A no frills car

2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 4A)

Bought this amidst much warning from all friends and ignorant people who tend to be scared about buying anything other than a Toyota or a Honda from the used cars. Reason why I bought this was how Elantras offered the same features and higher power than a corolla or a civic at a much lower price. After having driven this for more than 16,000 miles, I am very pleased with this car. I have not had any bad experiences and the maintenance has only been preventive maintenance like transmission oil change, brake rotor change etc.

Poor Man's Sports Car!

Five years ago I bought a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GT with only 37000 miles for $5995. It is burgundy with a spoiler, black trim, and a 5 speed manual transmission. The car has a lot of quick get up and go, and is sporty inside and out with it's gray leather seats. I average 30 mpg! I have driven this car everywhere, and it shows no sign of slowing down. The inside has a nice sounding AM/FM stereo with CD. It also has not one but two cigarette lighters for charging phones, computers, and tablets. Even has a nice little coke holder that pops out of the back seat. It will seat five, and the seats in back fold down for extra trunk space. Wheels are aluminum alloy. I wanted a Mustang when I bought this, but just couldn't find a good used one in my price range. The only issues I've had is that the clutch went out a week after I bought it. Dealer didn't cover it, but they should have. The clock is ok but nothing flashy. The car has two cup holders between the driver and front passenger. But you can’t shift if a cup is in the forward holder. After the clutch went out, no problems until radiator cracked at 108,000. BUT THE CAR DIDN'T OVERHEAT! It shut down the A/C to keep the temp down, and I was able to drive 30 miles on home with it as the temp gauge hovered just over medium. The engine has been extremely reliable. I changed the timing belt at 109,000 just to be safe. If you let it break your engine is toast. Just change it at 100,000 and you'll be fine. My mechanic said the belt could have gone longer. I think this car is good for at least 100,000 more miles, maybe more. If you find an older 2005 Elantra in good shape, buy it! You won't be sorry. My mechanic says they are more reliable than the new ones. So fun to drive!

I bought my car about a year ago with 114,000 miles on it. It drove like new. I never had a problem with it. While driving on the highway a deer jumped right out in front of me. I ended up hitting it. At 55 mph the car took the brunt of the impact. It felt as though I had hit a speed bump instead of a 6 point deer. When I got out of the car, and was able to see the damage done to it, I was amazed that no one was hurt. My beautiful car was totaled, but my family and I walked away without a scratch. I am now loyal Hyundai consumer.

1st hyundai purchased. Such a good car ended up buying two more hyundais 09 and 11 elantra! Bought this car after it was leased in Dec 05. Have this car over 5 years and never have been disappointed. Only service needed Made (Jul 04)is: Standard oil changes, replaced front brakes, first set of tires @ 30k and a new battery @30k The car has never broke down on us has been very reliable. MPG is good not great very heavy car for the size. We can get 24mpg out of it combined. Tons of features for a low price. For a economy car it is very spunky and has nice handling smooth on the road even rough roads. Pros: Great value, reliable Cons: AM Radio reception poor Awesome Car!

Initial quality was better than expected. Only disappointment was FM tuner did not work. I like the GT's leather interior and ride. I didn't like the Black Bodyside molding. It's a pain to hand wax around it.
