Awesome SUV for Moms
This is a great family car.. an alternative to the minivan. We can fit our baby, all of his things, all of our things and our 120 lb. dog comfortably. The ride is extremely smooth and the car is very manageable. It has everthing I need and doesn't feel too big even though it is fairly large. Love it!
Honda-4-Life
It's a Honda. It does everything that any other SUV can do, except it does it perfectly. The build quality is exceptional. It's roomy and quiet. It's fun to drive and the stadium type seating in the 2nd and 3rd rows are a bonus. OK, complaints (if you can call them that). The second bench should have an adjustable forward and rear travel. Gas mileage is probably slightly better than most of the other V6/V8 SUVs out on the market today. As for paying MSRP, well, I paid MSRP but haggled about 50% off on my options. It's a Honda. The price is worth it. Don't pass this up on your list of SUV choices...matter of fact, make it the only choice.

GREAT family car
Highest NHTSA crash test and rollover ratings of any SUV or minivan, better than Highlander, but Honda should at least offer side curtain airbags. Interior spaciousness is phenomenal, no comparison with Highlander. Exterior styling is very bland, not even stylishly understated bland like the Highlander. This is a GREAT family car for those who don't quite need the seating space of minivan. A nice set of compromises in the very best sense of the term.
Great, but need improvement
I am not an owner yet, but did some research on the Pilot. Good value for the money in its class, but need improvements. We need a bigger vehicle for our baby, and home improvement project for our new house. Maybe, we wait another year to see if Honda improves the Pilots. In my opinion, Honda's been playing game with demands vs. supplies. Honda makes profit at least $3000 per high demand vehicle (Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, 3.2 TL) not fair for customers. My '99 Accord has oil leak from transmission at 50K mile. This is NOT typical for a Honda. Should I buy a Honda again? I know Honda and Toyota have very good resale values.
Not just an SUV
I have owned my Pilot almost a year now and still feel thrilled everytime I get behind the wheel. The interior is spacious and accomodating whether you are carrying cargo or people. The seats flip up or seemingly disappear depending on your needs at that time. Mileage is good especially considing the people capacity of the vehicle. It gets as good as or better mileage than the averge minivan. Too bad all those nasty people who target SUV's as the eviromental destroyers of our Earth don't realize that!I have 3 children and they have friends, I need a safe people mover. The Pilot assures me a safe trip even in last winters deep heavy snow.
Near Perfect
The Pilot is the best vehicle we've ever owned. A great highway cruiser and city commuter. The Pilot is our first SUV and won our vote over the Explorer, Exped, Highlander, Sequoia, Envoy, Yukon, Durango, T&C 4WD and Montero. After 3000 miles, we have recovered from the thought of paying sticker and not taking advantage of a 0%/60 mo deal. The Pilot has many strengths that help explain why our recent 1000 mile trip with 3 kids was the most painfree trip we've ever had. Our only negative experience is the daily coin flip we must face for driving rights to the Pilot. Definitely put the Pilot on your "must drive" list prior to buying your next SUV.
Pilot Advocate
Bought new and have put on 33000 miles in 18 mos. Only problem was needed battery replaced due to defect under warranty. My wife loves it and tells everyone. Tight turning radius, rides like a car. Excellent family car.
Darn close, but no cigar??
This car fits our needs to the "T". There is flexibility of having room for the kids and when needed, room to haul large items. The engine has next to the best gas mileage for a mid-sized SUV with the exception of the MDX; mixed commute driving is 18-20. Handling and ride are tops, again with the exception of the MDX. The engine is surprising quiet and relaxed even at 3,000 to 4,000 rpms when compared to other SUV's. The seats are actually comfortable, except for the thin padding behind the "activity tray". The storage pockets throughout the vehicle are proving more useful than one would think possible.
great value
The Honda is a very sophisticated vehicle compared to my 10 year old Explorer and to all of the other 4WD vehicles I drive while on the job. It is fast, smooth, and has plenty of room for me (6'3) and my stuff (bikes, plywood, skis, etc). The interior is well thought out, and the powertrain is exceptionally smoth. Handling is excellent at low speeds; could be a bit firmer on the 62 mountain curves on my commute.
HONDAAAAAAAAA !
Wonderfully crafted. Perfect interior. As quiet as my BMW 540. The visibility is incredible. The multi adjustable power seat accomodates everyone. Nice low end power available for highway passing.
Pilot Soars
I am a Honda person, so I may be biased. I love this truck. It is so roomy inside (I have friends who recently purchased the Highlander and they say it feels smallish compared to the Pilot). The power is nice right from the line. You'll be happy you decided to purchase this vehicle.
This SUV Rocks!
We were shopping for a CR-V, there were none to be found, so we got the Pilot instead, and we absolutely love it!
My Pilot
I love my pilot, I always had Honda's and was actually going to buy the Honda van. Though I decided to wait to see the Pilot since it was coming out that week. It's just my family needs. Everywhere I go people ask me about it. I think I might of sold a few on my own. I've been in parking lots showing how the third seat works to people. My kids call it the "White Beauty" Thanks
Excellent SUV & solution to wind noise!
Love it. Handles like a car. Tight steering, quiet interior, fantastic visibility. RELIABLE! I've read some issues regarding a "howling" and wind noise. If you have this problem and have cross rails on the roofrack, then here is your solution: http://www.hondasuv.com/pilot/viewtopic .php?t=25 Mine too were mounted backwards. Once switched, the problem was gone. The most quiet SUV I have ever driven.
Excellent Ride!
I had a ford explorer before but the Honda Pilot is better by far. It has more room and it rides smoothly. I am so glad I bought this car.
Just picked mine up
I just picked up my 2004 Honda Pilot EX with cloth interior. What a quality SUV the cloth seat are the best I've seen yet from Honda and I've owned two others. Very comfortable double stiched seams with a great gray color. Overall I'm impressed with the entire package lots of nice features you can tell honda did there homework before releasing this SUV.
Fairly satisfied
Biggest disappointment> no auto door lock when put in gear. -No unlock from inside with door handle, have to hunt around for poorly placed, badly situated lock/unlock button. Seat adjustments seem to revert to a setting unlike previous setting -Poor gas milage. -Ac instructions vague and confusing. -Rear (heavy) door is unassisted & cumbersome
I love this thing
What a cool car. I wanted a 3 row of seat mid-size SUV and I chose this after looking at the Ford and GM vehicles. Love the cool interior and the smooth ride and the great fuel economy
GREAT SUV
GREAT TO DRIVE VERY RELIABLE
Love My Pilot
I have always wanted an SUV,much research we found the Pilot. The color Green/tan interior. Ride is so smooth, engine is so quiet. Three rows of seats offer such flexibility. The 60/40 split of both back seats are perfect for every occasion. We bought it and three days later left for road trip. We put 1500 miles on in the 9 days. It was perfect for the trip! The children were comfortable with the air control in the back seat/ activity tray between them. The tape/cd player played all kinds of music beautifully. My 8 yr old is selling the car to everyone he meets! In one month, we have not found anything we don't like. Love my Pilot!
Honda Pilot 2003
My favorite car I've ever owned.
excellent
We traded in our 1993 honda accord ex with 127000 miles on it we only had small problems with the car and sorry we had to move on. We tested the the honda pilot and loved it the only thing we wish we had was passenger side electric seats.......
Handling Woes
I bought this vehicle as a replacement for a much beloved mini-van but found that I do not like what I call the wobblies (basically not great handling on back twisty roads which my area is loaded with).I have been told by the dealership that this is normal with such a large heavy vehicle, I still don't like it.
Why buy a Lexus or Acura
The new Honda Pilot has more luxury and closer to a car-like ride than I expected. The Pilot is larger and wider than the Acura and Lexus SUV. Why pay more when you can get the quality and reliability in the Pilot. The third row seat is actually sized appropriate for use and not just a selling feature. When buying, look for a dealer with at least one year's President Award for service and sales. I purchased mine from Thompson Honda in Cartersville, GA and passed two other Honda dealers on the way. The sales personnel and management have character and integrity. This is my second purchase from Thompson.
so far so good
I have been a Ford buyer for ever. Had one bad experiance with Ford dealer and trader my Taurus for the Pilot. No problems so far.
Not what I expected
My wife and I just finished reviewing / test driving just about everything that you would look at when comparing mid- sized SUVs before deciding on either the Pilot or the Highlander. The Highlander outhandled the Pilot by a slight margin, but where the Highlander failed miserably (driver visibility, ergonomics, seating comfort, styling (God-awefull cheap looking fake wood in the Limitted model)), the Pilot excelled. And with performance margins virtually unnoticable between the two, it's an easy choice to go with the Pilots great interior vs. the Highlanders cheap Vitara-esque interior and comfort.
Best in class
I've owned several Hondas and an Acura. The first was a 1975 Honda Civic. The Pilot is a worthy successor. It's more comfortable than my top-of-the-line Acura, and it is the first Honda that allows me to sit up straight without my head touching the ceiling. The DVD player is well intergrated with the stereo and the 5 Star crash rating for an SUV makes this vehicle hard to beat.
Excellent SUV
We bought this vehicle last November and we absolutely love it. We drove north to Mont Tremblant in Canada from MA in February (pulling along our snowmobiles) and the ride was great. My brother had recently bought a Yukon and was sorry that he hadn't tried the Pilot first. We have had absolutely no issues with this vehicle to date (15k miles). The ride is just as smooth as the other Hondas I have owned. Our Pilot was imported from Canada so it has heated seats which is a big plus. Definitely worth the money (I only paid a few hundred dollars over invoice).
I LOVE MY PILOT
AFTER OWNING AND DRIVING MY PILOT FOR THE PAST 8 MONTHS, I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS. IT'S VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY AND I CAN HAUL LOTS OF LARGE ITEMS IN IT, SUCH AS FURNITURE. THIS PAST WEEKEND I HAD TWO SETS OF BUNK BEDS AND MATTRESSES IN IT AND THE DOOR STILL CLOSED! THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM I STILL NEED HELP WITH, BUT THEN I CAN'T SET THE VCR AT HOME YET EITHER!
Nice SUV
Difficult to find and tough to negotiate a deal. My area dealers all wanted at least $2500 over MSRP and it took a no trade deal to get a reasonable price. Fit and finish are typical high Honda quality. Overall, a great vehicle that is fun to drvie. We are pleased and believe this was a great replacment for our seven year old mini-van.
Pilot the Pilot
Without question this is the best riding vehicle we have ever been in. Roomy and comfortable for trips and hauling large items. Very easy to maintain the interior.
SUZ NEW TOY
I am a short lady, the sun visor does not come down far enough to keep the sun out of my eyes, have to stretch up. too much windshield and not enough sun shield. Dash could have been a little smaller and buttons (clock) could have been viewable for the smaller persons who will buy. Would have loved some contrast color on the body side molding. Would have loved a dark blue one.
Kid friendly
It is good looking, reliable, and versatile. The rear DVD system is great for the long drives necessary here in deep West Texas. The ruggedness is fine for our unpaved roads but smooth enough of a drive for having to travel to the mall..... 3 hours away. Good gas mileage, too.
I LOVE my Honda Pilot
The Pilot looks smaller on the outside than it actually is on the inside. We traded in a Dodge Durango that seated 7 passengers. Much to our surprise our Pilot seats 7 just as comfortably! The head room is also great as have much less in my Jeep Cherokee.
Seats to die from
I love the quality and solid feel of the car. The stereo sounds great. The seats are to die from. I am 55 and have owned many cars and a truck and these are by far the most uncomfortable seats I have ever had the displeasure to sit in. There is no place to put my feet, so they are usually skewed under the brake pedal or some other uncomfortable place. The front wheel well protrudes into the drivers and passengers compartment area. There is plenty of room otherwise and it looks big inside. The dealer treated me with kid gloves and the salesman even came out to my house to pick me up from my house to drive me to the dealership.
I love my Pilot
I traded in my 850 Volvo Wagon for the Pilot - I can't believe how much more I enjoy the car. The space is great! All three kids can bring a friend and watch a movie while I can listen to whatever I want. It has 32k miles and not a single proble! Great Car!
Honda Pilot: nothing is comparable
I love this vehicle, nothing is too bad about this great vehicle, I recommend it to everyone.
Excellent
The most sensible automobile I have ever owned and it's a Honda.
Honda Pilot
Honda Pilot is the best family SUV. It's a 4wd SUV for 30k.
Love my Ploit
All i can say its the best i have lots of vechiles and this is my favored
Look at this car
First Honda; now I know why their models are so popular. Good quality build; Honda knows how to incorporate the standard features you need. There are no options save for the DVD and navigation system (watch for dealer add- ons). My dealer had none; it was a good transaction for a good quality family car.
Fine SUV
Overall the Honda Pilot sure beats the 2000 Toyata SR% I traded in for it. Seating is excellant for tall drivers and the visibility is outstanding. Fast, smooth and handles great at Interstate speeds with pleanty of reserve for passing. Miliage is consistantly 20 aroound town and 23-25 on the Interstates. Very stable in high winds. Outstanding for the price.
What a SUV
What a SUV. Without a doubt it is the smoothest driving SUV on the market. I have had SUV's in the past that would never pass a gas station, this one will! It has all the room any family may need, and with the Honda quality it is the best. If your in the market in Virginia contact the people at Pohanka of Fredericksburg, I have never had a better purchase experience.
Highly favorable review of Pilot
The Pilot rides well for a medium sized SUV. It has good pickup when entering a freeway, and feels more like an Accord than a truck. However, the vehicle requires more stopping distance than an Accord (the laws of physics rule).
Honda does it again
This is a great vehicle. I test drove the Acura MDX(which was a good ride) but the Pilot feels more smoother and car-like than its luxury counter-part. Exceleration is great, gas mileage is good, and there's plenty of space for family trips. Great truck! I'm waiting for upgrades, or a full size Honda to compete with the Toyota Sequoia and Nissan (Pathfinder) Armada.
We like our Pilot
My family of four took delivery of our new Pilot on June 10 and we've put about 600 miles on it since. We had looked seriously at the Acura MDX and decided for the price of a used MDX we could get a new Pilot. The Pilot feels very similar to the MDX. I recently had to do some serious and quick steering to avoid a sports car that was trying to share the lane with me and I was very pleased with the Pilot's response. Fit and finish is quite good. There is plenty of room in the front for my 6.4 foot friend. Middle seats roomy as well. It's nimble around town. This is great alternative to minivans and huge SUVs.
1st time SUV Owner
The Honda Pilot is my very first SUV, but my 3rd Honda vehicle. I traded in my perfectly fine 2000 Accord because there is finally an affordable SUV on the market that rides like a car. A week after I purchased this vehicle, my wife and I drove over 2000 miles roundtrip and into the mountains for vacation. Would drive 5+ hours before stopping - very comfortable and loved the storage space. On this same trip we became the chaufeur of choice at a family reunion - not a problem - tons of room for passengers. I would highly recommend this SUV.
nice car. happy owner.
like the car a lot. have owned about 6 hondas now and they have all proven to be reliable and solid. like the interior styling a lot but still getting used to gear shift and backing this big thing up. 8^) being used to a 2000 accord, great outdoor vehicle. rode nicely over field and bumps. liked my salesman, didn't care for the "sales manager". agreed to the deal then said they couldn't do it but then changed their mind again as my wife and i were 2 feet from the exit. typical stupid and insulting sales tactics. no fault of Honda though.
I can't believe this oversight!
Definately a quality vehicle! Good buy compared to luxury SUVs. Comfortable, spacious, good ride, etc. THERE ARE BUGS!! SEE BELOW!
Great Car
Rides great, suffiect power, lots of cargo room. Handles well for minor offroad challanges
