Cool van!
This 2006 Touring is remarkably better than the 2000 Windstar SEL we previously had. And the price was only $1,000 more!
Not Surprised
I compared the Odyssey and the Sienna heavily. On paper they seem to be rather equal, but after actually driving the two, the Odyssey won by a landslide. I am also enjoying the fact my van is the most powerful van in its segment but also has the best fuel economy all the while having to use only regular, keeping my pocket book happy. Other things that put me over the edge was the styling of the van and the navigation system. My black Touring with Nav is everything I hoped for and more.

Honda Quality? Whatever.
Paid 30K for the van. MULTIPLE problems with it and I'm not exactly a Whiner. 1. Steering pump at 5000 mi. Took it in and they said there was a TSB. They said the wrong fluid was added at the factory. They changed the fluid reservoir? Cured the problem for about 10k. I got the bulletin. They miss read it. the entire pump and the reservoir was to be replaced. Like every thing else with this car, the steering problem is "intermittent" they couldn't recreate the issue bla bla bla. 2. Front wheel bearings. 20k Car was in the shop 2 weeks with them trying to figure this out. Another tsb bla bla bla 3. Front brake grinding and warped rotors. 4. retaining clips in front lower bumper are falling out
Honda vs Germany
Before two kids, we always said no way to a minivan... until we saw and drove the current generation Odyssey. I agree with everyone else that the car is outstanding in many ways, blah blah blah. I have to stress that I am extremely picky about what I drive and no matter how much cash you want to blow on a minivan - Honda has everyone licked. The Odyssey frustrates me that for half of what my other car costs AND being a freakin minivan - it actually is all anybody needs. I rarely drive my car anymore.
Odyssey Has "Irreparable Noise"!
I have owned an Odyssey for 6 weeks. I own or have owned two other Hondas with zero problems. After two weeks, this Honda began making funny under-hood noises. I have returned the vehicle to Honda three times in six weeks - I have been told three different stories: there is no problem, there is a "normal" non-repairable noise in the anti-lock brake system, and there is a "normal" noise in the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system. Don't worry - your brakes are fine! I have never owned a vehicle with such a problem - including two other Hondas. I believe Honda has a problem and does not yet have a fix. The noise has gone from nil, to intermittent, to every time you start and drive it.
Great with several minor gripes
We got this van to replace our 1998 Dodge Caravan. We needed a van because we go camping quite often. This van worked out great so far and gets better mileage and handleing than our old van. We can't give it a perfect fun to drive score because compared to our 2001 VW Passat, this car is like a snail.
Now I Understand
We looked at several competitors - Honda have raised the bar. The Honda has great styling, the interior is first rate, could easily be a Acura.
My First Minivan
Even though we've only owned this Van for 1 tank of gas, the wife and I love it already. The odyseey has great acceleration when called upon. I looked at the Sedona and Entourage but I came back to the Odyseey for the exterior good lucks, and the classier interior vs the others. I liked the 2007 Nissan Quest, now that they have moved the instrument cluster back in front of the driver, but it was very pricey compared to the Odyssey EX. Unlike others, i'm perfectly happy with the gas mileage. We got 22mpg from our first tank and I'm sure that will improve over time. In my opinion this is by far the best looking minivan both inside and out. It drives as nice as our 2004 Accord and we love it
Seriously Consider Tires
This is my second Honda Odyssey. We decided to "upgrade" to the 2005 Touring because of all its great features including run-flat tires. Little did we know that even in a city as big as Houston there are only four places certified to replace the tires. Not even my Honda dealership can touch the tires! Mine only have 22,000 miles on them are going to cost around $300 each to have them replaced. Although I love my van, I'm beginning to have some regrets about buying it. It is worth a little extra research time to decide whether this is really the van for you.
Good Van but some things to be aware of
I was considering either Honda or Sienna. Test drove several of both. Sienna interior turned me off, it just seemed so plain, acceleration and handling was adequate but seemed the Honda was better at both. However both are good vans and safe. If you buy the Honda EX-L RES model, you need to replace the DVD to CD control cable for it to work properly with the wireless headphones. There is a service bulletin for this. Also you may get windshield whistle which the dealer was kind enough to replace the molding, it stopped. Other than that it's a great vehicle. Husband loves the sunroof and bright headlights. Only thing to worry about is the potential runaway problem.
Why would ANYONE give this a bad review!
We researched before we bought our 1st new car, for about a month! We went through EVERY review and were petrified by the bad reviews that every car seemed to have. We finally bit the bullet and bought the 06 Honda Odyssey! WE LOVE IT! It's by far the nicest of the minivans out there, and its interior room is VERY spacious! We have no real complaints, just suggestions really. This van actually drives like a car, and is very easy to manuver *i used to drive a little ford contour, so this is much larger*
2006 EX-LR
Lovin' the ride, although we traded in a 1996 Town and Country Lxi and I'm missing some of the options it had i.e., more storage, easily reachable stereo controls, easier to read clock, and doors that unlock upon parking. These are all available on the touring but that had many options that we didn't need.
MORE SPACE ODYSSEY
The day after purchase we drove two kids off to college. First stop Delaware, then on to Virginia. Total drive was 820 miles round trip. The trip was comfortable and economical. Our odyssey is fabulous. Fun to drive and spacious. At one point there were 8 adults in the vehicle . All were comfortable. We love our odyssey.
Love my honda
I have bought my last 6 vehicles new. I am in the auto repair industry and from the experience I have with my 2002 Accord that has 145,000 miles on it I had to replace my Caravan with a Honda. The Odyssey in a class all its own. I drove the Sienna and the overall handling of the Honda is better. The interior is more user friendly and the exterior styling is great. I have 3 friends with this van and they all agree.
Owned 05 Sienna, prefer the Odyssey
Chose the Honda over a new Sienna mostly because of better ergonomics, more power and purportedly better gas mileage. Have not been disappointed in any way except the transmission shifts are occasionally rough at light throttle. Have averaged over 20mpg since new. This car is fun to drive.
The Benchmark - there is no substitute
We are in our 3rd year of ownership and this vehicle has been flawless. Excellent powertrain, great handling, comfortable seats, excellent fit and finish, versatile interior and lots of storage. Great vehicle for long trips with 2 kids, the dog and luggage. There is no substitute for these vans. We rented several other minivans prior to purchase and they do not compare. Although the consumer trend is against minivans, cross-overs just do not have enough space. With the exception of the price, I can't understand why they are not selling more of these versatile haulers.
Not what I expected
Honda does not have a power adjustable seat for the passenger. The steering wheel controls do not light up enough to see at night. The instrument cluster and the radio and temp controls do not match. The radio and heater look like something from 20 years ago. (Dim and dull.) The gas mileage is not what they claim. I don't have a heavy foot, but can only get about 15 in town and 24 on the highway. The interior is very good for hauling 7 people, and comfortable. All in all, this is my first Honda, and with a few improvements I would buy another. I was afraid of the run flat tires, and it is too bad that you have to get them to get more bells and whistles. Let's hope they change.
Very Pleased
We are very pleased with our Honda. It is the greatest van we have ever owned. Very comfortable. Love the spaciousness inside, the rear seats that fold intothe floor, and the power doors. We travel very often with six adults and everyone talks about how comfortable it is.
Good and Bad
The Good:Have the model w/the engine that goes to 3 cylinders-mixed driving mileage 22-25.Looks nice.Seats are supportive.Good pickup.Very roomy (I'm 6'4" and have headroom even w/sunroof).Bad: Although the illuminated dash looks good,I am new to this feature. My old cars' dashes required headlights on for illumination. This is a safety issue.I don't always remember to turn on the headlights right away.Should be automatic w/sensors for dark. The power sliding door does not always close properly, causing a beeping noise only when van is in gear(no indication other than that).I have to turn off the feature when driving.Drivers side window is noisy at times.Tires often squeal with light accelerat'n
Best Car in 50 Years of Driving
The car handles beautifully in wet and snowy weather. Quiet and extremely comfortable to ride in, it has v/good acceleration, offering safe access to busy expressways and parkways. The 3/6 cylinder motor offers economy. For once, we are not fighting for trunk space (usually we do not use the third row of seats). Each of us has a big plastic storage box in the trunk, and we still have ample space for our five suitcases when traveling. The four dogs also have plenty of room. The largest of the four (50 lbs.) likes to ride in the front seat whenever I drive alone; when the seat warmer is on, she curls up for a nap. Even my friends who are critical of suv's and vans' haven't complained.
Great minivan
More expensive compared to other minivan but it's worth it. Considered Sienna but I preferred a sharper handling and more standard safety features like Side curtain airbags with roll-over sensor, Stability control etc. Kia Sedona but Honda has an excellent resale value, proven reliability and cheaper insurance for us.
Top Notch Minivan - I own 2 of them!
Loved it so much, I bought another one...top notch quality, ride is exceptional, quiet, fit and finish, only other true competitor to the Odyssey is the Toyota....Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Buick - not even close in any aspect......
Everything we expected
We have owned this van for a very short time but have recognized Honda's dedication to quality. We are first time Honda buyers and wonder why we waited so long. The third row seats are so easy to operate that our 8 year old can easily put them into the floor and then back into position. The removable seat in the middle of the second row makes moving from the front to the back really easy also. The rear entertainment system (using the headphones in the back) has better sound quality than my Bose home system. This van really does drive like a car. We did own a Ford Windstar. There is no comparison, the Honda is much better in initial quality. Time will tell about the rest.
The Odyssey after 2 years
This is an update on our new Odyssey after living with it for 2 years. Reliability has been excellent. Ride quality and fit & finish have held up. We took a long car trip in August. The kids had plenty of room, the DVD was great. The Nav system is awesome. We made multiple stops throughout the LA basin and it was incredibly easy with the nav computer. We still love the van. I can't imagine stuffing 3 kids across a single back seat and the van is so much easier to live with than a SUV. The Denali only comes out for towing and snow. But... the pax tires are a problem.
Silver Pearl Paint Blotchy
We looked at both the Odyssey and the Sienna and decided on the Honda because we liked the looks of the front end and the interior better. Even though we like this van for it's handling and performance, there are lots of quality issues that we thought we would not see in a Honda product. From plastic parts not fitting properly, glove boxes not aligned to the deformed rear side window seal. The van we purchased was in silver pearl. The other day when it was parked in the sun I noticed that the whole side of the van was covered in dark blotches when viewed at an angle. When I turned the van around it was the same thing on the other side but not as bad. The dealer said this was normal. ??
Good Minivan
Have put 10000 on so far, had no complaints. We use our van hard and it has held up very well. Removeable/stowable seats are wonderful, easy to drive, lots of power for a minivan. OK mileage (22) for a large van. Nice to have a million cup holders, too. It is not outstanding in any particular category, but does everything well, probably the most "easy to live with on a daily basis vehicle" I have owned. Kinda like a favorite hat, you grab it on the way out the door and it gets the job done.
Great van but discovered few odd things
So far so good, no problems yet but then it's still new. The VCM cuts in and out without ever you noticing it. Lots of power and gas mileage has been decent so far, averaging 24mpg in the city. I like the climate control system but the AC has this musky smell when using it in fresh air mode. Also, my daughter discovered a few odd things. 1. While sitting in the back row she noticed that the bottom of the cup holders and the storage box on the passenger side were warm. 2. With the middle row windows opened 1/2 way it sounded like a helicopter was right over you, actually hurts the ears driving at 35mph+. 3. The bottom 1/3 of the huge tailights don't light up when you turn them on.
2006 Honda Odyssey
Excellent van overall. Have not experienced any significant mechanical problems to date. Front brake pads made noise and were replaced/upgraded by dealership in response to Honda service bulletin. I agree with other reviewers that the climate controls are poorly laid out and cumbersome to operate. The radio controls are also clumsy. Van lacks automatic headlights and door locks. Very annoying considering the 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette that it replaced had this technology.
Best I ever owned
The best minivan I researched for, and if the time goes back I would've still picked it.
My Chevy Venture was Better
Had the vehicle for three years now. No significant problems, several annoying things. The steering noise that others mention - dealer said fluid change would fix it (it didn't). The breaks are insufficient for a vehicle this heavy. I feel like I need to throw out an anchor to stop it. Vehicle is fun to steer at highway speeds but is difficult to steer at low "parking" speeds. The fuel economy stinks. We get about 19 in average driving and about 22 on the highway. My 99 Venture would get 26 easy.
"Was Well Worth Waiting For "
I been driving the odyssey since I got it this past August, and I was a leasing a Ford Freestar '04 SE.Comparing the two is like going out with a super model. The ride and horsepower I enjoy, and with a very bad back and hip I feel more comfort with the seating. The inside looks great compare to what I had in the freestar. My wife likes the leg room in all rows, plus the storage to put things away. Remember Honda Resale is the best out there American cars are loosing it's grip (as you read the news about layoffs with GM and Ford). The internet help the those looking for the right vehicle, and compairing them between the U.S., Aisa, And Europe market.
great minivan
recent purchase, only 900 miles to date. my 2nd 0dyssey - the 2001 was the best auto i have ever owned. we love the updated features on the 06. This van is quiter than the 01.I look for reliability when purchasing a vehicle. i hope this 06 is as reliable as my previous 01 odyssey.
Buy the Odyssey over any other minivan!
I highly recommend the Honda Odyssey. We search and rode in every single minivan offered and by far this van has the most to offer and is the most comfortable! Not to mention the Honda reliability! I only offer up to you to not purchase from Shaefer & Strominger in Bel Air (Bel Air Honda) the sales managers there think they are too good to sell a car. I only bought there because they had the only van out there that had everything I wanted - but the experience w/ them was enough to say that I would never go back.
Not a True 8 seater
Absolutely love everything EXCEPT the so-called 8th seat. No adult and very few children can fit in it. And if you plan on putting a car seat in it (even an infant car seat) you can forget it. The carseat will fit, but it restricts the movement of BOTH seats next to it so that you can't move them to get in the back. If you want a car seat in the middle for easy access, I would suggest taking out the 8th seat and sliding the 2nd row passenger side seat over against the driver side seat. However, if you're after a true 8 passenger minivan, this is not it. Try the Toyota Sienna.
Fun to Drive
Love the NAVI, auto climate control, rear DVD and powerful engine. It drive sooo smoothly and can fit 8 passenger comfortably. The 3rd row seats have better leg room compared to other SUVs/minvans and so easy to store.
Best Vehicle I have ever owned
We bought our Odyssey about 4 months ago, at first the fuel mileage was a disappointment, but now we are getting almost 300 miles on a tank, in the city. I have a lead foot too... Last month someone backed a Tacoma Pickup into the Odyssey, it was shaking, went over to see the horrorible damage, not even one scratch! I even got the comments from friends about going over to a Minivan, but watched their jaws drop when I hit the gas and told them it has 244 horses. I didn't expect I would sneak the keys from my Wife on the weekends, but I just love the way it drives. When running around town in it, it's not a chore to drive it around like the SUV I drive for work.
Gas mileage got better
Some people didn't like the gas mileage of there new Honda vans. I didn't like it either at first, But it has gotten a lot better now that it's breaking in. Just went to Florida from upstate NY and at one time went 500 miles and still had almost a 1/4 of a tank of gas and avg between 70 & 75mph.
Ecstatic
This is a terrific vehicle! I was a previous owner of a Quest and wish I had started with the Odyssey. Kid friendly, plenty of cup holders & storage. Easy to fold seats, even my 5 yr. old can do it. The DVD has a crisp, clean screen. This vehicle is so quiet during city & highway driving. Easy to read dash & user friendly climate control. So much more superior to the Quest. It gets great gas mileage. I can't say enough good things about this van!
06 Odyssey w.Nav and DVD
Our van is a work of art and is a pleasure to drive. We have had it for a month and put over 2000 miles on it. Disappointed that we are getting 22 mpg. It was advertised as 29 to 30 with the computer controlled shutdown of three cylinders.
Family fun
We have been driving this van for two weeks now, up from a 2004 Honda CRV. It is very roomy inside, the base model has all I want, the ride is very comfortable. The amount of cargo room is impressive because the floor is very low (the spare tire is under the middle seats) I tried the 2006 Sienna: downshifting from 5th to 4th was very noticeable, not on the Sienna. Other than that, they are very similar. Note: the van can accomodate only three child seats: two in the middle row, one at the center of the third row -- read my problem with hooks below. With a child seat in the third row, you cannot lower the widest portion (60%) of the third row, only the narrowest (40%).
2006 Odyssey EX
Great van! I have 6 kids and we all fit comfortably. A solid vehicle all around.
Our 2nd Odyssey
We had a 1999 Odyssey and loved it so much that when it was time for more features, we simply bought the 2006 Odyssey. I chose the black with tan leather interior--for a minivan, this is a very sporty combination, in my opinion. I love the reliability and all the convenience features. I shopped every SUV out there and couldn't find one that compared in terms of space, features and reliability.
2006 honda touring odyssey
I purchased this van for my wife that said she would never drive a minivan. I'm overwhelmed on how it drives like an Acura more than a Honda. I would reccomend anybody with kids to get this one.
Great Van
Traded in a 2003 with L/DVD. The amenities and redesign on the 2006 are excellent. Comfortable, roomy and reliable. This van will haul it all. Toyota loses to this one hands down. I will stick with Honda.
This is a GREAT Minivan!
My Wife and I have made fun at minivan people for years. We never test drove one as we wouldn't get caught dead in one. But then we were pregnant with our 4th baby. The Odessey is one awesome minivan. Strong engine, cool to drive, great fuel economy (then again, our previous car was a GMC Yukon XL) and absolutely, positively the most versatile and comfortable vehicle for someone with a family. If you have 1-2 kids, get a sedan or a wagon, if more kids this is your car. Seats move, come off and configure anyway you want them. Get the DVD player if you have kids, it's well worth it! The sunroof is great too.
Love driving a Honda!!!!!
I enjoy this item so much. It is easy to drive but I think I would pick a smaller one next time.......I am a solo driver and do not need all that room but it is wonderful. No problems at all
Good/Bad and Ugly
We are a family of 5. The (good) Honda's automatic opening doors were great with the twins when they were in car carrier seats. The room inside is great and the van still had plenty of power when 8 people were inside. The (bad) OEM brakes are not made to handle this vehicle, I swear we have had rotor problems twice, and the transmission had to be fixed. The (ugly) is the tires, 82,000 miles, and just put the fourth set on last Saturday. Have tired Mich, Yoko and Goodyear's twice. I have alignments every 6 months and rotate/balance every oil change. At least Sears pro- rated the last set for $300 dollars.
Buy This Van!
This van is great. We put 2000 miles on ours in the first two weeks of owning it. We took a road trip the second week. I cruised at over 90 mph and it drove better than my 2000 Suburban. The passing ability in this thing is unbelievable. The reason I bought it though, was of course, for the kids. It's really easy for my 2 and 5 year old to get in and out, especially with the automatic doors. I'm not sure yet how good or bad the mileage is, but the range is great.
Oil Leak From Day One
My brother bought the car on 9/18/2006 from ValStrough Honda in Monterey, CA. He drove the car home (30 miles) and parked it in the garage. Two days later, I discovered a puddle of oil under the car. I checked under the car and it seemed to be leaking from the oil pan gasket. My brother took the car back immediately. The service dept was already closed so they checked the car the next day. They acknowledged that there was "oil residue", but were unable to find the source or replicate the leak. They told my brother drive it around some more and bring it back if it leaks again. He drove it home. Still leaking! Big Surprise! He's going to take it back tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
Best Minivan out there!
We absolutely LOOOOVE this van. The ride is smooth, quiet, and enjoyable. The quality is amazing. This is our first Honda and we couldn't be happier with it. In the past we have owned Toyota vehicles and the quality doesn't even compare with a Honda. We were almost sick that we almost bought the Sienna before looking at this van. Now, our kids (2 & 3) tell everyone they need a van like Mommy's.
