Smooth quiet ride with plenty of pep
I like the Honda sensing feature, which is standard in the 2019 models. The side mirror interior lights are much nicer than the other manufacturer exterior orange lights. The 280 HP with the 6-speed transmissions has good smooth acceleration. Fits 8 people reasonably comfortable, wish they had an option for back bucket seats (7 seat) - but no such luck. The 2019 has mostly cosmetic changes, more significate are the LED headlights and larger rear center antenna - for FM/satellite reception. The 2019 is basically the same price at the 2017 models with the same features, so that is a pretty good deal.

Best SUV, bar none.
I don't even know where to begin describing the perfection of this vehicle in both form and function. Ergonomics from the driver’s position are perfect, getting used to locations and operation of buttons a breeze. Comfort in all 3 rows is excellent and I'm a 6'-2" guy. Headroom for my height is not an issue in any position. I can spend a short trip in the 3rd row, the kids have no issues whatsoever. Reasonable space remains behind the 3rd row for a few suitcases and a stack of blankets and pillows and things you can squash into free space, particularly if you remove the floor panel and adjust it to its recessed position. With the 3rd row folded down the cargo volume is similar to most minivans. Look and feel: This vehicle in my opinion is a good looking broad shouldered vehicle with decent ground clearance that adds to its rugged yet refined look. It’s not so high as to make ingress or egress difficult. The front row seats are firm and contoured yet not so much so that they are uncomfortable. There is enough give to conform to any body shape and provide good comfort. The EX-L 2nd row one-touch seats make 3rd row access easy. Second row has a recline feature that adds to overall comfort. Headrests are located in all seating positions. Safety Features: The standard safety features are seamlessly integrated into the driving experience. Cross traffic alert is great for parking lots, adaptive cruise control makes highway driving less stressful as the vehicle manages safe distance and speed as traffic adjusts ahead of the vehicle. The Lane Keep Assist and Road Departure may startle the driver at first as the steering wheel may shake as a warning to the driver or the vehicle will push back if you move across the road lines with the LKAS enabled. These features can be enabled or disabled by the driver. All in all these are great features and in time any driver will come to appreciate them. Comfort and convenience: The adjustable driver’s seat has enough axis adjustments that anyone can find a comfortable position along with the aid of the tilt and telescoping steering wheel. The passenger seat has fewer adjustments but is adequate. Conveniently located storage locations around the vehicle allow for umbrellas, papers, cups, and other items to be stored near the driver and passengers. The center console is deep and cavernous and has an adjustable change tray. This space could stand to have a few more options for managing the space, but that’s a minor point. Within are USB charging ports as well as on the main console. Other chimes and warning indicators use a low volume pleasant sound such as lights left on or when locking the vehicle. This is welcome versus vehicles which beep the horn when locking. Visibility all around is good. The backup camera aids in visibility to the rear when backing up. Drivability: The Pilot has a default driving mode and a selectable economy driving mode from a button on the dashboard. The default mode feels like most automobiles with crisp quick acceleration and shift points. Fuel economy in this mode seems to come in slightly under the advertised city MPG but not by much. In economy mode the vehicle hits or exceeds MPG ratings but the driving experience IMO is sluggish, though my wife didn’t seem to notice or mind. Road feel is firm without being harsh. This is far superior to the old body on frame SUVs of days past. Steering feel is light and responsive without being over tight. The feel is more of a rear drive or AWD vehicle than biased toward the front. While test driving other SUVs they seemed to have a heavy front wheel drive feel, where the Pilot is light and crisp and responsive. City driving and highway driving are equally enjoyable. Recommendations: For a daily driver or family hauler this vehicle is an excellent choice with zero regrets. It is as at home at work, a campground, golf course, beach or campground. Cautions: Drive through car washes with guide rails will strike the allow wheels and scuff or gouge the finish.

Honda Pilot LX Great Value SUV
The 2019 Pilot LX is the lowest priced Pilot in Honda’s showroom. It has all most people need and some extras that people want. The great standard safety systems and adaptive cruise control work pretty good and the automatic emergency braking saved my bacon when I failed to see a car locking it’s brakes on the freeway. The LX has plenty of power and a smooth controlled ride. The gas mileage is good for a fairly big CUV/SUV. It has great climate controls that are easy to use and all three rows have air vents. It has a big roll top bin with great storage in between the front seats and a smallish lighted glovebox. The front seats adjust manually with a ratchet type plastic lever. The recline is adjustable with many positions using the side lever. All adjustments are very easy and work well. All seats fold easily with a lift up plastic lever. This includes the second and third row seats. (The Pilot LX does not have the one touch button. It has an easy to use one lift up lever.) The storage is fantastic with plenty of room for people and stuff. The base radio with standard Bluetooth works great and it sounds super as well. There is no XM radio, but I play it from my phone via Bluetooth. The interior lighting is not the greatest, but for a few bucks, change the bulbs to LED and you’ll light up the interior. The standard Bridgestone tires are okay, and the interior and exterior are well built. I highly recommend this CUV/SUV over other models from VW and Subaru. The Pilot LX is a great choice for families on a budget that want the room and comfort that the LX provides without spending $48,000 for the Honda Pilot Elite.

1 month in
1 month in and we are loving the new pilot. The cosmetic upgrades on the 2019 Touring really make it pop including the new taillights, new bumper design, the new rims which look nicer in person than online, and the chrome accents. The ride is comfortable. The features are very nice, just make sure to take some time and read through the owners manual in order to figure it all out. The trunk space is big enough for anything we need when you put the third row down. The LED headlights are fantastic. My wife always had trouble driving at night, but not anymore with the pilot as the LEDs light up the road very well. Android auto was a bit of a pain it keeps trying to open on our phones even when we do not want to use it so we ended up disabling it. The touchless liftgate takes some getting use to, but it works well once you figure it out. Overall the Pilot touring has been a fantastic vehicle for our family. The only things we added to it were splash guards and body side molding. My biggest gripe is that my wife wants to drive everywhere now so I have to get accustomed to being a passenger...

Our third Pilot
After months of research we decided to forego the 2018's tempting price discounts and picked up a 2019 EXL instead. Looked around until we found a dealer willing to deal and got the price we wanted. This is our third Pilot, we had a 2008 EXL which was traded after a wreck, bought a 2012 EXL to replace it and now the 2019 EXL. The 2019 is a nice car but it lacks the solid feel of the old 2008. The 2019 rides very quiet on good pavement, course pavement makes some body parts resonate, producing very annoying sounds, the rear suspension is another negative, small road imperfections, cracks and transitions produce a loud thump (feels like the compliance bushings are either too hard or not thick enough) which reverberates over the cabin. The front suspension works really well. Wind noise is low compared to previous models and other brands we considered. The interior is very spacious and is made with good quality materials. Fit and finish inside and out is no different than the Audi Q7 we tested (which was twice the price), with the Q7 having more felt in the cargo area and more sound insulation and other high end features (which we could have had if we had chosen the Elite model). The new Pilot is extremely efficient, best MPG was 31 (verified, the computer is only off by half a MPG), worse MPG has been 24. Lastly, we decided to purchase the Pilot because the first two that we owned were extremely reliable (zero shop visits), efficient and comfortable; the price was on target and the dealership employees are very competent and customer oriented. Overall the Honda offers a better balance of value, efficiency and reliability over the other brands we tested. We have been driving the 2019 Pilot now for slightly over a year. So far zero problems. Ride has improved a bit, still quiet and very comfortable inside. This past summer with all the grand kids visiting we could carry them around and their huge amount of paraphernalia quite easily, plenty of USBs too !!! Highway fuel economy (at 70 to 75 MPH) is consistently at 29 to 31 MPG, much better then the previous Pilots we have owned. Honda has made it really easy to make system updates, you can go by the dealership anytime (Sundays is easy) get next to the building in rage of their WIFI and the updates quickly fly in no problem, or you can do it over the air at home if you like (if your own WIFI) is strong enough. We enjoy using the new version of Android auto, it has many more apps and options and especially the navigation app with step by step, turn by turn and voice input features; its easy, accurate and the screen is vivid. We enjoy our Pilot and its dependability and its comfort and on and on....
Great Improvements for 2019
As a previous owner of a 2016 Pilot I am going to focus on my first impressions of the mid-cycle refresh of the 2019 Pilot, Touring model. Let’s start with the transmission: My 2016 9-speed transmission was jerky at low speeds which was slightly improved when I added a transmission cooler for towing. I’m not sure what caused the improvement but it most likely had something to do with a software update. Enter the 2019 9-speed transmission; it seems that Honda has finally been able to tame the German made option as all the jerky movements seemed to have disappeared. I haven’t done any towing yet but my 2016 model performed flawlessly pulling a 2500 lb. boat up and down our Missouri hills. Now for the Sensing Suite: I’m not sure what minor changes Honda has made but the not ready for prime-time Sensing feature seems to have little better responsiveness especially with the adaptive cruise control, which may have to do with the improved transmission. Honda has also added blind spot monitoring but they did remove the camera on the right mirror; I’ve gotten used to that camera and wished they would have left it there. In 2016 Honda forgot to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (which they added in 2017). This time they forgot to add remote start with HondaLink. They have it on the Odyssey so why not the Pilot? Honestly, I don’t see any value paying for a HondaLink subscription if remote start isn’t included. The radio head unit, which now has a volume knob, is the same one that’s in the Odyssey, it can now be updated over Wi-Fi so you no longer have to use a USB drive. Appearance is subjective but I kinda like the new grille and the addition of the chrome strip around the bottom of the doors but other than that it pretty well looks the same. The plastic strip under the front and rear bumper has been changed to a silverish color to make them look like skid-plates but once again that’s a subjective look. The ride also seems to be a bit smoother and somewhat quitter. Hands Free power tailgate has also been added which I guess will be useful if I have my hands full. Some new graphics have been added to the instrument panel as well. The buttons on the steering wheel have been moved around so you will have to get used to that if you move up to a new Pilot. Another nifty feature that’s been added is Auto High Beam Headlights, nice feature but they are a little too sensitive and change back and forth too often.

Radio and entertainment issues
I purchased the 2019 elite pilot after being a previous Accord owner for the past 13 years. This elite Pilot has given me the biggest headache of any vehicle I’ve ever owned. Basically the radio and any type of entertainment will cut off and suddenly stop working. The radio, the usb, the Bluetooth, the apple/android play, the dvd audio WILL NOT WORK. It just gives you an error message that says “audio not available”. I have taken it to the dealership where they say it needs a “hard reset” but this problem still continues to happen. It’s very frustrating and there’s nothing being done that solves this problem. So basically I’m stuck with a brand new 50k defective vehicle. Nice job Honda.
The car's infotainment system prone to failure
As you can find out by a google search, the 2019 Honda's infotainment system has a defect in a lot of its vehicles. It doesn't just affect Apple Carplay - it renders bluetooth, USB audio, AM/FM radio, and even the backup camera nonoperational. It does not refresh and continue working. It continues to be nonoperational even after you turn the car off. You can leave it off for hours - it will still not be operational. The only thing I was able to get to work again was the backup camera. Honda dealerships also do not have staff that can fix the problem. I've had my car for about 2 months, and it's been in the dealership for 4 days. The service manager cannot fix the car until he hears back from a technician at Honda Corporate. They know about this problem, and they continue to sell cars with this defect. There are class action lawsuits against Honda for this problem already. Do not buy this car.

Awesome Pilot EX-L
I’m very happy with my Pilot. The best attribute is a very smooth ride! Although the headlights could be brighter they are adequate. The seats are VERY comfortable. Just a top notch car. Support overall.

Infotainment problems - class action suit
Steering wheel controls freeze up and error message on display occurred 9 days after buying car. I have been having problems with controls freezing up and have getting error messages ever since. The dealership changed the infotainment system but problems were not fixed. Come to find out, Honda was aware of these problems and is not fixing. If this has been happening to you, you are not alone and more importantly it is not normal. There is a class action suit that you should be aware of if you are having these problems. [HTML removed]
Half the price of a Q7
I have been a dedicated Audi owner for 20 years. The family has owned a TT, A4, A3, S4, and I have an A8 in the garage now. I love Audi's. I knew a Q7 was in my future so I did a thorough evaluation including multiple Q7 test drives. The Q7 is a great SUV. However, my son suggested driving the updated 2019 Pilot. I had some extra time on my hands so I obliged my curiosity. The 2019 Pilot test drive resulted in an instant sale. The Elite version has many of the same features of the high end Q7. Only it costs $30K less. I could not believe the quality, refinement, fit/finish, and features of the 2019 Pilot. We traded in my wife's loaded Lexus RX and feel we have significantly upgraded from that vehicle. I have owned the Pilot for one week and I still can't believe the incredible value this vehicle represents. The technology is state of the art and the safety features are as impressive as they are reassuring. This roomy vehicle is powerful, fun to drive, and comfortable as heck. I am 6'3" and my wife is 5'3" and we both fit. I look forward to the long rides ahead visiting grandkids and national parks. The LED lights, storage, intuitive layout, and third row are better than the Q7. Perfection would be placing the Q7 drivers seat in the Pilot. Surprisingly the Q7 central console and other storage spaces were miniscule. The Q7 jack was in a bag behind the third row with no place to stow it. Replacement of four Q7 run flat tires will cost $1600 after 25,000 miles. I am reassured by Honda's legendary quality and technology. I don't feel that I had to compromise in selecting the Pilot over the Q7. The value is obvious.

Major problems Honda did it very wrong!
2nd gear transmission shift feels like a jolt most of the time. Rear entertainment system/computer freezes up in general and you can do anything until the vehicle shuts off. Buttons on steering wheel don’t work 100% of the time. Rear Headphones are terrible quality. There’s more things wrong I just can’t remember all the little things it’s really frustrating when you buy a $40,000 vehicle and it feels like a nightmare. I wouldn’t buy this car again and wish I could go back and not go with this garbage. I feel like I’m stuck with it as torture now for blindly and naively trusting Honda’s long standing quality legacy.
Great car and great ride but ....
We traded in a 2007 Odyssey with over 200,000 miles for a 2019 Pilot EX-L. We love the drive, the interior space, the tech but we're very disappointed by the sloppy installation of the rear cargo door. Similar to what two other reviewers experienced the spacing between the cargo door and the bumper varies by 1/4" going from one side to the other and therefore sticks out a bit. Where is Honda's quality control? 12/4/2021 Update Honda is unwilling to correct the misaligned rear cargo door. Having been a loyal customer for years I would hesitate buying another Honda in the future.

Updated Ride
I needed to upgrade my 2007 Honda Odyssey, so I chose the 2019 Honda Pilot after two months of research and test driving several vehicles. After ownership of my Pilot, I absolutely love it. The vehicle has so many safety and tech features. Some of my favorites are the blind spot indicator, distance pacing cruise control, satellite radio/speakers, LED lights, and brake alerts. The storage is also good. With one of the third row seats down, I was able to fit three bags, a double stroller, and two folded sports chairs. I chose the EX because I felt it was the best value. I love it and hope to keep it for a very long time.

2019 Pilot - Solid Performance/Annoying Sensing Sy
We bought a Pilot because it handled and performed much better than the Highlander or the Ascent and have not been disappointed in its performance. However, the Honda Sensing System is very annoying when driving on two lane roads so we've shut off the LKAS and RDMS. Also the CBMS will come on when encountering another vehicle coming towards you on tight curves when there is no collision imminent. The cross traffic alert and the BLS seem to work pretty well. One other annoying item is that a "Caution" screen comes up on the center display every time you start the car. I don't need to see this warning anymore but have not found a way to disable it. The bottom line is the Pilot is a decent SUV but the safety sensing technology is a work in progress.

Unpleasant surprise...
This is my 6th Honda.... I would never think that the exterior fit quality would get so low! I accepted delivery after work hours and happily drove home to find out the following morning that two doors are not aligned with the body lines, the tailgate is sticking out while being closed, and other trim/panel visible misalignment all over the car. When I went to the Honda body shop , I was advised that the attempt to fix the issues would probably result in other problems such as wind noise, rattling, etc. I'm weighing my options on the next steps in resolution and believe that Honda should step up their QC process . **** 07/16/19 Update - Dealer addressed major misalignments... that's ok. - AWD Problem warning light came arount 8.7k. That was (hopefully) fixed by re-connecting wire harnesses (took two visits to the dealer to diagnose... ) - VSA warning light came around 9k once .... was not able to replicate - Numerous false positives for collision avoidance system.. that's annoying.. - Warped front rotors around 7k due to collision avoidance false positive breaks ....addressed by dealer - Idle stop is ok, when works.... Used internet forums reset procedure a few times.. - Transmission will not up shift and 'sticks' in lower gear under some conditions. I'm still trying to figure out the pattern - GPS console freeze on occasion (totally not responding) during the drive...had to stop at the service area to re-start the car... Update: 23k- ongoing issues: weak brakes, non functional wifi phone charger, minor wind noise. Engine and transmission are excellent Update: 45k- stalled on the highway after idle stop engaging. Had to pay the dealer to replace the battery. Consistent otherwise.

Honda quality on decline
We got a brand new 2019 Honda EX-L and took possession from the dealership in Round Rock, Texas in the evening when already night started coming down. Went home and Park car in garage. a few days later back from vacation, we noticed that cargo door was not aligned and rear bumper spacing with cargo door was way off. Rear bumper on the left side there’s more than a 1/4” more spacing than at the right side and cargo door corner on the right side is protruding at least 1/4”. Really ugly to see. We went back to dealer and they send us to service department. Service department supervisor told us that in order to fix that, they will have to take all interior out and there is no guarantee that they will be able to fix it. We went back to dealer and even though sale manager told us he will exchange our car, his boss told us no way. We did not have received car registration yet. That boss told us there’s nothing that can be done because all car a made now with robots and all other car are same. So, sad side of the story is we paid a little over 36k for a car which has defect. We have to drive a car which we don’t like and even hate it now. Very sad, Honda. I have a 2013 Honda Pilot touring and it’s still perfect. Honda is really loosing it’s reputation and it look like third world car manufacturer. So buyers be aware. I don’t think I will buy again car from Honda, not only that but I will try to get rid off this one as soon as I can and shop for something else. Very disappointed!!!

Great Car
I've owned the vehicle for 8,000 miles now and its been a blast. Tons of room for the kids, great ride, and excellent gas mileage. No issues whatsoever. The 9 speed transmission is the smoothest I've ever driven besides a CVT. Update 2/5/20: still going strong. Not one issue. Impressed with the car overall and my kids love all the room. Avg mpg has been 20.4 in mostly city driving and it drives great in snow. 8/6/20 Still great no issues. 2/10/21 Because of the pandemic it hasn’t been driven much. Roughly 14k miles on her now but still running great. Absolute beast in the snow, sand mode is unstoppable. Much better awd system than any other vehicle I’ve owned. 8/16/21 Almost 17k miles. No complaints 8/16/22 25k miles. No issues whatsoever 2/15/23 29k miles. Still running great - no issues 8/16/23 33k miles. No issues. Two recalls for wiring and software but I’ve never had a problem before or after them.

Worst Vehicle Purchase Decision Ever!!!
Bought the Touring AWD model in May. Within the first three weeks of ownership, my wife started to experience intermittent dropout in the hands free connection to the point that she discontinued its use. Before even making the first payment on the vehicle, started to experience crackling and popping sounds from the speakers that progressively became worse over time to the point where the infotainment system in the vehicle became useless. Furthermore, the electronic odometer display started to black out as well rendering the car unsafe to drive given that she had no way of knowing how fast she would be going. After several unsuccessful visits to the dealership with no fix for the problem, talking to Honda corporate directly about the problem, and the dealership and Honda corporate going back and forth concerning a course of action on how to fix the problem, the car has now spent the last 29 days at the dealership being “repaired”. Got the last update from Honda corporate today stating that the issue with the vehicle is being “worked”. And that we hopefully be getting it back sometime in the next week or so. I have been a loyal Honda customer for many years and never had problems like this. This is what happens when quality and customer satisfaction is overlooked because a mega company placed its personal interests over the safety and security of the consumer who is the end user!!!! There is a class action lawsuit currently against Honda for this very same issue. Will be exercising my lemon law rights for this bad purchase decision. Shame on you Honda!!!

Watch for body parts fit and alignment
As many complaint, you have to inspect your Pilot before accepting the delivery. I did not check my Pilot during purchase. After getting home I have noticed tail gate is not alighted and rear bumper was not attached to the body in one spot causing having not even space line.

2019 Honda Pilot Squeaky A/C Expansion Valve
I bought by 2019 Honda Touring end of April. Shortly after driving the car I noticed a squeak in engine compartment when I let up on gas or brakes applied. Mileage was less than 1,600. I took it into the Dealer in June. Dealer said it was transmission (FIRST REPAIR ATTEMPT) and ordered new transmission. Early July brought in the car to have transmission replaced. Honda Technical Rep said it wasn’t the transmission. Recommended to replace engine mounts (SECOND REPAIR ATTEMPT). Engine mounts were replaced. Squeak was still present. After extensive test drive, Honda said it was from A/C and Honda Tech said to perform deep A/C vacuum/drying (THIRD REPAIR ATTEMPT). After A/C vacuum/drying the squeak was still there. Honda Tech then said it was A/C expansion valve. But, Honda refused to replace the valve. They stated it “IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE”. I was told by Dealer that three other customers had complained about same squeak and they also found a new car on lot with same issue. In July I contacted Honda Customer Care. In August Honda Customer Care told me my claim was denied and that the squeak in the engine – A/C - was a normal characteristic. Customer Care Rep indicated that they were handling other customer complainants with the same issue. My complaint was closed. Since when is a squeak in a brand-new car a normal characteristic? If Honda really thought it was a normal characteristic why did they continue to try to fix my car. It wasn’t until they couldn’t fix it after three attempts and Honda refused to replace the A/C expansion valve that they decided it was a normal characteristic. I am assuming not all 2019 Honda Pilot Touring cars have this issue. It is clear that many 2019 Honda Pilots have this noise issue that Honda refuses to acknowledge as a problem to the customer. What fixes this problem? Any suggestions?

Not safe
Honda quality has gone downhill. Please do your research before buying. Next time I will NOT buy a brand new vehicle before they have a chance to get customer reviews. The main problem/concern is the collision crash warning system. It is very inconsistent and the orange warning signal comes on ALL THE TIME. One time I was driving down a road and the warning flashed and suddenly my pilot stopped in the middle of the road. It just stopped abruptly without warning. Apparently, it thought I was going to collide with something in front of me and I was not braking according to the way the system wanted me to. The problem is that there was NOTHING in front of me to brake for. Why should I brake for something not in front of me? This scared the crap out of me and it should not happen ever. There were cars behind me that also had to stop abruptly because of the malfunction in my brand new Honda Pilot. Another annoying complaint is the stereo system always has static. I have about 2 stations that come in clear enough to listen to. The next complaint is the car system should shut down after pushing the ACC button to shut the car. Once the door is open the radio should turn off. Sometimes this does not happen. I have to turn the car back on, shut the door, and turn it off again. I will only keep this car for the 3 years/36k warranty and then I am getting rid of it. I will not buy another Honda due to the quality slacking. While Im at it I may as well mention the complaint by many others regarding the rear tailgate door being off by about 1/4 inch. That is a valid complaint with my car as well, but I'm more concerned about the safety issues. Updat: traded it for a Lexus in 2020

Buy the Touring, add wireless charging
I took delivery of my 2019 Honda Pilot Touring eight-seater in August 2018, making me an early adopter. It is a huge step up from my refuse-to-die, stick-shift 1997 4Runner, which the Honda dealer took in trade. The Pilot is a full 12 inches wider, so backing out of the garage is done slowly and carefully, so as not to rip off a mirror. Very pleased with the Pilot's performance, acceleration, fit and finish, comfort, and features. It took about two minutes to get used to the push-button, fly-by-wire transmission selector. The front seats could use a bit more side bolstering; I'm sliding around a bit when turning. (That's one reason I don't care for leather seats.) The one feature I wanted that is standard in the Elite trim only is the wireless phone charger. No big deal; it's available as a dealer-installed option for about $350 (outrageously expensive, but a bargain compared to upgrading to the Elite, which had the undesirable second-row captain's chairs.) I also had the dealer install the splashguard set. The roof cross-rails I purchased online and installed myself. The 2019 Toyota 4Runner and Highlander still do not offer LED headlights or Apple CarPlay. Those were big factors in going for the 2019 Pilot. The Touring (and Elite) offer LED low beams AND LED high beams. The lower trims offer LED low beams, but halogen high beams, an ugly mix of white and yellowish color temperatures. Would be nice to see articulating headlights in the next generation Pilot. The LED headlights, the return of the physical volume knob, and the re-tuned nine-speed were the key reasons I waited for the 2019 instead of opting for a close-out 2018. The goofy steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are an annoyance and get in the way. I've downshifted unintentionally more than once. The LCD driver info panel is bright and nicely laid out. The big entertainment system touchscreen could use a thumb rest so you can steady your hand when trying to press virtual buttons or scroll through lists of songs. I am ENORMOUSLY ANGRY that the power tailgate's height limit cannot be set and that its upward motion cannot be stopped midway by pressing any of the tailgate buttons. Hopefully that will get changed with a firmware update. I wish the driver's seat could go a little higher. One complaint is that the sculpture lines on the hood, which are sharply angled from windshield pillars toward the vehicle center line, actually make it difficult (for me) to know exactly where I am in relation to highway lane markings and edges of the road. I wish those sculpture lines ran a bit more parallel to the edge of the vehicle. Also, why can't BOTH outside mirrors tilt down when I shift into reverse? I bought the Weathertech fitted floor mats and cargo liner; they fit beautifully. I glued a piece of rubber roofing material to the driver's floor mat so the heel of my gas-pedal foot won't wear through the mat. I hate the idle stop feature and always press the disable button when I start the vehicle. I can't imagine the huge extra wear and tear that feature puts on the starter motor, camshaft, battery, and other components. The CR-V was too small and the I certainly didn't need the Pilot's third row of seats. (The vehicle is for me only.) I wanted something in-between. But after seeing the 2019 Passport launched yesterday, I was disappointed in the tailgate design. I'm glad I opted for the Pilot.

Build Quality
The days of the Honda with 200k miles are gone. First off, this is a comfortable vehicle, but the inarticulate welds, the poorly aligned body panels and the high tech problems within the first month have convinced me that I need to either trade this in before 36k miles, or buy an extended warranty. Within the first 1000 miles I noticed: problems with the radar (the Cruise control frequently lost the car in front of me & loses the road with lane keep assist), Problems with the rear entertainment system (lots of static hiss in the headphones), problems with the idle stop- it never turned on and when the dealer checked they found that the $260 battery was faulty- (its a specialty battery; can't simply get another at Costco). I also advise any new buyer to thoroughly inspect the body panels for placement as my rear hatch is absolutely not squared when closed. I still love to drive it and it is leaps and bounds better than the Volkswagen Atlas, but the lack of initial quality in a $45k Honda is shameful.

Collision avoidance system and Auto off terrible
Collision avoidance system provides false or redundant warnings 100 percent of the time. Your're driving down the road and the steering wheel starts shaking and warning lights come on because the car detects something in the opposite lane. The Auto off feature is annoying too. The car would be fine if I could select to turn off both of these features as a default setting. But there is no way to do so - so every time I start the car I have to go through a series of steps to turn these features off. 10 MONTH UPDATE -- Car is nice except for collision avoidance System and Auto OFF. These things really need to be driver selectable. They both drive me bananas and I will be asking Honda to fix them. 18 Month Update -- Same issues -- Honda not responding to requests to address them. Very disappointing.

Chirping Noise
We purchased the 2019 Pilot in May and after a few days noticed a “chirping” noise coming from the underside of the car. We took the car to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong but did hear the noise. As they could not determine the source of the noise, they submitted our problem to the engineers at Honda and said they have had other similar complaints. We were told to the “record” the sound and send it in, which we did. After 4 months the noise is still happening and we have now been told it may be another few months to figure this out and that we would no longer receive any communication about our complaint. We love the car, but the noise is extremely annoying - not something we expected with a brand new car. We have googled this subject and others have indicated the noise is coming from the timing belt, but Honda is not supporting this as a fix. Love everything about the car, but HATE the noise!
Infotainment System Broken
As other reviews have mentioned, the infotainment system has known errors that Honda will not fix. In the middle of a six hour drive, the infotainment system along with the display behind the steering wheel kept resetting itself. Among other things, we lost the GPS and our speed. When we finally got to our destination we turned off the car and when we turned it on the next day the infotainment system remained off. Even when it is working there is a horrible popping noise in the speaker so you can't enjoy listening to music. Also the TV in back is choppy and unusable. This is completely unacceptable in a new car. The worst part of this is that Honda knows about this problem and is doing nothing to fix it and continues to sell cars with this defect. This will be my first and last Honda.
Almost perfect
My wife and I are among the first buyers of the new 2019 Pilots and so far we are thrilled. It’s only been a few days so I can’t speak to any long term realizability issues. I did want to take the time to do this early review because I was floored by the fact that the 2019 Touring model no longer has the ability to set the height of the tailgate. We found this out after trying to set the height in our garage when we got it home. I’m pretty disappointed knowing that we have a full loaded model with all this revolutionary tech, and we can’t set the tailgate height. The worst part is that this was available on last years Touring. Even the guys in the dealership were shocked to see it was taken away. I love the car as a whole, but be advised you have to opt for the Elite to get this. I chose not to go with the Eite because it has captains chairs only and I wanted the bench seat for our baby’s safety. Hope this helps someone else out.

Great family car
I traded in my 2018 CRV for this 2019 Honda pilot Touring. The first thing I could tell right the way is how much quieter this car is compared to my CRV. I can actually hear my music or my kid can understand the movie that being played in the back of the car. The road where I live is made out of concrete with groove in them, so the road noise get very loud. Having this car is a plus. The ride is great and smooth, it's not as sporty as other car. But hey the car is for family is wasn't meant to be driving like a sedan or sport car. One this I do notice with this car is when the car hit a speed bump, the car does rock side to side more easily. I think this due to suspension being soft. This car is also heavy, so to stop the car you'll need more distance, compared to my CRV. 9-Speed transmission is a bit weird, if you're driving between 25-30 mph, the car is not as smooth shifting. if you're driving other speed, shifting are smooth. as for infotainment, I had it freeze up on me once. I have not see it happening again after that. The thing that I love about this car the most is the torque vectoring. Man I love how this car takes corner, it feels like I'm driving a smaller car.

GREAT OUT OF THE GATE... THEN DISASTER!
I've been all over the map with vehicles (owned 90+). I have even spent over $90K on them in the past. However, I find the cheaper, mid level Japanese SUV's are the ticket. They are reliable and have the best resale. Paying more for a vehicle doesn't get you better quality, it just raises expectation levels that always end up in disappointment. I found the Pilot does everything a $40k vehicle should. Its smooth, quiet (for the most part) and relaxing to drive. My purchase deal fell apart on a 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6R, so I went across the street and drove the refreshed 2019 Pilot. I've had it for a while now and found only a couple of things that are disappointing: 1.) There is a bit of road noise on uneven pavement that transmits into the cabin. However, I am having Dynamat sound deadening installed in the doors and floor and that should help. Also changed tires to Michelin Defender LTX M/S and that improved noise/ride. 2.) Quality of Honda exterior plastics has gone downhill. They are easily scratched. My B and C pillars already have scratches on them and the black lower plastic body trim looks cheap. 3.) Window glass is of poor quality. My tint guy showed me little glass pimples he had to try and scrape off the front windows before he could apply the tint. It's obvious Honda is cost cutting more than ever now. 4.) Donut spare in a full size spare location? Even the owners manual says "if equipped with space saver tire"... I am swapping it out for a full size spare tire. In conclusion, I would say I am surprised how much I am enjoying this vehicle. I had a 2018 Land-Crusier earlier this year and that ended up in a Lemon Law suit that I won. Like I said, I am all over the map w/vehicles. The Honda Pilot (as with most Hondas) is a bit of a no-brainer purchase. I am glad to see they still are enjoyable to drive but only slightly disappointed in some of the material quality. However, that seems to be the case worldwide. I would definitely recommend this vehicle and purchase again. UPDATE: TRANNY LEAK FROM TRANSFER CASE. ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REPLACED @ 1,800K MILES. WENT INTO MEDIATION WITH HONDA FOR "BUY BACK". HONDA REFUSED AND DEALER BEGAN REPAIRS W/O MY APPROVAL. IT ALL WAS ALL VERY GREASEBALL ON HONDA CORPORATE & THE DEALER. NOW HAVE VEHICLE BACK. TRANSMISSION IS NOT AS SMOOTH PLUS CREAKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. RE-HIRED ATTORNEY AND CURRENTLY SEEKING OFFICIAL LEMON LAW CLAIM. CAR RENTAL AGENT SAID THEY HAVE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM HONDA THESE DAYS.... WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? WILL BE GOING BACK TO SUBARU. Update #2: Won lemon law suit against Honda, but vehicle totaled in head-on collision a few days prior. Walked away w/only a brusied pinkie finger from the air bag deployment. Ended up buying a Honda Ridgeline because I felt Pilot really saved my bacon in accident. Ridgeline is much more fun to drive and got it w/o the over sensitive Honda Sensing accident avoidance system. Handles better than the Pilot hands down.

Pilot Elite is a truly Elite-better than MDX!!
If you go Elite you are getting your Money’s worth Especially when you compare it to the top levels of the MDX, trust me, I test drove both MDX and Pilot Elite, bought the Pilot Elite. In reality, it’s only the difference of about $6-7k (pilots being cheaper) and Pilot Elite comes with more bells & whistles... ex. Panoramic Moonroof, Blu-Ray (vs. DVD in MDX!) and HDMI in Pilote Elite(vs. old school video component-mono, video, audio inputs in MDX—one word- Ridiculous!) ... as far as everything else it’s all the same features with a he exception of a lil extra plush seats in the MDX and the Acura tags and your paying more for in reality less! No thanks. I love this vehicle... I got it 3 weeks ago for my wife and we already took the family in a road trip, kids loved it, we loved it! Led lights, wireless phone charging, usbs everywhere( test drove Audi Q7 which lacked USB’s big time not to mention no rear entertainment and more $$) ventilated Sears, captain chairs, panoramic roof, power folding mirrors, the list goes on.... This Pilot is Supreme!

The Honda Pilot is a JERK!
I've owned my 2019 Pilot since Aug. 30, 2018. I read a lot of reviews on it and worried about the 9-speed transmission, but Honda supposedly refreshed it. I also chose the 2019 because it brought the knob back to the infotainment system. Well, both have given me issues. My infotainment system, like so many others, permanently froze up on me and had to be replaced. Now, some seven months after owning the car, my transmission has been intermittently "jerking" in the 30 mph range. Honda won't fix it and won't even admit there's a problem. Transmission problems are serious. I would avoid the Pilot until they replace the 9-speed completely.

Infotainment dangerous
The infotainment system has a known glitch the dealerships still can’t fix. There is a class action lawsuit as this is distracting when driving. Even worse, the speedometer cuts out to black when driving after the infotainment cuts off.

Now 4 Years
We still love our Honda Pilot. Been a really trouble free SUV and still so relaxing to drive. We love the Auto Pilot and Auto Cruise Control. Love using the Flash drives for our music. I put all our music oldies and newer on flash drives. Have 79 to 100 songs per USB Flash Drive. Happy I bought it.

Know your dealer
The car is priced with a little wiggle room, if you don’t go to an unscrupulous dealer like Jenkins Honda of Leesburg. I got a quote from them through Edmonds. Wasted time, energy and money after verbal confirmation of quoted price and availability of purchase the next day . Drove 45 miles to pick up car and after 3hrs of stories, they didn’t have it. Went to Coggins Honda of DeLand and purchased the car with no problems. They are professional, well informed on their product and are good people. The y we’re also referred to me by Edmunds.

Lemon! Lemon! Lemon!
I purchase a brand new Honda Pilot Elite 2019. It has been nothing but problems. The speedometer and dash console keep shutting off mid-drive, the audio pops and crackles all the time and randomly shuts off, the infotainment screen shuts off. It has been to the dealership 5 times for over 45 days and it's still not fixed. The worst part is that Honda did not offer to buy the thing back! They want me to keep driving a car that has the speedometer shut off mid-drive repeatedly! Having to file lawsuit to get them to take responsibility. Used to only buy Hondas. Never again! Stay away from this vehicle! Honda is struggling!

Lived up to expectations
This is my third Pilot (2003, 2015, 2019). Although I really had good results with the '03 and '15, this Pilot is by far the best. Handling is great, all safety features work as advertised, and has comfort for all passengers. Size of passenger compartment and cargo space is perfect for a mid size SUV. Recently took a three hour trip, covered 350 miles. Averaged 28.5 MPG. Have the car two months with 1000 miles on it. Based on my previous Pilots, I expect the same performance in the coming years. Styling is also a high point for this car. Stands out greatly among other SUV's.

Pilot Elite, Second to None!!
Our 5th new Honda purchase, been very pleased with all of them! Have owned for one year now with 9,500 miles on it. This Elite rides well and handles like a dream. To those complaining it handles clumsily, get a sports car. Its not meant to handle like some little roller skate. 9 speed transmission is very smooth, shifts well and is easy to master the push button drive. The automatic engine cylinder deactivation which allows it to run on 3 cylinders at cruising speeds has given us up to 33mpg on several occasions, not to shabby for a heavy vehicle going 75 mph with cruise control engaged. Very roomy, I am 6 foot and still have inches of headroom. Love the ratchet arm rests on front seats. Build quality is excellent, no rattles or wind noise, everything fits well. Infotainment works well, takes a bit to master it however. Acceleration is decent enough to move it into freeway traffic or passing on the old two lane roads. Cant really find fault with this SUV. If I had to gripe about anything it would be the engine start/stop feature which all automakers are using lately. DUMP IT!! I disable it everytime I get into the car. I would like the ride to be just a bit softer, as due to the 20 inch wheels it will give a bit harder ride on choppy pavement. Other than that, fits our bill 100%...We drove the Traverse which is slightly bigger but very coarse engine and bad reliability record...Highlander, felt cheap inside, didn't ride as well, not as roomy.... RX 350L, ridiculous 3rd seat not as roomy....MDX couldn't get the entertainment system with captains chairs second row for 2019 not to mention not as roomy.. Drive one develop your own conclusion, we couldn't be happier

First time Honda owner
Have only owned my new Pilot for a couple weeks but for the most part I am happy with the purchase. Ride is smooth and acceleration is acceptable for such a large vehicle. My major complaint is I did not test drive the vehicle on the interstate. Recently on first opportunity I was shocked to notice a significant wind noise emitting from each front door window. I visited Honda today to set up a service appointment and was told several owners have reported this issue.

Elite ride
I've owned a Pilot EX-L, Touring, and now the 2019 Elite. What a difference. The interior noise is reduced as much as I had hoped. The ride and handling is wonderful. Sound system is an upgrade as are all the new detailing that have been added. Would recommend this car and trim to anyone who wants the top-of-the-line because you get your money's worth.

2019 Pilot Radio, battery, kicklift issues
This is the fourth Honda we have owned and I don't think there will be a fifth purchase based on what I have experienced in one week's time with the new vehicle. On Day 3 with just 300 miles on the car, the radio stopped working. It had power to it but we couldn't use it for Apple Play or Sirius or even local channels. When we shut off the vehicle, the radio stayed on. I noticed this after about two hours and was lucky I caught it, because I did not want to drain the battery. I wound up pulling the fuse to the radio (#29, if anyone needs to know) to cut the power. I've had to do this three times so far. Now, when I start my car, I get a low battery warning. None of the interior lights were left on, no doors were open, etc. The car is off and dark. There are no key fobs in or near the car. I can't imagine that the one hour that the radio was stuck on could have drained the battery to this extent. The kicklift feature on my trunk hatch has stopped working. I don't know if this is related to having to pull the fuse or not. Pressing the button works, and the hatch lifts - but the kicklift is defective now. Another thing that happened with the interior is that the cover just about the passenger foot well keeps falling off. I contacted Honda about this and they said there are "no known issues" with the radio and trunk. I find this hard to believe. This car has less than 1000 miles on it! We purchased this vehicle for the purpose of allowing a safer car ride. My radio shut down in the night. Can you imagine if I was depending on this feature to function if I was lost or stranded or in a dangerous situation? Shame on you Honda!

To much popping from from speaker tweeter
We bought a 2019 honda pilot with then two weeks the front windshield started making a popping sound coming from the tweeter we Took the honda pilot four times to the dealership For them to try to repair it I was not a happy camper
Snow weather travel. :(
When this car and others like it travel in snowy conditions and don't get to park in a heated garage overnight do NOT expect it to start in the morning. It will need to be hauled, not towed, to a dealer so it can thaw out then run just fine until the next time you want to start it outside. It seems the engine is so good at heat dissipation it cannot conserve enough to keep itself from becoming an iceberg. So sad. Other than that we love this SUV.

2019 HONDA PILOT EX A GREAT VALUE
the New Pilot is an excellent family SUV. Drives good on snow and is easy to drive despite being a mid size SUV. Heated seats and Apple Play on the EX model is all you need. It is worth the price without paying more for the EX-L and other models. Only thing lacking is the trunk opening with a push of the button, but I think this is my best purchase of any car in my life. Had the car for a little over 6 months and have taken it on road trips. The Apple Play is awesome and we use it to navigate via I Phone.

Not a very safe vehicle
Not worth the price nor as safe as you’d think, especially when all the sensors are so sensitive. My brand new Pilot ( just made my 3rd payment) has been in the shop 3 times. How’d you like to be driving 55 mph you push your brake bc someone in front of you brakes then your brake mitigation takes over also brakes then the vehicle completely shuts down? We were on the highway. What if someone had rear ended us? This is just the beginning of our problems with the brake mitigation. We have the control off and it still turns itself on. We also have an electrical issue with the speaker system that still isn’t fixed, we’re told it’s a 3 trip process. 2 procedures then if not fixed which it’s not then completely replacing the wiring harnesses.

2016 is Better
To say the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) Lane Departure Warning Blind Spot Information (BSI) System Blind Spot Sensor Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is overly sensitive is an understatement. If you come around any curve the car beeps, alerts to brake and the steering wheel shacks. I don’t like it. We have a 2016 Pilot EX L that doesn’t have it, and I like it better!
