2021 Grand Cherokee L Not Enough

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)

We had the opportunity to do test drive in New Summit Reserve V6 & Genisis GV80 3.5V6 on the same day on July 5th. I peviousely owned 2rd gen 1996 limited, 3rd gen 1999 limited and 2015 Overland 4th Gen. All purchased new & driven between 30k-50k miles while owned. Each was vastly improved over previous generation and were great cars for there time. I eagarly anticipated the 5th gen 2021L and test drove last Monday the 5th. The model was Black Summit Reserve V6 w/saddle / orange leather interior. At 1st it seemed classy but after 5 min in drivers seat, then passenger, then back seat it appeared dated with lower quality than expected. The prior week we test drove a new 2021 Genisis GV80, the Tiger Woods special. They are in high demand as is the Cherokee L and we wanted to drive both before deciding which one we wanted. I'm 62yo and "used to be" a car guy, 2 911s, 4 Corvettes icluding ZR1, SL600, S600, 91 NSX, Viper GTS, and a 6spd Hellcat. We decided on a Green GV80 Prestige Model w/ tufted green leather interior, the top of the line as it represented excellent value for the dollar. Better fit, finish, leather quality, nicer ride, more performance, quieter, higher tech, more modern, less plastic + 2yrs & 24,000 miles of bumper to bumper warranty + 3yrs of free scheduled maitenace on top of what Jeep offers on their flagship. Once you get over the Hyundai stigma and compare features, ride quality, interior technology, performance & value I cannot imagine someone picking the Cherokee L over the GV80. The Mid Level GV80 3.5 Avanced model was priced about 5k less than the Summit Reserve with V6, The GV80 is a twin turbo pushing 375hp while the Summit has 300hp. We opted for the Prestige Model and it was 72k or within 1k of a Summit with 5.7 liter V8 which still has less horsepower. I may sound like a "paid tester" but I promise you I am just a car enthusiast who gave each car the opportunity they deserved. I suggest you drive the Grand Cherokee L first, in town, highway, rough roads then drive the GV80 over the same roads and decide for yourself. I think Jeep dealers know this is going to be a tough sell and when we passed on the Summit Reserve after test drive owner of 50yo prestigious Houston "River Oaks" dealership said no problem I'll be happy to move you to the $100k 2022 Grand Wagoneer wait list. I said thanks but no thanks. Im betting in a few years the same naysayers who doubted Lexus was just a rebadged Toyota will see the light. Speaking of light when you bchange lanes, turn on you blinker a camera perspective of looking out passenger or drivers windows pops up in instrument cluster. Im not a techy but this was way cool. The Jeeps gets 3 stars and the GV80 gets 5 stars.

This vehicle is so nice! I love it. Rides smoothly will be good in the snow this winter. Looks great too! It has so many features but my favorite is my seat memory and blind spot warning.
