Excellent car, I did my regular maintenance no major issues. beats any 4x4 jeep truck or SUV my extended family or friends have ever owned...I have had to rescue them many times or go pick them up..... to this day 15 years later runs great with 178,000 miles on it, best car thus far in my lifetime, I will always have Hyundai vehicles on my list to consider now... I might cry when I sell this, if I ever do! I have purchased the newly redesigned Tucson because the measurements are now very close to the 2001 Santa Fe but enjoy driving the Santa Fe better so far!

Although I cannot attest to the logevity of this vehicle (as I only had it for about 6 months) I can definetly say that it is extremely safe. I was in a head on collision on my way to work one morning, hit by a lifted '90-something Ford F-250 going about 60+ miles/hr. This Santa Fe did exactly what it was designed to do by crumpling the engine area, and other than the fact that the front end of the vehicle was smashed like an accordian, the rest of cabin area and the car was completely fine. I only walked away with a small break in my ankle, which was from me bracing myself as I tried to brake. I, as well as the paramedics on site, believe whole-heartedly that this vehicle saved my life.

I live in the midwest and our winters are brutal, so I had saved up about $4,000 to buy a used SUV that I could drive during snowy treks. Found this SUV with 100,000 miles for only $3K, with minor issues (heater didn't work, check engine light). Heater was easy fix, I passed e-check with some Seafoam, and have been driving for two months and love it. Snowed real bad last night, and felt very safe all the way home from work. Interior is boring but everything you need, handles well, fun to drive. Looked at older CRV's that had higher miles and that cost about a grand+ more. Very happy with this vehicle, and hope to drive it for another 100,000 miles.

Bought this one at 125K km, now has 205K. We've replaced only wear parts so far. It's a little underpowered for my liking but it did pull a u-haul trailer through the Canadian Rockies just fine.

My dad bought this car back in '01 and I remember the day we traded his old saturn for it. The car has 216,800 miles as of today and finally the transmission is "going" out, which is very good for an automatic. The engine is a bit small for a V6 but the car gets me around and safetly. The airbags are all still operable, other than normal maintanence like oil and the timing belts. This car has been amazing. The AC has been out a while and being in Arlington Texas and having 22 straight days of triple digit heat, it kinda sucks but the big windows rolled down help out a lot. My mileage has gone down a little cause of my transmission, but growing up with this car and now driving it is awesome.

After we drove ours off the lot we immediately had two problems. Paint was flecking off and our transmission went. The paint was redone on the trouble spots at no charge and we haven't had issues since. The transmission was replaced only to be replaced again a few months later. Since then we have had no troubles. Outside of oil changes, the odd light etc this car has been for the most part great. Two issues we have had to date have been the speedometer has gone four times now, each not covered. The other is the one power window has gone twice now. No engine problems or other cosmetic problems. Overall a fantastic deal

Haven't experienced any of the previous stated problems. Probably because I perform regular maintenance and treat it like an AWD V6 SUV, not Formula 1. I don't beat on it too much, occasional off-road fishing trips performs awesome in the mud (minus the 9 in of ground clearance. Decent gas mileage 20-24 with mixed driving and K&N flat filter.

I bought this car in August 2001 knowing nothing about its reliability. I've been pleasantly surprised. I compared it to the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV. Hands down the Hyundai was more comfortable, and had better handling and a better price. I got the base model, and although I live in Western New York, have never regretted not getting the AWD. It handles great in the snow and on corners. I've had only one minor mechanical problem fixed under warranty. I plan to keep this car for a long time.

It's a bit of a putt-putt but it works for me. Acceleration is slowed, nothing like when new but it still works. I usually work close to home so most of my mileage is recreational. That's cool. Handles really well in bad weather, takes a while to warm up but AWD pulls out of snow and ice with hardly a grunt. I've seen this vehicle without AWD almost stuck. The extra height helps me to see more, and makes me feel safer, it's a smaller but not the smallest sized SUV.

A fantastic vehicle, never a single problem (except for a software problem that made it stall twice), upkeep is minimal (finally replaced the original tires after 85000 miles), 27+ mpg (even in the city). I can't rave enough about my Sante Fe. Comfortable, fun to drive, reliable, economical, lots of cargo room. Excellant on long trips. I would keep it another 5 years, but have you seen the 2007s?

Well stating I have only had my Santa- fe for a few months now I must say I will never by another Hyundai ever again. The santa-fe is built cheap compared to other foreign models. The parts are extremely expensive. Parts are not high quality, transmission have many problems. Heated seat got so hot it burnt a hole in my drivers seat, center-console it very cheap plastic. Has left me stranded 3 times now and with a nice Wrecker bill also.

I have had my Santa Fe for almost 3 years now...and have had NOTHING but problems with it!! I have had to replace/repair so many things it's not funny. It has ranged from electrical issues in the engine (multiple), the cruise control had to be disabled at one point or the transmission got stuck in 1st...now it's a power steering issue. I am dumping this thing as soon as humanly possible. Hyundai was NO help at all of course, non-transferrable warranty and all that.

The first 3 months of ownership were wonderful. From them on it has been a complete nightmare. I have had an oil leak in the front differential; the ignition went out; the fuel tank doesn't register properly and only fills above 3/4 of a tank; the crank motor sensor went out on the freeway while I was in the fast lane; the center console broke twice and not the front bushings have gone out. WHAT MORE CAN I TAKE!!! This vehicle has been in the shop 21 times since I have owned it and I am currently waiting for my 22 visit once the parts come in.

I have had this vehicle since 2001 and has over 165,000 miles! It wasn't been without its share of problems though. The first major repair was a new transmission at 20k. Lots of other problems too all covered under the warranty. Since the bumper to bumper warranty has been out, only a few minor repairs, so I can't complain too much. Factory put quality tires on, didn't get a new set till 100k! Its a very comfortable vehicle and has been on many, many road trips. I think it may be getting time for a new vehicle, Hyundai will probably be at the top of my list, I think they've come a long way since 01, and the warranty and affordability can't be beat.

I bought this vehicle in 2001 just a couple months after the release. Today, I have 89,000 miles on it and I have been pleased with it's performance over the last 7 years. I've been to the dealer for only a few minor problems, the last and biggest was the power steering pump which was covered under my extended warranty. I've been pleased by the total package; AWD, comfort, reliability, performance, etc. I know this car doesn't do any one thing extremely well, but it does everything pretty darn well. It's well-rounded and solid. My only real complaint has been the paint. I feel like the color coat is about 1mm thick. It's fading, scratches MUCH too easily, and no clear coat of which to speak.

In 155000 miles I have replaced the drivers side sun visor, the rear hatch locking mechanism and the drivers side seat heater. That's the end of the list. Our Santa Fe consistently gets 24 MPG highway while delivering a comfortable ride and good handling. This car has been very well maintained so it still looks great and runs great. Probably the most "bang for the buck" that I have ever gotten in an automobile. I expect to get at least another 100k miles on this car.

I bought my 2001 Santa Fe used at a Toyota dealership, and within three weeks of purchase I had replaced almost 3000 worth of computer parts, as well as the spark plugs. The dealership was full of liars and crooks, but most importantly this car turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life. My transmission blew in late 2008 and cost me almost 4500 to fix, and I only fixed it because I still owe so much on the vehicle and the dealership did nothing to help me. As soon as I can get rid of this car, I will do so and I will never purchase another Hyundai again. It's a smooth ride and the seat is comfortable, but neither does me any good when the car almost never runs.

Have owned car 2 years and it has already been in the shop for major repair 2 times. Once I was stranded in a snowstorm when the alternator went out. The last shop trip was for a new transmission. Although the warranty covered everything, it's a huge inconvenience to have a broken car. Why spend money on a new car that you can't depend on???

2003 Ford F250, 1999 Subaru, 1995 Isuzu, 1995 Honda, 2001 Honda, 2004 Honda, I can go on and on about cars and trucks I've owned. This Hyundai however has to be the best vehicle that I have ever owned. I would recommend this SUV to anyone who has a small (2,3,4) size family. It's good in and around the city and even when we take a trip from Daytona to Washington DC. Personally, I've told my wife that I want a newer model 08,09,10,11,12,ect. I know this is the 1st so there are some minor flaws.

So, I purchased this vehicle about 1 1/2 years ago. I tell you what you need that 100,000 mi warrenty. Everything that goes wrong is time consuming. I was sucked in by the cheap price as most people are. Well I have now come to realize that you get what you pay for with Hyundai. Everything in the car is plastic, it all snaps and hooks together. It is not a quiet drive by any means. The gas tank is too small. It tows my snowmobiles but not with out some effort. You can't make it a 3 hour trip with anything in tow without a stop for gas again. Keep in mind that this car is worth nothing in 1-2 years time -- you cant get rid of it. No dealership wants it. You will be buried in negative equity.

The warrany is excellent, they've taken care of any problems (faulty sensor recall, corroded chrome handles, interior door panel) It is very reliable, and better in slippery weather than my husband's rwd/4wd truck. the downside is that there is a lot of highway noise, so if you're on the phone or listening to the radio, the volume needs to be turned way up.

It's got everything I need: long warrantee, good gas mileage, great looks, lots of space, a smooth ride, plenty of power, and generally a feeling of satisfaction no other car has given me so far. Just seeing another Santa Fe on the road makes me think "there goes another happy motorist", while everyone else misses out on our little secret. Oops - I may have just let the cat out of the bag! Oh well, I can't keep such a good thing secret forever. GO GET YOUR OWN AND FIND OUT!

Then I would have given this a 10 on the interior design. Those buttons are smaller than an ant's nose, and the buttons work in a very non-intuitive way. Other than that and a couple of minor quibbles (see below), it's great. This is the "other" car, with our main family vehicle being an Explorer. The Santa Fe is exactly what we wanted it to be.

Owned the Santa Fe for 14 months. Purchased for my wife but I fell in love with it too. Had it only a few months when a cross country move happened. Crossed the Rockies in December... We passed all sorts of other 4WDS on the side, but the Santa FE kept right on truckin'. I averaged aroung 24 mpg on the trip, so not bad at all. Could use a little more passing power, but you just can't beat the value and dependability of today's Hyundai. Definitely not the Hyundai of old.

My Santa Fe has 72K miles. It has been in the shop too many times to mention for poor performance, sputtering, and no aceleration. Dealer could not fix. Went to a friend - winds up dealer put the wrong cheap spark plugs and wires on. My car had only been serviced by the dealer, and never replaced plugs or wires. No one can explain. Also crank sensor went on fast lane of freeway. Have to replace battery at least once a year. Backtail lights consistently go out but they can not find the issue causing it. Also had to replace console and speakers several times. Paint is completely fading. 100K warranty? What's actually covered for 100K?

After 600 milse the Alternator went out after the first trip on a dirt road. Dealer wont fix car saying the car was abused. Bewhare of dealships not honoring warrantry. A complaint to the Hundia was usless. Like car but cant trust dealers to honor warrantry.

Since I purchased this car, I have had problems with the rotors and the lift gate latch. The rotors are constantly needing replacement. At first the lift gate would not open at all, and then it wouldn't lock. I wish that I hadn't been so hasty in my decision.

I've, in the past, alway purchased american automobiles. After careful review of all models of small SUV's I decided to try the Hyundai SantaFe. Have not found one thing bad about the vehicle and would definitely buy Hyundai again. The dealship is tops in all aspects.

My Hyundai was great .. for the first 60K miles or so. After that, replaced the fuel injector (twice), spark plugs (twice), and wheel bearings (in 3 wheels - twice in the left front wheel.) I now have 88K miles and it is in the shop for the 3rd time in 3 months. They're just not made for high mileage. What's worse is that the dealership does not stock a lot of parts, so many times they keep the truck for several days. Also, watch out for the warranty. The front wheel bearings are covered, but the back ones aren't. In the DC area, it's a $400 repair. Also, had 6sensors go out. None were covered by the warranty (after the bumper-to-bumper ends).

I can't say enough about the quality and performance of this vehicle for the last 50000 miles ( and my son's Sante Fe for the last 60000 miles). Other than a minor recall for a possible rusting oxygen sensor, both vehicles have NOT had 1 problem. This vehicle is about the same size as a Lexus RX300 AND AT LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE. Yes, Hyundai have had a bad reputation over the years but this is changing rapidly---wait till the maintainance stats start coming in. Take a look--you will be surprised.

I gave a lower reliability score because a front seal Transfer seal setn out and led to having to replace the casing, not a cheap fix. I'm second owner to the warranty was not valid for me but the dealer/manufacture kicked in for a third of the cost. I don't understand the lower ratings on "performance" but my 2.6 v6 really gets with it when merging into a fast freeway on ramp. It is really fast which surprised me on the test drive for an SUV. This vehicle has 8o,ooo on it when I bought it and the previous owners had kept really good care of this rig, it was like new and still is and, unlike the new models it still had the combo CD/cassette radio and a rear window that opens (love it).
