With dealer incentives, I was able to get an excellent deal on this base model Elantra GT which was already a good value before the incentives. I only have 100 miles on it so far, so this is more of a first impressions review, and the first thing I note is that I really liked the exterior styling. The Windy Sea Blue is really beautiful in the sunlight. On closer inspection, the fit and finish quality is outstanding. It's a very 'solid' car. Shut a door, and there is a reassuring thud of solidity. Interior controls are a bit busy. Still trying to figure things out, but the voice recognition is very helpful. 29.5mpg so far, but it's mostly in-town driving. Fun car to drive, and I'm happy! UPDATE after 2 years and 15000 miles: Still loving this car! In mixed driving, I'm now getting around 31.5 mpg. Bluetooth functionality has been excellent and reliable paired w/ my Android phone. I'm able to get a bicycle in the back with the seats down which is nice. I do wish the climate control labels were larger; I can't make them out without my reading glasses on, but I'm aware of where things are now. I haven't used the steering controls options (sport/normal/comfort) as much as I thought I would. I just leave it on normal. Back seat area is quite comfortable and spacious for passengers. I've only done normal maintenance on the car, and all is good. UPDATE after 4 years and 26,000 miles: Still a great car. No problems. Gas mileage has actually now improved to 32.5 or more. (On one long drive on an interstate, I got 38mpg for the tankful.) The only maintenance has been oil changes and tire rotations. UPDATE: After 6+ years and 43,000 miles: Still no problems beyond regular maintenance and a brake job. Still enjoying the vehicle. UPDATE 2/2022: 49k miles and still no problems. All good! UPDATE 2/2023 54k and all good! Great car UPDATE 2/2024 New tires and an alignment, but all still great

First off, I wanted to dislike this car, it wasn't my first choice for a new car. The deal that I was offered was too good to pass up so I took it. Needless to say, over time this car has really grown on us. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of get-up-and-go for a compact, 173hp, one of the highest in this class especially for the price. Paired with being lightweight = nimble & quick. Unlike the slow, boring Elantra sedan. I recently read Hyundai uses a special metal that's safer yet more lightweight than the traditional which helps with performance & MPGs. Ride comfort is good compared to others in this class, though it can get a little drifty on certain surfaces due to being lightweight. Took a while to get my seating position exact but seats are very comfortable, nice bolstering, and one thing I love is the interior materials, easy to clean, good quality and should hold up well long-term. Ergonomics are excellent in the Elantra GT, as are the quality of materials. After driving a luxury car as my previous vehicle, I am impressed with the fit and finish of this Hyundai. It has great cargo space, especially with the seats down, and the styling on the outside is unique as opposed to the sedan version. The GT has a lot of standard features, fog lights, heated seats etc...Plus the warranty can't be beat. The only complaint I have on the vehicle is that it could use a little better speakers, they're not awful by any means though and the key Fob is really cheap, looks like it's from 1990, but those really are the only complaints. If you are considering cars like the Focus hatchback,Mazda 3 hatchback, Forte 5, VW Golf etc...I think for the $$ Hyundail Elantra GT is worth a look, you definitely get a lot of bang for your your back. I've driven each of the cars I listed and none were so good as to pass up the Elantra GT, especially for the price! Plus, you don't see the GT all over the streets, and I kind of like having something a little more rare.

Worst car ever had!! Did not even last for the 5 year financing. Motor shot after 4 & half years. Manufacture said they could do nothing for me. I changed the oil religiously every 5k miles. Talked to a mechanic,,,,said he knew someone with the same problem. Another mechanic called them trash cars. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI. The manufacture won't stand behind them. There is even recalls on motors! Ended up buying a Toyota,,,should have done that in the first place. was treated like I didn't know anything. Been working on my own car for 40 years. Still will never buy another Hyundai!

This car was a great compact 5 door hatchback. For the 3 years we had it, it NEVER gave us ANY trouble at all! Takes on snow like it's nothing. Adequately quiet and smooth ride. Great sound system, with standard USB and auxiliary jacks. It has a neat cooled glove box compartment. Decent gas mileage. Great cargo space, considering the size of the vehicle. The front seats have modest bolsters that hold you in during sharp turns. The only complaints are ease of certain maintenance (e.g. oil changes), no automatic climate control, and a small backseat (however, it's bigger than say, a Fiesta). Would buy one again.

Faulty Engine

Bought this car in 2018 with 60k miles on it. Had all the extras - bluetooth, sunroof, leather, navigation, etc. Really enjoyed it for what it was: small & economical. Lowest car I have ever driven, so I was surprised when I blew a tire on a pothole, but I guess that comes with this type of car. Changed the oil and kept with regular maintenance then one day heard a slight knocking from the engine. By the time I made it to my destination it was loud (like you could hear it across the parking lot). Apparently there is a "known" problem that causes metal to enter the oil/pistons, ultimately rendering the engine useless. Though the car is under 100k miles, I am not the original owner so it is not covered under warranty. It has also not been recalled. Got a quote for $3k-$4k replacement, then waited a month so I could save for it. Now there are no available engines because there is such a demand. Now it's just a nice looking driveway ornament. This may not be every experience, but I know it's not singular.
