Owned since new, primary vehicle for first year, then wised up and used as second or third ever since, where it excels as convertible, off-roader, tow vehicle, winter driver, grocery getter; fun, practical, economical to operate and easy to maintain. 17- 20mpg with 5sp/2.5L, stock. Just don't ask it to carry more than two adults, spend hours on the highway or keep you cool in the heat (though its warm enough in the winter). Took it to Turkey & Germany, was right vehicle for first country, wrong for second. Next time will buy hardtop w/AC and get the softtop later.

Have owned it for all 16 years of its life. Mechanical troubles early on were covered by Chrysler warranty. Most of the kinks worked out by 5 years or so.

Built Great

This is a tough workhorse. After 12 years and 140,000 miles still runs great. Starts every morning. But it is what it is... Don't buy this vehical thinking you are getting anything else but a Jeep. It is not a car! If buying make sure you get the 4.0 IL6- It makes all the difference in the world. I have had two batteries and the water pump replaced in 12 years. I cant say enough good things about Jeep.

Bulletproof construction, fun to drive

I haven't had this for long. It's very simple. No power steering, ABS, AC, or anything extra except the aftermarket pioneer radio. Off roads nice and has great ground clearance even with stock sized tires and no lift. Always starts up and is ready to go.

Battling the SUV crash image

When I bought it, it had 89,000 miles on it, and I've put 60,000 miles on this vehicle since then, and the reliability is excellent. I've replaced the carb with an Autolite carb, and lifted it, but otherwise it's factory stock. I have no problems with the supposed problems with SUV rollover. It corners great.

mud monster

My jeep was the best suv i think i will ever own. I used it for off-roading and i drove it throw a mud up to the middle of the windshield and it powered right throw. It was crazy off-raod. I had Mud Kings 235/75/15 that is only 2 sizes bigger then stock. There was no lift in it. I had to replace the tranny once but i was rough on the jeep when i was off-road. Other then that it just needed basic maintance. I am sad to say that i totaled my jeep.

This is my second Yj wrangler, they are very fun to drive. Not bad on the freeway with a hard top and full doors. Very easy to take on and off. There are so much you can do to this ride to make it your own. Nothing can beat driving a wrangler with the doors off and top down on a nice sunny day!

Looking for a dependable, strong, go- anywhere fun Jeep? This is it. I opted for the 4 cylinder because it has plenty of power with better fuel economy. Wranglers are for adventurous people who want to have fun - not for people who want a comfortable cadillac. Since the Jeep is not the most comfortable - but does what it is supposed to excellent.

Great if you realize what you're buying

I had alway wanted a Jeep and I finally bought one. First of all I love mine, but you need to realize what you are buying. These are loud and ride very stiff from the factory. I have the 4 Cylinder and like it because I get 18 - 20 around town. The downfall with the 4 is that it is not fast. I think 75 mph is pushing it on a flat surface so it is not great for going out of town in (although my daughters will drive these when they get their first car) I recommend the soft top, although loud one person can take it down and back on in under 5 minutes. The hardtop is a pain to get off and on and is a multiple person job. If you have both the hardtop is ideal for winter. Mine has been reliable.

Bulletproof Car!

I have my YJ lifted 5 1/2" on 33's and love it more than any car I've owned. I have owned over 17 in my lifetime. I drive this car very hard and take it on difficult offroad trails. This is also my daily driver, vacation vehicle and commuter to work. Keep in mind when buying that this is not a smooth driving car, not showy on the interior, but will last you along time and is very easy and cheap to repair. I rock climb, mud bogg, trail ride and drive it on the beach. This is an excellent vehicle.

I bought this jeep with 60,000 miles on it,after one month I had to replace all the U-joints,timing chain, rear main seal. After trying to tweak the bbd carb ,I gave up and got a weber that was the best upgrade I made now it gets about 12miles to the gal.and good performance.

You don't buy a jeep thinking it's a car ! It's a jeep! , these things are tanks and will take a licking and keep on ticking! Rust is a issue if you don't keep up on washing the undercarriage. Rides like a old truck , creaks pops and rattles but your in a old jeep !

behind the music: the jeep wrangler

This car is amazing, it has been so much for my friends and I that I am really reluctant to sell it. I love this car and it has always been really good to me. Anyone who owns this car will be blessed with really amazing road trips, even trips to the gas station will seem memorable.

1990 Jeep Wrangler

The 1990 Jeep Wrangler: you either love it or hate it. It should not be mistaken as civil or even practical. Everything about this vehicle is very stark and raw, from the trademark styling, to the spartan interior, flimsy tedious-to-install soft top, and stiff suspension setup. This vehicle is built for aggressive off-road performance, not for handling and everyday tooling around. What makes it appealling is its honest, hard-working image, its macho mystique and heritage, and yes, it will go anywhere...within reason. I recommend this vehicle to people looking for a fun 2nd car to tackle the trails or just to putz around with the top off on a sunny day.

I bought my Jeep with 124,000 on it and have done a lot of driving in 23,000 miles; now it reads nearly 150k but still purrs along like new. I lifted mine 6" on 33" Xterrains and have jumped it, swamped it, flooded it, and she still runs great if you change the oil.

Ever since I got my Wrangler I enjoyed it. Working on it has been very easy, very cheap, and educational. It never left me stranded. For 127,000 miles and a 1990 I'm very impressed with reliability. Thing are holding up very good, and build quality is greater than the previous japanese sports car I drove. That Japanese car had so many rattles and was 8 years newer than my Jeep with 1/4 the miles. I wouldn't change anything about this car. Well, maybe lockers, lift and bigger tires but if it was built perfect from the factory your couldn't have fun working on it and building it the way you want.

The way a Jeep ought to be

Remember when you got a Jeep because the bumpy ride was part of the reason to own one. Well this is that Jeep. If you ever had a buddy that had an old army Jeep and can remember driving through fields and bouncing around then this Jeep will take you right back to those days. They are just short of a small tank. Mine has all the aftermarket stuff and I don't know if there is much out there that would really hurt it. Trees, brush, even a deer (oh how I hate it when they do jump out in front of ya.) But hey it will hit it and you never feel anything but the bump.

Kinda Bummed

Bought with high extectations, motor has good compression, but no one can seem to get it to stop stalling. It has the webber carb, but still has hoses running everywhere! 4WD doesn't engage due to problems from the vacuum actuated front axle. Engine vibrates very hard, and compared to the fuel injected 4 cylinder, my 6 cylinder is the bigger dog of the two. ARGH!!! I think I will be more patient and look harder for a 4.0 FI equipped wrangler next time.

My Wrangler

Not for everyone. Look for one w/hardtop. New hardtops are ungodly expensive in retail aftermarket ($1600-$2K+). Get it with the jeep - figure out how to take it off later. Conversation at highway speed w/o hard top, forget it. A/C, forget it. Don't get too excited about a stereo system. A Jeep is a big vibrating square metal box & you fight road noise too. Recommend a bra/guard up front, or the Jeep grill gets all chipped up. Not for extensive traveling, OK for day trips. Can really have fun & trick it for 4-wheeling. Lots of fun stuff to buy. Watch the tranny with the 6-cyl., esp the 3-spd auto. But you still got to stomp it!
