fine car
My wife and I love this car. drives and handles wonderfully. Especially now with gasoline prices rising dramatically the savings are enormous. highly recommend this car, if you can find one. a year later, no change. we gas up (only 8 gallons) about every four months.

Three Plus Years In
Still love this car. My wife has an Accord, and I have a Clarity base model, though I drive hers on occasion. My favorite thing on this car is being able to do most of my daily driving in EV mode. I average about 120 e-mpg as a result. However, this car does have to be "managed", meaning, you should know what mode to put the car in before you set out. Normal, Eco, HV, and Sport, but HV can be combined with all but Eco. The car is pretty silent in EV mode, and less noisy than my wife's Accord while in HV Mode, and even in "HV Charge" mode (which some complain about). I find the acceleration to be reasonably brisk, especially in Sport mode. Its as heavy as an SUV (3700 pounds), but not top heavy, so takes a curve without breaking a sweat. Much has been said about the Entertainment system being antiquated. I didn't buy it for that, and I find Apple CarPlay to make the matter mute. I do care about the audio quality, and that is pretty decent. Much has been said about the styling of the car, but I definitely like the styling. I bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty, out to 100,000 miles. I did this because car repairs have ratcheted up since the Pandemic, and decided the $2500 extra was good insurance against inflationary surprise repair bills.

2021 Clarity Base
I am extremely happy with my Clarity for many reasons. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet. The engineering that Honda put in this vehicle is amazing - there are about 9 different drive modes from ECON to SPORT to HV each handles slightly differently. I mostly drive in ECON and it has more than enough power for my needs including merging onto the highway. SPORT is very fast and I don't need it really. So far I have had my car for 1100 miles and I have only used 3 gal. of gas since I charge after driving either at home on a 110 outlet or at a public charging station and the 50 or so miles (depends on temperature) is plenty for most of my driving. If the battery gets used up it automatically goes into Hybrid mode and will use a combination of gas and electric. But the ride and handling are really outstanding! The trunk is also quiet roomy and I could fit my mountain bike in there with the trunk closed. The only downside I can think of is in the winter the battery range is reduced due to the cold temps and using the heater so you won't get 50 miles of range in cold temperatures but it is still a great car. I get excited every time I go for a drive! I think this car is an amazing value given the current tax credits offered.

Car for today and the future.
This car offers the best of two worlds. Hybrid design for very good mpg with gasoline. 17 kwh battery and electric motors for quiet and serene driving in city and highway with outstanding mpg. And good size inside offers room and comfort for 5 with a great ride in all weather conditions.

what a ride!
After much research on electric and hybrid cars I found the best of both worlds in the Clarity. The ride is exceptional, the cabin is thoughtfully designed. As someone who drives for work, the hv charge feature and ability to transfer power back to the battery when driving are really impressive. fuel costs are negligible $10 for half a tank, and charging at home after midnight is about $4. My overhead is now almost zero. It’s a pity Honda discontinued it this year.

Comfortable, dependable, economic.
Have had the Touring plug in hybrid and it has been an excellent vehicle all around. That pinion remains. Purchased for about 28K new thanks to 6K discount as they had trouble selling it in 2019! Good visibility, comfortable, quiet in electric. Like that if going forward very slowly it chimes. Very good rear camera. Signals if drift into another lane, and good brake warning. Entertainment system ok. Ideal for listening to podcasts or books on iPhone. Navigation system works fine. Understand from a relative with a RAV-4 that Toyota charges a fortune (>$500) for map updates, and Honda dealer told me I’d get free maps for lifetime from Honda, so that helped to sway me toward Honda, rather than a plug-in Toyota / Prius. Pretty much stick to Eco mode. Trunk space more than adequate. Design; like the rear wheel partial tire coverings as they decrease drag. Wish had front/ side video options, and a means on the dash to track how many miles on the internal combustion engine, as some boat engines do. Put a device that cost about $12 on the engine to do that when look under the hood. Comfortable driving, and responsive to steering and acceleration. Contacted local Carey Paul Honda near Atlanta asking by phone, another time by chat, about a new one different times, but they never got back to me. They made generic asks to buy it back, always below what I could get myself, we’re I inclined. Cease of production, a shame. Took back deposit on a Model 3 Tesla as that would have run quite a bit when adding the trimmings, and didn’t care to pay extra to get a color besides black, and support an irrational that spreads lies, while paying less tax than I do.

Comfortable and fun to drive
I’m 3 months in on my 2021 Clarity and everything about this car has been excellent. The electric-only range is up near 60 miles in nice weather, the driving experience is comfortable and smooth, and certain features that I was skeptical about — like hybrid charge mode —work very well. Most of my dislikes are totally trivial: the cup holders are clunky and the lack of a volume knob is occasionally awkward. Oh well. But the back seat is roomier than comparably priced suvs, the trunk is plenty spacious, and I’m finding that the car has way more acceleration than people give it credit for, both from zero and when passing on the highway. I’m only 3 months in, but I’m loving it.

Love this car
Going on 6 months with the Canadian touring version. I really love everything about it. The car suits our needs and the gas consumption is really almost nothing. We do 90% of our driving in the suburbs which allows us to get under 1L per 100 Km overall average, all of the gas being used on a few longer trips. It's really like having an electic with the option of longer range with gas assist when needed. My only deceptions with the car is that it has no electrical seats, the used battery warmer instead. I would have liked both. The other is the Honda link app, it is quirky but eventually comes around.

Almost perfect depending on your needs
We purchased a Clarity and owned it for approximately 2 years but sold it and purchased a BMW 530e. The Clarity is a great car, with great build quality and is really comfortable. The problems we experienced living in Southern California is if we wanted to go on any long trips (which usually means mountains getting out of the San Diego area) is that the Clarity is very underpowered. The engine would really have to rev to keep up speed in the mountains and then your mpg would really suffer plus it just was not a pleasant driving experience. If you live in an area where the roads are not taking you through the mountains or just drive around town this would never be an issue. We have owned the BMW 530e for about a year now and our blended mpg is about 49 mpg and it has really impressive power so it fits our needs better. I understand we are talking about different price points and although we loved the Clarity and I think it would work great for many people for our needs it just fell short. If Honda were to increase the power and give it a slightly bigger gas tank (maybe another 3 gallons) it would be close to perfection.
Best Honda Ever
I have owned two Honda Clarity. The best plug in vehicles ever. All are made in Japan and this Clarity never give me any mechanical issues. So sad I have to return my lease Clarity today but it is ok can not wait for the new Prelude to be my next ride.

stodgy, not nearly as responsive as previous Honda
I've been driving Hondas since 1991. I first was attracted by the reliability, and the comfort and tight handling. First an accord, followed by a civic. Was thinking about a plug in or all electric vehicle, so test drove a clarity. It just felt loose, not as tight in its handling as previous cars. so I left it on the lot
