3rd Jeep

This is my 3rd new Jeep since 1996. The first, a Cherokee Country impressed me immensely, giving nearly trouble free service during 6 years of ownership. Replaced by a 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 4.0 engine. I was happy with the design but mechanical problems, while never putting it out of service, were exasperating. The fuel mileage was underwhelming too. This new Grand Cherokee Laredo offers better ride, better build quality, much better performance with a 4.7 V8, and (believe it or not) better fuel economy! My one gripe is that for an extra $225 the paint quality should not exhibit the flaws I have found.

Serious malfunction of brakes after 67 miles. Continuous problem of transmission short shifting in and out of 1st gear. Gas mileage lower than advertised. Styling and interior room good. Poor pickup for quick acceleration. Last Jeep we buy.

Solid Car Overall....

Bought an 05 Lauredo 4x4. 110 miles currenlty. No issues but I actually did the maintence....my local mechanic told me you gotta change the transaxle fluid on jeeps or it will burn up. Keep up on that and your oil changes. Got 70k out of 1st set of brakes, 100k out of two original tires. Replaced the tires with General Grabber HTS, much quieter now at speed but lost 1mpg highway. Good tradeoff as far as I am concerned. Be forwarned, everything you do to this car is expensive. Brakes were 1k, tires 800.00, oil $50, Transaxle flush $200.00 Do the maintence though or just save yourself the trouble and buy a Toyota. Overall a very good car my my standards though!

Rides GREAT, lots of extras that are standard. Wonderful design and build. Great power from a 3.7L V6! 4X4 model is a "all-time" making the fuel economy TERRIBLE. In a day of $3 a gallon fuel, this is a BAD "gas guzzler".

Take a Closer Look at the Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee is a fun vehicle to drive. In reading some of the professional reviews, I was skeptical until I actually drove the Jeep. It has a 4.7 V8, which has plenty of power, and we have found it to be a very comfortable vehicle. The interior has plenty of room and everything is conveniently located. Ours is "optioned" up pretty good and has the Quadra Drive II. Overall, I would highly recommend the Grand Cherokee to anyone looking for a fun, mid-size SUV.
