1990 Infiniti Q45
This car was given to me by my dad as my first car, and I did not like it at first just from appearance and how old it was. After I drove it for a while, a gained a deep respect and appreciation for what this car is. It can compete with any luxury sedan from 1990 and can keep up with others that are even newer. I live in California and take this car on canyon runs, and can keep up with brand new V6 camaros and others. Its also great because it is easy to work on, as it does not have all of the electronics that newer cars do. Its plenty fast and sporty, but also extremely comfortable. Because it is an old car that did not sell very well, there are OEM parts available if something goes but these parts can be expensive to purchase. Overall, I love this car and can say that for what it is, it is a fantastic all around car.

Better than my 2006 Toyota
Perfect car for just about anyone. A lot of horse power to pack a punch. Fun and useful. There's plenty of room but it's not too big. Works great for a family car as well. Best Car I've ever had. Even better than my 2006 Toyota Camry. The Q45 is a great car!
1991 Q45
well ive jad this car for a few days and i noticed it was not only fun to drive but had the power to make it fun to drive, i checked the ratings and what not but the only thing i have noticed was that the power steering has a few issues
Is This Q for You?
A beautiful but flawed car. Anyone who goes near a used Q with the active suspension will regret it for the life of the car. Based on my experience it requires total replacement about every 4 years at a cost of $8-10K. Not exactly an acceptable maintainence item! Many other (expensive) repairs over the years with many covered by an extended warranty I purchased. I maxed out on that about 4 years in. However, when the car was on the road I loved it and I would have kept it longer if thought I could ever get it to a reliable state. If you want a used Q of this body style look for a newer model (99 or 2000). You can't afford this car today even if you get it for free.
An excellent choice
I purchased this vehicle approximately 5 years ago and am the second owner. The car has been everything one could ask for. It is stylish, fun to drive, comfortable, safe, and does not attract unwelcome attention. Best of all, I have over 100k miles and it has been 100% rock solid reliable. I take good care of my vehicles, but this thing seems like it was carved out of one solid block of metal. Strongly recommended.
A blast to drive
I have loved this car ever since I bought it. It has a very power engine and is yet very comfy. If someone gets a 90-93 THEY HAVE TO REPLACE the chain guides for the timing chains. They are plastic from the factory and break. If the guides break the timing chain can flop around and the crankshaft or cam can jump a tooth resulting in piston to valve contact. The updated versions are metal backed and do not fail. This is a very big job for the D.I.Y'er. At the dealer expect to pay $3000 for the job. If you do it yourself the parts will cost $200 Once the chain guides are done with proper maintenance these cars can go to 300,000K easy! These cars are great and VERY reliable
1992 Infiniti Q45
I loved my "Q" I hated my "Q" ! Transmission failure at 65,000 miles. Engine failure at 126,000 miles. Piston hit valve total engine loss. AC failed. Window lifts front doors failed. Sun roof motor, antenna motor, door lock driver side failed. Easily the most costly and unreliable car I have ever owned. No Nissans for me EVER!!!
A "Q" Beginner
I was looking @ a 740i when I saw on autobytel this 91 Q45a.It was in Conn. and I thought I would check it out. For less than $7000 I thought it was a bargin. It had 69000 mile. The car was garage kept and still looked and smelled new.I've put 3000+ miles on it. The power steering pump went and getting that fix was a joke.Over a week to get a rebuilt and it was the wrong part.I bit the bullit and went with the factory new part.3 times the cost!!I'm not complaining of the cost,I went into this knowing repairs would be costly. Gas mileage is very good.I have a 98 jeep grand cherekee limited w/ the V 8. It gets 13 in the city 17 on the highway. The Q is 17 to 18 in the city.
great car
i just bought this car yesterday, and the car rides excellent, it looks awesome and it's great
I bought a lemon
Spend 4k+ and bought a lemon, with lots of problems on transmition, power steering, and electricity. spend another 2k to repair, no use at all, still have electricity problem again and again and again, guess this car is been flooded sometime ago. besides, it really a good car, very comfortable even it's a 90's car, performance is good thanks to v8 and automatic overdrive, accleration is good too. Fule enconomy is fair.
Expensive Junk
if you live where it snows you're already in trouble. this car slips and slides like you wouldn't believe ok i 1st i took it to get a tune up no problem then months later the Engine dies $2,000 2 months later the tranny blows $1,200 then 3 months later the alternator goes out $350, Ac compresser goes out the list goes on and on don't buy this vehicle you will regret it 1990-1993 model Lemon
Awesome to drive, nightmare to repair
This car is not for those who are used to Japanese reliability. I would compare this more with having an exotic vehicle that no one in America can actually work on. Owned this car for less than a year. I absolutely loved driving it (When it ran properly). It acted up more than any vehicle I had ever owned. Even had a lifetime warranty from AAmco, what a joke, they rebuilt it 4 times in less than a year. I finally just traded it in just to get rid of the headache.
scooby's Adventure
This is a fun to drive luxury car that out preformed the competition that year
Love my Infiniti
Love my car except and its dependability. Have a few electrical failures, i.e., telescopic steering wheel & seat memory. Had to replace speedometer, after a ticket! Injectors have been a replacement issue as well. Otherwise, the car looking great and a daily driver.
Older but fun
Beautiful fun car. It had 180k miles, something I was hesitant about, but she runs like new. Extreme power, the V8 is in good condition. No problem scorching little 6 cylinders at stop lights. Good looks, leather, too bad I don't have some nice wheels to finish the package. Speedometer goes up to 160, but haven't really tried it.
best and worst of a 1991 q45
this car is comfortable moves very quickly. it has great power and has had nearly no needed work done on it. it rides like a dream and the control of the car is very good.the car gets 20 miles per gallon on the freeway and about 15 in town. it is a very stable car and responds well in the mountains or on windy roads. the engine is still strong and reliable as is the tranny and a/c etc. no compliants. the paint job is very good and shows no wear.the sun roof has had no problems and only one window control has had to be replaced.
Ilove driving
I love driving this car Ilove all the features of the g45 this car drive a nice and comforable
Do Your Research
The 91 Q45T is an outstanding car. I researched it extensively prior to purchase. The car is on Motor Trend’s used car hot list. Car & Driver issue in 91 had the Big Q rated second to the LS 400 by a hair but said that if you want a driver’s car its # 1. The car rides and handles extremely well especially with the Hicas steering package. The car stopped within 15 ft. of C/D’s record for braking (by a Supra ie: sports car) at the time. The power is renown and even garnered praises from Consumer Reports. The only downside is lack of cupholders and lower resell price primarily due to Infiniti’s initially horrendous marketing.

From now on I will only buy Infiniti
This has been the best car ever it a head turner. I like the quality of the make and even though it is older it is still very much in style.
A Little Trouble, But Well Worth It
I've had my 92 Q45 for several years, and over 70K miles. It has been a fairly trouble free car and quite a joy to drive. It has great power. It is virtually effortless to drive. It rides like a cloud on air. If you like tight stearing and road feel like a BMW, this is not the car for you. I did finally have one major expense after 100K miles. I needed to replace the fuel injectors. That cost me 1600, but now it runs like new again. My major issues with the car concern the annual cost of ownership. You have to pay fairly high insurance rates, plus it only takes premium gasoline that it tends to drink up in city driving.
awesome
I have this car for ten years. It still runs like a top. The only parts replaced tires and brakes. Solid will take on any sports cars.
Ist of three Q45s - Still Going
Bought it used in 1996 at 41,000 miles along with 100,000 mile warrantee from Infiniti. They repalced transmission at 50,000 and essentially the entire A/C. After warrantee expired at 100K, I replaced one fuel injector, a belt idler pulley, an alternator, a suspension arm (front bushing), bellows (rubber) on the rack and pinion steering and of course brake pads and rotors as consumed.
Q-ship
one super rev happy engine
Reliable car
This car is great for dependability, It will never let you down, It's great electronic devices let you know ahead of time before problems occur. If a light is out, or fluid is low..It is very attractive fun, and dependable
Cash cow riddled with defects
At 120,000 KM the transmission went. $4,600 repair job. At 130,000 KM the fuel pump went $950. At 140,000 KM all injectors, the fuel pump again, regulator, O2 sensors, electric antena, door sensors and a bunch of other compentent all failed within four weeks of each other. Cost. $5,000. For an Infiniti "flagship" car, this vehicle is riddled with major defects. Stay far away from any model under 1995. You will get get hit with major repair costs. Almost 100% of the Q45 owners I've corresponded with have had the same issues. The dealer service manager has also confirmed that they are in fact lemons. Isn't that nice.
Not a bad car
This is a great luxury car with a lot of power(4.5 287HP V8 engine). My car has over 150k miles and I've never had a problem with it other than normal maintenance. Certainly not as smooth as a BMW, but what is. Overall I think its a fine automobile with some spunk to it.
Sit back and enjoy the ride
Super car to own. Fast, comfortable, and reliable. This car is an absolute dream to drive, I mean you step on the gas and you actually move. I have nearly 160k miles and all I had to change so far was the water pump and the fan. As long as you keep up with your preventative maintenance (tune ups, oil changes and annual inspections) this car won't let you down.
Best Car I've Owned
This is, by far, the best car I've owned. A great engine, combined with a great interior are the best aspects of this car. Exterior styling may turn off some, but I love the old Q's. I now have 138,000 miles on it and still love cruising around in it. Only downfall is poor traction in the snow (even with traction control option)
Good Car
The Q has been a good vehicle. Purchase warranty with vehicle up to 100,000. Unfortunately, problems didn't occur until after warranty expired. Currently have 144,000 - transmission failing, control arms have been replaced twice. Door locks mechanics replaced twice. Experience problem with compression and heads replaced. Performance has been great. The 278 horses really move this car. My '89 Nissan Maxima has been a more realiable car.
Best Sport Sedan Period
Enough said. No other sedan can match the quality and performance of the Q45 for under $50k. It really is the quintessential poor man's 7 series BMW. I know; I've owned both.
Cheap to acquire - but expensive to maintain
It was my first car back in 2002 when my parents bought it for $4000 on the side of the road. But I'm pretty sure we got a lemon/salvage because the car started to break down not even one month after purchase. The AC is the first thing to go out, it would sometimes blow cold air and sometimes not, and because it has electronic controls instead of a mechanical linkage. The problem is almost un-fixable given the age of the car. It is also a gas guzzler, and the acceleration is only ok. The worst of all problem is that the car sometimes would lose power and just stall in middle of the road. There is no way to bring the car back, even after changing the alternator. The mechanic said there is probably electric wiring problem but it was never found. The car lasted a few more years sitting in my parents garage after I went to college, and one day after oil change the mechanic had somehow bend the front hood and it just popped up in middle of the road when I was driving, and that was the end of the story for that car. My parents traded it in for couple hundred bucks and got a new car instead... Regardless it was still a interesting piece of memory as being my first car.
