Should be a negitive number on the reliablitly
This is my second 2014 Grand Cherokee. Why? Because at 500 miles, the first one had a total and complete transition failure. Like could not turn the car off, take it out of gear, nothing. Should have walked away then but we had a bad experience with a Suburban once, had it taken back under lemon law, and our next 'burb was great. So my new car, a 2014 JGC Summit has had the following: Nav System failures - shows me in a completely different city than I am in, constant radio issues (we are now on radio number 3), phone connect issues, remote start doesn't turn on A/C, and now there are days when the car simply will not start. At all. Chrysler is crap. Beautiful car that will not run.
2014 JGC Overland 5.7 L
I had a 2012 JGC SRT and had nothing but problems ranging from the transmission to the radio not working. Purchased this 2014 Overland and found out yesterday that the axel was installed improperly (according to the dealer) or that the axel "popped out" according to Chrysler. Shifting is clunky, problems with freezing screen. WHen on NAV it shows radio instead but other, window overlubed causing oil streaks and passenger seatbelt not retracting. I have only owned this Jeep for 1 month and 4 days. Don't think i will ever buy another one.

A big dissappointment
Stay away from this vehicle, I am having nothing but mechanical issues with this. With in a month a component in the radio went out (which controls a lot of features in the vehicle) and it had to be replaced. After two months the instrument panel went out as well as the gauges quit working, now they are ordering me a new dash panel. I have had this car close to two months and have nothing but problems. Please research this vehicle, as well as other vehicles, before buying the cherokee. I have noticed in the jeep forums that the same issues are occurring with other people. I wish I had never traded my other vehicle.
Not sure if its a keeper
Im at 6500 miles and the car has been at the shop 6 times. The navigation system has not worked correctly the entire time. It will not show the correct location, so is useless. They have done 3 updates and are currently installing the 3rd radio as we speak trying to resolve the issue. Not the quatlity or the aggrevation I was expecting. Not to sure about the transmission either it seems to not shift correctly downhill it runs up the rpm's. If this issue isnt resolved this time looks like I will be invoking the lemon law. I waited along time for this car at this point its a dissappointment.
Issues
I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I love it, but lately it spends more time in the shop than at my house. I have not had any radio issues, but I have had transmission issues that Jeep does not seem to know how to fix. I have a little over 8000 miles and currently it is in the shop with the mechanics trying to figure out how to put my transmission back together. We spent a lot of money on this car so we would not have these issues. I would say to anyone looking at this vehicle.....wait until they work out all the issues with this transmission before you invest in this Jeep.
Countless Problems with 8.4" Screen-Radio
I've owned my 2014 GC Overland V8 for about 6 months. After 3 months my screen froze and radio/hvac went haywire. The radio froze on full blast and the hvac froze on full heat. The knobs did nothing and the touch screen was completely frozen. Screen/radio unit was completely replaced. Dealer forgot to transfer my sirius subscription, so spent over an hour on the phone with sirius explaining that I did not purchase a new radio, blah, blah. New unit seemed to solve my problems. Then about three months later, the screen completely turned off as I was on the highway. Been dead for about a month. No radio, backup camera, etc. Dealer is going to replace unit AGAIN.
GC Limited Ecodiesel - Mileage & Torque King
Recently switched from Honda to the Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel and could not be happier. A realistic 32 MPG HWY and 24 MPG mixed driving for a 5,300 pound 4WD vehicle is incredible. With its maximum torque available at ~2000 RPM, acceleration from 0-35 outperforms most "sports" sedans...which makes it imminently drivable around town. Sport mode is essential for spirited driving; Eco mode is docile and delivers best fuel economy (~24 MPG City). The interior is very comfortable, and of high quality. I love the open pore wood trim. Only 1 problem to date (DEF injector), which was fixed quickly by the dealer. No other issues!
Jeep
Purchased my first one in 2011 drove it for 103,000 miles, with no issues at all, finally traded it in for a 2014 and I will certainly on another jeep after this one hits 100,000 miles

Best Vehicle I have ever owned!!
This is a WONDERFUL vehicle!! Luxury and safety bundled in one car. I feel very spoiled, yet very safe! The car looks and performs WONDERFUL!! I absolutely love it! Coming from driving a Honda Civic (which I also loved!!), the mileage is a huge adjustment, but average for this type of vehicle. It is well worth the sacrifice to have the style, comfort and safety.

Electronics are poorly made
I have owned the car for 3 months now and my radio which controls most everything doesnt work and sun roof controls went out all after owning the car for 2 months. Been waiting on the new radio now for over a month. Sad to say, very disappointed in the manufacturing.

overland 2WD V8 , just one hiccup
This review is relative. The dropdown doesn't let us choose the V8 non SRT versions. I came off a V8 BMW X5 4 x 4 sport package to this Jeep in the mid $47K range. Its a truck chassis but smooth ride , but less car than the X5. Chose the V8 2WD , all good except Water pump failed at 36K in warranty . The only other glitch was a blown fuse on a 12 V cigarette lighter socket. Love the tech, the interior styling and leather, spec - heated seats and wheel, large size spare. Some reviews may be V8 like mine, V8 with rear traction control fine on most streets tho no snow in TX..So I had mine on a 3 year lease and bought it at the end. Its an AMERICAN truck and has had one $165 water pump fail in 36K which isn't good but the electronic Tech said stop. In the same 3 years my X5 was in the Garage 10 times for serious faults electrics, fire (!) ,suspension, air bags . The 8 speed transmissions come from two sources , maybe I have a good one, its smooth. 17 Mpg is my max with 15 average. Downside is the dealership, 1 week waiting list always. 2 recalls fixed (one on Trans) . good value.

Blessed
Transmission issues are definitely something to consider, so make sure you research the crap out of the vehicle you’re considering.

What can I say it's only been to the dealer for oil changes and updates. By the way it's a Grand Cherokee Summit Turbo diesel.

Mixed Feelings
I bought a 2014 Overland in May of 2014. I get the Phone message/See Dealer for Service daily but when I take it to the dealer it never shows up, so nothing can be done. I thank God that I bought an extended warranty because the Quadralift failed, and the back two shocks went. I have under 22,000 miles on it right now. The dealer had it for almost a month. It's fine now but the cost of the repairs on the paperwork shocked me. I spent a fortune on this Jeep (my 4th, all GC's) and now I'm concerned because I barely drive it, baby it, and something huge went bad. Also, lots of recalls. I love Jeep GC's in general and the ride is to fine for...I just hope now things don't start going bad. It's five years old.

The absolute best vehicle I've ever owned
We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland diesel model with 93,000 miles on it. Absolutely NOTHING has gone wrong with it, ever. Only routine maintenance and 2 sets of new tires. I've never had this experience in my 30 years of driving. And since it replaced a BMW, which had constant issues and failures, this has been a wonderful experience and has completely made me move back to American cars. It has great fuel economy, and we can drive from Santa Fe, NM to the California state line (700 miles) on a single tank of fuel. On the highway, we average around 30mpg, and overall get about 26mpg -- incredible for such a spacious vehicle. We've towed trailers with it, driven across the continent with it, twice. Ours has the off-road package, and take it up into the mountains of New Mexico when I can, and it performs flawlessly with the air suspension and low range. No other SUV other than a Range Rover has this level of comfort and luxury is this good off-road (and those cost a fortune and are a maintenance nightmare). And the heated and cooled seats make long road trips effortless. The only downside is that I know it won't last forever, and I know that there won't be anything equivalent to it when the time comes to replace it: Diesel, supreme comfort and great offroad capabilities -- the car market is moving away from two of these.

Best car I ever owned
I have the V8 model. bought it with 45k. I have over 108k now. only problem I had was the water pump went early on. I took it to my mechanic who said the OEM wasn't available so he put on a third party water pump. I sent the receipt in and they paid it under warranty. My only complaint is the navigation system is dumb compared to google. If this thing had google maps it would be perfect. I would pay for internet access to get it. Voice recognition is not great but there is no better vehicle, for me, that I know of. At least in the price range. Oh and why is the V8 not an option in the drop down on the edmunds website? It was an option on the car. Too many great things on this car to mention. Get the Overland with V8.

Overland Diesel: Robust comfortable luxury
2014 FWD Diesel Jeep GC Overland -ve’s Many of the dealers are sharks and service is dreadful and it lets the car company down majorly, let alone the customer Diesel needs min 20-30 minute drive just to maintain decent level of carbon burn off so the car doesn’t start to fail by that I mean lose power and sound really ropey. I’ve stopped doing longer journeys so I have to sell my car and I’m heartbroken/ that’s how much I like it. This is frustrating. 2 catalytic converters in the first year Depreciation not great. Annoying as the Wrangler is brilliant on that front +ve’s Car performs well Great mpg vs the cars of its size and in its era It’s a luxury tank without feeling like a tank ie it’s solid and should look after you in an accident which hopefully you don’t have! Quiet cabin and very comfortable long distance If I could afford another I would buy the gas version from the car’s perspective but the dealership service is lousy so no I won’t be buying it’s replacement from Jeep

Complete failure
Engineers of this vehicle should face criminal charges for allowing this vehicle to be put on the road. I have loved jeeps since childhood and always dreamed of owning a grand Cherokee. Through many years of saving and sacrificing I was able to write a check for my new Grand Cherokee limited. From that point forward it has been the most miserable experience of my life. There were initial items requiring attention, then there was recall after recall after recall. One such recall involved the complete removal of dash and interior (multiple times) and no vehicle for 3+ weeks. This came when I dropped the vehicle for a scheduled routine maintenance which should have been same day service. The poor service experiences list is too big to define. Lack of communication, being lied too, lack of knowledge of how to repair, down right offensive and rude interactions, excuses, and denial are just a few expectations one should have when it comes to Jeep and Chrysler. The above alone is enough to motivate anyone away from ever paying for this torture, but I want to get to the biggest and most serious issue of all. On 5 fully documented occasions when parking the vehicle on a slight inclined upon exiting the vehicle, the vehicle has free wheel rolled backwards down the incline until stopped naturally of by some object in its path. In one instance the vehicle driver door knocked my daughter down and came within inches of rolling over her foot. I even have security footage of a couple of the events which are quite eye opening and very scary to watch. Perhaps the saddest issue of all is Jeeps denial and avoidance of the problem. Up until now we have managed to escape a catastrophic event, but this failed electronic transmission design should never have been manufactured and presents an on going major and dangerous problem which will cause serious injury or incident as I have searched and learned that this issue is not just my own. On the other hand if you always have someone with you who can quickly run out and block your tires before you exit the vehicle, then ......... no forget that it would still suck!!!

Electronics problems
We’ve loved this Jeep. But in the past 4 months, we’ve had to take it in to the shop 4 times due to electronic problems. Each time, out of nowhere, all of the electronics flash on and off, the wipers turn on automatically, and it drives very rough. It resets a couple times, then is drive able with the engine light on. This last time, the Jeep dealer recommended that I trade it in. They don’t know why the electronics keep going haywire.

Nice sturdy vehicle but...cheap parts?
I really do like this vehicle but I have had some issues that I've had to deal with. 100K had the PLASTIC oil filter housing on top of the engine start leaking oil due to a crack. Radiator had a leak also. Never had to replace a radiator at 100K. Last really annoying issue (at 150K) was to have to pay $1800 to have my climate control "doors" replaced behind the dash which involves taking the whole dash off. Very involved and expensive repair due to, wait for it...a PLASTIC gear that broke. I truly hope Jeep has improved these design flaws. These are all common problems I've found out and it's not like 2014 was a redesign year either.
Love My Diesel
I have the 3.0 Eco Diesel and I love it. Great power and fuel economy. I get 20 in the city and up to 30 on highway trips. Turbo lag, well...it lags. Not horrible just noticeable compared to my wife’s gas car. In interior well made and quiet. Comfy seats with heating and cooling. Only gripe is a rattle. At idle the tail pipe sounds a little loose. I can put my foot on it it stops. Probably just need a new hanger. Not the Jeep’s fault though. Would definitely recommend, especially the diesel for country and distance driving.

Awesome
Actually a Summit 2WD with the 5.7 Hemi. I've had it for two month and like my 2011 RAM has been a dream to own and drive... It's a bit thirsty but the delivery of power when needed , great... The fit and finish is still outstanding considering this is a seven year old SUV..... It is a keeper..
Great year for the model
I had the diesel fully loaded overland and it’s been a great vehicle for the last 8 years. Other than minor recalls and diesel fiasco it’s run great gets good mileage and has gone half way around the country. Sucks they are removing diesel option or I’d get the new one. But diesel is worth more than new high tech.

Ooops
Always wanted a jeep and was very happy until the warranty ended. Why? It’s very costly to make simple repairs. Examples, to replace the front headlights you can’t just place your hand inside and remove the bulb, the opening is to small. The service department has to remove the front bumper assembly to replace it. Same for the rear light over the license plate. Since it’s a one piece assembly, the entire assembly has to be removed to replace one light bulb. The cost was quoted over $600 for parts and labor. Really!!!! Seatbelt housing broke, with parts and labor over $800 to replace. By the time you pay for these small repairs, collectively you have a down payment for another vehicle. It’s seems like this jeep is designed to where it has to be taken back to the Jeep service department for repairs. No do it yourself here. We all know if you take it some place else and it’s not done correctly, your out double the cost for repairs. If other Jeep models are the same….Sorry, as much as I like my jeep, I will not be buying another one.
Premaintance on mine .In 5yrs about 4000 spend. But
The ride is great but the fuel economy is bad ..When I got mine from Matthew motors in Wilmington nc .Life tyme warranty on the motor and transmission.

the Best SUV for the $
the Grand Cherokee is by far the best car for the money. The Jeep has a level of luxury and refinement that rivals that of the land rover or even Mercedes SUVS. I've had other luxury cars(namely an Acura) and this jeep offers the save refinement and the go anywhere capabilities of the Jeep brand. The interior has so much technology, two LCD displays that are easy to use yet advanced enough. I'm very happy with my 2014 Jeep,I highly recommend this vehicle for someone looking for luxury SUV that is refined yet capable. its great car, its as home navigation the mall parking lot as it would be transferring the Amazon. its the best car I've ever owned.

Sun visors and rear cross path sensor bad
The sun visors are absolutely useless and the vehicle is undriveable under certain sunny conditions. The rear cross path sensor is WAY too loud and there is no way to disable it or adjust the volume. It would not be good to travel with an infant - their hearing would surely be damaged. I have to wonder if the designers of this Jeep ever actually drove it for an extended period of time! I am referring to the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, 2014 model.
