2024 Hyundai Kona Consumer Reviews

Not happy with our 2024. Kona
I like the way the car handles. Good on gas mileage. It has already been in the shop for a recall for the computer update. Then my Blue Link did not work for 6 weeks till they finally got it working. It is actually going back in the shop today because the GPS does not work now. Not real happy with this car. What next?

Roomy, Great Gas Mileage
Love the gas mileage, 24+ around town - stop and go - and 33+ freeway. The seats are very small and set in. This means you have to get into the car first before you sit. This is a design flaw. If you have short arms, as a passenger you cannot reach the door to close it without much difficulty. The car feels like there is way too much hard plastic. The seats also feel plastic, steering wheel wrapped in plastic. For the price Hyundai could have built a more comfortable experience.

Craptacular
My 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL Convenience Package was leased November 2023, has less than 4,000 miles and has now completely died twice. It is currently being towed away for the 2nd time in 4 months. There's zero explanation for the dead battery. The only thing worse than this car is the dealership service department that has me scheduled for an appointment in 2 MONTHS. Unacceptable doesn't begin to describe my experience.
Great new vehicle!
Really like my new Kona! This car is very roomy inside. In fact it's just as big as my 2021 Tuscon that I traded in. It is also pretty quiet inside. I love the way the screens are integrated into the dash. I hate the look of cars where the info screen looks like someone stuck an IPad on the dash as an afterthought. Was impressed that the hood has struts instead of just a prop rod. I have had this Kona for about a month and really like it. Love the looks and I got the Neoteric Yellow which really Pops against the black trim! Many people think it is an EV. I don't have a top of the line model, it is the SE, but it's still nice. My only downside so far is that the ride is a bit firm. It handles well also. Really glad I saw this car when I stopped by the Hyundai dealer.

AVOID
I have owned 4 Konos so very loyal to brand but this car has become a nightmare !! Recall after recall ( Parts on back order ) .. Sunroof assembly motor needs replaced already ! All injectors failed then reset. 4100 miles and keep going to shop!! We debating on trading and avoiding Hyundai from this point forward . HUGE mistake and Hyundai worthless customer service.

We love our little Kona!
I have owned only Toyotas for the last 30 years, and I was very impressed with our Kona. The technology is great, love the big screen for Apple car play. This is a second car, and it’s perfect for my husband and myself. The ride is quiet, comfortable, and smooth. We’ve only owned it for a few weeks, but so far, it was a great decision.
First Impressions Mean a Lot!
Just got home from the dealership and so far we are really impressed. We traded in a 2020 Nissan Rogue and don't feel too cheated by what is a smaller vehicle because it is so roomy inside. Love the handling and engine power compared to the Rogue. The tech features are so amazing and it's what attracted us to get it. Only drove a bit on the highway so far but everything is making us confident we bought the right car. I think the only drawback is going to be the mediocre mileage we are likely to pull. Great car so far. Can't wait to take it out for a long drive. After two more days driving it around and some highway time I can now say this car is fantastic. The Limited model has so much tech and near luxury features. I think the only thing it might be missing is rain sensing wipers. The shifting nob position and function will take a while to get used to but after decades of reaching down to change out of park etc it is understandable. The benefit of the location is the open space and storage between the seats.

A absolute steal for $35k!!!
So many good things about this car, and I’m new to Hyundai, love the complete redesign, tech, comfort, size, back seat leg room is ridiculously spacious for this class or even encroaching on a mid size. Ventilated cooled seats, what? Now that’s unexpected!! Love the gear shift being up by the wheel and all the open space it created in the middle with the retractable cup holders, just brilliant!! Love the futuristic exterior very much. Yes, the gas mileage is not the absolute best but it’s a much smaller issue for me with other cars in the family being hybrids (Tucson & Santa Fe, love them as well) 10 year warranty and free maintenance for 3 years, now that’s a cherry on top!!

I love it!
Honestly Hyundai offers a lot for what you are paying for. I just hope that this car lasts a long time. I just hit 1,000 miles and so far no issues. I will update if something happens.

Buyer BEWARE!
Bought my 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL 2.0L 4cyl AWD with the IVT transmission aka the 8 speed transmission. For the first roughly 10,000 miles the car ran and drove fine, no issues so far as i was concerned. around the 10,000 mile mark the car started to hesitate to accelerate mainly when accelerating off of a traffic light, would press on the pedal and the vehicle would begin to accelerate and then would shift to the next gear prematurely and refuse to build any rpm and would feel like it had a misfire / shutter and naturally i would push harder on the pedal and all of a sudden it would accelerate rapidly. this issue also happened on the highway where it would fail to down shift until a large amount of input was given on the pedal and the vehicle would again accelerate very rapidly. Brought it to the dealer 3 separate times complaining of the issue took multiple techs for a ride and even the service manager and got told so push harder on the pedal regardless of the effect on the gas mileage or drive it in sport mode or any this was the best "trade this one in and get the one with the 1.6T motor and you wont have the issues accelerating as it has a turbo"

Sweet Little Ride
We purchased a 2024 Kona LTD recently after driving a Honda Pilot for about a decade. It's only been a few months, but so far we are very happy with this purchase. We got a model that had been used as a loaner by the dealership and had a few hundred miles on it for about $7,000 off the normal price. The limited model is loaded with tech, infotainment and safety features and is also pretty fun to drive, thanks to a turbo engine, especially if you put it in sport mode. It also has a very convenient four-wheel drive mode that places equal power in all four wheels, for bad weather or harsher, hillier terrain. The downside of the fun turbo engine is that its mileage is not great for a smaller vehicle. Another downside is that you can really feel when you go over speed bumps and other obstacles in this car, due to a relatively soft suspension. Lastly, this is a personal choice, but we got the Neoteric yellow color, which my wife loves but is very divisive: we've actually had people glare at us on the highway, presumably about our loud choice in car colors. Overall, this is a very good modern vehicle that I would recommend to anyone in the market for a smaller compact SUV crossover type of vehicle with the latest technology. We're viewing it as our final gas-powered car. It has a few downsides but is a very good value for the money, with different trims for different budgets. The SEL is honestly probably the best deal, but we got the luxe one!

Love my 2024 Kona!
Incredible quality for this SUV / crossover! Lots of security tech, smooth comfortable ride and looks good inside and out! I find the 2.0 litres motor is more than enough for normal every day driving either city or highway. The only tick for me is clearing the snow under the wipers which you need to start vehicle to put wipers up! I also wish there was a hybrid version in Canada.

Great AWD for Arizona
This is my third Kona and the best so far. It has all of the safety features I need for driving around in a busy metro and the AWD for monsoon season. More roomy than previous versions of Kona and love the lifetime Bluelink with remote climate start for the really hot and cold days.

Premium features and driving experience for less $
I just picked my new SEL Kona up from our local Hyundai dealership, and I am very happy with the driving experience, its exterior sleek styling, and how roomy it is for a small car. In fact, I replaced my 2015 Toyota Prius Persona that had 165k on it, and I am so glad that I did, despite the Kona not being a hybrid. I echo other reviews in that some folks think it is an EV, but it is the amenities such as the upgraded navigation and added safety features from the Convenience Package that other competitors (sorry Toyota and Honda) end up charging $10-15k more in similar vehicles, such as the Rav-4 and the CR-V. Heated front seats, USB-C chargers, the Digital Key and back seats A/C vents, are just a few of the welcome amenities, in addition to the upgraded screen and standard Apple CarPlay. A lot of bang for the buck in a $29k sticker price. The navigation speaker on the front left driver panel is a little weird (I am used to the voice prompts on the Prius being heard throughout the stereo, but the Kona has it on one drive-in style speaker), but once you adjust the navigation voice-over volume, it is a minor flaw. Also, there is a learning curve with the adapted cruise control for someone like me coming off a Prius with simple cruise control, but I hope I can learn it and take advantage of the feature when in LA stop and go traffic. The auto hold is a nice feature as well, and ditto for the Lane Keeping Assist. I also like the camera views too (although the Limited only has the 360 deg camera view, as well as the self-parking feature). My trim does have the Digital Key and auto climate start, which I really love. Overall, I’m very happy with it so far, and I can’t wait to take the family to Disneyland in it this month! Hyundai gets the win this time for such an improved driving experience. Thanks to Nick N. and the whole team at Hyundai of San Bruno for helping me through the entire process, and getting me to take home the Kona SEL Convenience Pkg. at a great price!

DO NOT BUY A 2024 KONA
Loved my 2019 Kona and decided to upgrade to the new 2024. BIG MISTAKE! This car is LOADED with issues and Hyundai is completely trying to act like it’s “nothing”. 2 recalls (one in which they sent “save a life, bring your car in asap” postcards), but didn’t have the part to actually fix the recall. A completely dead battery with under 10K miles (this is a known issue for thousands of the 2024 model), loud break pad noises when reversing the vehicle, lots of rattling from rear… DEFINITELY not a good car. I really regret trading in my 2019. Will never buy a Huyndai again.
Smooth quiet and peppy ride!
This is our first small SUv and after driving all the competition mentioned we chose the 2024 Kona Limited AWD. AWD features independent rear suspension. FWD does not. It makes a world of difference in ride quality and handling. We drove both no regrets. It seems like a solid well built car. And the fit and finish is extremely good. Although it’s not the cheapest small SUV it sure suits our needs. My wife came out of a 2014 Lincoln MKS to this and she really likes. it is easy and fun to drive

Sluggish and Unfortunate
I usually don't leave reviews on cars that I have as rentals, but this one was especially bad. I don't think I've driven a modern car that was this slow. In normal driving mode, the cvt is so unresponsive, and even at full throttle, it feels that the car is just barely accelerating despite making a ton of noise. You would think a car this slow would at least be fuel efficient, nope. With a 60-40 split highways to city driving I barely cracked 25mpg. Really disappointing for a modern crossover. Then there's the ride quality, it handles bumps worse than my lowered Corvette which is impressively bad. It also has horrible handling, it started to lose grip on an on ramp at 30mph. The only pros is the infotainment is nice and it comes in cool colors. Worst rental car I've had and it's not close.

Nice redesign
Test drove the limited and it is a very nice vehicle, but at this top trim level lacks one important function and that is a power passenger seat, for the added 2k+ this should have power passenger seats at least 6 way since it is the higher trim or possibly a choice of Power moon roof or Power passenger seat. Like the extra room in the back seat.

Horrible Gas Mileage
I was given a 2024 Hyundai Kona as a loaner, which had only 6 miles when it was loaned to me. After three months, I can tell you that I will never buy this car. The gas mileage is the worst part of this car, and handling on the local roads makes too much noise. The navigation system needs to be updated because it is boring. The air conditioner at full blast can't handle the heat in Las Vegas, NV. The car is overpriced, in my opinion; I don't feel any comfort or good driving this vehicle. The cruise control fails to keep distance between cars, and the lane change features almost got me into several accidents. This has no value. The black trim attracts dust and dirt. Hard to keep it clean. The only good thing about the car is the exterior style, but the inside is horrible. I won't recommend this car to family or friends. Also, Hyundai is having a problem getting parts for its vehicles. My car has been in the dealer waiting for parts for eight months, which is why I'm driving it now. I had to fight to get a loaner; they had me walking without a car for a week.

Sweet sporty ride full of extras that i Love
Love this car so much. Build quality is amazing. Mine is the limited with turbo. Loads of option /heated/cooled seats steering wheel heater/dual climate a kick butt Bose system that my bmw couldn’t match. Fast off the block and handles well with an exceptionally smooth ride. Sunroof is large and sunshaded and operates smoothly. Can’t say enough good

Issue after Issue
Highly would not recommend this car. It is a nice little car when it is running right. Drives well, handles well, and good in the snow. But the problem arise when it comes to the Main Battery, Auxillary Battery, and the BCM. Along with the fact that Hyundai Service Department where I live refuses to listen to the issues. First it started with the Updates every 4 months completely killing the battery and Hyundai claiming it was just a Update Recall, so, completely dead battery 4 times in less than a year because of an Update. Next up, External Devices Slowly draining battery, not word on the cause of that. Next, now the car keeps shutting down, and going completely dark. All exterior lights, interior lights all go out, the radio goes out, windshield wipers go out. So, basically everything that you need to drive at night like I do, goes completely dark. Done research and it due to the Aux Battery located in the back passenger seat being drained, and the BCM failing because of the Aux Battery. But, Hyundai refuses to acknowledge me and actually check the Aux Battery to verify that it is the cause. 2024 Hyundai Kona Limited with 16k miles.

Opened Window
For the second time, I’ve had trouble with my right door window going down and not coming up. I will be taking it into the dealership hopefully to find out what the problem is and get it corrected. I have SEL Recommend holy other negative is suspension rough ride on bumpy roads.
Smooth ride
i like the smoothness of the ride. Didn't notice that the passenger seats were not electronic like the drivers side. I'm 5.0 and lift the seat to drive, however when I get in and out the car I have to lower the seat to duck my head to keep it from hitting the roof of the car. The back trunk doesn't have an electronic lift and it should have been added as a standard feature and it doesn't exist.
A Great SUV with plenty of space !
The Kona is roomy and drives smoothy
