197K and going strong

I bought my Passport from the original owner in 2005 with 62,000 on it. Paid $4,200 for it. It had the standard fuel gauge problem, but nothing else. I've had to drop some money in it from time to time; A/C compressor and Alternator most recently, a valve in the tranny a couple of years ago a fan motor and fan switch. It does drink the oil like they say (I wonder where it goes), I've also put some joints and bushings in the suspension but for the money look how many miles I've gotten out of it. Sure beats making a car payment, and it sure does well in the snow. I'm shooting for 300K, I bet I see it.

Well we bought our passport at 6 years old and it seemed to be a nice car. it was valued at $12,000 and we brought them down to $9,000. After 4 days the transmission went out. Then after 6 months the transmission was not working right again. we waited a year to get the money to get a new one. It is acting up again! the windshield wiper motors and linkage have been replaced multiple times. The car does have power when you need it. 4 wheel drive works great when transmission is working. Love to drive it.

Purchased SUV from dealer with warranty in 08/07. Engine died 01/08 with 74,000 miles. Now I find out why this SUV is no longer made. Engine eats oil, sounds like truck and terrible gas mileage.

Bought my Passport used with a full warranty, 2 years old and 13K miles on it for 7,000 off list! It has problems now 7 years later, but what's new about that? It has had for several years a bad sensor in the gas tank so fuel gauge does not work. Costs $350 at the dealer to get it fixed so never fixed it! Same sensor also makes the check engine light stay on. One problem, cost $1400 to fix. Bad wiring from the factory got installed in some of these vehicles and insulation came off, so had to have entire wiring harness dealer replaced. That was the ONLY problem. Never has let me down..always starts and runs. Normal maintenance. Strong engine and transmission. Good air conditioning!

My grandma bought this car used in 2008, and I inherited it in 2011. We had to replace the transmission in 2009, then it worked fine. More recently, in the past two years, the air has quit working and due to the poor road conditions and salt in the harsh winters of wonderful Michigan, I've had several problems with the wheel bearings, fuses, axle, struts, shocks and rims. I know it sounds like a lot, but aside from the AC, they were due to very poorly maintained roads. Otherwise it's been a great, reliable car considering the miles I've put on it, and I'll be sad to see it go in a couple of months.

Bought the car new and have driven it over 150,000 miles with very little trouble. Always starts. Was never stranded. Four wheel drive is very good. I am replacing it soon, but have enjoyed it for over six years.

I have heard numerous horror stories that are so similar to the problems I've been having my Passport. Lots of other owners have reported problems with a sporatic gas gauge, non- functioning intermitten wiper setting, ERG valve trouble, and oil that seems to rapidly dissappear mysteriously.

The ride is hard but that's because it's based on a truck platform from Isuzu, not a civic from Honda. If you want a decent cheap SUV get one of these, but get it checked out first. If you want a cushy ride, get a CR-V or RAV-4 or some other CarUV. If you want great gas mileage, buy a civic hybrid.

I love this car. I bought it in 2005 and it has been awesome ever since. We have had to clean the EGR valve, which is a common problem, but if you just blow out the passage you don't have to replace the whole valve. Aside from a few other minor problems (it was a used car) this has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have had. Very sad to get rid of it, but its time to move on to a Mini Van.

2000 Honda passport and ethanol gas

Do not mix, ever since they changed the gas to having ethanol in it my Honda dies on me and stalls like crazy and I read in the owners manual that it says not to run methanol or ethanol in it otherwise it will have mechanical malfunctions. I do not recommend getting this vehicle since they are changing the gas to having ethanol in the gas. But all around besides that problem I like it a lot but with all the problems I think I am gonna get rid of it. Do not buy it!

I had very limited time to but a car and the Honda Passport seemed like the best choice at the dealership. I drove it for a year (it had 56K miles when I bought it) without a single problem. Then I started having trouble with it.In the past year, I have had the battery (which was new when I bought it), the alternator, the starter replaced. I have put two transmissions in it, both within a three week period, Today it is at the shop because it almost exploded last night and died on the side of the road. Thank goodness I still have 1000 miles left on the warranty, that gives me enough time to find someone to buy it!

I have owned my Passport for 5 years now and it has been great in the Colorado snow with upgraded tires. Only problems are the fuel pump, gas mileage, and the mysterious oil draining to never-never land. I also like how roomy it is - I am 6'6". Other than that it is great has decent power.

All I can say is do everything you can to avoid having a front end collision with this vehicle. The bumper and hood must be made of tin foil the way they fold up in a low impact collision. We rear ended another car at less than 10 miles per hour and sustained more than $5,000 in damage. The hood folded up like a taco. We're selling this vehicle based on saftey issues.

Rodeo in Disguise

So far, I've loved this truck. Got a good deal on a used one from Car Max. It's size is big enough to seat 5 comfortably but not too big to fit in the garage. It is an Isuzu Rodeo so I don't understand how this could rate so poorly when the Rodeo rates better than average. Gas mileage could improve but that can also be worked out with minor upgrades to your engine oil, spark plugs and air filter (and a "Tornado"). Pick up is not apparent until you really need it and then it gets up and goes. Overall a very nice truck.

The Honda Passport is a great looking SUV that also has good road manners and excellent engine power. My model is the EX 2 wheel drive with the CD changer, two-tone paint and leather. We enjoy it alot and recommend it to prospective shoppers as a great value in the preowned market. We bought it used and have not any problems with it.

For the last 11 months my vehicle rattles and then dies when you accelerate at red lights and stop signs. I have taken it in to a honda dealership but they cant find the problem. They thought it could be the fuel filter and pump and I had that changed and it didnt help.

This vehicle obviously does not have the same level of craftsmanship as other members of the Honda line (it's a Rodeo). While the exterior is attractive, the inside is cheap, the ride is excessively soft, and gas mileage is not good. With 4WD off the back end really wants to step around on me during acceleration. On the plus side I have not had any mechanical problems in three years and 20k miles. However, I am selling it and getting a Pilot (a true Honda).

This is an Isuzu, not a true Honda. Although an above-average, solid SUV, the quality is not quite up to the usual Honda standards. The ride is very truck-like and rough, cornering unstable, fuel economy is just ok (I've averaged 18 mpg). All said, it's been an all-right vehicle. I'm looking to trade it in for a CR-V, which is what I should have gotten in the first place.

I read your review of the Passport 2000 but fell in love with this car the moment I drove it. I'm 55 and 5'4". I slide in and out of it like a CD, the seat fits me like a kid glove and the view is marvelous. I'm not going to go into the wilderness so none of that matters. I find it drives very well around town and flies on the freeway. I feel like 25 again! As a Honda Accord owner of 10 years I say this Passport deserves the H on its hood even though it's an Isuzu in disguise.

I bought a MY2000 in 2014 with about 60k miles on it. It now has 187k miles on it. It's been a reliable vehicle. This is a no frills, analog, functional SUV. It doesn't ride particularly well (I'm ok with that), it is a body on frame vehicle so it has more of a truck feel. It's been solid in the snow. Nothing sophisticated. Simple controls. No screens or arrays of buttons. Just simple. It uses a lot of oil now (in spite of frequent oil and filter changes) and is near the end of its useful life. Too bad because the simplicity of cars of this era just do not exist anymore.

From day one the vehicle performed poorly, breaks down repeatadly and is totally unreliable. What is really unsettlich is the Honda Dealership that whenever something breaks ,it's not in Stock and o well its not a Honda per say. I have spend Tausands on repairs and upkeep and i will not again buy another Honda Product. I owed 4 of them without any Problems , this is the last one.

I having no problem of my passport which I bought 2/2000, truck is very reliable but only think I do not like gas mileage even it say 16/20 but roughly I got city/hwy mix about 14-15. Size wise it is perfect for city Parallel parking because it does not take large space.
