Love my 2016 Grand Cherokee Laredo!

I have only had the car for a couple of weeks, I find it to be very comfortable, easy to drive and pretty good on gas. I am still getting use to the engine turn off/turn on at stop lights and stops but I am sure I will get use to it soon enough. There seems to be enough power for me. Overall there is plenty of room for what I need from a vehicle and to me the styling is very sleek and strong looking at the same time, I get lots of complements on my new jeep. I am looking forward to being content for many years to come.

We bought the least expensive RWD model (Laredo) with the V-6. Super quiet and solid ride. Handles great. Can't tell when these 8 speeds shift; it's so smooth. Fuel economy is 25 mpg with 50-50 driving. On a 50 mile highway trip doing 60 I achieve 30 mpg! I don't know why reviewers rate fuel economy bad-this is a heavy(4,500 pounds) beautiful riding and safe vehicle, not some cramped can't seat five with a 4 cylinder that seats 4 people max and has little storage area and couldn't tow a rowboat or go through 4 inches of water. Those turbo charged 4 cylinder engines usually require premium, so where's the fuel savings? Disappointed it didn't come with a CD player(we're old and still use THEM). Don't like that the radio comes on whenever you start the vehicle. On three 1,500 mile trips trips to NY combining stop and go driving and hwy. driving @ 70-75 mph. we got 27 mpg both ways running with air at least 70% of the time. We sat in traffic on the Belt pkwy. through Brooklyn and Queens which was a nightmare for 20 miles and coming back in the Fredericksburg area going nowhere still averaged spectacular mileage using regular gas. LOVE this SUV! EXCELLENT value. Also, the 293 HP Penta engine is a beauty. Burns NO oil. 40,000 miles and only three problems. While under warranty the downshifting at 22-23 mph shuddered. This was a software problem. Then the shut off engine system stopped working. I replaced the original battery on a maintenance basis with a Dry Cell battery and lo and behold the stop start now functions! A piece of trim between the front and rear windows on the drivers side came loose. Thankfully Gorilla glue took care of that. A negative is that my friend's and neighbor's, with their small vehicles often request my services when transporting loads.

Victim of R1234vf Freon

Unknown to me is the fact they changed to the new freon in the AC system. In Texas you have to have a strong AC. Instead of the coldest output air being 36-39 degrees, the best you get by factory definition is 44 degrees. I have a white exterior, tan interior, no sun roof. If it was all black with moon roof and five passengers, it would be unbearable at 100 degrees. There is no way a consumer knows unless you take along a thermometer when test driving. No cars reviews are ever given for climate controls. I just received a recall notice that due to a potential mfg defect, this model may be subject to an engine fire. Update 01/06/18. Inspected for engine fire recall and no issue. Still not happy with the AC performance. Forgot to mention another annoyance. You can't turn the radio off. There is no off button. When you turn the car off and then start it up again. The volume comes on where you left it. It has a mute button, but that only works when the radio is on. You can't mute and then turn the car off, it just comes back on to the volume setting last seen. I called Jeep and complained but they said it was a technological advancement. Duh! Other than the AC and no radio off button, it's a great SUV. Footnote: being 6'5" I could use more legroom. Update 01/08/19. The latest U-Connect app is a disaster. Ever since they came out with "blue screen" app it has failed over and over again. I have an iPhone X and the software is up to date and the car radio is up to date. I got error messages when trying to access Pandora. I would have to delete U-Connect app and reinstall. And to top it off the car radio had to be replaced under warranty because it would freeze in the media mode due to multiple communication errors. I had spent hours back and forth with the Uconnect and Jeep customer service. They knew they had app issues after the release of the new app. Also the blue screen is low contrast and hard to read. The car came with the Via Mobil service for 5 years and that is going away after that 5 year period. 01/09/2020 - THe four apps Pandora, AHA, iHeart and Slacker are gone even though the apps appear on the car radio touchscreen and the Uconnect iPhone app. And they still appear on the list included with the $149/yr subscription that I paid for last October. I'm tired of all the phone calls and trouble tickets. Would not buy again. 07/09/2020 - I stand by my earlier comments with one update. The latest models have an on/off, volume and mute button. Duh! Every once and while the Uconnect app on my iPhone freezes and I have to delete and re-install. Contacted Uconnect again and still no resolution. Another issue is that when they have a software update to your computer, you have to search by VIN. There is no notification by e-mail even though I’m the original owner. You have to incur a problem then search for a solution. 01/11/2021 Still would not buy again. The radio in the media mode will only log on to my iPhone (12 Pro now) when it wants to. I give up. Since the lasr review the water pump went out. Took it to the dealer. It lasted 600 miles. Leaked again. Shortly after that in February the idler pulley tensioner went out. Water pump cover under warranty. Idler pulley covered under MPP insurance less 100.00 deductible. Biggest complaint was at that time Covid vaccines were not available to me even though I'm 77 YO. When I went to pick up my car at the dealer only about half the employees were masked. Decided never to go back to that dealer again since they didn't take customer safety seriously. 01/12/22 - Sprint dropped 3G this year so they offered an OBD adapter with 4G that came with the 911,etc package..That worked except music from my phone won't play all the time again. I had the MPP extended warranty when I bought the car. Good thing. 49,000 miles. The humidity sensor went out, auto temp did not work. Three weeks left on it. They had to replace and recharge the AC. Cost $1900. Three days in the shop. Covered under MPP warranty. Bought the Jeep extended warranty, but it needed an inspection. The transmission heater was bad. $1700 more luckily covered under MPP with 5-6 days left on the warranty. Advice - buy an extended warranty. Water pump went out again at 54,000 miles. Counting the original that's number four. I bought the Mopar Extended warranty in April 2022 for $3K with 6 yrs and 50,000 miles and $100 deductible. I guess that was good? Guess what - the water pump went out again at 56,300 miles. That's number five. Seems like a systemic issue. This is getting ridiculous.

I've only had the vehicle a month but so far Im pretty impressed. The interior looks high end, the ride is smooth. I love the overall look of the vehicle. Gas milage could be a little better and i think the engine is under powered i also hate the start/stop function. So far I really love car.

I love my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It was expensive, I have cloth interior; which I prefer. I have chrome trim. It's very I comfortable, nice looking, acceleration is very good. It handles pretty good for as big as it is. After owning it for a year and a half and 15,000 miles on it, the key fab is shorting out, I may have electrical problems starting, not sure. I got to bring it in and have it looked at, it's still under warranty. It turns out, they just needed to reprogram the key fob. Had the Jeep 3 years now, only tires and oil changes so far as far as maintenance. It still runs great, still love it!
