Just about everything I was looking for in a SUV
Great little SUV that meets all my need. I was looking for a reasonably priced SUV with AWD and good fuel economy and the HR-V fits the bill. Most SUVs are too large and heavy which results in poorer MPG and often more expensive when equipped with options and AWD. I wasn't looking for something with a lot of power since I don't tow or haul a lot of stuffs nor do I drive very aggressively. Within my price range. Plenty of features. Excellent MPG. Very spacious for this compact segment. Honda's legendary reliability with a proven 1.8L Civic engine and CVT transmission. AWD traction for extra assurance in bad weather. I am not an off-roader, so I don't really need a very sophisticated AWD.

Our newest "convertible"
I also own a 06 MINI convertible...this is kind of a convertible with it's cargo/storage options. It's one of the main reason's we picked the HRV, we love the fold flat rear seats for our dogs. The ride is nice and tight but composed and not uncomfortable. I wish the passenger front seat had the option to raise or lower like the driver's seat but it is comfortable and I easily fit my 6' frame inside. I enjoy the all touch digital dashboard but then I love Star Trek and the futuristic look. I don't have any issue using the controls. Most of the radio and phone controls are also controlled on the steering wheel and if your the passenger you can mess around and have some fun with the touch screen. I didn't think the Navigation could be better than our Garmin but it's way better. You can enter phone number's for locations instead of addresses and here's the big one, you make a change to your route and the Nav doesn't bark back, "recalculating". The Nav just adopts to your new route without the annoying voice. Gas mileage is good with our mix of freeway and city, making 28 mpg right now, that is mainly using the eco mode. Speaking of, even on eco the acceleration is good, it's not my supercharged MINI 6 speed fast but it is acceptable. I can pass on the freeway without annoyance. The mirrors and visibility are good and the right side camera helps a lot when switching lanes. I never used a paddle shifter before but had fun shifting up and down with the sport mode. I also found this useful going up longer hills on the freeway when maximizing my acceleration. Honda is known for their reliability and we are looking forward to 10 years with this vehicle. Time will tell but as we bought this car and the very end of winter in Wisconsin. This may be the 1st time I'm looking forward to next year's winter snow with the Honda HRV!

I'm going to wait...
I looked at this HR-V at my local dealership and checked it out. I am a long-time Honda owner and have had Civics, Accords and a CR-V over the years. In my experience, Honda typically puts out these new models with the minimal amount of features and horsepower they can get away with and still sell a ton of them - for cost and profit reasons of course - I'm already seeing reviews that say this HR-V is under powered - go figure! As the years go by, they tend to begin adding better engines and tweaking the ride, interior quality, features and noise levels. They've done this on most any model you can name that they have introduced or upgraded. I find that if you wait until the mid-cycle refresh or near the end of a model cycle, you'll find that the car has been refined and upgraded to a more acceptable level for most people. I have learned that I do not buy a Honda the first time out of the gate for a model refresh or a new model - not necessarily because of overall reliability issues which is still true with most domestic models - but because Honda tends to "massage" the models as the years pass and they are better near the end of their cycle than at first. My advice? Don't jump on Honda models when they are the "new thing everyone has to have". I am looking at an Accord or possibly the top of the line newly redesigned Civic with turbo engine but I am waiting a couple of years to let Honda tweak and massage any issues that almost always arise at first - just my two-cents worth from a long time Honda fan - patience pays off with Honda :-)

HR-V Not Quite Up To Honda Standards
I have had the HR-V for nearly two months. Have driven about 3000 miles including a road trip to Chicago. Overall satisfied but certainly not blown away. The car handles fine but the engine is clearly not powerful enough. Acceleration is an effort especially from a running start (ie: doing 60 mph and want to pass someone). The miles per gallon is a disappointment especially around town. I am getting about 32 mpg on long highway trips but less than 15 mpg around town. My previous car was a Honda Accord on which I regularly got 40 mpg highway and 30 around town. The range on a tank of gas is not good. A full tank registers about a 360 mile range so I find myself having to gas up more often than I had become accustomed to. The Accord registered 600+ mile range on a tank of gas. On the positive side The HR-V handles well and has a nice amount of storage space. The location of the charging outlets, however, is inconvenient. The technology package is ok. Overall I rate the vehicle as a 3 out of 5. Not bad but not great. I would not consider purchasing another HR-V although I would consider other Honda models.

What a disappointment
12000 miles to date. After only buying Hondas for the past 20+ years (3 accords,2 crvs,1pilot,1fit and a S2000) I had to try the HRV. This is by far the worst honda I have owned. I am 5'10 and can not get the seat/steering wheel/ speedometer combination to work! Because of the short telescoping and high numbers placement the steering wheel blocks the top of the speedometer. The road noise is loud until you do a left hand corner above 30mph then it becomes a louder howl. The A/C can not keep up if you are driving towards the Sun, I have to turn the fan all the way up (can't hear road noise) and then can't hear radio or Bluetooth. The navigation system is difficult at best! Would not take my home address and after four people tried my son got it to take the non existing house next door. Searching for services is funny,I can see three gas stations but it insist the closest is five miles away! It's the same for all services. If I drop a signal while talking on Bluetooth the system seems to lock up and radio/phone will not work until I restart the car. I love my pilots power lift gate if there is a problem closing it lets me know right away. Not the Hrv it must be slammed and even then it waits until the car is in drive before it dings if there is a problem. My 2004 crv was a much better automobile than this 2016 hrv!! Comfort, visibility, layout were all so much more thought out . This is the first honda I can't wait to get rid of

Perfect Compact SUV
The size of the vehicle and available cargo space are perfect for my lifestyle. I live in a pretty busy city where parking can be a problem but I also needed cargo space for the activities that I engage in. I absolutely love the aesthetic and performance of this car. I initially had an issue with the headlights not operating but the service center of the dealership took care of it right away!

Great little SUV
I bought this car after almost six years of driving a CRZ. What a difference! A lot more comfortable seat, also easier getting in and out. Great visibility. Watch lane and rear view camera are extremely helpful. I'm not sorry I chose this car. UPDATE: still very glad with the purchase of this H-RV! It's end of November. We live on a hill in MA. Snow and bad weather are coming but I'm unafraid! And it's very reasonable on gas. No problems at all. It has over 4000 miles now, I think. Mzy 23, 2017 After 9000 miles now and driving through ice and snow, I still think this is the best car.

Finally got my HR-V!
After wanting an HR-V since summer 2015 (when my CRV reached 170,000 miles), they are finally a bit easier to find. I purchased an LX, which I absolutely LOVE. Compared to the other small crossover/suvs in it's class, it sits higher, which is a must after driving an suv for over ten years. It also handles well, (though the ride is a bit rigid), is more spacious inside, and has intuitive controls and technology. It is my 5th Honda, and they have all been super reliable, and long lasting, with great re-sale value. After owning my HRV for 5 months, I am still pleased with it overall, but wish I had gotten leather interior instead of cloth. The cloth on the seats, headrests, and doors is not very high quality, and acts almost like a dirt magnet. It has also developed a loud squeaking/rubbing sound in the cab which I am having looked at by the dealer soon. I also wish the headlights were brighter, and the heating/AC system was stronger and more quickly responsive. I can definitely see/feel the difference in quality from my 2005 CRV EX, but still believe it is a good little car for the money. I have now owned my HRV for 18 months. I said it all in my 5 month review, though now I wished I had gotten heated seats and side mirror defrosters as well since the heater is not super strong and takes awhile to warm me and the car up. I assume because of the smallish engine. The squeaking/rubbing sound has resolved itself (?) so that's nice. I would buy this car again, it suits my budget and needs well. And, sits higher with better visibility than the Mazda 3 or other crossovers in it's class. Update: I have now owned the car for 27 months. As seems to be fairly common, my HRV has developed a loud rumbling rattle in the right rear. No one seems to be able to find the source, have had it on the rack at an alignment shop and a body shop. Dealer said they "can't hear it" when I made an appointment for 8am on a Saturday for servicing and to check it out. Said the car is safe and sound, so bring it back and be prepared to leave it for a long time so they can try and track it down. I almost feel like the dealer is waiting for the warranty to run out so they don't have to deal with it. Loved this little car in the beginning. I would not however buy anther one, which is a shame, this is my 5th Honda.

good transport
it's a good car for the commute. i wouldnt keep too many passengers in the back. the design is a nice change from other sedans and suvs.
Sporty, Comfy, Perfect
So far I LOVE this car. I had a CRV for 11 years and was ready for a new vehicle. I tried the HRV and like it's smaller build and comfort. The gas mileage has been great too! This car suits me since I commute and don't usually carry passengers. It has plenty of room in the back for storage, too!

Fell in Love, Still in Love!
When Honda came out with the new HR-V I fell in love. And I am not a Honda fan. I'm a loyal Toyota girl. I had a RAV4, but just felt "blah" about it. I love the gas miliage on my honda, I'm averaging 28 mpg & less than $20 to fill her up. Her engine is not quiet by any means & the ride is not smooth. I reminds of you of driving a small truck, but FUN to drive! I'm 5'0 ft tall and I feel like this car is the SUV for us short gals! Easy to get in & out of , my 5 yr old has trouble reaching the door handle, but climbing in & out is getting easier for her. I do want to say this, in regards to safety. I had a car literally slam on their brakes in front of me a few days ago & got to use the anti-lock brakes for the first time! And all I can say is WOW!!! The stop was immediate, we all slung forward but we had our seatbelts on so all was well. I was VERY impressed by the braking system in an emergency, esp since I had my 3 kids in the car! The back seat is not comfortable with the head rests, so my kids removed the backseat headrests the day we bought it. Other than that, I give my car 5 stars! I will say the Bluetooth in my Toyota's worked ALOT better....but I still wouldn't trade my HR-V for a RAV! And it won't let me change it, but my HRV is EX model. I've had my car almost a year now & still love it. I literally get compliments daily on my car from folks I don't know, that says a lot about this car.

Moving up from a Fit
Update: August 26, 2024, 103,000 miles. Pushbutton starter switch has become unreliable. Sometimes it starts on the first push, sometimes 5 or more, but it always starts eventually. At ~102,500 miles the rear hatch switch failed. This will require removing the inner liner to determine if the problem is a bad connection, or if a new switch is needed (~$30). Update: August 22, 2023: 100,000 routine service on August 7. No issues found. The HR-V remains a very reliable car. Update: August 22, 2022. The HR-V continues to be a reliable and versatile vehicle. Approaching 90,000 miles, I am considering the next generation, even though it is much larger, and loses the "magic seats" from the Fit. Adjusted for inflation, the EX model costs very little than my previous Honda, a 2009 Fit Sport, but is a huge improvement. It's better in almost every way, quieter, more comfortable, stronger performance, better sound system, far better A/C, heated seats, moonroof, and the side and rear view cameras, which are more useful than I expected, plus "just enough" extra space, without adding excessively to exterior dimensions. About the only place where the 2009 Fit bests the HR-V is the dash mounted cup holders, which are very convenient. Living in the hot and sunny south, the improvements in the HR-V A/C system are greatly appreciated. The Fit A/C is adequate up to 95° in constant conditions, but it takes a while to cool down. In contrast, the HR-V climate control system is both more powerful and quieter, and gets a hot car down to a comfortable level in a matter of minutes. The HR-V is an extremely versatile car. As of February 2022 our HR-V has accumulated over 90,000 trouble-free miles, including long road trips between Georgia and Delaware. Gas mileage has slowly improved by about 10% since it was new. up, and it's averaging 34 mpg long term, with a mix of highway, city, and mountain driving. Cargo capacity is fantastic; I wish I could attach a photo of our HR-V loaded to the rafters with boxes. Overall, I am very pleased with the HR-V; no car is perfect, but at this price point, the HR-V comes pretty close. I received two recall notices in 2021, one for the ignition switch (reimbursed in full by Honda) and the other to reflash the CVT software. Transmission would have been replaced under extended warranty if it had failed testing, but it passed. While the HR-V was being serviced, dealer provided a 2021 CR-V loaner. I did not like new new instrument panel design, intrusive lane correction, or handling. If the 2023 HR-V redesign for North America proves out, it will be at the top of our list for a replacement vehicle — something that I hope will not occur until the HR-V is well past 100,000 miles.

Disappointed with Honda
I love the style, like the drive BIGGEST problem.. Making a roaring sound while going up hills. Almost like vibration. Honda claimed it was a heat shield they fixed it & we are still having problems. Obviously wasn't a heat shield. Not happy.

Love my little SUV
1/3/2020. The transmission on my vehicle will be replaced next week. It is under warranty however I only have 35,000 miles on this car. Very disappointing 11/1619 I still love this little SUV, the one fault I have found with it is accelerating - sometimes when pulling out from a stop, I get no acceleration and it can be unnerving. I had it checked, they said it is because it is a 4 cylinder - well all my SUVs have been 4 cylinder and I have never had this problem. My last 4 cars were Honda CRV's, all basic models, great cars, but did not feel the need for a SUV that big. Tried out the Honda HRV & it was love at first ride - I still has an SUV feel, not low to the ground like I feel when I drive a sedan. And this time I purchased all the bells & whistles and so far I am extremely pleased.

Good little car
I have owned a 2010 CR-V and a 2010 Fit and find the 2016 HR-V to be somewhere in the middle. I have had the HR-V for 7 months now and I love the car. Gas mileage has been fantastic, around town I get 35mpg and on commutes where I stay near 50mph, I routinely get 35 mpg. With great gas mileage comes some tradeoffs - the car is made out of lighter materials that you have take care not to abuse. The ride and handling are above average but I do notice a rougher ride than my CR-V. I miss the elevated driving position that I had with my CR-V but am getting used to the HR-V. I have not found a problem with the seats - they are comfortable and have not experienced any back problems. The entertainment system works well but I have had problems with Blue Tooth and my iPhone. I have had to reset the entertainment system to its factory setting to keep the car from randomly dialing numbers on my phone. The reason I keep buying Hondas (this is my 8th Honda in 20 years) is that they are extremely reliable (under 100,000 miles) and I have not had any major repairs to any of my vehicles. The only minor complaint I have is the noise coming from the engine compartment when I travel around 45mph (~1500 RPM). I found out that the oxygen sensor on the muffler underneath the car was held in place by a plastic connector that vibrated. I secured the connector with duct tape so that it did not vibrate and the noise was gone! (Thanks to a post on HRV Forum). The climate controls are problematic in cold weather when my windows fog up frequently and the defroster fan is very loud at the setting required to clear the windows. This can cause distracted driving. In retrospect if I had to choose all over again between a CR-V and HR-V, I think I would go with the CR-V due to its larger cargo capacity and smoother ride.

from Civic to HRV
I ABSOLUTELY love this car. I was very hesitant at first because I just wanted to replace my civic that was totaled in a car accident. My husband kept saying just test drive it and see. I mean I loved the look but said no. Well when I started to look at the civics and don't know if it was me or that they seemed to be lower than the one I had. So I went to look at the CRV. Still not even looking in the HRV's direction. Test drove the CRV and I was like OK I can do this. But still on the fence. I am only 4 foot 11 so I felt the CRV was a bit on the big side. I was really stuck. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so getting a civic was not out of the question. When I have flares it would be hard for me to get in and out of the car because it was just to low. The CRV seemed to be the better fit but finally the salesman was like lets just take a look at the HRV. I think it's what you are looking for. When I went to sit in the HRV let me tell you. It fit like a glove. The ease of getting in and out of the car was so easy. My kids have plenty of room in the back seat. I have great space in my cargo area. I mean this car is perfect. It drives great. I did read about the speed and it drives great. Now let me get to the few thinks I don't really care for but deal with because like I said I love this car. The cup holder is not that great. If you have a medium drink or larger you are good. but if you have a small drink the lift for that size is not very promising. I find myself holding the cup because I feel it will fall out of the cup holder. The middle console armrest is pretty small. maybe a few pens. Where they have put the charging plugs in the front is OK but i would much rather have easier access. Now this is one think I don't understand. The passenger can usually lock the car if the driver happens to step out when parked. But you can't in this car. They have to lean over to the driver's side to lock the car. (If someone knows how it can be done please let me know) The problems I see are so minor that I tell everyone that asks me about my HRV to go and test drive it and they will see for themselves this is a great car. The AC fan is NOT great at all. I had to have it replaced when the vehicle was still under warranty. It has not been a year since having it replaced and the fan sounds like it did the last time it went out. I wonder if other owners have this problem.

It does not support android auto. Which was a huge minus. However it does have Pandora sync available. The acceleration is a bit slow but when city driving it's quick.

Bad back? Do NOT buy this car!
I bought one of the first HRVs at my local dealership and it's been the WORST car that I've ever bought! After 5 month and 8K miles, it's been to the service dept repeatedly for squeaking, rattling and suspension issues. The suspension rides very rough and I bought the car because I have a bad back and it's higher than my last Honda. Big mistake! My other Honda was lower (2013 EX Civic), but it didn't cause pain when I went over bumps in the road- the HRV does! On a recent road trip, the freeway was under construction and the car was difficult to drive on the uneven road. It was swaying and hopping up and down soo bad that it literally "jumped" into the lane next to me! It scared the death out of me! The dealer would not document the freeway event and maintains that there is nothing mechanically wrong with my car. The service manager told my that the what I'm experiencing is "inherent" to HRV's performance. The dealership was talking about getting me into another car but decided that it wasn't "cost effective" for them. After one of the many visits to the dealership, one of the squeaks was thought to be coming from the drivers seat and the guys in the service dept eluded that maybe it was "my weight" causing it! I'm 6'5" 225lbs. I was very offended, but I didn't say anything in the hopes they would just fix the problem. It didn't happen. On the most recent visit to the service dept, the car had 61 miles put on it overnight without anything being fixed. When I asked why so many miles were put on my car in one night, a person in the service department became confrontational and screamed at me. Despite being in the shop MULTIPLE times, my car still has the same problems. In all good faith, I could not recommend this car or even Honda as a brand anymore. I have waited weeks to speak to a rep from Honda about their "brand new car," but they have NOT contacted me. The dealership tells me a rep will be here in the next few weeks. I have been a Honda customer for the last 10 years and have bought three brand new vehicles from them, but this is the last one. I have never been soo disrespected by a retailer or ignored by a manufacturer like I have been in the last few months by Honda and the dealer. I've been meeting with attorneys to find out what rights I have as a consumer because neither the dealership or Honda is fixing this car or care about how bad it is or my safety! WARNING! It's VERY easy to get into this car at the dealership but VERY hard to get out of it once you realize how bad it is (and drop thousands for tax, license, doc fees and extended warranty). Outrageous amounts of road noise, the A/C is under powered, the list keeps going on and on. Read some of the other reviews on this car before you buy! It's not just the HRV either. Research the vibration problem with 2015 CRV. Shame on you Honda!

Good not great
Car is really nice. Material is a little below the quality that I expect from Honda. This is my third new Honda. I am 6-1 and my head is very close to the headliner even with the seat low. The Lx does not have this issue because there is no moonroof. A few small rattles and squeaks from a new car. Stereo has really hollow sound. Center console could have more storage and the "cubby" under the console is pretty useless. This is my wife's car and she loves it. I tolerate it and would rather drive my 07 Prius.

Achy Breaky?
I love the utility and styling of the HRV. The seats are the most uncomfortable that I have ever sat in. You could use these as instruments of torture to get information from terrorists. I have to bring to dealer for service after only 3 weeks as pooling water under front passengers seat. I am considering trading or selling outright as has caused me to have sciatica. I think it would be a good vehicle if you do not drive long distances.

Wanted to love it
Been waiting to get an HRV from the moment I hard it was coming out. Test drove one and loved it until about 3 weeks into it. I am seriously feeling vibrations from the gas pedal as well as the brake pedal. Seems to be worse on bad roads as well as freeway driving. I have taken it to the dealer as well as service where they tell me they don't feel it. I have owned a Civic and never had this problem. Now every time I get into the car I dread it. I expected my new car to be perfect.

Love my new car!
This car is really, really nice. A lot of cool technology that I didn't have on my old car. Love the lane watch camera... I drive about 60 miles each day for work, mostly on the highway. So that camera really comes in handy. I get way better gas mileage then I did on my old car (Rogue), but this car has a smaller tank so I still have to fill it up about the same amount of times. The only thing that irritates me a bit is for whatever reason the front seat buckle really digs into me. Never had this problem with a previous car.

Not carpeted
I didn't realize that the car did not have carpeting until I got it home the next day. Everything in the car was black and the emphasis with the dealer was the controls. I've never heard of a car without carpeting. I have the EX. I guess because they put in a moon roof and heated seats they had to cut cost somewhere else. I scotch guard everything in the car anyway and do not have kids. The seats fit my body perfect. Overall I like the HR-V, a step down from my previous CR-V.

Poor body fit....
I have looked at 15+ of the 2016 Honda HRV's and have yet to find one that the body panels fit without having offsets. look at the area where the front of the front doors are near the front fenders both sides and you will see and feel the offsets, hopefully these can be adjusted/ aligned at the Dealerships before or after purchase. Have yet to purchase this Honda. Purchased soon after this review. Doors panels are made of cloth which soils and shows fatigue when touched, also center console and dash made with material that scratches very very easy. Have had HRV to the local Honda Dealership three or four times for dash rattles, next week will be another visit to the same Dealership for a different rattle which I have high hopes they can solve. Rear Bumper Cover is already very scratched and faded just from taking HRV to the Carwash, bumper cover is made is of very poor quality, this includes all black exterior parts but biggest issue is the rear bumper over. This additional issue has to do with the black parts that come in contact with and just between all of the door seals and all of the interior panels that are nearest the door seals have already faded making car already look OLD. Very unhappy with the rattles, rear cover, and almost all interior parts used in the 2016 HRV Model.

10-14-20:This is a small SUV which I love. I got this car when it first came out, there was waiting list or get what came in. My car color is gun metal which shows dust just like black, hard to wash due to body curves. My car is EX so it has zip on freeway, my husband loves to drive it, his car is 6 cylinder which he demands power. No complains gets 29 miles around town.

Adequate car after 2005 Priius
The outside is good, the handling is good, the controls (layout) could be better (do not hide the climate controls behind the gear shift), and the multi-function display has no problems that rewriting the software (user interface) couldn't fix. I have to reach around the gear shift to adjust climate control, and the controls have no dimples, so I have to look at the controls (away from the road) to adjust (no buttons on the steering wheel for climate). When starting the HRV, the radio (multifunction display) the display does not go to the last screen I had displayed when I shut down; every time I start the car I have to press additional buttons to get back to the useable radio display - attention to detail is important guys...

PROBLEM WITH THE RADIO
4/14/2018 2016 Honda HR-V 5DR 2WD EX-LNAVI Edmunds I am very disappointed about Honda’s treatment of their customers. I sent many letters to the dealership and to Honda itself regarding the poor quality of the radio and its sound. They never did anything about it. Even after I showed them repeatedly that their published specifications claim to have a state of the art radio that can be a joy to listen. Their answer is that the radio is performing as designed . September 12 2017 Edmunds.com Honda still refuses to replace the defective radio. I had three different experts in automobile radios review mine and they all concur that it is distorted and defective, But Honda denies that they can hear any distortion and refuses to do anything about it. ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE A second more serious problem came up. The electric parking brake comes on by itself while the car is in motion. It occurred to me once. Honda refuses to do anything about, even though they have a WARNING printed in their manual, indicating that if it occurs to take the car immediately to the dealer to correct the problem. They took the car around the block to test it and because it did not happen they refuse to do anything about it. Honda tells me that they have to observe the problem to correct it. I am not using the car to drive on the freeway because if the parking brake comes on while I am driving at freeway speeds, it could be a disaster. Honda does not care about that possibility and has refused to do anything about it. It has been more than a year since I have asked them repeatedly to correct the problem. Edgar Romo SEE ADDITIONAL COMMENTS AFTER THE FIRST COMPLAINT: PROBLEM WITH THE RADIO After purchasing the HR-V 5DFR 2WD EX-L, and while on my way home I turned on the radio and was greeted with a distorted sound on AM stations, on FM stations and when playing CDs. On the next day, I took the car back to the dealership and I was told that the radio was working as designed. One week later with 140 miles on the car I took it back again and I asked the customer service department to check the radio for distorted output. I left the car with them and they told me they would call me back later with results. They call me in the afternoon to inform me that the radio was working as design and there was nothing they could do to it to change and they were not able to verify my complaint. I have since made several recordings from the radio’s AM station, FM stations and when played back it is obvious that the distortion is very high and some times it makes the output unintelligible. Honda so fart refuses to accept any responsibility for this condition. Has anyone had the same experience or know how to get Honda to correct this problem? Edgar Romo 10/11/2016 Edmunds.com Thanks for your inquire about the Honda HR-V. Unfortunately, my experience with Honda and with this car has deteriorated. The radio system is distorted to the point that I do not turn the radio on any more when driving. I have gone to Honda three times to ask them to do correct the problem and they refuse to do anything about it. After the third visit, they now deny that they hear the distortion, something that was obvious and accepted in the first two visits. Now they claim they cannot hear any distortion. I took the car to four different car audio specialists to ask them to diagnose my problem and all four of them detected the problem right away. Honda refuses to write in my complain about a defective radio, they told me that they will not acknowledge that I brought the car in with a complaint of a defective radio. Now there is no record at Honda that I have a car with a defective radio and that I have tried to have Hoda correct the problem. Edgar Romo.

Defective Transmission
Cute car but make sure to trade it in prior to hitting 60K miles. The CVT transmission has issues that Honda is not willing to acknowledge yet. At 69K miles, my 2016 HRV abruptly started revving the engine as if it were in neutral at 60 mph on the highway. All lights on the dashboard came on and N was flashing. Fast forward ... bring in to Honda and the transmission has metal shavings in it. Replacement $6,800. Definitely take the time to read the Honda forum on this issue, as there are many people that had the exact same experience with this vehicle. My first and last Honda.

’16 Honda HRV, not bad, just good
After stalking and researching this vehicle for a year since its release in summer 2015, I finally own it… well it is financed. I must say I enjoy the car and everyone that has the opportunity to ride along with me always ask – is this a Honda CRV and always entertained or thinks the rear door handle location is pretty cool. PROS ** Fueling up is easy on the purse ** Space is more than sufficient for my 2 French Mastiffs or 3 adults and I. ** Miles per gallon is average on these Atlanta street and highways. I have not really got to the 33 mph, most I can get when oil quality is 50% of better is 28.6 MPG and when oil is at 40% 27.7 MPG. ** Bluetooth feature a plus, connects to my phone without any issues. ** Navigating out of a small space – exceptional – turning radius is on point. CONS ** Headlights illumination is not great when traveling up a slight to extreme incline; visibility covers about 5-10 feet ahead of your vehicle (could be more). The directional of the light appears more downward toward the pavement illuminating right below the license plate/bumper area if other vehicle. ** Seats are moderately comfortable but would not recommend for long distance road trips if you have back issues. ** Extremely bouncy on poorly paved roads ** USB port is not compatible with my android phone and it cannot be used as a charge port for mobile devise. ** Cabin noise is horrible on certain areas of the HWY in Atlanta when traveling 50 ++ mph, sounds like all the windows are down but in actuality all the windows are rolled up. ** Lining through the back of vehicle (floor panels) cheap. At the end of it all, it is mine and I will make the best of it but there is definitely room for improvement.

Perfect AWD Size; saving me $$ at the pump!
Love the size of this AWD Honda, great on gas, sits up higher than a car and has the peace of mind that Honda and AWD offers. Nice cargo space with the hatch back but lacks a little change compartment/ limited on storage compartments in the front or back seat area. The biggest disappointment thus far is the lack of technology----let me explain. The navigation system does not seem to "re-route" you if you take a different road? My phone seems to do a better job and I would really like the car nav to be just as good if not better because of the large screen and the sound throughout my car--very disappointed. It would be nice if they would have an update and also install on the 2016 models too. Another disappointment is that it can not read text messages from I phones!!?? Or emails or even email notifications!! Very disappointed once again....perhaps Honda will send out a recall for all of us to go in for a system update?" Another feature that seems a little clunky is the voice prompts? But perhaps I just need more practice? Overall I really do love this vehicle and I think it is a great value. I would just like to see Honda offer a few more bells and whistles like a heated steering wheel and a remote control start app that I can start my car from anywhere not having to be so close in case I am in the long check out line at the grocery store. I know the other ladies know where I am coming from especially those of us who live in cold weather!! The last option on my wish list for Honda would be to add the built in "booster seat" like some other high quality/safety car companies do. It makes it so nice and convient no matter who you are taking along for a ride.

3 time Honda Owner
Great sub compact SUV. Great value for price but could use better interior design and give LED headlights and fog lights instead of the yellow halogen lights from the 1990’s. Had to install after market LED lights for both head and fog lights. The drive for this 2016 Honda HR V Ex AWD is ok feels like a civic. Could have given more horsepower instead of 140 in a SUV. You hear the wind noise driving. So better insulation for this as well. I’m a car lover so for me I would give this an overall rating of a 4 star.

HRV exceeds expectations.. Until you use the radio
I got this car out of college, coming from my parent's 2006 Lexus RX330 (it was old but it was a tank, befitting of a 16 year old). Most of my driving in cities, taking trips under 5 miles. Turn radius is excellent, you'll think you're in a smaller car. Parking-including parallel, is a breeze. Both cameras are excellent, the backup has a wide view so you can see the periphery and lanewatch lets you change lanes without turning your head. Brake hold is amazing, and I don't know why this wasn't a feature decades ago. I can actually take my foot off the brake at a stoplight and not worry. In the city, I averaged about 13mpg in the RX(rated 16). In the HRV I average about 24 (rated 27). Taking road trips (~65mph), I would average about 24 in the RX (rated 22), and I get about 33 in the HRV (Rated 31). I'm averaging 27 for the life of the car (9months, 8k miles). The best I've gotten on the highway is 36 after driving about 2 hours at 65mph. 2WD mileage is likely better. Acceleration is fine. It's not as fast as my family's now illegal Jetta TDI, but it's comparable to the RX. I've never had problems passing on the highway; it's just not impressive if you ever go pedal to the metal. Acceleration is improved in sport mode (keeps the engine at a higher RPM), but you lose about 5mpg. As for ECO mode, I've noticed AC it gets severely nerfed. If you live somewhere warm you'll want to keep ECO off. In cruise control, ECO mode is also lackluster. Resuming to 65mph from a full stop at a stoplight took about 25 seconds-in this time 18 cars passed me on the left. I didn't know why it was so slow until I turned ECO mode off-suddenly cruise control accelerated at an acceptable rate. It's fine if you're maintaining speed, but if you have to slow down or come to stops on a long trip, you'll want to turn ECO off. I also haven't noticed a significant increase in efficiency in ECO mode; at best it might be 1-2mpgs. For the interior, space is great. I'm 6' and it's "almost" tight, I have the seat as low as possible, but I still fit comfortably. Backseat space is excellent. Easily fits 5+carry-ons. Magic seats are excellent. I was able to fit an entire queen bed frame (disassembled) in the car by folding the seats down. Every time I'm packing a ton of stuff I'm amazed by how much space this car has; sometimes I wonder if there's some voodoo going on. Interior build quality is excellent. I have the cloth seats (leather was not work $4k to me), and I appreciate the soft touch materials. It makes it a lot more comfortable than than the hard plastic materials in the jetta. The fo-leather on the dash looks stylish. It's hysterical to watch some new passengers try to figure out where the back door handles are. My biggest issue is the entertainment controls. They are terrible. TERRIBLE. Changing sources takes 2-4 touchscreen presses, and some buttons are so small you have to take your eyes off the road to look. Climate controls are slightly better since it's black on white, which is easier to see in your peripheral. Still not great. I find myself relying on the steering wheel controls to control volume and other audio functions. That's not a story of "Great! The steering buttons work fantastic!"; it's a story of "The touchscreen is so bad that I'm taking every opportunity to avoid it". It's also unintuitive-I find it easier to change something myself than explain the layout to a passenger. I did buy a phone mount that snaps onto the air vent and offers wireless charging to my phone, and I connect over bluetooth. That works like a charm, and it lets me easily change audio sources within my phone (podcast republic, pandora, spotify, etc) and use google maps. Connecting my wireless charger, I did notice one big drawback-the ports. My EX comes equipped with a car outlet, two USB ports, and a HDMI input. first off, the HDMI is worthless. It lets you pump something to the display, but only when the car is stopped. I don't see any point in connecting something like a laptop to a SMALLER screen. If you want it for the audio, just use bluetooth. The USB ports don't provide enough power to charge a cell phone. They're meant for data only (mp3 hookup). This perplexes me both because EVERYONE is going to try to charge their cell phone from those ports, and NO ONE is in a scenario where they'll benefit from 2 MP3 hookups. I dunno what they were thinking, and I had to get a usb adapter for the power socket. In conclusion, this is a great car for the city and highway. I just got my first oil change, and have had no maintenance or repair issues other than the tow hook cover coming off in a wash ($100? really?). It gives you headroom without sacrificing MPGs. The electronics need some redesigning for usability, but for its price point, the HRV is a 9/10, magical automobile. Give me android auto and it'll be a 10/10.

Road Noise!
I really wanted to get this car. Very practical! Amazing seats that fold up! Great for the city with decent miles. I test drove this car three times. The road noise is unbearable. If you are stuck in rush hour with this car you will have serious headaches. I am not sure if its the CVT or just engine noise. The interior is very nice and i like the way it looks over the CRV. I have owned honda cars forever and this CVT/Engine noise is going to have me looking at other car makers. I am going to hold off for the 2017 to see if they fix these issues.

Smooth roomy ride
I read the reviews before buying. Seems like the main negative comment was acceleration. I don't have any issues with that. I love the heated seats. It's comfy, great on gas and looks nice. My negative comment is not enough storage compartments in the front.

Great car, almost the perfect value
Well, I really love this car. Two things I don't like are the hard plastic dashboard which sounds very hollow when you top on it. There could have been some sound dampening material put there. Also, the road noise for what you're paying for .... honda could have easily made the cabin more quiet from road noise, in city and highway. Sport mode is pretty fun and the care is just very attractive and practical. However, I think the Subaru XV Crosstrek is the better value. I'm 6 feet tall and when I sit in the back my head literally almost touches the ceiling, so I'm a little bummed about that.
Woderful & Lovable Car
This is my first car in USA. I really loving it and enjoying each ride. I bought the base version but it has all the important features on it. Pros: 1. Smooth handling and gets good control over the car even in big curves and sharp turns. 2. High class interiors - it makes me feel like i'm driving a Costliest car. Good car in less Price. 3. More cargo space & rear seat space. Nice car for big families with more than 1 children with booster seats. 4. Electronic parking brakes are good and easy to use. Cons: 1. Personally i feel that the steering handle is little bit thin for this big car. But this is not a major problem, we can get rid of this by putting a leather wrap on it. Overall hats off to Honda for launching the brand new HR-V into the market. All the best for the new HR-V buyers..

My little HR Vie
Nice small crossover for its class with plenty of trunk space. Biggest downer on this vehicle is the trunk door. It is heavy and someone who is short like myself has a hard time closing it. Need two hands to close the door shut which is difficult if you have other things you are carrying. The car needs a power lift gate and should have been included in the EX-L trim.

Great Great car!!
I am absolutely in love with this vehicle! It is the first brand new car that I have had and I absolutely made the right choice! I would not have wanted any other car after test driving this one! I bought it from Piedmont Honda in Anderson, SC and they were absolutely amazing! Before I started looking at this vehicle I was looking at a Honda Accord and then this vehicle caught my eye. I started to looking at it and I saw that it was very roomy. I test drove this car and after that there was no going back. I knew that I was leaving with this car. The price was not bad I thought for a brand new car of this quality. I have always heard fantastic things about Hondas and the reliability. Before this car, I had a Toyota and that was the biggest piece of crap I had ever had. Every time I turned around it was always needing something. This Honda is the best vehicle ever. I do not have kids yet, but when I do I know this car will still be great! It is awesome on gas. My boyfriend and I drive it everywhere and I can go a whole week without having to stop for gas and it cost no more than $25 to fill up. I highly recommend this car to anyone!!

No Complaints
Owned 5 years and like it. 37-42 MPG Highway, about 32-35 MPG in town. Drives great, comfortable, just big enough. Wish it had more interior storage compartments, and an engine temp gauge (just has warning lights), and more storage compartments. Only problem so far was a bad tire. Took it to dealer to get a $20 tire repair and was told I needed a new tire. $265 later, I left with a new tire. Later found that the dealer charged more than $48 more than other places for the same exact Michelin tire. I expected the dealer to charge more, but not THAT much more. Lesson learned: never, ever buy tires from a dealer... To update this review: battery dead after 3 1/2 years. Tire and battery both replaced, and neither is Honda's fault. Just did the 30K service (even replaced the brake fluid for some reason?) spent a good bit but now I should be good for another 5 years.

Engine hasitation
I just changed a toque converter @5800 miles because it shake when I park for red light. After changing the toque converter, it improve. However, I also found that when I hit the break from 40 rpm to 10 rpm, and then accelerate from 10 to 20, 25 rpm, the car (engine) almost stop and you can feel that the something switch between 10 to 20 rpm. Is this right? It bothers me a lot. Another issue of this car is windows. All windows feel loose a little bit. You can shake the windows when they are down 1/2 of windows.

at the 35000 mile mark
The fancy floormat upgrade was a bad decision. Such soft rubber my heel tore a hole through it in less than 3 months... Acceleration only seems bad right off the bat from being so used to other vehicles... once the 'comparison bias' wore off, its zippy enough in sport mode. Agree that the touch climate controls are unresponsive and having to look at them is annoying. Didnt think I'd mind but I seem to. Love the magic seats. Would have loved the gauges to have a way to switch between english and metric. Love the maintenance notifications. Super love the backup and turn cameras. Engine way quieter than a prius under load and the CVT behaves really well. They need to get on the ball with android integration for that touchscreen, and though its nice to finally have a car that can play mp3 files from a usb stick directly, it would be nice if the sound suite could catch up to modern software technology and offer features like pitch and tempo bending like my maple app does. Would have liked roof rack to be standard issue, not top tier. Even kia soul gives you the roof rack, man!

Don't buy a Honda Hr-V
Had the car for 8 months, 11,000 miles. All of a sudden the battery light went on and a warning to check the charging system came on. Took it to the dealer. They said there was a malfunction in the censor but the car was fine. Two days later I was driving home and the whole car died!! Nothing light up, nothing works, steering wheel won't turn. This is the worst car I have ever owned. Will never buy a honda again!

So not worth it
I bought this car in oct/2015 and my ac has already stopped working. I took it in to pepboys to have the oil changed and have them look at the ac to see what was going on. they said there was nothing wrong and to go to Honda and have the warranty cover it. I took it in to Honda and they said a rock hit the air compressor and that's why it wasn't working. I went online to do some research and guess what I find..... the Honda cr-v has the same issue due to placement and Honda has yet to fix the issue or recall it. this repair will cost me 800$. I am beyond livid since i bought this car. i had a tow hitch installed they never screwed the tail lights back in i had to do it because of the rattle, they chipped the paint because they left the screws on the tailgate and closed it on the screws, the trunk will not always open when i try. and now the customer service it atrocious. i want everyone to know how bad Honda has treated me when they know they are in the wrong. ohhh and yes even better the compressor that they ordered to put in my car was defective so now i have to wait til at least tues to get the car back. and they cant get me a loaner car because they have a 65 person waiting list. this is the most absurd thing i have ever heard. never again will i buy a Honda.

wear your earplugs
I really like this car but the poor acceleration and loud engine are real cons for this car. Why honda would not put a bigger engine in this car are beyond me. When I test drove it up a hill I actually thought the engine sounded like it was going to blow up. It's the same engine that's in the Fit, a lighter smaller car. I think the HRV needs more horsepower.

Windshield defrosting.
Poor design in windshield defrosting system. Blower needs to be set at 3 or higher to clear inside windshield of fog buildup. Upper corners and door glass on all doors stay foggy. And this is with outdoor temperatures above 32 degrees.
