Used 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Consumer Reviews
very well done
we have the JGC with the V8 and selec- trc II full-time 4wd. The vehicle is fantastic in sand and snow. The V8 has tons of power and averages 16.5 mpg overall. Out local dealer upgraded replaced my front calipers under the recall.
Grad Cherokee after 2 years owned
Generally we like it. Depreciation is HORRIBLE!! How about this drop in value? When we bought it 2 years ago, it was worth about $27K. Two years later, it's worth $15K private party. About a 20% depreciation per year!!!! outrageous. At this rate, it won't be worth anything when I'm done paying it off in 2 more years. I like the V8 power, and it's never given us mechanical trouble. Suspension sways from side to side pretty badly on turns though.

Reliable: afraid not
At 8000 miles rotors needed turning, at 16000 rotors were replaced, at 36000 rotors needed turning. Window lift drivers side @ 18000; heavy shifting-firmware replacement-still bad; Both seat heaters replaced; starter motor at 36000; hood lifts at 36000; power steering at 38000; radio power intermittant--no fix; excess side slip. Cost of ownership and depreciation is outragous.
Transmission
I really loved my Jeep until the transmission went out without warning!! My jeep has less than 73000 miles. I knew that Chrysler was having problems with their jeeps in the mid to late 90's, but I bought my jeep used because I thought they had fixed the problem. I bought it with @42000 and 30000 miles later I am without a vehicle. I did contact Chrysler hoping that since the mileage was so low they would consider fixing it for free. It would have been nice if they would have at least diagnosed the problem, but of course they were completely hands off and of no service. I had just looked at the new Commander. Needless to say I didn't buy. Don't trust this vehicle's drive train!!!
NO BACKING ON PRODUCT
I HAVE TWO GRAND CHEROKEES. MY WIFE AND I ENJOY EACH OF THEM. HOWEVER THE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEM IS THE BIG DRAW BACK. THE MANUFACTURER DOES ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A PROBLEM AND IS ONLY ISOLATED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER. BOTH OF MY JEEPS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND CHANCES ARE YOU DO TOO. MAKE YOUR REPORTS AND DOT LET THEM PUSH US AROUND.
