Nice but could be better
I like the Pilot very much, but it suffers from "un-Honda-like" interior fit/finish problems. Door sills don't seat properly, rear AC vents easily fall out of position, edge of rear headcover is exposed and not covered by it's trim moulding, front drivers door window seal makes annoying noise.
Great SUV!!!
We have had this Pilot for only 2 weeks and we have already put 2,000 miles on it. It drives like a dream and the seats are so comfortable and it is so much more quiet than our previous SUV. We drove for 8 hours to Gulf Shores, Al and I was not worn out when we got there! The gas mileage is already better than our old Mountaineer and it is only going to get better. Paid sticker for it and had leather, rubber floormats, foglights added. Love this SUV!!

AWSOME
I love this thing. The day after I got it I had to pull an Explorer out of the mud.
Honest Pilot Review
Well my wife got her PILOT. OK 34K$ for a honda, but thats what she wanted. Sure its a nice well made SUV, but 34K$ It rides nice and soft, turns nice, breaks are OK, engine has a lack of low end, ok after you hit 25mph. Basicly a large 4x4 mini van. My new 2003 5.4 expedition gets the same mpg go figure.
g.m. needs to learn from this one
i had enough of general motors build quailty on my suburban(tranny gave out at 50k. we went to look at the hondas and were impressed. the test drive was what did it. we put it through the paces in the dirt and everything. when we were done we pulled into the back lot next to all the pilots and he said take a pick. the whole buying senario was a pleasurable experience(did i say thay that?)
From a truck-based to a car-based SUV
Having driven a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for three years, the transition to the Pilot was easy and welcome. The ride is much more comfortable and the cabin noise is considerably less and the pick-up is great. The cargo space is far superior and since I don't tow a boat, the comparison to US SUVs puts the Pilot ahead in my case.
Happy in a Honda
So far, we have been very happy with our Honda. We have taken one long trip (2600 miles)that was very comfortable. We love the size of the vehicle for everything from taking trips to hauling groceries. We have two children in car seats and when needed, mom has room to comfortably sit between them. The stereo sounds great! Overall, we could not have asked for more in a vehicle.
Quality SUV
My last 2 vehicles were Jeep Grand Cherokees. There's no comparison when it comes to the quality of construction and sophistication of engineering that went into the design of the Pilot. You can tell when you close the door, operate the controls, and drive it how much better the Honda is compared to the Jeep.
Honda=Quality
exterior styling could be better, always putting gas
awesome
the best suv in the world
pilot - best suv available
we absolutely love this vehicle - it is as comfortable to drive as our cadillac - roomy and sporty.
great suv
I have been a Honda owner since 1980. This SUV feels like I am driving a regular sedan. I have traveled between Miami Fl. and Phila., Pa 3 times this year and this car has made the trip a joy.
2003 Pilot Review
Delivered 6/8/2002. Black exterior, gray leather, navigation system, back- up camera, chrome bumper cladding, front bumper cover with foglights, and added aftermarket 8inch DVD system. Nicest driving vehicle I've owned, comfortable. Plenty of power, turns like a car, very quite interior. Third row small but functional. Excellent fit and finish. Like the looks with added front bumper covers more than the MDX.
pilot
this is an suv thats great for the kids. lots of cargo space and a dvd player to keep them entertained.
2003 carpool truck
I am very happy with my pilot. I have 3 kids and many carpools to deal with. I feel very safe in it and enjoy driving it very much. I like the fact that I am up higher than a car on the road.Except for a couple of issues such as the front passenger seat isnt electric, and I would have liked a memory button for the drivers seat, I am very happy with its design.
Great Truck
Paid right at MSRP with a lot of haggling between 3 dealerships on the last day of the month. Love the truck. Love the room. I didn't need the towing ability, I just needed the space. Rides great, is quiet and handles just fine. Hwy and city driving is very comfortable. Quality craftmanship. Even the plastics don't appear to be cheap.
Beyond Luxury Class...Best SUV Yet.
It seems like Honda didn't spare anything. We traded in a Lexus for this Pilot and I was worried about loosing some luxury comforts...This Pilot is much more than my Lexus. Better audio (much better sub-woofer), DVD, third row seating, more cargo, great interior design, plenty of storage, etc...for much less.
Honda Pilot
The Pilot is fun to drive. It is zippy and easy to handle.
Can't Be Beat
Pilot is the only choice when considering mid-size SUV's. Compared to the Acura MDX, any domestic SUV or even the BMW and Volvo, the Pilot holds its own and the price beats the competition by a landslide. When asked, no other dealership could sell me on why their more expensive SUV's were better than the Pilot. Extremely roomy, well equipped, stylish - what more do you want?
Jerry's Redrox Pilot
I traded in a "00 Town&Country LTD AWD and have never looked back. Although the T&C had more people room it lacked the power to pull my 19' boat. This Pilot is roomy , powerful and very comfortable. The build quality is excellent and a joy to own. GM, Chrysler and Ford can stick their 0% incentives where the sun don't shine. The right choice is a quality vehicle that will have some trade in value when it's time to replace it.
Nice Car
They should give you the 6 CD changer standard. Other than that a fun ride.
Great bang for your buck!
I, too, almost purchased a Highlander, until my husband begged me to look at and test drive the Pilot. I was immediately in love. The space inside this SUV is amazing. It is much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside ... and the seats are very comfortable (love the leather). Being new parents, we really digged the DVD, and figured it would come in handy on long road trips with the kiddos.
Pilot Proud
Our primary purpose in choosing the Pilot was for space and affordability. It satisfies his desire for a truck and the families need for a van, while I get to have fun driving it! The Pilot handles well-I was able to travel out of a muddy fairground too. We recently had to sleep in it when traveling and all 6 of us managed to sleep well. We have had room for the mower and yard sale purchases. The kids friends love to ride in it too.
satisfied
A/C controls do not agree with the owners manual. Driver needs to manually turn of a/c in rear compartment.
Transitioning from Car to SUV
My last car was a 2000 Acura TL and it was big transition going from a sporty car to an SUV. The Pilot has the same engine as the TL (V-6 V-tech), so the handling is about the same. Nothing exciting about the exterior, but it is deceiving. The interior is surprisingly big and 3rd row is actually comfortable. The seats all fold with ease. On average I'm getting 14mpg, the suggested mpg was listed at 17. Great family truck, my husband has a Suburban and he now prefers driving the Pilot. The stereo system is actually great for an SUV also.
Perfect Fit
We have been in our SageBrush Pearl EXL- RES for about 2 months now and I can honestly say that I like it more now than I did when we brought it home. Sure, there are a few things that could be different. Overall, it is the best vehicle I have owned. Only time will tell if the reliability to stay solid. I am betting on Honda and I have rarely been dissapointed in the past. The car gets great gas mileage (in comparison to other SUVs) looks stylish but I am comparing it to my Chevy Blazer. The Rear Entertainment System has exceeded my expectations - it is VERY versatile. I am quite happy with this choice.
The Pilot is great!
This is a fantastic vehicle! I shopped many SUV's over a 3 month period and the Pilot was the best vehicle for the price - and worth every dollar!
I love it
The Honda Pilot is a pleasure to drive, handle well around corners, and doesn't seem to be affected by the wind.
Another satisfied buyer
Have had the Pilot for 2 weeks. MSRP plus $500 (great deal for Hawaii!!) Great ride. Great comfort. Great looks. Great sound (DVD and music.) For those that complain about a non-sporty feel, go pay $8k more for an MDX or $18k more for a BMW. Sound vehicle. Decent gas milage (18.25 for first tank.)
If you don't have one, get one!!!!!!
We just bought a PILOT EX-L and we love it. We looked a the ACURA MDX, and it was the same SUV with a different body design that cost $6,000 more than the PILOT. We looked at the LEXUS LX450 and we were disappointed with the size. The PILOT is absolutely the best SUV in its class. I Love the body design, the interior and the performance. Take it from me, this SUV moves!!! I also love the room inside, it doesn't look bulky, like some of its competitors. Don't judge it until you test drive it. I test drove the majority of SUV's that are out there and the PILOT takes the cake. But the only way to find out is if you buy one!!!
Honda Pilot
I love this vehicle. It drives very smoothly. Handling is good and the overall opinion is that this is the SUV to own!!!
Awesome
I have had for two weeks and it is the best ride. I will never go back to a small car again.
Previous SUV owner
I owned an Explorer and then a Lexus RX300. After searching for a replacement for my RX 300 I came across the Pilot. My must important criteria was handling, safety, space and relaibility. I thought that going from a Lexus to Honda would be a step down, but I was wrong! Excellent vehicle. Same as the MDX for 6k discount!
2003 honda pilot
we love our pilot...from the smoothness on the road to the third row seat to keep our kids apart to the way the third row folds down flat when we need to go camping...its a great car
Honda Pilot
My husband bought my Pilot without me knowing it.I love this vehicle because it is very comfortable to drive and ride in with lots of room.We travel up and down the east coast frequently taking our kids and dog and always have room! Very attractive also!
Finally a Honda SUV
Paid 500 less than sticker on this one. Couldn't find an EX's and didn't want to order but the LX was nicely equiped. Added dealer security system and tinted glass. A pure joy to drive.
BEST SUV
We have owned 6 SUV's over the past 10 years and presently own 4.The Pilot is the BEST by far.Great handling, smooth ride, and excellent visability(no blind spots)In my opinion the seats are extremely comfortable.Great value for a well designed vehicle which will set the standard for future SUV's to be compared.
Honda quality does not disappoint!
This vehicle feels luxurious. It handles beautifully - it's responsive and comfortable, but safety and reliabiity were the selling points for me. Excellent quality and value.
My Honda Pilot
LX does not have as a standard feature the keyless door entry. I had this Honda product installed after the purchase. Automatic headlights would be helpful
Honda Pilot
One dealer would sell MSRP, but order to take 6 months. St. Johns Honda, Portland, Oregon. Nice dealership. Like the way they do business. Actually acquired from different dealer. Got options at dealer cost which brought cost back down (approx. to MSRP) and got car immediately.
Happy
very happy
Love My Honda Pilot!
When asked how I like my Pilot, I reply, "If I could put my arms around it and hug it, I would! A true pleasure to drive anywhere with all the comforts of home. I feel good knowing the quality behind a Honda product. Holds eight persons vs. the usual 5-7 in others. Ample cargo space. Our passengers enjoy the entertainment option on trips with an awesome sound system that replicates theater levels. Everyone who has driven it says, "I want a Pilot, too!
pilot
What a ride! another homerun for honda! quiet, smooth, roomy, fast,
Honda Pilot
This has got to be the best car Honda has ever sold. The ride is light-years a head of the 2000 Oddsey I owned and I thought it was good. This is a great SUV both in style and ride. A real enjoyment to drive.
It pays to shop around
The vehicle speaks for itself. Everything operates perfectly.Easy to operate. This vehicle replaces a 2000 Lexus RX 300. I feel the vehicle is alot more bang for the buck. The 2003 Lexus is bascily unchanged and will be a new model in 2004. I didn't want to get a car that would be outdated in six months. After shopping several dealerships and having them all trying to convince me that a discount was not going to happen. I held out and bought the Pilot w/res for a $1000.00 discount off of true MSRP and did not pay any dealer fees.
honda pilot
Very good SUV. love the 3 row seating. Very comfortable car-like ride. An excellent buy and great value when compared to competition
Proud Pilot Owner
It was a nice compromise between a sedan and a larger SUV for me. The ride is more car-like than many SUV's and the size is a little smaller than the Tahoe or Suburban or other large SUV's making it more manueverable and easier to park. The gas mileage is better than larger SUV's (approx. 20 mpg similar to the mini-van I had previously. With a seating capacity of 8, it holds more people than a mini-van when necessary. The 2 back seats collapse easily.
GOOD RELIABLE CAR
THIS IS A VERY RELIABLE AND CAPAPLE CAR FOR BOTH CITY AND OFF-ROAD USE. QUITE AND POWER ADEQUATE FOR ITS CLASS SIZE.
Disappointed in my 5th Honda
This is my 5th honda and it will likelybe my last! The quality has steadily declined. The leather seats sag and Honda is unconcerned! The interior plastic the use is so easily dented that the seat belt retractor has dented the door post repeatedly. There are numerous raddles and ticking noises. The gas mileage is around 16MPG which is below expectations. I think the changes the name on the old Honda quality to Acura and they don't care about their original brand!
Just picked mine up
I just picked up my 2004 Honda Pilot EX with cloth interior. What a quality SUV the cloth seat are the best I've seen yet from Honda and I've owned two others. Very comfortable double stiched seams with a great gray color. Overall I'm impressed with the entire package lots of nice features you can tell honda did there homework before releasing this SUV.
