I test drove this car for about 100 miles (I know the salesperson) and it was great, the Toyota Corolla seat comfort sucked, and the leather in this thing was a little sticky, but other than that, it was great, I live in Sacramento and the A/C kept me nice and cool (so much for my current camry, new a/c system and STILL warm) I'm buying this car in November 2002, I fell in love with it. I love the Saab rear end look and the purple gauges.

We just got our Elantra GT hatchback recently, and so far it's been great!! It's fun to drive--peppy, responsive, and tight. It feels very sturdy, looks sweet, and has an extremely smooth and quiet ride. Going uphill with the automatic: it has a little lag before switching gears (common, I believe, in many automatics). We took it on a 600 mile road-trip two days after getting it, and it glided along the highway like a dream. Very comfortable in the back as well as the front. We're hoping the car stands the test of time but got the 10/100K extended warranty, just in case!

Hyundai is a very reliable brand, and the Elantra is a dream to drive, especially for those who cannot afford to purchase outside the compact class. Rides smooth as silk, and carries a 5- star safety rating. There's nothing you won't like about this car, and the purchasing deals and finance rates right now are out of this world!

I've had my GT for about 6 months now and I love it. It's a carbon blue 5 speed. It's quick, reliable, and fun to drive. The interior is both cool looking and comfortable as well as practical. It's great around town and on long highway trips (I do a lot of both). I average 31.0 mpg during the school year (long commute) and 30.6 mpg during the off seasons. My Elantra has more features than my friends 2002 Accord. Everyone who sees it is both suprised and impressed. I got it in the 4th of July for $15,500 out the door, but I know that some Elantra owners have gotten paid even less. This is the best car I've ever owned.

Bought the car pre-owned with 50,000 miles on it and it now has 88,000 and never had a problem. Had the car two years and constantly commute state to state. I can put $35 of gas in the tank (which is about 14 gallons if you really push it) and get around 450 miles to the tank. Drove from Philadelphia to Vermont without filling up and still had gas left over! Keep up on the oil changes, transmission flushes, and the tune ups and this car will never leave you stranded. Reliable, simple, and has good pickup.

Upgraded from Accent, also a good car. Drive and features are great, but car had flawed brake rotors, had to be re- turned, inexcusable on brand new car. Mileage should be better, but comfort and warranty can't be beat by ANYONE. My insurance was lowered from Accent to Elantra due to improved security and safety features. GET ONE!

I drive my Elantra 80 miles hwy everyday for the past year. It has had very few issues such as the O2 sensors failing and my parking break snapped. Relatively cheap fixes. What did concern me was when I hit my cow of a deer, was that the air bags didn't deploy when the whole front end of my car was smashed up. The repairs, covered by my collision insurance were extremely cheap, only coming out to be $1400 total for new headlights, grill, hood, bumper + cover fog lights, horn, paint job and tire. It has been a great car and has been a pretty good winter car.

Bought new in '03 and now has 117,000 on it and still runs and drives great. Have had zero problems other than the typical eating of tires and the head and tail light headaches. Has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Also, hit a deer at 55 mph and the front end held up incredibly well, just replaced the grill and hood after about a month and looks and runs great still.

After losing my 2000 Elantra to a wreck in which it was totaled; safety features worked like a charm. We walked away with just bruses. We looked at other cars in this class and none could be had with these features even for alot more money. I had 96000 miles on the 2k Elantra and had no problems at all and it still ran like new until stupid me ran off the road and front- ended a telephone pole, witch I snapped off.

I can't believe how much car we got for our money. We actually paid less for this car than we did our 1994 Nissan Sentra - 9 years ago (now has 200,000 miles on it). However, this car has leather interior, a moonroof, cd player, airconditioning, pw,pd,alarm ~ everything and an unbelievable warranty compared to Nissan. The car drives like a dream and I am looking forward to the next 200,000 miles!!!

I drove it from Florida to Pennsylvania, and was very comfortable. The car is very quiet and handles beautifully. Everyone who has ridden in the car is impressed. The warranty is excellent! Can't beat it anywhere. Great pickup!

I bought this car used in 2005 with only 13000 miles on it. Now in 2009 with over 100K miles it still drives almost like new! I had to replace the brakes once... but that's it. I live in New England and this car has made it up hills in a foot of snow that I've seen honda CRVs struggling in. This car was an awesome investment and I am most definitely going to be getting another elantra when I get a new car and I'm secretly jealous of whoever gets my old used one!

There usually is a catch to unbelievably low sticker prices. Not this time. Although I expected the standard features and read the good reviews here before buying, I was pleasantly suprised by the steering and shock absorbsion. Even with the auto transmission, the car climbs very steep hills easily. More suprising was that it handles rough roads more comfortably than my American make (2001) minivan. Handles the curves very well and has good acceleration.

New Generation Hyundai Try it!

Great car. New generation Hyundais have nothing to envy the other manufacturers considering the low price tag it and the lots of standard features you get. Good grip, handling, powerfull engine. Gearbox is a bit long. Air conditioner punishes performance. Not very confortable front seats. Ugly exhaust pipe, average fuel economy. Anyway, people who say it´s better buying an old japanese instead of a new korean are people who haven´t driven the new Elantra. Try before you buy I and think you´ll end up liking this car as much as your Neon or Civic, for a lot money less. This car is definetly a serious competitor for the japanese and europeans when choosing a new car.

The Elantra Gt gave me what I wanted. Looks, utility ( thats why I chose the GT hatchback) dependability and price. In 76000+ miles the only things that have gone wrong are 3 low beam headlights bulbs, 1 battery, the thermostat and just recently the A/C compressor. The brake pads show little wear at this time. I was rear-ended by an 18 wheeler and took such a hit that the motor mounts broke. After the repair you would never know that the car was ever hit. Still rides and handles great. Excellent brakes; headlights are strong. All in all it has been a very good car in every respect. I will probably replace it with another Hyundai one day, if it ever wears out.

Purchased for $6900 with 35k miles on it. Good condition. Manual. Handled well, peppy for an economy car. I have only had the following problems: A leaking radiator hose Suspension squeaks and creaks I get regular oil changes, replaced the timing belt at 90k miles and had it tuned up, and have replaced the tires once. Very low maintenance costs overall. At this point, the performance is suffering a little (diminished torque at high rpms), but I've driven this car hard for about 70k miles now. Still extremely reliable, and I wouldn't think twice about driving it cross country. I had a '99 Elantra before, and my friend is still driving it in San Diego at over 160k miles.

I bought this car in 06 with only 15k miles on it so it was like brand new. I bought it because of the reputation of reliability, quality and gas mileage. But right at 50,000 miles in the middle of a road trip, my radiator suddenly cracked without warning and all of my coolant leaked out on the spot and my engine overheated. It all happened within 60 seconds at a stop light. I ended up stranded for 4 full days. Finally the dealership discovered the cracked radiator. No one can explain why that happened. I have kept impeccable care of the car. In fact I checked my coolant levels etc before I left on the trip. All was fine. It cost me over $1000 and now I am nervous to go on a trip!

For all wanting a comfortable yet sporty commuter car I'd have to recommend this latest version of Hyundais Elantra. With a 5 speed manual transmission, 135 hp 4 cylinder and a roomy interior with well thought out amenities, there's not another car like it for the price. I've actually begun to enjoy the 150 mile round trip to work up and down the jersey turnpike since I've gotten behind the wheel. Gas mileage is a little iffy at 32 mpg. The interior noise is kept to minimum even when cruising 70. All things considered, the price not being the least, there's not a better value out there.........

We bought the Elantra VE because it handled well on a test drive and we seemed to be getting more for our money, however over the past five years we have spent $8000 in maintenance and repairs. The key fobs wore out in less than two years rendering the alarm system useless. Every problem has been solved on the second visit, not on the first - so we have paid twice to have each problem fixed. The brakes always squeal, the rubber door seals eroded away in less than a year and the fuel system has been cleaned twice. We may have paid less for the Elantra than other 4-Door sedans, but we spent it on repairs over the past 5 years. Our advice - buy North American and pay the extra 5- 8 K up front.

Looking for a fun commuter I was all set to buy a Civic until I found that it didn't offer leather or traction control or a $14K price tag. Fuel pump went 1st mo which was replaced by dealer same day. Oil change every 3K, replaced brakes once at 60K and now have 120K on orig clutch. 30-32mpg combined city/hwy. Upgrades include Tiburon rear anti sway bar and 17" wheels which make it very fun in the twisties. Don't try this at home but is very stable at 105mph. Recently have also replaced headlights every 6mo and found my first rust spot behind rear wheel. Excellent in the snow with winter tires. I, too, barely get NYC AM stations from 60 mi away. Very happy with this ride.

If you find an equally equipped competitor, chances are that they will be 3-4 thousand dollars more expensive. For this price, which is around 14,000 dollars, you get leather seats, cd player, moonroof, keyless entry, etc. There is no better car than this if you are looking for something affordable, sporty, and fun to drive. Also plenty of cargo space. Just an overall great car!

This car is the best value in its class. After many months of shopping around and after test-driving the competitors, (civic, focus svt, protege 5, cavelier ls, etc.) the Hyundai GT was best in terms of value, OPTIONS, and fun! Speaking of options, this car comes standard with just about everything but a driver! Speaking of fun, taking the above-mentioned competition from a stoplight is easy. Press hard on the acceleration from a stop and you will be pleasently suprised. No racecar, but again, good for the dollar. Top off all of that with the extended warrenty and you've got one great package.

Hyundai has traditionally cornered the cost-conscious consumer, but now with this type of product they can lure the informed consumer. Compare it with the Japanese sedans in this class. Check the fit and finish, the build quality. Question others when they ridicule Hyundai, because they don't know. This is the second best overall engine in the class. The gearbox brings no complaints. There is elite ride quality. The features list is staggering, especially at the price. Compare. . .

Buying my 2002 Elantra was the best dicision I could have made! For a small car, you cannot compare the ride comfort, standard features, warranty and price to any other foreign small car. When I searched for my "perfect" new automobile I never would have thought Hyundai...The warranty attracted me, I drove one and was so impressed I wrote my check the moment my test drive was over! I have driven over 26,000 miles in the 9 months I have owned the Elantra and not once has it skipped a beat~! AND you cannot beat the warranty!

It's been a joy to own and drive. The things you get for the price is hard to believe, even 4 years later. The hatchback styling is very Saabish and practical. The trunk is large (fits four tires perfectly) and with the seats folded, it's huge (10+ tires, full size desk, etc). The space, ride and quietness surprises everyone. Although the stock handling doesn't live up to the GT emblem, a Tiburon rear sway bar takes minutes to swap in. Reliability has been better than I expected - about one trip per year to the dealership and it's never left me stranded.

Great car for a great price! I wanted a work/commuter car that's comfortable and gets decent gas mileage without shelling out a lot of money. Elantra GLS is all that and more. Smooth ride, nice engine and smooth shifting automatic, decent handling, spacious, average 28 to 29 mpg. Leather, sunroof, aluminum wheels, front/side air bags, heated mirrors! And the bonus is the GT hatchback stands out in the crowd. I wonder why anyone would pay $2000 - $3000 more for a corolla/civic. It's giving my 92 Protege LX a run for my best buy ever.

What a great little car. I drive this car 130 miles a day minimum. I have close to 50k on it in less than a year and a half and haven't had so much as a hick-up. At 65 mph it still has passing gear left. I find it comfortable during my daily drive and certainly enough power. This same car with all the options in a Toyota or Honda would have cost me another $3000 easily.

It now has 105,000 miles and has not needed any major repairs and still running great! I'm looking to get a new vehicle and after the experience with this one, I'm thinking it will be another Hyundai. My husband bought a 2001 Ford Taurus in 2003, when I got my Hyundai and has had all types of problems with it.

Car was purchased new. It can handle quite a lot: I had several huge people in my elentra when I struck the mother of all potholes traveling at a high rate of speed on the God forsaken streets of Brooklyn NY, I really thought at the very least there should have been casualties but to my amazement the car was not affected in any way. Another time my father had a huge accident drunk driving accident, it cost so many thousands to piece the car together everyone suggested the car should be scrapped yet the insurance carrier insisted it be repaired. To my amazement the car still rides well after massive cross- your finger type of repairs.

I bought this car for my wife and now I borrow the car whenever I get a chance because it is so fun to drive! This car is a breath of fresh air compared to all the other "H" cars out on the road -- and what a deal. The other reviews have said this, but where else can you get Auto Trans, Leather Seats, Moonroof, AM/FM-CD, a peppy little engine and a genuinely COOL exterior styling for $14,300 (bought it through CarsDirect.com). PLUS the 60,000 warranty! These guys are picking up where Honda and Toyota left off, and they can't rest on their laurels -- get one before the world figures it out and the price goes up.

My wife and I have wanted an Elantra for four years, we finally bought a new 2003. It has a silky smooth 5 speed manual with 16 valve DOHC 2.0 engine, excellent comfort and ride. It replaces 1994 Hyundai Excel with 191,000 miles as the main car. I will be buying a replacement engine for the 1994. We love those Hyundai's, reliable, dependable and inexpensive to keep.

I bought this car without a trade in and got out the door (including taxes, tags, ect...) for 13988.98. It is the 5-speed with a moonroof, and I love it. Corolla was 2k more and had less options, same with the civic. You just can't beat the value. Not to even mention the industry leading warranty.
