Honda had been kicked off the list (Toyota had dipped to #9!). I drove several Kias and found myself in love again, just as I had been in 2009. I got a fantastic price ($14,000) on a beautiful, repoed 2019 with only 5,000 miles in May 2019. I figured the previous owner couldn't have done that much damage to it in just eight months and 5000 miles (the oil only needs to be changed every 5,000) and I couldn't resist it! I gave it a score of 4 instead of five because there was no 4.5 choice, and the car does have a couple of things that aggravate me a bit. The leg and head room are superb, but when I put the seat all the way back, the telescopic steering wheel won't come out or tilt down enough for my arms to be comfortable, so I have to drive with the seat further up to keep my arms and shoulders from being strained. You would think that Kia would consider making the steering wheel more compatible with the seat depth. (No more temporary 'knee steering' for me now!) Also, for people with shorter thighs, the seats can be a bit too deep, making it difficult for them to bend their knees. I don't get the silky-smooth interstate ride that I did with the Volvo, and as others have stated, the gas mileage is nothing to brag about, but it'll do. Hopefully the mileage will improve in the future, as I LOVE the new 2020 styling and hope to get one of those once the warranty expires on this one. (And yes, the warranty was also a deciding factor in getting this.) I remember in the mid-nineties when Buick LeSabre and Oldsmobile '88' owners were (shockingly!) switching to Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords, and I believe you're seeing many people now switching from the popular Toyotas and Hondas to Kias and Hyundais. I don't see them going anywhere but forward...To reiterate, if my little Soul had a more flexible telescopic steering wheel/column and better gas mileage, I would definitely be giving it a 5.

Test drove the 2019 base model, so can't comment on the engine pep or seat comfort of upper trims. I was surprised how roomy it felt ( I sat in an early model, and it was too cramped to even consider) and the quality of the cabin materials at this price point. All the safety features were available on the base model. Fun to drive. Small, sporty steering wheel that sits low. Great visibility. Enough pep for my daily driving-around-town needs. However, driver's seat was uncomfortable. Too small and not enough thigh support. (More adjustment options with power seats may have helped). Spouse thought it was too small. No AWD available on any trim level. My biggest reservation was the overall negative reputation of the KIA dealerships and well, the company itself. I do love the look and the feel, and would consider it for an extra vehicle, i.e. grocery-getter. Test drove 10 vehicles ( OCD perhaps) and went back to the Honda CR-V.

I absolutely love the 2019 Kia Soul Base model! It was very intuitive, easy to control thru rain, slush and snow for being just a FWD model. I had no problems in central NY winter weather. It's roomy but slightly lacking in cargo area, which to some that might be a down point but for me it suited my needs. Bottom line is come February, if the incentives are good, I will be trading in my 2011 Kia Sorento for the 2019 Kia Soul!!

Battery issues seems over : started just fine without block heater, some night temp down to minus 30. Good mileage. No other issues, so far so good. Avoid servicing dealership, rather using local mechanic.

3 months in and regretting it

If you are taller, and move the driver's seat back, the B pillar interferes with easy entry and exit. My hips have actually been sore from the twisting to get in and out. Disappointed in the MPG. 2.0 4 cyl and I'm lucky to average 22. Very small fuel tank. Rear seats fold forward, but headrests hit front seats (again being tall affects this), rear seats do not lay flat when folded.

I actually lease this car. I don’t think that matters though. Normal maintenance, every 3 mos. has kept it in tip top condition. It’s a great car. Mileage wise and comfortable interior it’s great. I seriously don’t think you can go wrong with this car.

Zippy little town cruiser

This car looks a little boxy & small, but it was the only car at the dealership that I could qualify to buy, so I bought it. But to my surprise I fell in love with this car! I’m 6’1” & I fit it this car perfectly! I have great headroom, great legroom & plenty of room in the back for two car seats! I’ve packed the cargo area with all the gear for the lake for 3 kids, cooler, chairs, towels, 3 float rafts, beach toys! Who knew so much stuff could fit in such a small car! That was summer! Winter time it handles great in the snow, a little low to the ground for deep deep snow, but it handled great around town where there 12” or less. I never had any repairs up to 60,000 miles. Just after that about 62,000 I had to replace was a small inexpensive part that had to do with the turn signal not working.

Tough Vehicle Saved Me

I rented a 2019 Soul to use for rideshare and delivery. I love the way it drove and the sound system was good. I was headed home one night and was t boned on the driver’s side by a Sportage which outweighs the Soul by about 1500 pounds. The woman who hit me was accelerating up a hill and there were no skid marks. The Soul was hit so hard that the rear tire flew off and landed across the street in a DQ parking lot. I got a nasty laceration to my left thigh and a huge bruise. My neck and lower back are hurt, but I’m here and everyone who say the wreck and saw photos afterwards are amazing that I wasn’t hurt worse.

I've had my soul for almost 3 years and have put almost 50,000 miles on it. I haven't had one mechanical problem. I get the oil changed on schedule and I keep it clean and gassed up. It gets good gas mileage yet it's still zippy. Nice for long trips and getting around town. Comfortable seating and sufficient cargo. I love that it came with so many options. The infotainment is excellent.

I would definitely not recommend this car.I don’t like anything about it.I have had it 41 days and I hope to get rid of it ASAP! Most days it doesn’t want to start sounds like it wants to quit running and is a very bumpy ride 😩

The Kia Soul was a great little city car that we took to a small town in the Utah Mountains. Even though only front wheel drive, it handled great in the snow and ice. We took several cross country trips and were amazed at all we could pack into it for work projects etc, including heavy tools, etc and we still got 30-35 mpg on the highway. We just traded it in for a Kia Telluride so that we could haul a trailer when needed on our cross country trips!
