good vehicle, does everything ok, superior MPG, I get 33 avg. The trans is generally smooth but it has its hiccups. Plenty of interior room, very comfortable inside. Overall satisfied but would not buy this car new (resale value is horrible).

very proud and happy to with what hyundai have done with its brand lately, my sonata was the base gl version i wanted an suv or either a toyota or honda sedan after testting several camry's and accords from diffrent dealers i almost bought the camry, i was so close to buy a camry that all i needed was to bring back a proof of insurance, but next door was a hyundai dealer so i gave my self options and now i drive a sonata gl, i love the pick up from the 4 banger engine, you dont feel too slow on the streets, very comfortable for even my 3 kids riding in the back seat, roomy interior and trunk, very good on ga$, the only time i take it to dealer is to change the oil not flaws yet, best warrant

I have owned the car for 2 weeks and have driven it 460 miles. I've had an opportunity to do some highway driving (approx. 200 miles)in addition to local and I have been very impressed with the experience. The car is roomy, handles well, and my gas mileage during this break in period has been excellent. I have only 2 recommendations, offer a passenger power seat and folding side view mirrors. These actually don't detract from the good experience. I have had Acura Tl's for the last several years and I am impressed by the performance of the Sonata. I am still puzzled by the "low" price, Don't know how they do it, all in all a winner.

I have owned my Sonota for 2 months now and it is the best car that i have ever driven. I am 6 foot 2 inches tall and this car has more leg room, head room and shoulder room then the Accord or any other competitors and it drives so much better as well. The price was great, there is no better deal out there when it comes to buying new.

I didn’t think they could improve the Sonata this much but they did. It's huge inside; lots of trunk space and a lot of power -- 235 hp. How do they get better gas mileage than the last year’s model that is 65 less horse power? I love my new car!

Is Camry & Accord worth an extra $4-8K??

I took the "Hyundai Challenge" and became a believer. I first drove an Accord and a Camry and after driving the Sonata there was no way to justify spending an extra $4 to 8K for a car in this class. The Sonata is a great car, smooth ride, solid feel, and looks great. I went with the LX with the moonroof and 6 CD player package. Comes with leather, heated seats, V6, shiftable automatic, and loads of safety features. Taking advantage of the rebate I got the car for $21K. Did all the negotiating for the car thru email and was extremely pleased with the experience and the dealership. I am hoping Hyundai will now live up to Honda and Toyota's quality and durability - time will tell!

This car is amazing and for the price is the best bargain available. The V4 is more than enough power. If your looking for a Mid-Sized Sedan give this one a look and you will see it drives just as good if not better than the Accord or Camry.

The Sonata is great value for money. Quality is acceptable even for an entry level luxury car. Will not set the car lanes on fire but is a consistently solid performer on the road. Well thought out interior, fairly good quality of accoutrements. Excellent interior room and comfort. Smart looking exterior. Needs a better radio. Got my LX with sunroof and audio package for 19,700 after $2000 in rebates and $1000 loyalty bonus!! This is a sensational price for a car of this quality. Lumbar support seems to be a bit minimal.

06 Sonata comments

The 06 Sonata has a wonderful engine - smooth and powerful, with a lovely ripping sound that only a fine engine can provide at full rpm. The exterior styling is classic and distnguished. The panel gaps are as the narrowest and thinest in the auto world - absolute world class regardless of price. My comparison shows that an LX is $4,600 less than a Camry or Accord with the same equipment. Hyundai's estimate of the difference is low. The suspension is well controlled and balanced. There is no torque steer and understeer is well controlled. The interior is well designed with good quality of materials for the class. The tolerances and build quality of the entire car is very good.

A few electrical bugs, eventually fixed under warranty. Other than that this car is a 10. For all the reasons written here, and the versatility of dropping the rear seats to carry LARGE items in a pinch! And the service check ups are VERY cheap. I would not sell mine for the prices quoted on Edmunds. It is worth several thousand dollars more, at least.

I owned a 1999 Elantra previously and the 2006 Sonata far exceeded my expectations. I did not have any trouble from my Elantra and I wanted to stay with the 10 year warranty. I had looked at the 2005 Sonata and they too are nice but the 2006 is larger, roomier and to be quite honest, it compares easily to other midsize cars in looks. My insurance agent could not believe it was a Hyundai. I love my car!

Don't buy a Hyundai. The 06 Sonata is my 4th of 5 Hyundai's. At 74,000 miles the airbag warning light came on. The dealer wants $1100 to replace the seat sensor. Asked for assistance from Hyundai. No thanks,it's 15,000 miles out of warranty. Still has powertrain though. This is the second time i've asked Hyundai to repair a safety issue out of the base warranty and the second time they've refused. That won't happen with Toyota or Honda. So don't buy a Hyundai. When the cars age and safety issues happen, they will show you to the curb.

Overall, it's been a solid car with decent reliability. It's solidly built and pretty quiet on the highway. Gas mileage is middling, but it is a V6. Power is decent for a family sedan. Pros: Reliable, fairly quiet, inexpensive to maintain Cons: Interior is low rent. For some reason, the suspension has started to squeak when going over any small bumps. Hasn't affected handling. May be due to the excessive dry heat (Phoenix az) we have here. Have had to replace radiator hoses and one of the windshield washer nozzles (again probably due to the heat here). Would I buy again? Probably not. But for reliable transportation at low cost with decent power, it's been a good purchase. It's like a good mule, not a quarterhorse. UPDATE: Well at this point any car is going to have problems. The concerning one is that out of ever 10 starts, i have to struggle to get it to turn over 1 or 2 times. I've replaced the key cylinder and it hasn't made a change in the problem. It's probably a loose circuit somewhere but I've gone ahead and replaced this vehicle. Overall it's been solid and dependable. But not exciting. At all.

I am very happy with my new car. I've been driving a 1996 Cavalier over the past 9 years until I decided lately to get a new one. Over the past 3 weeks, I've been researching and thinking of getting either a Camry or an Accord. But last night, my decision finally zeroed on to the Sonata after reading the reviews and the consumer ratings online. I am very impressed with the design of the car. The engine is very quiet and the ride is very smooth. I bought mine today, Dec 31, 2005 at $3900 less than the MSRP. The good ratings combined with the best price helped me decide for this car.

Great Car! If you want a solid car with the build quality of a Honda or Toyota without the sticker shock, this is it. Wife drives an 04 Santa Fe. She loves it, and it has performed wonderfully. Looked at a Sonata then, but the engines were just not that great. With the new/efficient engine and clean lines, Hyundai has a winner in the 06 Sonata. Anyone looking at an Accord or Camry would be well advised to drive a 2006 Sonata. Comparably equipped, it's no contest! Sonata even looks better.

My 2006 Sonata V6 has a "moan" like blowing in a bottle at speeds in excess of 60 mph. It makes driving the car a miserable experience. The dealer does'nt seem to want to find the source and tell me that is normal noise. I have taken it back three times. I seriously regret buying this car and I should have spent more and got a quality car. The Sonata is great looking but what you see is NOT what you get.

**If you have the V6 Engine take note** Hyundai knows about a problam with the timeing chain auto tensioner which will cause your timing chain to fall off on the V6 engiine. I have 3,500 miles on my "06 LX" and it had to be towed in to the dealer and have the engine removed, taken apart and put back together again. It was in the shop for one week out of service. How was Hyundai service ? the dealer did a great job fixing it but Hyundai offered no compensation. Hyundai and the dealer also told me they know about the problam with the V6 and are trying to pull cars off the lot to put in the new piece. This is my second Hyundai and my last.. Look at the Honda or Toyota not Hyundai

Purchased new the same year as our Honda Civic. Have put 74k miles in 5- years on Sonata, double that mileage on the Civic. Sonata feels & drive like the older care. Warranty is over on both. Civic runs like top. But, Sonata always has Engine Warning lights on. Handles & seat belts are breaking, also fixed prior under warranty. Costs building like crazy on Sonata. ESC has issues, dangerous loss of power occurs often. Was repaired both in and out of warranty. Both of us wish we would have gone with a Honda Accord instead. Sonata is cheaper. I got what I paid for.

I did not expect such excellent quality from Hyundai. Well this one with 5M runs like a Lexus IS300. Well actually better than the Lexus. The top two Japanese brands such as Honda and Toyota won their high reputation over the past couple decades. I think Hyundai will achieve the same high reputation within the next two years. This 06 Sonata OUTPERFORMS Toyota Camry and Honda Accord not only by the price advantage but also by its built quality and superior performance!

I was not in the market for buying a new car, but just happened to stop by a Hyundai dealership while my old car was being worked on. I fell in love with the looks, the overall fit & finish, the list of std. features, & the performance of the car. I've had this car for a month now and it's fantastic. Still going thru break-in period, so gas mileage is not great. (But as others have commented, need a few more thousand miles). The engine is powerful, 5 speed auto is butter smooth, the car is very quiet on the road. If you don't want to be a "me too" with Camry & Accord, give this car a serious look. GM & Ford, you'd better get your act together quickly or else!!

We have put 70,000 miles on this car in five years and our only expenses have been gas, oil changes and a new set of tires. It still has its original breaks. I drove it hard on a 1,500 mile interstate highway trip and averaged 33.1 mpg. When ethanol is added to the gas the mileage is not as good. I thought it was odd that a four cylinder car would have a 150 MPH speedometer. After I had the car three years a friend asked me how fast it would go. I was on a country road and when it reached 122 mph I backed off, so I don't know what it will really do. Also, this was with ethanol in the tank.

I really feel smug about all those extra features that I have and they don't. Took my boss for a ride and he said "my 04 BMW 535 doesn't even have some of this stuff" ha! I previously drove a V8 SUV. Loved my truck but I am in love with this car. I drive over an hour commute each way four days a week. My truck was a tank so I didn't worry about semi's and other SUV's. With this car, the speed and ease at which I am able to change gears and lanes means no worries because they can't catch me. I am big so the roomy interior and space between the steering wheel and driver seat is fantastic. A huge roomy trunk and spacious back seats means my passengers are just as comfy. Car only has single cd and no MP3 adapter so aftermarket stereo is a must. The speakers sound pretty nice and since I love all music a booming base is not necessary. Gas is pretty good!

After EXTENSIVE research, I chose the Hyundai over Accord and Camry. Cost was over $4000 less and it had features I couldn't get with those models. Great Highway Car. V6 is Very Powerful and Torquey and a pleasure to drive. Extremely quiet, even with sunroof open. Gas Mileage is about 25 MPG overall with 75% highway (75 mph with air on). Considering Horsepower, quite acceptable. Dash is well laid out and easy to read in all light conditions. Controls are intuitive and seats are comfortable. Full featured, well options, superior handling, powerful car that looks good for a great low price. HIGHLY recommend.

I have never been interested in a Hyundai until I test drove a 2006 Sonata. I currently drive a 03 Passat 1.8t and was looking at VW, Mazda, & Saab until I drove a GLS 4 cyl. The only thing I didnt care for was the light (read hard to clean) cloth seats. Thats when I drove the LX (Leather & V6) and found it to be superior to the other cars we had tried at a much lower cost with a better warranty so I couldnt refuse. The car is whisper quiet, stays firmly planted on the road, has the quality feel of expensive brands and appears to be really well built. The under carriage air control appears to be well thought out and the detail to small items is stellar. So far its doing 22 & 28.8 MPG.

I had this car for almost 4 years and just traded it for an Azera. I do not have many complaints. There were only a few warranty repairs. The dealer always honored the warranty despite what some people say. My 4-cyl felt more like 192 horsepower than 162. There was ample power 95% of the time. The 4 speed auto was smooth and the manual mode worked well, if a bit slow. Averaged 30-33 MPG on trips and 16-20 MPG in city driving only. The ride was comfortable, but the car could have used a bit more structural rigidity (a few squeaks and rattles). Interior comfort was also good and noise levels were low unless you really wound up the engine. Doing your own maintenance is also simple.

Until July, every car I owned had at least 140,000 miles when I bought it. I did a lot of research and comparisons, and my Sonata ended up being fully loaded for just about the same price as a base model of Camry, Accord and Legacy. The car has the interior comfort and size of a full- size/luxury car. It gets good milage given the size & power of the engine. The features (power everything - including driver seat - the sunroof, the size of the trunk, etc.) are amazing, and are a deal that you can't and shouldn't pass up.

A truly desirable car

With the very low price and a full array of features and extras it simply makes this car to be one of the most desirable cars on today’s market. Safe drive - 5 Stars award for the front crash on both passenger and driver sides, also one of the few who earned the 5 Stars ratings for side impact tests. Powerful acceleration with smooth touring on low fuel consumption while maintaining high speed cruising. Amazing road handling for a low priced car. I’m able to take sharp ramps on 55 mph while other cornering behind and crawling on the 25 mph mark; ESC computer controls superb the wheels and the car speed when careless driving is involved

My wife and I have been driving her Honda Accord since 1998, so when I bought my Sonata in March '08 used w/ 18k miles for just over $15k, I was holding my breath a little that I wasn't getting 'sucked in" to the hype. Four months and 4000 miles later, welllll???? Maybe a tad. This car has amazing power, great interior and exterior looks. Build quality doesn't come close to Honda, though. I guess it's true. You get what you pay for. The paint job is maybe the worst I've seen on any car..there's a big money saving area for Hyundai. Also, sheet metal is thin. I even have a little metal bubble on the drivers floorboard that "pops" when I push off to get out of the car. 20mpg city/30 pure hwy.

Was looking to trade in a a 2000 Accord with manual transmission for a 2006 model. Have always driven a manual but wife (Elantra driver) suggested 2006 Sonata. Well done wife. We got the LX with the extras and I've been very impressed so far. No major flaws. Very comfortable (I'm 6'2" and 230lb) and plenty of space for 4 adults (the inlaws). We drove the 2006 Accord V6 and the Camry V6 and simply thought the Sonata was better. Enough said.

Traded in a gas guzzling Ram 1500. Was originally looking for an Accord. At first impression I didn't think it was even a Hyundai. Ride is smooth, responsive and quiet. Styling is impressive with overall excellent quality and construction. Has a great warranty to boot. Honda and Toyota definately have some competition now.

I went to a Hyundai dealership in my area to test drive the new Sonata. After all I was thrown into the market because my 1996 chevy cavalier Z24 that i loved truly(workhorse) was getting old. besides, having my wife constantly hassling me to get a bigger family car, without the 200+ thousand milage. I've been to every dealership and brand name possible and finally, one morning something lead me out of the bed to Hyundai, after long research. i walked into the place with the mind set of leaving with the 'ol Z24 with me. A brand new inexperienced salesman, looking for his very first sale, helped me to help him on a test drive. My credit was bad. The car sold me within a matter of 15 minutes.

Excellent build quality combined with luxury options brings this vehicle to a level second to none. Why pay more for Camry & Accord when you get the same degree of quality and I have owned both. Love the power on the V- 6.By the way this is my second Hyundai.I own a Elantra 5-door GT dubbed it the red rocket and that car is a winner too! Go Hyundai.

Bought my Hyundai Sonata because of the price, warranty, and features. Have owned it more than three years. Dealer replaced dead windshield washer pump at three years. No major problems in three years. Would and will buy more Hyundai products. My biggest complaint is the road noise when driving on the interstate. Those ole boys (and girls) in Alabama build a GREAT car for the money!
