Cavernous
It has a very solid, if not heavy feel. It handles well for an SUV. A quiet, comfortable ride. The radio can be loud without being annoying. The fit and finish is perfect. A huge center console won't have you and your significant other jockeying for elbow space. The front seating is cavernous. More front space than the much larger Sequoia and maybe even the Tahoe. The car feels slightly underpowered, surprising at 240 HP. You can floor it for more power of course, but the transmission will not-so-seamlessly downshift and the engine will quietly yell at you. I just filled my first tank since the purchase and if I did the math correctly, I got 14.9 MPG city
Transmission Problems
I would not recommend the Honda Pilot to anyone that intends on keeping the vehicle for a long time. My transmission went at 101,000 miles and the maintenance had always been done by the book. Looking at $2500 to replace transmission. Once repaired, I will make sure that it belongs to someone else within a few days. Will not buy another Honda. I have owned a couple of Honda Accords and they were good cars. The Pilot Sux. Wanted something bigger because I am a disabled veteran with leg injuries and needed the extra leg room. If you but a Pilot, you had better buy the triple super duper extended warranty with it, because you will have transmission problems.

Seven Years
Overall performance is very good. AWD is excellent in wet and snow covered roads. After installing a K & N air filter highway mileage is as high as 25 mpg. What I do not like is the quality. Chromed door handles started peeling at 50,000 miles. Exterior paint marks up easily. Many little things continue to go wrong. My next SUV will not be a Honda.
Surprise
Attention: My wife just paid $370 to replace fuel injection valve. Discovered there is a recall on transmissions. Anyone aware of this? Very surprised and alarmed. Loved this car but now I'm disappointed in Honda reliablity.
karceneaux
The gas mileage for the first year was 19 on the highway, but now we get 24. The back seat area needs more room if you have kids. The factory tires are terrible. Road noise, uneven wear.
NOT HAPPY
NEEDS MORE ROOM, TO CRAMPED IN THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE VEHICLE. ENGINE A BIT TO SMALL, HANDLES GOOD, A/C GOOD STEREO SYSTEM NEEDS UPGRADE,
I'll be buried in this car
I own a 2003 Honda Pilot that I bought new. I wouldn't trade this car for a new one. It has 280k miles on it. I've had so few problems with it and I haven't even had to change the spark plugs. I've been told not to change them until it's missing and it's hasn't ever been missing. It's the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. I'm 70 years old so as you can imagine, I've owned quite a few cars. I'm hoping that I live long enough for it to reach 500k miles.

Great Family Vehicle
Average over 20K miles/year with 4 kids and have had minimal issues. Replaced 2 motor mount and other than that just normal maintenance of tires, battery, brakes, etc. Driven to east coast and Florida numerous times from Midwest. Tow boat and wave runner regularly. Excellent responsiveness and great maneuverability.
Best car I've ever owned
This vehicle is the best car I have ever owned all I've had to do was change breaks out and cha ge oil as needed runs great still with over 208000 miles on it

Drives like an Accord!
This has been an excellent car. Plenty of room for passengers and/or storage! As previously noted this car drives just like an accord! However, it does drink up the gas in the city. My only issue with his vehicle is the lack of support from the dealership! I would definitely recommend a Honda Pilot to anyone!

Excllent SUV
I love my Honda Pilot! It is a great SUV and very reliable. I have 140,000 miles without any problems! Except for the mpgs, I am spoiled driving my SUV. The only problem I can say I have with it is that I don't want to drive anything else now! I would and do personally recommend this vehicle to anyone, from two people to 5 adults and 3 children.
Trashy Transmission
Warning: Do not but Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny. My tranny went out after warranty went out. Even dealer told me that there was a problem with the Pilot and the V6 with auto tranny. A $2500 fix for me. I am a disabled veteran and live on a fixed income. Bought Pilot expecting to get about 250,000 miles out of it. What a joke. If you buy, plan on trading before power train warranty runs out. Do not end up with the same problem that I did. Warning. Do not buy Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny.
Absolutely amazing
My mother bought my Pilot new in 2003 when I was five years old. When I turned 16, I received the car to drive. Within two months, I plowed into the back of a Ram.... and my car was barely damaged, while I had no damage. I am now 20, a junior in college, and still driving this car because I just can't let it go. It has 235,000 miles and still running strong. This car has driven across the country multiple times, and has never had a major issue in its life. Aside from routine maintenance, my baby has never needed to go to the shop (except for a new hood after the accident.... oops). She's reliable, dependent, handles well, can fit 8 people WITH room for storage, and has a surprisingly great stereo system. Spacious, roomy, safe- the only negative thing I can say about this car is the gas mileage. It's pretty terrible. But, it still doesn't beat how reliable this car has been. Honda lover for life; EVENTUALLY, I will give mine up for a new Pilot.

BUY A HONDA PILOT!!
I have such a connection to my Pilot. I named her Jade. I have had a blast going all over the place with this truck. Its comfy, roomy and oh so soft interior. It runs excellent except when its rainy or really really cold, Then it needs some tender love and care because it's an older vehicle, but it has not once felt like it run old. The pickup and braking are wonderful. I feel very safe in this vehicle. I have had a civic before but I love the Pilot. Im excited to see what my journey as a loyal Honda buyer will bring me next!!

Disappointed with Honda Pilot
I sold my Honda Pilot EX with Navagation 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. Got poor gas milage. Fit & finish was not up to Honda standards. Also was disappointed that a factory sunroof was not available. I previously had a 1999 Lexus RX 300. The RX 300 Lexus was by far the best car I have ever owned & driven. I bought a new 2003 Lexus RX 300 and am much happier with this SUV. I am getting 19 MPG in the city and 23MPG on the Hwy. Also, The Lexus with more standard features (Bells & Whistles) actually cost less than the Honda Pilot as the Honda dealers do not deal on the Pilot. Once you have had a Lexus, its difficult to be happy with anything else.
This Is A Honda?
I so wanted to love this car! But what a disappointment. Much of the blame goes to the service dept. at the dealership who scratched the ENTIRE side of my car when it was in for running board installation. This led to a trip to their body shop, which tore my car apart to repaint. Voila! I was left with a whistling windshield, ill-fitting moldings and clanky suspension noises. Back to the service dept.---> windshield still whistles, & the clanking has been replaced with a bucket-of-bolts-style clicking noise from the brakes. "Pilots are known for this" says the service guy. Lovely. To make a long story short, my Pilot's for sale. I'm getting a BMW.
Pilot
We had just purchased the vechile and a nearby delership who got early shipments. Worth every penny that we had to pay over sticker.
2003 Pilot - 7 yrs old
I've had this car for 7 years and like all Hondas, it's been super reliable. I had to replace the stereo a year ago (it broke for no reason). It was $1000 to replace, so I bought an aftermarket, but the steering wheel controls won't work with it now. The interior door handle was plastic with "metal tape" over it and it was peeling, so I had to replace it. I hate the removable headrests for the 2nd/3rd row seats (big pain), but they've redesigned them in 2009. Overall it's been a great car and I'm buying another Pilot now (2010), which is even better designed. I love Hondas!
First generation Pilot is a Gem
This EX-L w/RES Honda Pilot has been owned since new, purchased in June 2002 as a 2003 model. This vehicle has 238,000 on the original engine and transmission. I’m about to get new tires installed along with a new power steering pump and plan on driving it for another 100,000 miles.

17 Years and 262K--Tired But Still Going To Work
Honda Pilot has proven to be a reliable, old friend. Owned new since 2002 and steadily maintained, the Pilot has only had a few hiccups along the way. The AC has departed 3 times at $1500 each. The leather seats are shot--nothing left of them. The door locks no longer function with the exception of the rear hatch door. Ingnition switch failed at 190K. Chrome foil covering inner door handles and some other interior have developed sharp edges and will cut! Alternator needed replacing at 200K. No engine or tranny problems--passed CA smog again last month.

One Piece of Crap
Save your money and buy another SUV. I thought I was purchasing a quality vehicle. After signing the papers I found out the samll things are driving me crazy. Try to hang you dry cleaning in the back with no hanging hooks. Try and use the roof rack with no cross bars. Why would they not put a simple compus in the car. For the money it is a piece of crap. The steering wheel does not move enough. Put stuff in the center box and watch it fall our when you open the door for the cell phone. The designer of the SUV needs to take some lessons from Americans. Try to put something through the back door window, which does not open.
BEST OF THE BEST
BEING IN THE HONDA BIZ FOR OVER A DECADE I CAN HONESTLY SAY THIS IS THE BEST HONDA PRODUCT MADE. IT SURPASSES THE ODYSSEY AND CRV BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND FIT & FINISH. THE PILOT LOOKS A LITTLE PLAIN BUT MAKES UP FOR IT IN COMFORT AND POWER. MY WIFE AND I ARE COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH OUR NEW PILOT AND HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS TO MAKE...A STRONG RECOMMENDATION FROM VERY FUSSY CONSUMERS!!
my review
I absolutely love it! It was worth waiting almost 30 yrs for Honda to build their own V6 SUV........ Im glad I only had to pay MSRP for It. I hear many dealers are charging 2-3% over sticker.
Worth The Wait
After almost purchasing a Toyota Highlander last year, I held out waiting for the Pilot. Boy, am I glad I did! I have driven a CR-V since 1998, and this is by far an unbelievable change. Some local dealers were charging MSRP plus forced options packages with a dealer markup of over 300% over Honda's suggested installed prices! I shopped around and found a dealer that would let me actually "choose" the options I wanted and they didn't inflate the price. (Honda North in Danvers, MA)
mpg
nice car, but i did not get 17mpg, more like 14-15 mpg
breaking in a new vehicle
I waited 1 year for this SUV and i think it was well worth it. It drive's like a "mom's car"; soft, quiet, etc and has all the utility features of a minivan. i'm not sure about reliability because, right off the lot, rear heating didn't work and one of the front vent broke off. other than than, i get the feeling that the car is well built all around, typical of honda. my thumb is up and we(my relatives) are getting 3 more of these suvs.
Pleased with Pilot
I'm a new Honda Pilot owner. What an awesome vehicle. Quiet ride, smooth but powerful engine, and a great high- tech 4WD system for the snow mountains in winter. It has excellent visibility for the driver and the interor is very, very versatile! I have no complaints about the Pilot, and would recommend it to anyone
The Ultimate *Suburban* Utility Vehicle
Owned for about 1 week now - 500 miles. Paid MSRP plus 'no choice' options I negotiated to my satisfaction, bringing cost to 35K w/o tax. Kids love it - the DVD player is fabulous and well thought out w/ dual zone audio and wireless headphones. The seat/storage configuration flexiblity and ease of use make this a monster of a family SUV. For moving humans, groceries, and all stuff of life, this is the best Suburban Utility Vehicle now available IMHO.
Perfect Size
Had been looking for a SUV that drives like a car. Found one in the Pilot. Has excellent power, but havent had it long enough to gauge fuel economy. Plenty of room inside and not to big outside. A/C works excellent. Feel lucky i guess, that I paid Only MSRP. Overall an excellent vehicle. Love it
Darn close, but no cigar??
This car fits our needs to the "T". There is flexibility of having room for the kids and when needed, room to haul large items. The engine has next to the best gas mileage for a mid-sized SUV with the exception of the MDX; mixed commute driving is 18-20. Handling and ride are tops, again with the exception of the MDX. The engine is surprising quiet and relaxed even at 3,000 to 4,000 rpms when compared to other SUV's. The seats are actually comfortable, except for the thin padding behind the "activity tray". The storage pockets throughout the vehicle are proving more useful than one would think possible.
Got a steal of a deal
Similar to the Acura MDX which I drove before the Pilot came out. The Pilot is a very easy to drive SUV with just some small nit picks about it. Got mine for STICKER with no premium on it. I picked my Red one on Saturday June 8th and then drove it 272 miles back home. All the local dealers are putting a 4000-8000 premium on the cars out here.
Great SUV
Probably the BEST MIDSIZE SUV available today
Why buy a Lexus or Acura
The new Honda Pilot has more luxury and closer to a car-like ride than I expected. The Pilot is larger and wider than the Acura and Lexus SUV. Why pay more when you can get the quality and reliability in the Pilot. The third row seat is actually sized appropriate for use and not just a selling feature. When buying, look for a dealer with at least one year's President Award for service and sales. I purchased mine from Thompson Honda in Cartersville, GA and passed two other Honda dealers on the way. The sales personnel and management have character and integrity. This is my second purchase from Thompson.
Ultimate SUV
After having owned a Nissan Pathfinder, Dodge Durango as well as a Ford Explorer I have an ample sense of the SUV market and I have found the best. This car brings nothing but driving pleasure. Coupled with outstanding interior and exterior design there is no true competition in its class or any other class...
Look at this car
First Honda; now I know why their models are so popular. Good quality build; Honda knows how to incorporate the standard features you need. There are no options save for the DVD and navigation system (watch for dealer add- ons). My dealer had none; it was a good transaction for a good quality family car.
Fantastic!
Great looks and fits the family and our gear!
Family Vehicle
Great Vehicle for family outings. Children love the entertainment system. Getting to the third row seat may be difficult for adults, should be ok for kids though. Good job as usual, Honda!
A perfect family vehicle
I just got my Pilot yesterday. It's a great family vehicle with features that please both my wife and I. I love the 240hp and it's output. I took it out on the freeway and it had great pickup, visibility and manovourability. My wife thinks that it is easy to drive/park and that it can carry our child and a bunch of his friends for outings. My son loves the panoramic view and the space in the very rear seat is more than enough for his age (5) . Although we paid full price for the SUV we were lucky to get the black color so soon. Right now there is a two month wait, but the dealership really worked to get ours in a few weeks. Sure to be a favorite for families.
New Owner
Granted, I just purchased this vehicle, and have been pleased overall.
After 1st week
The Pilot is an attractive, versatile "suburban" SUV, geared for highway/city travel. It is larger than most in the mid-size class. It has a car-like turning radius & great pickup. Honda has added so many "little features", like shoulder straps for middle passengers, lots of cargo net hooks, hidden storage, 4 power outlets, 9 beverage holders, storage compartments everywhere. Have not yet tried 4WD feature. Have not travelled in rear seats.
Awesome SUV
I have owned 5 different SUVs, 4Runner, Pathfinder, Jimmy, Mercedes and Lincoln. This SUV, the Pilot beats them all, hands-down. Superior handling, ride, comfort, responsiveness, and fun.
Excellent Ride!
I had a ford explorer before but the Honda Pilot is better by far. It has more room and it rides smoothly. I am so glad I bought this car.
Rides like my E300
Solid feel, and quiet - low road noise. This beats out the ML320, Discovery II, X5, Explorer and Pathfinder...and I tried ALL of them! I feel like I was in my MB E300 again. Unfortunately the dealer didn't give me a break on the price - for obvious reasons.
pilot
this is a exellent vehicle. pilot rules! ride, handling and comfort are first class.
Awesome !
I put down $500 for the yet to be named Honda SUV 6 months ago. Seldom are expectations met to this degree!!! Finally, car peope and truck people can both agree that this is one awesome SUV. The quality is fantastic, drives as a truck but ride is like a car, value for money in even paying MSRP is just great (don't believe all the people poo-pooing the missing sunroof - thats a $1,000 saved in my opinion). My dealer tells me in three months they expect a 12-18 month wait list !
Very Good Midsized Option
It was a hard choice between the Pilot and the Pathfinder. The Pathfinder's ride was more supple, the interior was of a higher grade material, it had more traditional SUV rugged yet svelt styling and the standard equipment list was much better. Pathfinder also has a better choice of exterior and interior colors and allows buyers to negatiate price, I was ready to buy 1 at 1K below invoice with rebate! In the end though, i chose the the Pilot for it's much better gas milage, more room, and far superior expected resale value. I also had some concerns about a pending complete redesign of the Pathfider.
This is not an
I have owned an Acura MDX for 5 months which I absolutely love. As a result, I ordered a Pilot. I was surprised at the $31K price, which is within $4K of my MDX, despite the fact that the Pilot has no sunroof and 1 year/14,000 miles less warranty, etc. The exterior looks like an oversized CRV. The quality of the interior was not even in the same universe as the MDX (too many things to list, just compare for yourself). It did drive comparably to the MDX. In my opinion, the Pilot is a total rip-off compared the MDX. Before you buy a Pilot, check out the MDX. We ended up with a new Sequoia for only $750 more.
WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
My wife talked me into getting a practical car. I was very sceptical being used to BMW or AUDI--but I just grow to love it more and more. Great power, decent handling, supurb layout of gages and controls. To be fair I only have 400 miles on it but there is NOTHING I wish was different yet, exccpt maybe a stiffer suspension. My son can't rave enough about the DVD and rear stereo options. We used to never take my BMW 750il as a family, we always took the surburban--now we only use this thing!! Thanks Honda!!
honda
good car to drive and fun to drive good fuel economy
Excellent SUV - little room for bargains
Great car but don't expect to barter for a price. They're going to sell fast so they aren't negotiating.
