GAS in Oil - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND -
Update after 2 years: Dealer updated software to fix the gas in oil. I noticed gas in the oil and returned to dealer to report the condition. The dealer refused to document the condition saying this is what Honda recommends which means they don't truly have a fix. Love the vehicle but wouldn't recommend the engine. I have had 2 hondas that have lasted over 200K. The 2018 CRV is a ghost waiting to turn into a nightmare. The gas in the oil is real and regardless of Honda claiming is normal that is false. No engine can handle oil dilution without having a premature bearing surface wear problem and oil seal problems in the future. The engine life will be reduced that is a fact. No one can say by how much since the engines don't have enough mileage yet. The other downside is the oil with added gas requires the oil to be changed more frequently. I have smelled gas in the oil with 50 miles on a fresh oil change and with a little over a 1000 miles the oil level is so high it makes you want to change it. I'm afraid the earthdreams engine design will require a major redesign. Look on utube and do some searching you will find everyone is complaining. it is not an isolated event to the cold northern states. It is happening in hot Tx, Mo, Ar, Fla., Tn.... I wish I didn't buy this vehicle. Honda has no fix for the problem.

Great car overall, except for gas in oil
A lot of good things to say about the 2018 CR-V. I have the EX-L model, a great set of safety features, a good amount of room, pretty good stereo. But... Infotainment center is poorly designed, Honda focused too much on getting rid of physical knobs, so nearly everything requires several clicks on the touchscreen, including controlling where you cabin air goes. REALLY? Hopefully, in the 2019, they will greatly simplify the operation, so it is less of a safety hazard operating the climate control or sound system. But the really big problem is OIL IN THE GAS. There are several symptoms that go with this: heater very slow to warm up in winter; rising engine oil levels; smell of gasoline on the dipstick, and sometimes in the passenger cabin. Honda has recalled over 100,000 CR-Vs in China for this problem, but is downplaying it in US and Canada. Getting a turbo that runs on regular fuel seemed like a real bonus. Except it doesn't run WELL on regular fuel. In fact, this may be a major contributor to fuel in the oil. I've found running premium fuel provides much better engine performance, and possibly a decrease in the oil contamination problem. If you plan to buy, REQUIRE the dealer to throw in a 100,000 mile, 8 year warranty to cover engine and electronics. Let them know you are aware of the engine problem, and if THEY have faith in the car they build, they will stand behind it with a longer warranty.

Gas in my engine oil
Bought a new car but was not expecting these issues with this car. I understand people do not typically respond to these forums unless there is a issue that was not satisfactorily resolved. Here is mine. At 4500 miles, started looking into first oil change, I change my oil every 5000 so I look at the color of the oil and its was black with consistency of water, and about 1 -1.5 qt above the full mark. Take into dealer and they claim, "Overfilled at factory, no problem here." I told them about the gas smell, they told me no gas here, was told " if there was a problem, Honda would of told us." Investigated on line, found oil-dilution problem on Earth Dreams engine. China and JAPAN stopped shipment, Canada required Honda to do something major, not sure what. Crickets from Honda USA. Gasoline is getting into oil possibly through the piston rings from the injectors. I'm sure my oil has lost its viscosity once diluted. Engine bearing love gasoline lubrication (sarcasm here). Honda initially tried to get away with blaming it on drivers, too many short trips, no warm-ups etc... Other problems are, engine temp gauge is very erratic. Up and down. Inside cabin will not get warm even when driving a long time. Electric steering slams up again against the rack when reaching the end of turn. Acceleration sucks. Sorry Honda, you have known about this oil-dilution issue back in early 2017 and still no fix? I'll be hard pressed to buy another Honda after this. Last Honda I had had a serious issue with they also claimed ignorance. I thought it was a one-time only issue. Clearly it was a critical component failure issue. I'm not a lawsuit kinda person but sometimes that is the only way you can get their attention.

Uninformed Dealers
Loved the car but unfortunately after researching it Honda has a Oil Dilution problem on 1.5L Turbo charged engines. No permanent fix available yet. Dealers tell me no such problems exist and have never heard of the issue. Very dishonest salesmen at the Honda dealerships in my area. Will buy a Toyota instead.

Don't ignore the oil dilution problems
Hope this helps you avoid the mistake that I made with this car. After reading a few reviews about gasoline in the oil in their 1.5L Turbo engines, I assumed that Honda had resolved the problem and purchased one in September 2018. Unfortunately, I'm having the same issues that so many others have reported. Honda is not being truthful (check their Youtube video where they say that gasoline oil dilution is perfectly normal), they say that it only happens in cold weather and on short drives (neither seem to be true), and their software programming fix which was first rolled out in China does was later cancelled and does not appear to be helping. They aren't fixing US CR-Vs yet, instead still claiming that there is no problem. In the mean-time, I'm changing the oil often hoping that it will help, but gasoline in the oil must be bad for an engine. It's a shame because the rest of the car is so good with great room, good features for the money.
