I began leasing my 2016 Renegade Trailhawk about 6 months ago. I was looking for a cheap and fun solution for Michigan driving. The look took a while to get used to the look but then I started to like it, and the visibility while driving was awesome (lots of head room). I took it off roading and was amazed by the capability of the little jeep. With ground clearance higher than a standard truck and multiple smart 4x4 settings there was not much that I couldn't conquer, especially the hill descent was very entertaining. When winter hit the snow was meaningless to the Renegade. It would tear through 12 inches of snow and hard packed ice without a problem. At this point you are probably wondering why my rating for the vehicle is so low, well let me explain. I commute 30-40 minutes one-way to get to work, all highway driving. This quickly made me realize two of the Jeep's biggest downfalls. 1) Speed: the speed of this jeep is unbearably slow. I took the jeep into the shop and was provided a Chrysler 200 as a rental. The significant speed difference of the 200 made me feel as if I was in a tuned sports car. I think a huge problem is the transmission in the 2.4L Tigershark (maybe it should be “Tigger”shark), which is a 9 speed that has a "acceleration" technique of using less gears when you step on it. The lag of this system is well over a few seconds sometimes, and even when the timing is right, the car takes a good 10 seconds plus to get to 60. I didn't buy this jeep with the intention of replacing my race car, however, I very much dislike the terrifying emotion that I experience when simply getting on a launch ramp to the express way, or debating a pass on a two-lane highway. Not to mention, on numerous occasions the transmission has jerked on me when initially putting the car in drive/reverse, and we all know this winter even in Michigan was very mild so cold temperatures are not to blame. 2) Comfort: Driving this jeep on a sand dune or through the woods is amazing, there is no other way to put it. However, city/long distance driving this jeep really shows you its uncomfortable side. I am driving the most expensive model of the Renegade, the Trailhawk, and the front seats lack the ability to adjust lumbar. Also, although the bucket seats look great with black vinyl interior stitched in red, the bucket is a little too small, therefore, a rather skinny mid-build 6-foot guy like me feels like I am being cramped in the seat and my shoulders are pushed forward while my back cannot find support, especially not in my lumbar. Another thing in regards to comfort is noise. At speeds around 30-45 mph the engine/transmission lets out an uncomfortable hum that sounds like the gear change just isn't quite right. I hope this is not how it was designed purposely. To wrap up this review I also must mention that my engine light has gone off 4+ times in a period of 2-3 months. Every time I get it flashed it reads as a thermostat issue, which it is not. It was taken for a few days, while I got to drive the "race car 200", to be looked at more in depth. The computer underwent numerous upgrades and everything was good to go. Less than a mile out of the lot the engine light went back on. I don't think my local dealership is bad at their job, I think a cheap jeep with a 9 speed transmission, advanced 4x4 system, and AWFUL voice activated blue tooth system, among other technical abilities is OVER developed. Similar to Android devices, it might be great that it can scan your retina as a security measure before someone reads your sensitive text messages among a multitude of additional outrageous applications, however, when it becomes so overwhelmed with glitches that it is dysfunctional in less than a year, then the lack of sustainability is an issue. In conclusion, this is a fun, progressive, fuel efficient machine with impressive off road capability. Take my cons with a grain of salt as I am sure not everyone has had the same experience, but when spending $300+ a month to lease the top model of a vehicle, I expect a little more. Drive safe out there.

This piece of crap car is a death trap. How in thee hell is this car even legally able to be sold??? It’s been to the shop four times and they continue to say it’s fixed but let me ask you :is driving 50 mph then SUDDENLY having the car ITSELF decelerate to 30 mph safe??? NOOO. Then it just stops running and is dead.It’s been brought back (TOWED) four times for this same exact problem and the dealership claims it’s Chrysler’s fault and there’s nothing they can do. Do not buy this garbage junk heap death trap of a vehicle if you value your life. It’s only a matter of time until it will involve you in a horrific and traumatic accident. Ours is parked at the dealership and they are attempting to get Chrysler to buy it back from them. What a fight that was to get them to do that. Spent all day arguing with stupid sales people today and finally were allowed to talk to someone who could make a decision that would actually move this situation forward instead of at a stand still because we were not leaving with that car. That car will kill someone yet the dealership continues to attempt to us to take it. No more.

It's a bit quirky about the shifting, but once I started cruise controlling a lot the fuel economy increased dramatically and the car drove better. Entertainment system is easy to use and it grips the road very nicely

This vehicle was repurchased by Jeep and I now own a Honda crv-ex. I fell in love with the Renegade when I saw it, it suited me and so I bought it. Less than a month later the steering wheel was off to the right when the vehicle was driving straight and when I tried to straightness the steering the vehicle went to the extreme left. Had to take it back for test drive and alignment. Less than two seeks later the air conditioner was not working had to take it back yet again, this time I had to leave it but it was repaired the same day. Now during this time I still had problems with the vehicle pulling to the left, the acceleration is horrible, at 55mph the vehicle dances for lack of a better word just have to hold on to steering really tight. Other drivers pulled up to me on two different occasions to tell me the vehicle was driving sideways. Now mind you everytime I took it to the dealership they said the problem was fixed. Only the A/C was really fixed nothing else. Took it back and the right back tie rod was bent, they were convinced that I backed into to something and caused the damage. I DID NOT. After a few hours of back and forth with the dealership and jeep I ended up paying over 400.00 for parts and repairs. The vehicle still runs crappie, still pulls to the left, steering making noise while turning, steering locking while driving and at other times, acceleration is horrible ( while merging on to the thru way I almostill got rear ended because the vehicle would not move), it jerks when the gear changes which is randomly at times. In all I am fed up with this vehicle and am getting no where with jeep. They got my money, my business and my trust and now I am stuck with a bad product which may cost me my life or that of my child. Situation is bad and for a big organization jeep needs to do the right thing. Trust me they won't go bankrupt. 1/7/2017: Been to the dealership 9 times now, nobody really cares, the vehicle had ac fixed 3x, the acceleration problem still there.

DO NOT BUY!!!! I have had it into the dealer repeatedly and the issues are still not resolved. I have a rattle in the drive shaft that vibrates my whole car. It literally bogs down and vibrates until it decides to shift. But this is apparently normal for a new Jeep Renegade. Moving onto the safety issue. While making a roll stop, when I go to push my gas pedal down to go, it simply does nothing but roll onto the road I am trying to turn on. Thank goodness I did not pull out in front of anyone because I would have been smashed. This has happened more than once and also to my husband that thought is was just my driving. But he had to eat his words when it happened to him. The dealer says its nothing but it should be a major concern since this could cause an accident. Time will tell. I highly recommend NOT purchasing a Jeep Renegade. There are better made cars out there with WAY less problems. Oh yeah, my heated front seat has gone out as well but that is just a minor issue compared to others. But it is still NEW and should NOT have any issues. I bought a new Nissan Juke in 2012 and did NOT have one problem with it. Very, very disappointed.
