Wow !!
I have a 2007 Honda Civic. I researched the 2017 Hatchback before purchase. I've had it for a few days and love it! It feels solid and surprisingly the acceleration has pep! I'm not computer savvy but have been able to navigate the computer controls and settings with ease. I got the EX model. Just don't get suckered in at the dealer! Read Edmunds advice on B.S. Fees at the dealer and other new car buying advice. Also don't go over 3% of invoice price! If the dealer doesn't want to negotiate go to another one. I'm a female and went in on my own and told them exactly what I would pay and not pay. I was firm and they knew it. I got my new Hatchback with the price I wanted to pay!

Honda's Winner
Great car with euro styling not a typical boring japanese style of the past models, fun to drive, relatively quiet inside, lots of features even on base LX model. Handsfree blutooth phone connection works well with most phones including older generation LG G2, even budget Blu phones. I like the smaller screen on the LX model and has everything I would need and is easy to navigate plus it has good 'ole dials for selection and volume control which is what I prefer instead of ackward touch screen volume control on upper models. I am 6'2" and there is plenty of leg room in front and in back seats. Very good size trunk also. Acceleration is more than plenty with one or two people on board, with four adults however you can feel a slowdown. Blind spot visibility may take a week or so of getting used to due to sloping rear coupe type shape especially if you are coming from more boxy sedan designs. My MPG is roughly around 29mpg but I drive over 90% city and like zippier acceleration more often than not. With Econ mode turned on I tested and was getting 33-34mpg in city which is pretty good. On freeway it can easily do 40-43mpg.

Still The Right Car
After seven and a half years and nearly 90,000 miles, my initial review remains unchanged. This has certainly been the right car. My 17 year old son is now the proud owner and daily driver. While I'd say nothing about it is perfect, virtually everything is Still good to great. Truly exemplifies the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. The best features are the outstanding economy (best mileage to date was a pure highway trip that averaged over 52 mpg by driving a little under the 70 mph speed limit) with surprising performance when you need/want it. In addition, Only repair issues to date have been A/C -related and occurred well beyond the warranty expiration. Honda stepped up and reimbursed the first issue which was a condenser failure. I’m waiting to see if they will reimburse me for the last issue. Great car, great company so far.

Love The Ride
I have owned the Touring model for one month and use it for a weekly commute of 145 miles each way. I have enjoyed every mile. Great car to own and I have been driving for over 42 years. Owned a lot of different sport and luxury cars over the years and this is a nice combo of both. The Touring model is a few thousand more, but if I would not have purchased the Touring model, I would have always regretted it later. So far averaging 42 miles per gallon (as advertised), with a bit of a heavy foot... fun to take to the mountains (I live an hour west of Lake Tahoe) in Sport mode, but for my commute I use the Econ setting. Highly Recommend. Enjoy......

Gizmo the Gremlin, 1 year later
I'm glad I bought this car! I like all the gizmos (such as keyless entry, pushbutton start, brake assist, auto parking brake, hands free cell phone, ECO mode, backup camera, & more. . ). My old car was 10 yrs old - a lot has happened in 10 years! The car's handling can be described in one word - NIMBLE! My mileage is great - a couple of 36.5 readings (Mostly city). I just got back from a highway trip -Denver - Glenwood Springs CO. I got 44MPG!! I used only Drive and Drive with ECO button engaged, and used a light foot on the gas pedal. The main reason I bought the car was for mileage, and I didn't want a hybrid. I'll report again when I use more Sport mode and see what mileage penalty there is. One year later - I got 43mpg to Albuquerque in Drive - no Eco mode (Eco mode on freeway driving lacks power). I continue to get great mileage in town - 35 - 39 mpg, where I'm mostly using Eco mode. I haven't used Sport mode much - pickup in D is more than adequate.

AVOID BUYING IT. LOOK ELSEWHERE
I love love the my hatchback sport civic. Until about 3500 miles - the check engine light popped up and disabled all the safety features - ABS, parking breaks, etc. Brought to the dealership - was told that IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE GAS MIXES WITH THE OIL. There are no current fixes. I was told to wait until they find a solution. All they did was turn off the warning and told to observe it. WHAT?? Observe the gas mixing with the oil?? I'm currently in the process of contacting a lawyer. This is unacceptable. Take your money elsewhere until they fix this.

85,000 mile review
Along with most office people, my daily commute was eradicated during Covid. Around 78,000 miles, the AC condenser quit. Splendid! I had received an extended manufacturer warranty and my local dealer told me "No problem". After having it a day, they still said "no problem, it's covered". After another day, they advised the AC compressor also failed and none of it was under warranty. Needless to say, this experience soured me on the dealership and I have started doing my own maintenance. I'll use my hometown shop for anything that looks out of reach for me. Other than that, she finally cooked her brakes (I assume I got some rotor warping from sitting longer periods of time). I put new Michellins on also. I decided the stock continentals, although retaining awesome tread just wasn't what I was used to while driving in rain with my 2011 V6 Accord. The new ones have much more confidence in snow and rain. Power train has been flawless and so has the head unit/electronics. I want to hit 200,000 miles and I see no reason we won't make it. Previous 50,000 mile review: *Flawless. This EX-L Hatch with Navi has not had a single issue. I'm driving the wheels off it - except the Continentals' tread is still beautiful. I've had the windshield replaced due to a highway rock and I've installed an after-market stereo. I I used a Line Output Converter to keep the stock head unit/touchscreen and put a subwoofer approximately where the Sport Touring and Type R sneak it behind the rear wheel well. Other than that, it's the same as when I bought it. It seems the gas mileage has IMPROVED as the engine has been used. We've added 2 kids and a dog - The dog loves the hatch and the baby carseats weren't too hard to install with the LATCH positions in easy locations. It's an all-around no brainer. Great space. Torque off the line and always ready at highway speeds. Unbelievable gas mileage. I'd like the fun of having a stick but I'm probably better off with the CVT in traffic and balancing work calls through the Android Auto/bluetooth. A++++ I'm on track to hit 200,000 unless I get seduced by the rumored lower profile Type R that may be coming out in 2020.

Trumps luxury brands, even from Honda's own acura
You can get a great sound system with subwoofer (almost the same thing you get on ILX top ELS version), a powerful yet very efficient turbo engine that is both snappy and stingy on gas, great styling inside and outside, top tech including self steering that lets you take your hands off the steering wheel for a few good seconds even in a turn, adaptive cruise that takes the car to full stop and restart going in stop and go traffic. And apple and android car play that takes the entertainment system to another level. Can't find the same combination not in any luxury brand today.

I love my Hatchback Sport Manual
Update 3 year, 70k miles. Very impressed for many reasons, and enjoy the hatchback option. 1) Perfect Reliability. Feels as solid and Day 1. No rattles, Just oil changes done. 2) I am still impressed how this car handles. No body roll, handles great even with bad tires. With great tires it would be a charm. 3) High resale value 4) Gas mileage avg around 32mpg with mixed driving. City only 28mpg . Mostly highway 35, only highway on trips, I see 40mpg. Amazing! Cons. 1) Very noisy due to little sound insulation, if any. People have trouble understanding me on Bluetooth due to Wind Noise. 2) Radio is very basic. Not loud at all. Sounds like an upgrade to my Amazon Echo. 3) AC is not the coldest. I still love this car. Highly Recommend It! I still like the looks of it, even though it doesn’t look like a Bankers car, it looks more like a college girl’s. Very impressive car! I have had cars that triple the price and I am impressed! It feels relatively quick, stable around corners, great steering 90 mph on the highway is rock solid. It is really a Fun car! Years back I read something true. It is funner to drive a slow car fast, rather than a fast car slow. Negatives 1)The mirrors create alot of wind noise at speed. 2)The plastic handles to close the trunk are really plastic and delicate. 3) 1st gear is extremely short.

the best civic yet
this is the best civic i have owned ,and being i have had 4 others i do have a base to go by. with out a doubt this is the most pleasing to drive. its quiet , stable ,quicker than expected , even with the cvt trans....the seats are a little firm ,and a knob for volume and fan would be nice , other than that it is a perfect commuter , i drive 60miles a day to work ,half city ,half hwy. , i get an average mpg of 34. even with 80 mph on the hwy. and 30+ red lights in town....all being said ,there is room in the boot for odd and ends , i am 6ft and can sit up in the seat with out rubbing the roof ,that cant be said for the other 4 UPDATE its now 2022 and i traded my for a crv .....nothing wrong with the civic and it did what a good car is supposed to do. it ran great , i have nothing bad to say about the car. i put 78,000 miles on it and it drove like new when i traded it in .it was one of only three cars that i have had that i will miss out of 20 or so

Euro styling & performance
The Civic Hatch is a great option if you want good fuel economy, power, eye-catching styling, and the versatility of an SUV in a compact package. My EX-L w/nav averages 39 mpg and has plenty of power. My only complaint, after owning several SUVs, is getting in and out of it isn't as easy, but if you're used to a car, it isn't an issue. The interior quality is excellent--great finishes, but I would recommend either getting the leather (EX-L) or getting an after-market kit with leather for the door inserts and the center console; the EX I test drove was already showing smudges on the cloth in those areas. I think the cloth seats would hold up fine, though. The leather package is the same as the CR-V Touring package and looks great. Interior ride is quiet and comfortable. The car handles great and is fun to drive.

Beyond Happy
In the last few years, I've had a Lexus IS, a Camry, a Prius, and a Lexus CT. This car is the best combination possible of all the things I liked about those cars. The fuel economy is great (consistently 32/41). It's roomy. It has wonderful cargo space. The interior is as nice as or nicer than the 2 Lexus vehicles. The ride is smooth. It's sporty with really peppy acceleration (really fun when I took it to the mountains). Every single feature I could possibly want except for ventilated seats (but the perforated leather is nice). I could not be any happier with a car. Update: It just keeps getting better. I've had no negative issues at all. This car is a total keeper.

Wife got a ticket!
My wife came home from the airport on our country road zipping along at 77 in a 55. She admitted she was having too much fun driving this car. The cop told her it took a while to catch up with her. This car is just zippy and accelerates around town like a gem. Such a pleasure to drive and tool around in. Cannot say enough about how fun honda made this car to drive. 35mpg mixed driving. Sport mode in the CVT is a fantastic feature. This car is a total blast. Can't give it a perfect review cuz the radio controls are touch screen which is a major hazard. Also, gotta plug your phone in twice almost everytime to get carplay to connect. Bizarre. Car continues to be a gem. 4th year in at 50k miles. No issues.

Sweet sassy ride/ electronics disappointing
Great car love the hatchback electronics/technology need some work. No volume knob - I believe is fixed in 2018's stereo volume seems to randomly change - lost all my presets last night and have never disconnected the battery. Climate fan control should also be a knob and not electronic. Apple Car Play cool - need USB charger for rear passengers Overall love the car: my updated review has to lower my initial review due to the electronics. More is not always better: randomly lose all my presets: Apple Car Play not yet perfected and if electronics goes out and needs to be rebooted you lose access to your climate controls since they are all electronic also: love the ride but frustrated with the electronics

Nice car with some reservations
I traded a 2015 Honda Fit for my 2017 Sonic Grey Civic hatch. I loved the Fit, it was manual shift and I drove it 25000 miles in just under a year. But I saw the Civic hatch in the Sonic grey and had to have it. In retrospect, I wish I'd kept the Fit, and here's why. 1. the seats - the Civic seats just aren't as comfortable to me as the Fit's were. My wife agrees. 2. I'm not old but I'm not young anymore, and getting in and out of the Civic is a chore. You sit on the ground, or so it feels. 3. I've got some rattles in the Civic, driving on our lovely Michigan roads, and I never heard any rattles in the Fit. 4. Wind noise - the Fit had less of it. Heck, even my 1997 Ford Ranger has less wind noise in a good crosswind. 5. slight vibrations - between 55-65mph, not all the time, not every day, but its there. Friend of mine rode in it the other day, asked my why it was 'shimmying'. It concerns me, because I've heard other stories about Honda CVT trannys doing this. HOWEVER - the good - its not all bad!!! I absolutely love the power delivery with the turbo 1.5 and the CVT transmission. The car accelerates very smoothly (and quickly) and always seems to be in the right 'gear' for the situation. Really works well. Fuel economy is very good, I average 38mpg in mixed driving and I have never turned on the econ setting. Cargo room is fantastic, we brought home a very large powered recliner one day that my wife said 'it'll go in the car' but I didn't believe her. It fit in the car no problem! Finally, the car looks great - its why I bought it. I love the Sonic grey color. But to sum up - the Fit I wanted to drive every day, and put 25K on it in a year. The Civic I've had 6 months, and I've put 5K on it. I drive my old Ford Ranger more. Can't explain exactly why, but the Civic just doesn't 'connect' with me. I will likely trade it very soon.

Nice car for the money
Consider upgrading to leather seats for the adjustability. In our experience Honda leather seats look like [non-permissible content removed] after about 6 years. I like cloth seats so I opted for the ex, but after a month in the car I wish I had more adjustments on the drivers seats. Other than the seat issue I like the combination of nice features and the lower cost of the ex model. Looked closely at Mazda 3 and Subaru empreza. Ruled out impreza, similar equipped Subaru cost more, did not need or want all wheel drive. Mazda was close second and nice car for the money but the closest dealer was just a Hassle to get to and the Honda had more zip from the turbo charged motor.

Honda, I Give Up!
I owned (leased) the 2017 Civic Hatch EX for over 3 years now. Love the look and even interior styling. People complain about the volume button but I found it to be a mute issue because I just use the volume button on the wheel. The real issue is this the most times I've been to the mechanic for this car vs the last 12 years of owning vehicles which I'll explain below. Honda refuses to acknowledge the problems, reimburse, or even provide discounts on the lease return. The GOOD: -Style -Drive. Really fun and nimble. Terrific pick up. Except it likes to skid a bit too easy. -Hatch versatility. Moved a table, 6 full chairs, and bookcase in one trip -Walk-away lock feature. So convenient. Other companies don't have it. The BAD: - Driver's seat comfort. ZERO lumber support. Long drives (2+ hours) are just impossible and I'm a 5'9" yoga teacher with no back issues. Yet. -Tires pop easy. Went through 4 tires in about 1.5 years in NYC. Just not a city car. Terrible suspension with low tire walls. -MAJOR AC ISSUE: Air Conditioning started blowing warm air 2.5 years in (40k miles). I went through many forums. There are 100's like me. It's a huge issue that Honda refuses to acknowledge and make a recall. It's past warranty so they won't fix it free for me. Cost ~$1200. - TMPS Monitoring system: Light went on 2.5 years on a routine tire rotation at reputable shop. Back to the forums... Many have the same issue. The system is flawed. No real issue, just annoying light. And if a tire does blow, bad news for me. -Audio system rattle: The casing is crap. Rattles when any bit of bass plays at half volume. The shop couldn't do a thing - after 3 "replacements". I hacked it myself by adding some cushion insulation by the edges. TLDR: This is my 3rd Honda. STAY AWAY. Expect issues. Sadly, this isn't the only Honda model with consistent issues. They are just not reliable anymore.

EX-L w/ Navi
Why anyone would spring for the sport or sport touring version of this hatch for an extra 6 horses is beyond me as you're signing up for having to purchase premium fuel for the life of your ownership, as well as getting inferior fuel economy. You can't even feel the modest increase. Yeah, the exhaust setup looks nice but imo it's too aggressive looking - save that for the type R or Si. Anyway - overall very happy with purchase - fuel economy in mixed driving hitting a little under what it's rated for - I'm hoping that changes. Not a huge fan of the honeycomb faux vents on the rear bumper but I bought black so they blend in better than other colors. I love the overall design of this hatch, and although typically prefer a good M/T over an automatic, I'm pretty impressed by the CVT on this car.

Have only ever had Honda’s. This will be my last.
Immediately after I test drove this car I fell in love. It seemed like the perfect size, great gas mialage, stylish and good technology. I purchased it about a month later after shopping around some more. This car let me down as well as the dealership. There was something wrong with the passenger side tire that is popped twice within a year causeing the wheel itself, the rim and the tire all needing replacing. Each time it cost over $1200. The electric windows got stuck in the winter time. The rear lights stopped working causing me to get pulled over, I tried to get it taken care of and they charged me to reset the entire computer system causing a pretty high bill. The build quality was embarrassing and the road noise was unbearable. Overall I wish I never got this car and truly wish Honda could win me over again. I warn everyone don’t get fooled by the brand reputation or the attractiveness of this vehicle, you will be disappointed. At this price point or just slightly higher you can get a much better quality vehicle including entry level luxury/premium cars.

Coolest Hatch on the market
The stock tires and headlights are garbage ! But the rest of the car is amazing I'm 6' 3" and this car has tons of space. It's crash test rating is through the roof, its 0-60 is ~6.2 seconds which is faster than most cars. It's passing ability is awesome with the turbo ! Really fun and peppy car to drive. I test drove the impreza, mazda 3 , and golf , and this car was definitely the most bang for your buck. the only quells are again the stock all - seasons are terrible in the snow, and the headlights aren't very bright. but the daytime running LED's are really pretty. I've gotten so many compliments on the look of this car. If you get this car get the sport package the exhaust sounds awesome at high rpms but still keeps quiet at low speeds and not to mention those 18" wheels are so sexy. I still oogle my car from my window 7 months in. I love this car.

Great and fun.
The sport in manual is the way to go. Plenty of pickup and fun to drive. The sport model is pretty bare bones but has everything you need! update: had it a year and still love it, no problems at all! Updated 07/2019: Still loving this car with no issues. MPG is great, it is quick enough and I still enjoy driving it everyday.

Love the new Civic Sport Touring Hatchback!!
I remember the days when I’d travel and rent a car and wish my own car was as good. That’s a thing of the past. Now I get back to my and it’s a relief. So many good things about this car it’s impossible to catalog them all. The 540 watt stereo is awesome!! My old Civic Coupe (2009) had a very good premium stereo but this is waaaaay better! The turbo makes this car very quick. I had my doubts about the CVT transmission but it's quite smooth and enjoyable. Purists will tell you they have to have a manual transmission to get the best performance. Pish posh! This car is fantastic without it. Had to wait to get the first blue one in Oregon but well worth the wait. The heated leather seats are great when it's cold and Doublr as a back heater if your back is hurting! My mpg is also a big jump over my previous Civic. A year and a half later I’m still seeing around 35 mpg and I’ve seen it hit 40 mpg when driving all highway miles. I switched to all premium gas since I like the extra kick it gives. What's truly amazing is that I have a much quicker car and it's significantly less expensive to run. An update after owning it for over a year: it’s a joy to drive both in town and on the highway. Did discover that if drive it faster than 80 regularly the mileage will drop and if traveling behind other cars spraying moisture up, the ACC can have trouble seeing through it if it builds up.

18 Months, >40K Miles, No Problems, Great Drive
Fantastic car, usual Honda reliability. No issues first 45K miles. 6MT and shifts easily. Hugs the road, brakes well, and with the turbo, you feel like you are driving a go-cart, it's so responsive. Routinely get >38-40 MPG, and I don't drive slowly, mainly highway driving. The interior is nice for the price level. The front carpet is thin, the dashboard is predominately plastic, but well put together and no "creaking". The LX model has a basic infotainment system, but Bluetooth reliability has been good. I listen to podcast and audiobooks and the sound system is very good to my ears. The seats are comfortable cloth. They have held up well so far. The vision out the front is excellent. You'll hear people make comments about the 1.5T gas/oil mixing but no one has shown this actually affects performance or reliability. Nice, spacious central console. AC works well and heat's up quickly in the winter. Well placed cup holders. It's a car that makes daily driving fun. What to do I wish for? No heated seats, passenger front seat has no height adjustment, that's all

Mega practical and safe car with surprising quirks
I've had my hatchback for 3.5 years and over 65k miles, and my overall impression is it's a very reliable and unbelievably practical car with great safety features. I've been mostly up and sometimes down on it for various small annoyances, but it literally saved my life and throughout my ownership has been a rock for reliability. Pros: * Hatch space with the rear seats folded is equivalent to a small truck, really * Fuel economy makes you smile..a lot * Stellar safety for a small car. I walked away with nothing but an adrenaline shot and ringing ears from a completely totaled car (sandwiched from behind by a truck). * Layout of controls is intuitive and functional * Reliability--strong start every time, never a worry * Drivability--good turning circle and agility * Very good driver and passenger space * All interior materials feel/look nice, not cheap * Of course, the overall styling and looks of the car are outstanding Cons: * I wish there was a way to perma-disable the collision avoidance system, but you have to remember to do it each time--and sometimes it won't disable even when stopped/parked. Several times the car put me and others in jeopardy because it slammed on brakes when going around a turning vehicle or when drifting up to accelerating traffic. Person behind you will curse your existence, as you curse the flurry of alarms and peel yourself off the seatbelt saying "go, go, GOOOO!!". * CVT is a huge contributor to economy but while the car is plenty powerful, it takes precious seconds for it to realize you have the pedal on the floor. Never try to cross traffic without lots of room. * Cabin build quality is sketchy. Brand new, the headliner was loose & rattled like a maraca while driving. Other unexpected rattling from tweeter covers, plastic pillar covers, and sun visors--drives you mad. You expect better from an EX. * Info-tainment system. Generally very good until you plug in a phone to charge--then it auto-switches to Android or Apple with no selection. Switch source back to radio and dare to touch a button on your phone, then you're back to listening to texts or phone games or whatever, ugh. Sometimes this happens just with bluetooth--Apple especially takes over your car, and Honda is all too accommodating. * Adaptive cruise control. If you want to follow highway traffic at 8-10 car lengths distance, this function is your friend--and that's at the lowest separation setting. Makes cruise unusable for me. So even though the cons are considerable annoyances at times, you start to predict them and work around them over time. But be warned, they'll send you a dark reminder from time to time. A couple can be avoided by not having the sensing package, which is overrated IMO. Understand I'm trying to balance my review, but I'm giving 4 stars since the cons are mostly manageable and more the fault of the designers/builders than the car itself. For just the cargo space and the fuel economy alone, I'd buy it again. But add styling, reliability, and functionality and I'll actually seek one out...without sensing this time ;)

I love this car
When I first saw the car it was love at first sight. I like the look of the exterior as well as the look and functionality of the interior. I opted for the model with Honda Sensing which is worth the extra money. The only complaint I have is the basic sound system, but I was probably spoiled by my Chevy Sonic which had a rather impressive factory sound system.

Not bad, not great spend some time in the seat
We got our civic hatchback on a lease due to some aggressive pricing at the time. We picked it over the new Subaru Impreza hatchback, Focus and Mazda 3. I am coming into this car from a 2012 skyactiv Mazda 3 touring sedan. We were looking for a hatchback that could hold an infant seat. The civic has plenty of room for our seat without adjusting the front seat which is great. We liked the interior space of the car and of course the hatchback is a huge plus. The seats almost fold flat and ease of loading junk in and out is good. Acceleration and fuel economy are both great. Ride quality is better than I thought but not as good as the Impreza. Wind and road noise is pretty good, maybe slightly above average but not class leading. Now on to the not so good. Things you may not notice on a test drive. The lack of a volume knob bothers me way more than I thought. This thing is also super hard to clean on the outside leaves and little bits get down in all the cracks and creases on the rear end. When I wash my car I have to get that junk out or it would bother me to no end. The interior is not much better the material of the seat and armrest gets dirty fast and all the spots in the overly busy dash hold dirt that can be a pain to get out. The seats are not comfortable for tall people on long drives. I am 6' tall 190lbs with a big build(broad shoulders/chest) the bolstering on the upper part of the seat puts pressure on my shoulders and the lumbar support is just a bit off. After about 30 minutes I am ready to get out and stretch. I can do hours at a time in our Outback or my work truck no problem. Its somehow manages to be quick without being fun. The mazda 3 seems to be the bench mark for fun to drive in this class and to me the civic is just lacking something in the feel even compared to now ancient Ford Focus. Yes its fast, yes it stays planted, yes it can make some fun noises but the cvt while quite good and effective at day to day driving saps all fun out of it. I can't help but feel with a manual this car would be a blast. It also lacks the feed back and just that explainable fun factor the mazda has. Overall its not a bad car perhaps its a little overly complex on the design side but if you are on the smaller side and just need something to get you to and from work this may be your car. For me I am dumping it when the lease is up and looking for something more my size.

Awesome safe sporty thrifty performer
Did a lot of research before buying. This car is an affordable quality car which is a pleasure to drive. The 2017 model is virtually identical to the 2020 model. Great looking car, with lots of safety features, lots of automated convenience features, all on top of a good performance and handling vehicle. I am delighted with my purchase.

Can't Get Much Better For $20k
I have now been leasing this vehicle for a year and it has been a wonderful car. The only downside to the vehicle is I have the larger head-unit in mine and sometimes it can fight my Apple CarPlay. When it works - which is about 95% of the time - it is AMAZING. When it doesn't work, I spend a solid 5-10 minutes restarting my car and rebooting the system over and over to get it to work properly. Other than that the only other downside to her is the interior feels very cheap and plastic. The seats are not the most comfortable either. BUT with the technology offered - Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SeriusXM, color digital gauge display, remote start, heated seats, auto lights - it is easy to overlook the poor quality and the sometimes difficult radio. Overall, for the price and cost of maintenance (a whopping $70 oil change with tires rotated) it is an excellent daily driver that is easy to fall in love with.

Isn't a Hatchback! It's a HOT-chback!
I purchased a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback EX about a month ago, and OMG, I love it! Beautiful design inside and out. Great performance, ride quality, fuel economy, roomy cabin, etc., etc., etc... I also love all the extras and the technology that this car have. Now if we talk about reliability, you know you can NEVER go wrong with Honda, they will literally last forever and the "visits" to the mechanic, pretty much non existence. Extremely happy I got this turbo-good-looking hatch!

Loving the Civic
All is great. Hard to believe that much car for the money. It has all the toys, great performance, and great gas mileage. Lovin it. One caveat...Apple CarPlay is not 100% reliable. It crashes or gets bugs every once in awhile. It could be more reliable. Great when it works.

Beware of the rear headroom in the hatchback!
I test drove an EX hatchback and eventually did *not* buy one. There was one particular aspect which gave me a pause but which many reviews seem to miss: the rear headroom. I'm tall, but nothing crazy (6ft) and when sitting in the back, my head was firmly against the ceiling. Curiously, that wasn't the case if I set completely straight, only when I reclined comfortably -- I would hit the edge of the ceiling with the back of my head. It seems that the ceiling in this car just isn't very flat and leans too much into the cabin near the edges. Considering how large this new Civic is compared to the older ones, I find this unacceptable. Note that I set in a sedan version for comparison and that one was OK -- this problem is specific to the hatchback.

BIG GUY Stepped DOWN from a 2017 TOURING ACCORD
I ve had more HONDAS thru the years than a NORMAL person would mention....This is for newly retired folks with a 16 Odessy SE for People moving..If you want overall bang for your buck value wise..and use modern smart phone GPS apps...get an Accord Sport !! In the week we've had our SONIC GREY CIVIC TOURING HB..here are my impressions...WORST FEATURE ....CIVIC HORNS literally BLOW !! They are SO WEAK and ineffective they will put you in the GRAVEYARD IF YOU EVER NEED TO BE HEAD !!! Cmon HONDA WTF !! As I said I walked out of Accord touring V6 to Civic Touring...a step Down but not a big one...all the whistles and bells..Nice 560 watts entertainment system...Engine CVT and real world performance is very nice...Hot Summer right now..A/C is very good but NOT GREAT..HANDLES very nice..definitely hear tire noise vs Accord but time will tell..EVERYTIME you're out on the HIGHWAY someone what's to play JOHNNY BOY RACER and drive like an AHOLE...Last time I had this game being played was with Mustang...Build quality fit and finish PAINT seem GOOD...No reason not to get 40 plus on road at highway speed...I THINK YOU COULD RUN IT LIKE YA STOLE IT ALL DAY LONG AND GET 20 plus...have used PADDLE shifters on other Hondas...likeable feature...PREMIUM GAS RECOMMENDED...mix it up every other or third tank should be fine..I'm a BIG DUDE and I fit in drivers AOK...pass front OK...back FOGETABOUTIT..Wife likes the MINI COOPERS...so part of the puzzle in purchase....If you can keep your foot off the gas and make smooth driving you can get AMAZING mileage with V6 sedan..non touring..have gotten 40 plus and Hi thirties when highway driving with the rat pack...I think this will be a welcome addition to the stable...THE EXT SEDAN and EX HB are very nice but several grand less...PS ACCORD INSURANCE is LESS than CIVICS....look before you leap !! A veering of the road opinion but these are initial observations....PS Wife likes mucho PSS more blind spots than Accord also..PSSS the 1.5 turbo will go in the Honda hall of fame.... 2020 Update..lease up ...replaced with identical car...new one has better headlights and lots more sound insulation...plus I had equity in lease and knocked payment down SIXTY BUCKS..LOVE BOTH 17 and 20 sport touring hatchback civic..

1.5T= POWAAAA!
This is just a first impression/ short term review so far.Civic Hatchback LX Orchid White. I only had the car about 2 weeks and have 465mi. My work is just north of 1 mile away and I just want to break it in already! For a base model car its not very... basic. Although the wheels aren't the prettiest, I appreciate that Honda didn't slap on a set of steelies w ugly hub caps. I originally wanted a Sonic Grey since my neighbor has one and it looks fantastic! Anyway, the wheels- they look best on the orchid white. I am actually not a big fan of the ex wheels so I am glad those aren't on my car. What I like- 1.5T= POWAAAA! light weight, Piano Black trim, back up camera, huge side mirrors, practicality. What I don't like- OEM Bulbs ( halogen in a projector= dim lighting), arm rest padding ( they couldn't just use soft plastic instead of cloth? ), rear window is always foggy, no foot or hand brake, muffler tips or lack thereof ( dual exhaust and they're hidden... why?), front windows are slow going up and down, Dirt easily gets between the windows. I've already ordered a set of Phillips Crystal Vision from Amazon and that will pretty much remedy my biggest gripe about the car. What I've done to it- purchased floor mats to match the beige interior, seat covers, window visors. What I plan to do- 35-55% tint, muffler tips, OEM mud guards, brighter headlight bulbs. It may seem like I have a few gripes about this car but at the end of the day; It's the best car I've ever had. If anything, I would say that the LX is actually the best bang for your money within the Civic and hatchback segment.

There are better options out there
The new Civic hatchback looks nice, but that's about it. It is very difficult to get in and out of. The seats are not very comfortable. I realize that it is a small car, but the interior is cramped compared to other small cars. It seems as if there is not enough sound insulation in the car, as the engine is very noisy. The climate controls are not readily accessible: the fan speed control is in a separate menu within the touch screen and is not centrally located. (A button or knob would be easier to use.) The cloth on the cargo cover looked to be snagged/uneven. The car is very over priced at $27,000+. You can buy a hybrid vehicle, which is more economic, for less than this non-hybrid Civic.
I don't recommend this car at all
I bought this new and sold it a year later. The bluetooth does not work, gets hung up or does not work at all. The brakes on this car are awful and you get lower back pain from the seat on long rides. This is a commuter car and that is it, add to that $120 oil changes, yes Hondas are now expensive to maintain. Also you can only get the high MPGs with mid grade fuel. I would go for a Volkswagen honestly, this Civic was not designed well. I would rather have better brakes for the winter than fake giant plastic air intakes.

Economical
If you are looking for an economical vehicle to purchase, fuel up and maintain- look no further. The Sport Hatchback may be "basic" in terms of what you get with creature comforts- but it offers enough driving satisfaction to overcome what it lacks. It's not an Audi, BMW or Mercedes Coupe, but it also can be purchased "out the door" for slightly less than sticker MSRP and with Honda reliability and fuel economy if you are bargain minded you can't really go wrong with the Civic Sport Hatchback. I've had the car 3 weeks and almost 1,000 miles- no issues.

Fix Display & Tires and you have a winner!!!
I just loved this car when I seen it. I had been looking for 3 months and test drove just about everything. I commute so I had to have a car that was good in gas mileage. The only downfalls I have had is that the Phone on the Display has had issues since day 1. When attempting to make a call, it will freeze, screen goes black and you cannot get back out of it until the car is turned off or I have had to take it dealer for them to battery reset. No software updates yet and I bought mine in Dec. 2016, so I have had it 7 months and been to the dealers 4 times now. The other issue I am having is having to put air in the tires every month since I have bought it. Especially the back tires, one time it will be the rear drivers side and the next will be the rear passenger side. Dealer said yesterday that they found a nail in rear drivers side, gonna cost me 200.00 to replace but couldn't find anything wrong with the passenger tire and could not give me any explanation on why I would have to put air in it. Other than that for the price and mileage, I got what I paid for since everything is basic in it, no extras, not even an option..

A Lot of Value for Your money.
I changed my 2011 Audi A4 for this car. It is absolutely awesome to drive it. The acceleration is very responsive, very little turbo Lag. Nothing compared to my previous A4, which had a huge turbo lag. This car drives 3 times better than my previous Audi, really. The interior is very nice, very good design. There are a few stock things that really suck on the Hatch Sport 2017. The headlights are very average. The sound could be A LOT better. The Bluetooth system is not great, but these are all things that can be upgraded/modified. The mods on this care are super reasonable, price wise. This car is super easy to modify, you can do it yourself, like I did. I do get a lot on complements on this car. Very happy for my purchase, I could not be happier. The stock 18"s are very cool, I love them. They do make the ride a bit hard, but it is also part of the suspension, which is very sporty.

Better than my Audi A4
This Honda replaced my Audi A4--this will be a controversial statement, but honestly, I couldn't be happier and feel like I 'traded up.' The safety features, the handling, even the interior design in the cockpit--everything feels so much better--at half the price. The car is plenty roomy, has great storage, and the twin turbos are fun to drive.

Fun and practical
This car has been my daily driver during the hot Miami summer. We've been a Honda family with an earlier Civic, Accords, CRV and an Acura RSX over the years. This is my first CVT and that took some getting used to, and it has a few times downshifted very roughly and felt jarring when in the worst stop-and-go traffic. Otherwise the ride is smooth. I mostly drive in ECO mode unless going on the highway or if I need full A/C. The A/C has done the job, though barely at times, and the climate control UI is one of the worst things about this vehicle, requiring a physical button to access a special touchscreen interface. Tinting this hatchback added some extra cost due to the spoiler placement. At this trim level, the electronics package, voice recognition and integration into the dash are excellent. I use Android Auto with Waze and Google Play Music. Android Auto is easy to control with voice commands and the touchscreen UI replaces the mediocre Honda UI. Integration is seamless as Waze adds dash directions under the speedometer and dims your audio to give alerts. The built-in Navi works fine but isn't nearly as practical, it lacks the real-time updates from a social app like Waze and can lead you right into a traffic jam. As for audio, the low end felt weak and I added a 10'' subwoofer in the trunk, an amp and a sub volume control knob using an unoccupied panel to the left of the steering wheel. The rest of the sound system holds up fine and the interior doesn't rattle from bass. I also swapped the headlights and interior bulbs with LEDs, which I highly recommend for night visibility. The back seat fits my two child seats just fine, though you'll have to duck a bit to actually strap kids in, and you'll want a cover for the back of your front seats from those little feet. Overall this is a great car that I plan to keep for a long time.

Definition of Fun
Interior is very nice, but you can see little things here and there that are typical civic and have a cheaper feel. Handles like a slot car, crisp and responsive steering. You can definitely feel the turbo pushing that 1.5 when you romp on it. Gorgeous design, love the rear center mount pipes. Rear visibility a little hindered, but that backup cam mitigates that. I absolutely love it. Enough to get it in black in the desert ;)

sporty, fun to drive, but annoying controls
Fun car to drive. We have gotten many compliments on its looks. Stock tires suck in the snow. I don't like the center console and I wish there was a light in the glove box. The touch screen interface is horrendous. The nav system stinks. It often looses location. I still use it, but also have use my phone because I don't trust the nav. And there are other annoying things about the touch screen that make me realize Honda knows nothing about usability. Sitting in the passenger seat is like sitting in a hole. Update: Have driven the car for almost two years now. 30k miles. Will be putting new tires on soon. No mechanical issues. Fit and finish are still solid. My major complaint about the car is still the reliability of the nav system.
