Objective review of my '07 Sedona

We purchased this van used with 10,000 miles on it. We got it for a great price because the resale value of the Kia Sedona is comparatively one of the lowest of any vehicle. It is very roomy and comfortable, and drives and handles extremely well. It is perfect for long trips, and I average between 24-25 mpg on the highway. There are no mechanical issues. On the bad side, our main complaint is that the suspension sounds like creaky old bed springs when you go over a slight bump, and this is not a warranty item. The materials quality both inside and out is not on par with Japanese rivals. The dashboard is fading in some spots and the leather is showing wear spots on the passenger seat.

80,000 miles and no major problems so far!

We wanted a used Toyota Sienna or Honda Odessy bu the prices were about 20% to 25% higher than an equivalent KIA minivan. So we bought our 2007 Sedona EX in 2009 with 17,000 miles on it. As second owners, the original 10 yr./100K mi. warranty partially passed to us for 60,000 miles or 5 years (until May 2012), whichever came first, which we thought was pretty generous on KIA's part. We actually used it when the automatic doors began to act up within the first year we owned it. This is a known issue on some Sedona vans from this period. We took it to the dealer two or three times before they finally got it fixed right and the problem has never returned. We bought the EX model, which has lots of bells and whistles, including very convenient power rear "wing windows" in the third row. We've had a couple of engine lights over the years like O2 sensors, etc. Common problems on most cars but at least two or three hundred bucks to repair! But the engine block itself and tranny have not had any problems since we bought it. We used full synthetic oil from the beginning, every 5,000 miles on schedule. Plus we use a little Archoil additive every oil change. We haven't had a tune up since we bought it. But the 3.8L engine still runs smooth and has lots of power when accelerating, even with a full house. Smooth shifting as well. It has never left is stranded on the side of the road. At 60,000 miles, the windshield wiper motor died and was replaced. Surprisingly, we were able to squeeze 70,000 miles out of the original tires, although that was really pushing it below the tread-wear indicators. Put a set of Costco Michelin Defenders all the way around ($800) and it rides like a cream-puff. The overhead information display is a very nice feature, and tells us that we average 17 MPG consistently in the city. Freeway driving allows us to get maybe 20 to 22 miles per gallon, depending on speed. The interior layout is user friendly and attractive. Very roomy for families with kids. The rear well behind the third row is very deep, allowing for lots of luggage stowage. Cupholders and cubby holes are everywhere. The factory speakers are "OK" but the stock radio is really below par. Upgraded to an aftermarket head unit and the sound quality is so much improved. It's one of three cars in the household, so we drive it only about 6,500 miles per year. At 80,000 miles our Sedona is still going strong, although the front suspension is just now starting to "creak and squeak" as if some major front end work may be in store....time for a visit to Les Schwab for a free inspection! The van still has the original alternator and water pump, so we should probably get those two items replaced before they die. Overall, this minivan has served us well for family hauling and vacations. Definitely got our money's worth over the years.

We love our Kia Sedona van. It handles well and is very comfortable...granted it has a bunch of bells and whistles. We have had relatively few problems and if I were to purchase a van again...it would be a Sedona. The gas mileage in town is not great but I like it on the highway. I especially like the tire monitoring system, the back seat folding down, the back windows able to go down and how much power I feel I have versus our Grand Caravan we had prior to this.

The only negative is that you have to remove the middle seats to get a totally flat cargo space.

We test drove an Odyssey, Sienna and the Sedona, and the Sedona is equal or better than the other 2. We were very disappointed with the Sienna fit and finish. The Sedona is a excellent van, with very good power, comfort, road manners and price (the Sedona is not cheap as it used to be but this model is far superior than the older design). My gas mileage in the city is around 16 and 26 in the highway, I am pleased with the fuel economy, I know it will improve when the engine breaks in. We really enjoy driving this car, my children love the comfort and the DVD.
