Used 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Consumer Reviews
Is this a Jeep?
Have owned a Cherokee, Wrangler, and driven the Libertys. If you took the Jeep logo off the steering wheel, I would think I was driving a higher priced SUV! Jeep has finally gotten something going here. Drove a 2004, thought it was nice, but the 2005 is a dramatic increase in ride quality, handling and performance. The 6 is nice, with decent fuel economy (better then my Wrangler was). The Laredo is a nice package, have turned many heads with it. No more cheap plastic on the bottom on the body. Jeep has added many luxury features that enhance the experience.
Wanted to love it
This car is amazing... when it's working right. I've had so many problems, cracked axle (seriously), new tires at like 50,000 miles, transmission computer glitches, had to replace the stereo system, new shocks, and now the instrument cluster is the latest. I've put way more money into this car than it ever was worth. And I love it, taking it off road was awesome, but I was always freaked out that something would happen to it, almost too much to enjoy it. Honestly I can't wait to trade it in for something more reliable.

1st Jeep Grand Cherokee
This is my first Grand Cherokee, and I have not been overly impressed. The build is very good, not one rattle or squeak, however the transmission is very slow to change gears when you need to down shift. The 3.7l V6 has adequate power but would be nice if it had about 20 more horses. During the first 6 months, it spent a week in the shop due to check engine light, had to replace fuel rail and air conditioner compressor. Fuel mileage is about 23mpg on the highway, not bad for this size vehicle. Back seat is cramped for adults. Standard radio fair, should have upgraded to better unit. Not sure I would consider this vehicle again. Weak transmission.
Nothing but endless problems...
My husband had a 1999 Jeep and gave it to his mother - still running at 250K miles. Thought we could go for the 5.7 HEMI new in 06 (it was leftover 05 inventory) but I am willing to take any loss to get rid of it now. My battery has died constantly since Feb 2007, 10 months into ownership with less than 12,000 miles. Had the battery replaced twice (at $220 ea - not covered under warranty and no option to get anywhere but the dealer!!), replaced the alternator, replaced defective sunroof motor that was drawing power, repaired an AC leak, replaced the starter and now having the powertrain control module replaced while I am 300 miles away from home and stuck having to get it towed! NO MORE!
Great Purchase
Great looking SUV. Handles nicely. Comfortable for my long commute to work, especially with my heated seats on winter mornings.
