Used 2022 Honda Passport Consumer Reviews
I bought a rental. Couldn't be happier.
I'm a motorcycle guy. Before I retired last year I commuted round-trip 50 miles on the LA freeways every day. The motorcycle made that actually fun. I guess I always valued mental health over safety. I decided to get an SUV last year, and my desire was to minimize the possibility of buyer remorse. So I looked for the best value in a reliable SUV with AWD. I noticed Enterprise Car Sales had a lot of good looking well maintained vehicles on their website and one day a white 2022 Passport Elite appeared. For some reason it looked great to me. I read all the reviews. Bought it. It had 37,000 miles on it and the price was $33,000. It's now 8 months later. My wife has a 2019 Lexus RX350 2WD. When I drove her around in the Passport she admitted its navigation system and touch screen is way better than the Lexus. The Passport is much roomier, but also somewhat taller and wider and has more road noise. It drives a little bit like a truck. But the engine is actually quieter than the RX350. The sound system is great. At my age (66) I play quiet music and it sounds really great. The sound deadening material Honda stuffed in the vehicle works well. After 3 months some warning lights appeared telling me 4 maintenance items were needed - oil, rear differential, transmission, transfer case. So I thought, well, I'm retired, now I get to go to work again. I found all the different Honda fluids and miscellaneous tools I didn't already own on eBay. I was worried if I didn't do the ATF fluid replacement just right the car would die. Anyway, it was easier than all the warnings I read made it sound. The key tool was a $10 fluid transfer pump that allowed me to fill all the 3 different fluids perfectly without making a giant mess. And there was enough room under the Passport I could slide under and do all the work without putting it up on jack stands. So all the warning lights are gone, the thing is still running perfectly, and I couldn't be happier. I have a beautiful SUV that looks and runs new for less than 50% of the price of a new vehicle. I'm saving myself a lot of money, time and aggravation with DIY maintenance. I have to credit the Honda engineers for smart design and excellent build quality all around. Oh one more thing. The AWD system is cool. I leave it in "normal" mode all the time after I figured out the "snow/sand/mud" modes actually disable traction control, which, OK, makes sense I guess if you're driving on a beach. The "normal" mode makes it easy for me to get into my garage which requires traveling in reverse up a very steep winding driveway. It does that no sweat, leaving no tire marks on the concrete. Honda Passport. Amazing vehicle.
