Good but not for the markup
Pilot is a good car if in the MSRP. With markup range from $2,000 to $4,000, it justifies another look of MDX. A little bumpy on highway even the road is not that bad. A little crowded for a family of six.
Absolutely the Best!
The Honda Pilot combines the driving luxury of an Accord and the convenience of an SUV. As a past Honda owner, my expectations were high. The Pilot exceeded all of my expectations. I highly recommend this vehicle!

honda pilot--2003
we have the ex-l with dvd player. it drives and handles more like a car but has the versitility of a truck--seats fold easily, there is plently of space for larger families and their gear. kids love the tv and its easy to run from the front seat. for heavy towing and off- roading its not as well suited as the trailblazer and its cousins, but for light camping and home depot runs, its perfect.
proud to own one
I live my life on the road with 4 active children. The versatility and power, combined with the seating capacity is the best value for your money. On long trips with my family it feels as comfortable as being in our living room. I previously owned the Honda Odessey and traded that van in for the versatility of the all wheel drive. Although the van offered more spacious comfort while seating 7, the Pilot, which can seat up to eight, can take me more places using the same gas milage. Being able to put the back seating down and use as cargo is like having a truck. Very durable with luxurious comfort. It's a big hit with my family.
Best SUV for the Money Anywhere!
We took a beating by trading a 2001 Subaru H6 Outback LL Bean edition to buy this model and I still don't regret it. The transmission is smooth as silk (unlike the Subaru). It rides on the highway very smoothly & quietly (I don't miss the crossbar wine of the Subaru). It has plent of cargo space for anything and the 7-passenger seating is great. Everyone in my family wants one after they have driven it. Honda hit the nail right on the head with this one, it's a great value.
Great SUV!!!
We have had this Pilot for only 2 weeks and we have already put 2,000 miles on it. It drives like a dream and the seats are so comfortable and it is so much more quiet than our previous SUV. We drove for 8 hours to Gulf Shores, Al and I was not worn out when we got there! The gas mileage is already better than our old Mountaineer and it is only going to get better. Paid sticker for it and had leather, rubber floormats, foglights added. Love this SUV!!
Great buy!!!
I bought this SUV after comparing it with both Lexus' SUVs, Toyota Sequoia and Highlander, Acura MDX, Mercedes Benz and BMW SUVs. I have to say it is very smooth to drive, has great power, and the features are incredible. Even though in Puerto Rico it is much more expensive than in the States, I believe it is worth the price.
my pilot info
Our experiance thus far has been excellent. We believe this car will serve our familys needs for the next 10 years. We have already been on several road trips and even thru the mid-west with it and are impressed.
Worth the Wait
Honda hit a home run. We'd been on a waiting list for this vehicle, and it was worth the wait. Classic Honda design with lots of included bells & whistles. Feels more like a car than an SUV - smooth ride, no tippiness, and very solid.
Excellent SUV Overall
I have driven Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokees for the last 12 years and was very pleased with them. This year, when it was time for a new car most of my research kept pointing to the Honda Pilot. I have not been disappointed with my choice. The interior design, style and spaciousness are all top quality. I have driven only 3500 miles, so I cant comment on reliability but Honda has a long history of reliability so I have no concerns there. I would recomend this SUV to anyone looking for a midsize SUV.
Great vehicle.
Have had the Pilot for 3 weeks. Paid over sticker, unfortunately. Enjoy the drive the room, and the layout. Mileage so far, though -- 2 tanks of gas...is only 10-12 mpg in city traffic. Please tell me this will improve dramatically.
honda pilot, pros and cons
Great vehicle. I switched from a minivan to this midsize suv, i love it. it drives wonderfully, plenty of room for 4 kids too. We motorhome, so we bought it for the towing capabilities too. basically hook it up and go!!! its super. you wont go wrong with this one..
Ho Hum
I've been using a Pilot, but won't be buying one. Does anyone get near the advertised MPG? Does anyone with taste really get excited about the exterior? Just another SUV aspiring to be a minivan if you ask me. Not worth the price premium--you can buy a vwery decent sedan AND a pickup for the price.
Great SUV
This is a very versatile vehicle. The seating options make is so convenient for handling large items or passangers and the ease of switching from cargo to passengers is effortless.
What I Bargained For
Exactly what I wanted. No issues at all.
Luv my Pilot
This is the best vehicle I've bought. I have owned 3 other Honda's with no problems and this one is better than ever.
Perfect Timing!
Really wanted the Pilot but just could not come to the realization that I was going to be forced to pay MSRP and atleast a 4.9% finance rate! And during the days of interest free financing going on with the American truck makers. I almost decided against the Pilot until I read one of these reviews and someone made the statement, "I'd rather get a bad deal on a good vehicle than get a good deal on a bad vehicle". I thought that statement made alot of sense. So now I'm a proud Pilot owner and I even was able to work a deal with the local dealer to get a great price on some running boards and have one of the dealer add on's at no cost.
AWSOME
I love this thing. The day after I got it I had to pull an Explorer out of the mud.
Honda Pilot EX-L RES
I bought at the end of June. Have close to 2000 miles on it. Don't pay more than MSRP + Taxes. Why? Because considering the alternatives and that this is a first year model, I don't think the Pilot is worth more than $36,000 OTD. I had a problem with a wind noise coming from the passenger side. Also have a problem with the drivers side windshield washer leaking out fluid onto the hood. I still need to take it in for that... Nice SUV overall. This is my first import purchase. I do miss the power of the Chevy V-8's and the low range. I'm actually one of the few SUV owners that enjoy tackling rough terrain where you need low range to get up the hill...or down one.
comfort
This is a great vehicle to have for families. I enjoy all the amenities that it has like plenty of room in a relatively small body, power, handling. However if you are like me and this is your first SUV after years of driving sedans, be prepared for some bumps. The ride is not as smooth as I was hoping. I do feel the minor bumps on the road, but I guess that is what you get with an SUV. Sound system is great, cloth interior is great. Tires are wide and give you great handling. Make sure you get the cross bars on the roof rack, it is very usefull. Overall great vehicle and highly recommended, just a little bumpier than I thought.
Honda Pilot
Even at list, it's a lot of vehicle for the money. Superior to the competition in almost every way.
Pilot - Detail to Engineering
Everything from design to build quality is typical Honda excellence (I also own a CR-V). Practically no detail was overlooked. The EX is great value for those priced out of the Acura MDX. Why pay for a name... when 67% of the parts between the 2 vehicles are common?
Honest Pilot Review
Well my wife got her PILOT. OK 34K$ for a honda, but thats what she wanted. Sure its a nice well made SUV, but 34K$ It rides nice and soft, turns nice, breaks are OK, engine has a lack of low end, ok after you hit 25mph. Basicly a large 4x4 mini van. My new 2003 5.4 expedition gets the same mpg go figure.
A Happy New Pilot Owner
This is the first SUV and 3rd Honda we have owned - we stil have all 3 of them. The '93 Accord has 120,000 miles on it and still running strong. We expect the same from our new Pilot. The Pilot has excellent handling and all the convenience features we want. It provides all the comfort and peach of mind when driving on the road. I am looking forward to those family vacation trips to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite.
The Best SUV on the road
The Honda Pilot has the capability to be used as a truck, lots of room. You can put allot of stuff in the SUV and still be able to find it. It rides like a Ca---- and gets great gas mileage, 25 highway for me . My wife and I feel safe while driving this vehicle. Buy one you won't be disappointed. Fraternally, Tom
Pilot is the best SUV
Dealing with a Honda dealership is among the worst of all experiences. Owning the new Pilot is among the best! The head room and extra width, along with solid performance and a simple, well thought out interior, make this the best SUV that still fits into your garage. After 3 MBZs and an Audi TT, I am holding onto the Pilot!
This is the the best SUV ever!
I love my Pilot very much! The ride is very smooth, the interior is roomy and very user fiendly design. The look is so cool, much better than almost all the SUV's on the market except MDX.
Best Riding SUV
The Acura MDX and Honda Pilot were very similar with their car-like ride, space and features. Both of these vehicles were head and shoulders above the others that we tested. We went with the Honda Pilot due to the higher cost of the Acura MDX. In our minds, we could not see paying the extra money for the extras that the MDX offered.
WE BOUGHT A LEMON
Our Pilot has been in the shop 34days for repairs since we bought it. Not happy withit at all.
Pilot Rview
Love this SUV! As a former owner of a Suburban which broke down constantly, I love the reliability, handling, and styling of the Honda Pilot. Very practical car and stylish at the same time. Priced correctly by Honda, but the problem is that dealerships are adding $2000-$3000+ as the Dealer Markup because of the demand.
I LOVE MY PILOT
THE BEST I LOVE IT
My first Experience in a PILOT
Road trip 600mile.I got only 12- 14city/19mpg highway. VERY NOISY road/tire noise in 2nd/3Rd row where your childrens sits! Poor gove compartmnt design, your legs hits it when you stretch or try to put your legs agains the wall. Noise/squeeks behind the dash or radio. Wind noise is usual, but you will hear it loader than the highlander and sequoia. So if you looking for a quiet, nice, car for trip= this is NOT the car!!!! 2nd row seats is not even as roomy as a honda Accord. 3rd row seats are for children under age of 10. 4-YEARS of engineering a pilot and this is what they came up with?
Great suv
A great vehicle. Lots of room and very comfortable. Great gas milage. Its about time they built a real Honda suv not a rebadged Izuzu.
Great car!
Traded up from our troublesome 2000 Tahoe LS. Excellent in every respect.
bad fm reception
one major defect is that the antenna is buried in the pillar at the rear thus making for poor fm reception. The car is otherwise a wonderful vehicle.
good
Very nice over all car perfect for a big family with a seeting for 8 nice engine 240 hp 3.5 leeter v-tec v6
excellent suv
I went to german suv (mercedes)what a mistake constantly in shop for little problems. Our pilot is probably the best car we have owned with the only exception being our 94 acura legend. We also have a ford explorer, no comparison to the honda. I highly recomend the pilot you wont be dissappointed with this suv.
LOVE IT!
MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BOTH OWNED ACCORDS.I NEEDED SOMETHING ROOMER.THIS IS IT. IT HANDLES JUST LIKE A CAR. THIS IS MY FIRST SUV AND I AM SO HAPPY THE PILOT WAS MY FIRST CHOICE. I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THE CHANGE FROM A CAR TO A SUV WITHOUT LOSING THE SMOOTHNESS OF THE RIDE NOT TO MENTION IT IS AFTER ALL A HONDA.
Great experience with Honda Pilot
After purchasing my Honda Pilot in November of 2002 I've had nothing but positive experiences. The car has a wonderful ride and is extremely roomy. It also has provided extra cargo space when needed.
Ex-Explorer Owner
We have just purchase the Pilot this week. I owned a '96 Explorer. There is no comparision to the new Explorers. Pilot is light years ahead of anything in this price range. Fit/finish exceptional. Comfort handling all exceptional to everything we test drove. It is worth the wait on the dealers waiting list(2 monthes).
Best for Northwest
Excellant dealer and sales rep.
Great vehicle
I've had it for 2 weeks now with 700 miles under my belt and it's fantastic.
From a truck-based to a car-based SUV
Having driven a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for three years, the transition to the Pilot was easy and welcome. The ride is much more comfortable and the cabin noise is considerably less and the pick-up is great. The cargo space is far superior and since I don't tow a boat, the comparison to US SUVs puts the Pilot ahead in my case.
awesome
the best suv in the world
2003 Pilot Review
Delivered 6/8/2002. Black exterior, gray leather, navigation system, back- up camera, chrome bumper cladding, front bumper cover with foglights, and added aftermarket 8inch DVD system. Nicest driving vehicle I've owned, comfortable. Plenty of power, turns like a car, very quite interior. Third row small but functional. Excellent fit and finish. Like the looks with added front bumper covers more than the MDX.
Great Truck
Paid right at MSRP with a lot of haggling between 3 dealerships on the last day of the month. Love the truck. Love the room. I didn't need the towing ability, I just needed the space. Rides great, is quiet and handles just fine. Hwy and city driving is very comfortable. Quality craftmanship. Even the plastics don't appear to be cheap.
Beyond Luxury Class...Best SUV Yet.
It seems like Honda didn't spare anything. We traded in a Lexus for this Pilot and I was worried about loosing some luxury comforts...This Pilot is much more than my Lexus. Better audio (much better sub-woofer), DVD, third row seating, more cargo, great interior design, plenty of storage, etc...for much less.
Great bang for your buck!
I, too, almost purchased a Highlander, until my husband begged me to look at and test drive the Pilot. I was immediately in love. The space inside this SUV is amazing. It is much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside ... and the seats are very comfortable (love the leather). Being new parents, we really digged the DVD, and figured it would come in handy on long road trips with the kiddos.
Jerry's Redrox Pilot
I traded in a "00 Town&Country LTD AWD and have never looked back. Although the T&C had more people room it lacked the power to pull my 19' boat. This Pilot is roomy , powerful and very comfortable. The build quality is excellent and a joy to own. GM, Chrysler and Ford can stick their 0% incentives where the sun don't shine. The right choice is a quality vehicle that will have some trade in value when it's time to replace it.
Perfect Fit
We have been in our SageBrush Pearl EXL- RES for about 2 months now and I can honestly say that I like it more now than I did when we brought it home. Sure, there are a few things that could be different. Overall, it is the best vehicle I have owned. Only time will tell if the reliability to stay solid. I am betting on Honda and I have rarely been dissapointed in the past. The car gets great gas mileage (in comparison to other SUVs) looks stylish but I am comparing it to my Chevy Blazer. The Rear Entertainment System has exceeded my expectations - it is VERY versatile. I am quite happy with this choice.
