Great driving van

We love our new Honda. We have owned three Hondas; 2000,2011, & now 2018. This is a great family car; it can hold 8 people & carry lots of luggage. The ECO gives great gas mileage. Entertainment technology offers a full range of accessible items for all passengers. Shop around for pricing; use the internet to find best pricing in your surrounding area.

Jury's still out...

Love the looks, for a mini-van, of course, for the new design. The comfort is there for the most part. For a $45k car, however, they could have done a better job in terms of craftsmanship... I am not referring only to the materials, but in the putting-it-together sense. Also, the rear camera is the cheapest one I've seen... they put magnesium in this thing, but decided to skip on a good quality rear camera? Why, Honda? Why? Even if it jacked up the price by couple of hundred bucks, that would have been better than the cheap'O rear view camera you chose; shame. Oh and the other thing, the rattling in the panels is starting to creep up (had it on a new 2016 Prius, too, so I guess this is the new new with new cars.) The jury's still out, so we'll see how it goes. As another industry review pundit stated, wait a bit before jumping on a newly redesigned vehicle.

Negitaves are: Removal of the second row seats does not give you a flat floor. The mounting platforms are still sticking up above the floor of the van. Rear air vents are rear firing from the sides and may not provide enough air to rear of van. Steering is dampened a little too much at highway speeds. Lane keeping assist is a joke. Cruise control has a lot of trouble matching the speed of some cars and sometimes it will slow down for no reason ( no car detected). Sometimes collision avoidance will activate for no reason and there is no way to permanently turn that off. You have to turn it off each time the car is started. The charging system and battery Is not right. Battery would not start car 3 times during first 12 months (Arkansas temperatures and nothing left on. Parked in warm garage) Battery had to be replaced after 18 months. New battery died after 6 months & Honda dealer said there was no warranty on the replacement. Rear suspension isn’t holding up well with a load. The transmission hasn’t broken even though it randomly shifts rough or makes a clank when shifting. No problems from the engine. No problems from the rest of the van.

Go for Touring

We bought 2018 Honda Odyssey Touring as we are ready to welcome our first child! After reading the review by one of the owner that EX-L drive is noisy I compared both EXL and Touring and really agree with her that I found Touring quieter and much better drive! If you want better drive and can spend few thousands more go for Touring or all the way to Elite if you want cooling/AC for front seats. So far we are enjoying the ride and safety features (Honda Sensing) that comes with it. We faced Bluetooth, remote starter issues that were fixed by dealer. They said it was some system issue. Wish you the best in your family car hunt! I do recommend Honda Odyssey but higher trim if you want better and quieter drive!

Do not buy this...

I have 3 small children and wanted a reliable family car. After leading this car for almost 2.5 months I've learned it is not family friendly. 1.). Young children cannot strap themselves into their car seats, therefore you have to climb into the van. The drivers side has a hard plastic board on the floor so it bruises my knees daily. The passenger side has a narrow path to secure the right rear seat which again you have to climb into the van to do. 2.). So far the following systems have failed or have no fix: rear climate control screen sporadically goes blank; rear speakers are not an option for the radio; anti-theft system alarms & rear cabin control failures are received at random; there is no menu screen for rear entertainment options so you have to use the remote & reach backwards over your head to select a DVD option; the idlestop no longer works. 3.). When calls or text messages come into your phone when connected to CarPlay it disables the rear entertainment and radio, however if you decline to read or answer, it doesn't turn the systems back on. 4.). If you have an iPhone the charging pad doesn't work, the CarPlay system doesn't work unless you buy a separate $50 cable. The HMDI plug is located in the most inaccessible location for a driver or front seat passenger. Overall this car misses the mark on design, electronics & being user friendly.

Tire Eater

Best looking van out there. Comfortable, great running but scary in the rain. BIG PROBLEM, only 36K miles on the van and on my third set of tires. After eating through the first two sets of tires, finally realized that the safety features that are suppose to help you, also "scrub" the tires and ruin the tread. The feature that alerts you that you are going out of your lane and shakes the steering wheel, allows the tires to scrub across the payment and wear the tread off. I turned off this feature but front end still loose. New tires have 4K miles on them and even with the lane departure system off, the tread is wearing down. Same model tires on my last van (Toyota Seinna) lasted 75K. Honda dealer says nothing they can do about it. VERY DANGEROUS IN RAIN with this front end problem.

I've owned four Odysseys, but went to a 2014 Sienna due to Toyota being willing to deal and thinking that the van would be an equivalent. How very wrong I was! No comparison! The Odyssey, is quiet, fuel economy is excellent (20% better all around than the previous Odysseys and the Sienna), the transmission is smooth, smooth, smooth (The 1999, 2004 and 2009 Odyssey shifts were terrible), and I really like the standard equipment on the EXL. Great driving aids and so comfortable and easy to drive. I have driven and owned many different vehicle in my 81 year old life and nothing I've ever driven drives as easy as this 2018 Odyssey. I expect that it will have the Honda reliability, but have only 2500 miles on this one. No defects of any sort found at this time. I do not understand the occasional bad reviews I have seen here. None of those problems exist on my van. I had a air conditioning failure while on a trip to Texas. It turned out to be a known factory defect. The dealer there took my vehicle right in and fixed it. The repair takes 3 to 4 hours. The side chrome trim along the side windows bottom could use some tweaking to get the ends to line up better. The acceleration curve is mushy in ECO so I tend to switch it out when driving in town.

We love our Odyssey!

We have owned our 2018 Odyssey for 1 year and absolutely love it! I’m disappointed to see some of the negative reviews here... our experience has been only positive. We also had a 2004 Odyssey with 200,000 miles on it and still running. We decided on the new Odyssey due to the stunning redesign and updates. No regrets on our purchase. We’ve had no issues , rides like a dream. Acceleration is amazing and I truly feel safe when I drive.... plus the Odyssey outperformed the Sienna in crash tests. We have three growing teenage boys and moved up (we were driving a mid size SUV- Highlander to exact). We looked at the Sienna but were so bored with the outdated design. We have had no issue with the electronic system and Apple car play works like a dream! You won’t regret this purchase!

Rear Entertainment System FAIL!

I bought the 2018 to replace a 2006 Odyssey. I am normally impressed with Honda's quality. However, I would not recommend buying this car if you have a family. We bought it specifically for family road trips. The Rear Entertainment System failed within a month. This made the 4 hour road trip for the solar eclipse painful!! Took it back to the dealer, they said Honda knows about the problem, but there is no fix right now. Until this is fixed, do not buy this vehicle if you have young kids. Unless you want to pay additional money for an after market DVD player.

Sweating the small stuff

No windshield washer indicator when fluid is low except on Canadian versions! Really, I live in Maine. No flat floor due to the unnecessary track system on the second row and a raised third seat platform. Undercoat of the exterior paint must be white because every scratch shows up. Vacuum hose is too short to reach the front floor of the vehicle. No interior LED lights. No way to download load CDs, like the t&c has. Blinkers are not LED. They look like previous model turn signals. Backup lights are not bright enough. Second rows seats are very cumbersome and do not good down onto their seat like previous models. To get a heated steering wheel you have to buy the Elite . Remote start has to be in close proximity and there is no indication that it has started, ie: parking lights on or anything like that. Otherwise, the quietest van I have ever driven.

4 kids, 2 with car seats, need that 3rd row. Previously got Toyota siennas, decided to try the odyssey because i really like the safety features... loved the van, but at 40k miles all the idiot lights are going on. supposedly it needs new fuel injectors... because I used Wal-Mart gas a few times. Apparently Wal-Mart gas will mess up your engine... I kept up all maintainence with dealer. It is 4000 miles outside the warrantee and I am being told 1400 plus to repair. Not willing to guarantee that is even the problem. Honda corporate was not helpful at all. I am sorry I did not stick with Toyota. Too early to have this major of an issue.

Overall the van is good. I like the safety features. However with the new seat system it raised the height of the seats making it difficult for my 5’ tall wife to get in and out of the passenger seat. I also do not like the nine speed automatic transmission. It has a very strange noise at low speeds when starting out. The other thing I found very annoying is the automatic headlight high beam. We drove back last night in the rain and the lights kept going into high beam for no apparent reason. This I am sure annoyed the cars both in front of me as well as those on coming cars. If I had to rate this Honda Odyssey verses our 2008 Odyssey, I would say I would rather be driving my 2008!

Lots of new tech features over previous model. The darn thing drives itself if there are road center and shoulder lines. Very nice. Ride seems to also be quieter than the '16 model, larger wheels probably help as well. Good value, especially with all the new gadgets. Priced about the same as previous model with many additional features.

I have owned this 2018 Odyssey EX L. Minor issues so far, but, first new car that have had so many recalls in only 3 years of ownership. I have been an avid Toyota fan since I was a teenager and decided to give new Hondas a try. Between 16k-18k miles, started having steering wheel vibration when braking at speeds above 30 mph. Brought it to be checked out at the dealership I bought it from. They are charging $175 to turn the front rotors. I still have my 2014 Toyota Venza which is driven the same way odyssey is driven, with 65k miles and still haven't done anything with the rotor and on original pads. I bought the wife a 2020 Pilot and at less than 3700 miles, I already have a the same steering wheel vibration when braking at speeds above 30 mph. Dealer turned the rotors. It only shows that there is a material issue here. Jerky shifts from 1st to second gear, intermittently. Otherwise, van handles well, comfortable, excellent gas mileage with good cargo space. Honda should look at the brake rotor suppliers and they should stand behind they product if issues like these are encountered by new car buyers if care has less than 36k miles

We have had numerous failers on our Odyssey EX. This will be the last Honda I purchase. We have been to the dealer more than 20 times with issues. Many times Honda would refuse to correct the issues until we provided them video of the occurances. The Infotainment, transmission, door closures, etc. Honda replaced the side sliding door latches under recall and we had many more issues after that work, than we did before. Turned out they replaced the latches with “old” inventory, since they did not have the proper replacement latches available. It was a huge battle with Honda Mediation to correct this. Honda did not want to stand behind their product or warranty. I pitty anyone else that had to go through what we did.

We purchased our Van in Nov. of 17. All was good for a year. Then the problems can trickling down. First the fob stopped unlocking the doors, Then the doors would open on their own ( was recalled and fixed, both doors) . Third the front seats developed squeaks ( still haven't fixed - Honda will not approve the seat replacements), fourth the injectors have gone bad... The technician said the new injectors will be better then the old ones since they will come from the factory?! What ! Didnt the original ones come from the factory when it was built? An now finally just got a another recall that the transmission can fail sending it into park while driving, supposedly a sofware issue. We paid close to $45k for our van. But now just more then a year later all these issues. We are done with honda, its to bad this is our 4th honda. But now where going to buy a pirus.

I've had each of the last three generations of Odysseys, as well as a previous generation Sienna. In addition, I rent Siennas all the time for work and really like them. However, the new Odyssey blows them away. I was looking for a used Sienna or Odyssey to replace my 2011 EXL. However, resale values being exceptionally high, I was able to get into a new one for a couple thousand more. I'm super-impressed with the upgrades over the last generation. Specifically, the safety suite is incredible. I didn't really think I needed it at first, but it is done so well that it isn't obtrusive and truly an asset. The ride quality is superb. It is quieter than either the old Odysseys or Siennas, but somehow feels connected to the road (the Sienna is a little too plush). The engine is responsive. If you floor it, you can actually squeal the tires. Not exactly normal minivan use- but fun nonetheless. The interior was beyond my expectations. Yes, the middle seats aren't easy to take out. However, we only take the middle seats out once or twice a year. I'm cool with the trade off of getting big comfortable seats instead of stow and go. We were given a town and country as a rental and the middle seats were flimsy and uncomfortable. The 2 axis sliding feature is great and helps manage the relationships of my kids. Again, I'm super impressed. This is the first vehicle purchase I can remember where I haven't had any buyer's remorse.

Traded a 2007 for the 2018. The 2007 was more comfortable inside and definitely had more cargo space. For example, the second row seats folded almost horizontally on the 2007 and thus one could store things on top of them if needed. Not so with the 2018. They fold to maybe 45 degree angle at best. The second row removable seat had a nice storage compartment in the 2007. In the 2018 it has to be removed and put in the basement. Seating is comfortable but not quite at the level of the earlier model. Electronic aids are useful and work well. The interval cruise control is the best. What happened to the nice change holders from 2007? The center console is deep and holds a lot but good luck digging stuff out. May sound complaining but we really like the Odyssey and would buy/lease another. We enjoy traveling in it. We feel safe.

Update after 3 years: Vehicle is still good, a number of recalls and failures which have been covered by warranty. A little worried about future repairs out of warranty. Original Review: Really like the Odyssey, it drives more like a car than a minivan. Only complaint is that the Climate Control cannot be in Auto mode while Recirculate is on. As a result have to choose between climate control and recirculate. If I choose the former, exhaust fumes enter the cabin, if I choose the latter, the glass fogs up. Also, the USB Audio can only read drives upto 16GB! Other than that, been happy with the vehicle.

I really wanted an upgrade in a car. I wanted the cabin to have decrease noise. I didn’t want to hear all this wind noise. I wanted leather seats, heated seats, Navigation and dvd. I also love the storage in this car. I really lucked out that it had low miles on it too. My kids were happy with our choice.

REAR AC AIRFLOW IS AWFUL FOR REAR FACING CARSEAT

Michael Anderson, 05/02/2019
2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan w/Navigation and Rear Entertainment System (3.5L 6cyl 9A)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful

We leased a 2016 Honda Odyssey, and we loved it. My wife really liked the newly refreshed look in 2018, so we ended our lease early, and got the 2018. Everything is pretty good in this vehicle and not much changed from 2016, but Honda made a major mistake with the rear air flow design. The old model vans had air vents on the roof, but Honda moved them to the pillar by the push-button for the automatic sliding doors. It has not even been hot yet (barely into the mid-80's) here in South Carolina, and every time we get our 1 year old out of the carseat, she is drenched in sweat. We were so disappointed and tried everything, but there is no way to get the air flow to the front of our daughter. Even our 2.5 year old that is forward facing complains that she has very little air flow. The other really annoying problem is that Honda moved the air conditioning motor for the rear ventilation to the front dash console. My wife and I cannot even talk, nor hear our daughters in the back ever because we have the vents in the back at the highest setting to give any sort of relief to the girls in the back. I called Honda, and stated that we were disappointed and would like to end our lease early. Their response? Ok, come drop it off and pay the remaining lease payments at that time. I was in shock. If it weren't for the good resale value of this vehicle, we would be screwed. Luckily with our down payment, terms, etc. on the lease, we can sell this car outright and break-even. This is such a major oversight, especially when vans are supposed to be for all-around comfort to all passengers. Lastly, Honda really needs to adjust the capabilities of the rear entertainment system. Unless you have your kids on headphones in the back, you cannot listen to music in the front and let the kids watch their movies in the back. It is not possible to tell a 1 and 2 year old to put on headphones, and to understand the volume levels to ensure they are not deafening themselves as a parent in the front. It only took a quick 4 hour drive to the beach to realize what an annoyance that was to only be able to listen to the girls watching Disney movies for the entire drive. The couple issues Honda missed the ball on here are pretty basic an obvious; so much so that I am actually shocked at the ignorance. We don't even like the look of the Sienna, but it looks like we are switching to a Toyota just to make sure our kids don't overheat in the back seat over the summer.

Unreliable - done with Honda’s

D Hartle, 01/02/2019
2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 9A)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful

I dealt with the back pain for weeks after getting the new Odyssey. The drivers seat is too long for my 5’2” height. The next issue was the back window not going up after using the fob to lower all the windows at the same time. It needed a new striker. I constantly hear many complaints about lack of ac in the back and low radio volume in the 2nd row. When running errands at Christmas time, the 3rd stop was too much for my 8 month old car. It would not start. The steering wheel locked. In the old vans, you wiggled the steering wheel while turning the key. There is no key in the 2018. The battery needed to be jumped and the reading was 90 CCAs (should be 550CCAs). Took it to the dealer, battery was fine, “I should not be making 3 stops only a mile apart.” So, 2 weeks later, I drove 30 minutes and parked turning the car off. I changed my mind and restarted the car but the battery was dead again. This time the dealer did a diagnostic test revealing a short in the starter. Now, 9 hours and 4 days without my new 8,500 mile car, I feel cheated. I bought a new car so I didn’t have to go to the dealer with issues. It also is slow to go on a hill from a stop. More like 0 to 20 in 6 seconds. Buyers remorse!

Isn't AWD and doesn't have a CD player, it's unfortunate because we still listen to CD's. Other than that.. love how it is spacious, balanced and doesn't feel like a mini van. Mini van drives very smooth.

Bought it during Happy Honda Days, but don't know if that was what helped us get it for nearly $4,000 below MSRP. This version of the car was the most logical, because it has all the bells and whistles at a cost-effective price point. To add ventilated seats and heated steering wheel would have cost about $6,000 more (for the Touring or Elite version), which is just not worth it. We just love this car; it seems almost human in the way it moves seats and mirrors for you when entering, backing up, and exiting the vehicle. The "automatic driving" controls that let it follow the car in front of you at a specified distance, automatically apply brakes if necessary, and stay within the lane are AWESOME features! Blind spot vehicle detection is excellent and very reassuring when changing lanes on the highway. The Forest Mist color is really great, too. By the way, we didn't pay for any extras like the $500 they would want for fabric and paint protection; we applied our own paint protection, a very good product that costs less than $40 for the kit.

Great Van, Need Better Front Seats!

New Hampshire Odyssey, 03/06/2018
2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 9A)
2 of 2 people found this review helpful

I really like our new 2018 Odyssey. Great infotainment in the front and so much room particularly when you have the 3rd row folded. 280 HP is great to have to accelerate out of situations and the steering is really tight and nice. I like the 2 memory settings for the driver a lot. I will say my one gripe that I have is the front seats... I am 6'3'' 275lbs and the seats are not deep/long enough to support my thighs properly and the width of the seat is not wide enough. I have noticed the door side bolster on the seat being pushed down as its a bit narrow. My wife who is 5'3'' 120lbs thinks they are very comfortable front seats. This is her car so that's fine. But on family trips I am always the one driving and for the men out there who are over 6'1 and have a bigger bottom, its noticeable. In comparison, I can drive my 2009 GMC Yukon all day long non stop and be 100% comfortable... after an hour to an hour and a half in the Odyssey, I feel it.

Interior, exterior and mechanical quality issues. Honda has really gone down on its quality. I purchased a 2018 minivan touring. Driver side sliding door is nothing but a problem. Two recalls have been done so far but the door still refuses to close. Dealer is asking service fee now for any additional work and honda customer service refused to help. Gear push buttons losing signs and now its hard to see which button is for drive. Park or reverse etc. Windshield was making squeaky sound which was later fixed. Honda is charging arm and leg for this van but the features are limited to elite only. Even though. Touring also cost a lot, i dont have cabin talk through speakers, wireless charging or some basic features like heated steering wheel. Such a shame.

13 months with the same problem. We have taken it to several dealerships and no one can fix it. Honda is "aware" of the problem and says for us to keep waiting until they resolve the issue. We are paying extra money to have features that don't work. We didn't get a rebate since they are high demand, if people only knew...Please make sure you test the entertainment system thoroughly before you leave the dealership. Take the headphones out of the bubble wrap and the take a DVD with you.

Coming from a 2012 Pilot, this van is is much more practical than my previous vehicles. This is my first mini van and I’m hooked. The Odyssey is my wife’s primary vehicle. UPDATE: Many electrical issues and transmission problems all before the warranty was out. This van left my family stranded multiple times. I sold the van while I could. I was a die hard Honda fan, but this purchase ruined it for me. I’m sticking with Toyota now.

We have had it one month and still getting used to it a bit, but generally love it so far. This is our second Honda Odyssey. The only two things that I've noticed so far is that going from 1st to 2nd gear it's not completely smooth. It doesn't really bother me but once you are past 2nd gear it's as smooth as can be which is why I've noticed a slight difference. The second thing is the entertainment system, when using XM radio, it will periodically jump to a station upon starting the car that I did not select (ex: Country or Korean Radio). I have found that I have to challenge myself to use the steering wheel controls as the touch panel your eyes get drawn to it longer than you probably want from the road to make selections. There are several features that you cannot engage in while driving & I understand the safety precautions driving this, but it is slightly frustrating.

This is a nice vehicle so far. We have only owned it for a week now, but we did experience a problem with the cabin watch and rear entertainment once. Plus, on the cabin talk the Touring can only talk over the headphones. The Elite can talk over the headphones and speakers. These vans are pricey though.

I've owned this vehicle for 2 months now. This vehicle is off the charts for getting the best bang for the buck. The exterior is styled well; the front end looks great while the rear end looks 'fat.' The interior is fantastic - you have to see it for yourself; my only 'ish' would be that the 2nd row slide 'further' back for rear facing car seats and the third row sit a little further back by a couple inches - this is pretty picky though. Fuel economy is what Honda advertises, so no surprises here. Vehicle does take a minute to cool down in the back if it's hot out, but no big deal. Then the 'RIDE;' in normal mode, this vehicle will merge onto the highway and pass other vehicle's with ease. The transmission glides through it's gears once you're out of 1st and 2nd - these gears can be a bit clunky. Cabin noise is minimal compared to most vehicles in its price range and size. My BIGGEST issue by a mile is simply the 'ride' on the highway. Every ripple in the road is transmitted into the cabin of the vehicle. You can feel 'everything' via a 'subtle' vibration in the floor board, to the steering wheel, and the seat. I had the car checked, and they re-balanced the car tires which helped some, but did not cure the issue. The fact is, this is how the vehicle rides, so I advise you to 'truly test drive this vehicle' and feel everything it transmits into the cabin. Take it on the highway for a good 5 minutes and drive down a boulevard where you're doing 40 to 50 mph. On a more positive note, put the vehicle in 'sport' mode, and it might be the fastest vehicle you've ever driven. It sprints to 60 effortlessly and with ease gliding through its gears with purpose. But again, under normal driving on a smooth road, you will feel that smooth road's ripples in its asphalt being transmitted into the cabin of your Odyssey. Maybe i'm being a bit harsh in this department, but it's definitely not the vehicles highlight.

Overall this minivan has turned out better than we thought. We needed something to haul a baby & a toddler and all their stuff around (stroller, toys, diapers, bottles, blankets, ... ) and our compact SUV wasn't cutting it anymore, esp. when you had to sit between the carseats to enjoy "stereo" crying. The car steers pretty smoothly, similar feel to our Subaru Forester. It has a lot of nice little perks, esp love Android Auto and all the charging ports. Very comfortable ride and even when you are sitting between the carseats, you don't feel wedged.

Purchased over priced mini van, first week of owning, sliding door wouldn’t close, car radio would not turn off even if car was not running. Brought vehicle for service they needed to replace the whole entertainment/Navigation main box. Still experiencing Static on radio, When Bluetooth is connected with your phone..if your in a store your call will still be in the car. Sliding doors take forever to close, when auto locking vehicle and walking away from car, your doors are still open. I programmed it in every way and nothing works. The idle shuts your car every 5 seconds. so you have to remember to turn it off and if you don’t you’ll be sweating on 100 degree weather because it shuts your air. Technology stinks hard to work on. You want to charge your phone. Good luck digging into the storage compartment to find the adapter. Stupid location to put it in. It doesn’t save gas at all. Don’t buy this minivan is horrible! would be trading it in for a GMC Yukon. Had it for 10 years never had an issue. I have more issues with this car the moment I bought it. I FINALLY GOT RID OFF AND TRADED THIS HONDA ODYSSEY IN 2018 AND BOUGHT A CHEVROLET 2019 TAHOE...WHAT A DIFFERENCE. EASY TECHNOLOGY TO WORK WITH YOU DON’T HAVE TO GOOGLE ON HOW TO WORK THINGS IN THE CAR LIKE YOU HAVE TO DO WITH HONDA. ALSO CAR DOESN’T HAVE THAT STUPID IDLE OF YOUR CAR SHUTTING OFF. I’LL SAYING AGAIN HONDA STINKS! DON’T BUY IT! PLEASE EDMUND DON’T SEND ME ANYMORE EMAILS ON CHANGING MY OPINION ON HONDA ODYSSEY 2018.. I’ll say it again it STINKS! ALSO IF YOU EVER HAVE AN ISSUE WITH YOUR VEHICLE AMERICAN HONDA WILL NOT BE THERE TO HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS, THEY’RE RUDE AND WILL TAKE FOREVER FOR THEM TO CALL YOU BACK. YOU WANT EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Fustrating issues with Elite

Have two issues with the minivan. These issues are happening in 2018 model since there is not much change between 2018 and 2019. There is very high probability that 2019 may also have this issue. 1) Van's speakers occasionally make ticking sounds for about 30 to 60 minutes. It also makes spark sounds when I try to unlock the door or when I release the brake after engine auto shutdown(elite feature). In total dealer has kept the vehicle for more than 35 days to fix this issue. 2) Van's A/C make a high pitch sound. Again Honda does not have a fix for this. My personal suggestion will be to not purchase this until Honda finds a fix for the above two issues.

Purchased a 2018 Odyssey LX for my wife, new. Coming from a Sienna, she found the car instantly familiar. We also test drove a Chrysler Pacifica LX, so I throw in some references to that. Likes on the Odyssey LX: 18 inch allow wheels standard. Dual zone climate control (front and rear) standard. Great ride. Cylinder management (can shut off some up to 3 cylinders while cruising on the highway) . Smooth shifting 9 speed auto transmission. Lots of well-designed storage. Well designed, intuitive controls. Rear view camera. Dislikes: Not to crazy about styling, kinda looks like a hearse. No blind spot warning. No frontal collision assist. Traditional lightbulbs instead of LED. Clunky, dated telematics package ( looks like something out of Battlestar Galactica) . The OEM Bridgestone tires were OK in the summer but marginal in the winter. Some top tier tires like Michelin or Continental woudl be better. The 2018 Pacifica L comes with steel wheels standard, and a similar but perhaps less proven power train. The ride seems less smooth and the 9 speed transmission is a bit more noticeable than the Odyssey's. But the interior of the Pacifica looks modern and upscale. E.g.: Black cloth seats with faux leather accents, look awesome. The seats are perhaps a bit less comfortable. Has modern telematics package and a huge touchscreen. It has projector style headlights although not HID. The controls are perhaps a bit unusual and needlessly different from the old-school, well-worn style. I liked them, but my wife struggled with finding where everything was. The Ody's base model radio has no CD, tape or dvd player, but it has a subwoofer... but can play mp3 or Apple format tunes from usb stick, so, for the tech savvy, that works well enough. The Pacifica showcases some cool and creative ideas, perhaps appealing to a younger geeky audience, and it could be had for $2K less than the Honda Ody LX, given some negotiation. We hear from friends who have Pacificas about unreliability (electrical), and so far had zero trouble with our Ody. I do my own maintenance, and notice it does not like heavier oil, tried 0w40 and run noisy. Had to swap it to 5w30. One suspect is the cylinder management, rumor has it that is why. A year later, still trouble free. We are missing the roof rack / rails. we used to have on our old Sienna. Getting an average 27 mpg using normal gas. (Mostly back-roads commuting), The engine runs a little bit noisy, esp. on startup. Tried a 0w40 oil, it runs even noisier with that, 5w30 synthetic works best so far. Doing a 7500mi oil and filter change routine using full synthetic oil (M-1), w Fram XG or Mobil-1 filter. I am reading the cylinder management system is hard on the oil, requires a specific viscosity. and maybe that is why the 0w40 oil did not work well. BTW we are finding the cylinder management system is not really useful, IMO it is just an extra complication. I wish I could turn it off..

I bought 2018 elite model in August 2018. Within two month all entertainment system stopped working.I bought this car because I have kids and I want them to have something like rear entertainment for long trip. But, no luck. Took car to dealer they install some part. Got car back. Use car only on weekend. Now display screen not turning all at all and staying blank. Took car again to dealer they install part.(had to leave with them for week because part is not in stock). Got car back again and now back to entertainment problem. Music stop playing automatically in between FM, USB,etc. Even on corner it shows phone is connected through Bluetooth. But when try to play music through phone message keep coming saying no phone connected. Had to send car again to dealer. Now they have to order same part they install initially but latest one with new manufacturing date. Waited for almost week and got news that truck carrying part involved in accident and part is not going to delivered. Total disappointment.Just had 3800 miles on car and very very dis appointed.

Too many issues- so we traded it after two years

This van was a disappointment overall for us. We had owned a 2004 Nissan Quest and a 2012 Nissan Quest before this and when a new Quest was not available, we thought we would go with a "reliable" Honda Odyssey. Wrong. The sliding doors were a nightmare. They wouldn't close right almost from the start. Then, add in some gravel dust base on our living on 1.5 miles of gravel to pavement, it only got worse. We could literally see gravel dust bellowing into our van around the slider door "seals." The doors acted up worse as time went on. Honda service was unable to resolve it. The final straw was a $480 O2 sensor filter thing that went out due to gravel dust and wasn't covered under warranty. On the positive side, the Hondas do hold their value so we ended up okay on the trade. We purchased a 2021 Hyundai Palisade and it was the BEST decision EVER for us! Wow! What an upgrade! Sorry, Honda, but your "perfect" van was not so perfect and needs some work.

Severe software and manufacturer problems. Our car stopped working altogether just nine months after being bought new. In an attempt to refuse responsibility, dealer outright lied that the Honda warranty does not cover the Odyssey's problems. We have always been a Honda family so our experience with the new Odyssey has been shocking just from the unbelievable decline in quality. This is the last Honda we ever buy due to the negligence in safety and software.

I used to worry that driving a minivan was going to be embarrassing. But after I purchased a 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L, I realized it's even more embarrassing to not drive one, while having to beg an indifferent service adviser to lend you a Hyundai Elantra because your van is in the shop again. So far this van has had two recalls (both for safety issues), a passenger sliding door that flew open while we were driving, and now a loud whining noise in 1st, 2nd gear and reverse that they say is a transmission issue, but Honda North America won't verify. The van has 11,000 miles on it, and has spent 12 days in the shop so far. Our Honda experience has been the worst of any car we've ever owned. Unreliable, with poor service to boot.

The best minivan on Planet Earth

Everything that you look for in a minivan is in Honda Odyssey, especially if you have a large family. Comfort and convinience it offers for everyone. Great for travel as it can accomodate your luggages and other stuff due to its cargo space. Better get this minivan if you want your life easier on your travels.

1. Driver seat always go back to the original position when engine is turned off-and come back to the memory position when engine start on next time. I think this is a unnecessary move what consume the space in the back-in front (where there is limited space already and block by handle) of 2nd row seat when you need it to get off/on the kids. 2. There is no storage by the 3rd row seats. 3. Need a lot of pressure to accelerate. 4. Overall height of the vehicle is also not comfortable enough to access the 3rd.

Excellent vehicle. Great ride, handling and performance which are the most important criteria to us. It also has allot of cargo space and the third row seats are comfortable and useful vs other minivans and SUV's. I do wish Honda had kept the right side camera to show you the right lane when changing lanes. Honda does not have a sensor on each side, but it will not go on till there is a vehicle very close. I feel they should have both: the sensor and the camera to make sure there is room and you are not cutting someone off. The GPS should also be able to order your saved destinations alphabetically, vs only by distance. Apple Car Play is excellent.

Watch if the alignment of the door. My odyssey has passenger side door mis-aligned. Ask the salesman if the gas meter has correct reading.

No compass. Really! We wrote a check for more than $41,000 to own a 2018 Odyssey minivan that Honda purposely put on the market with no compass, a simple tool standard in every decent vehicle since about the dawn of internal combustion. Shame on them. We wouldn't have bought this van if we had known it didn't have a compass. Some people writing online say Honda is manipulative, trying to force people to pay thousands more for the most expensive trims to get a simple, cheap feature found on every car but low-end fleet vehicles. Honda may be manipulative, or have no regard for customers, or just plain stupid. The people at my Honda dealership were as shocked as me at the absence of a compass. I would trade the moon roof, which I'll probably never open, or leather seats for a compass. I really wanted to feel good about owning a new minivan with many electronic and safety features, but now I simply seen a large gray machine in the garage with no compass. I'm sure Honda could retrofit this minivan to include a compass if they cared. In the meantime I'll use my old Boy Scout compass and wish I had bought a Toyota.
