Mega practical and safe car with surprising quirks
I've had my hatchback for 3.5 years and over 65k miles, and my overall impression is it's a very reliable and unbelievably practical car with great safety features. I've been mostly up and sometimes down on it for various small annoyances, but it literally saved my life and throughout my ownership has been a rock for reliability. Pros: * Hatch space with the rear seats folded is equivalent to a small truck, really * Fuel economy makes you smile..a lot * Stellar safety for a small car. I walked away with nothing but an adrenaline shot and ringing ears from a completely totaled car (sandwiched from behind by a truck). * Layout of controls is intuitive and functional * Reliability--strong start every time, never a worry * Drivability--good turning circle and agility * Very good driver and passenger space * All interior materials feel/look nice, not cheap * Of course, the overall styling and looks of the car are outstanding Cons: * I wish there was a way to perma-disable the collision avoidance system, but you have to remember to do it each time--and sometimes it won't disable even when stopped/parked. Several times the car put me and others in jeopardy because it slammed on brakes when going around a turning vehicle or when drifting up to accelerating traffic. Person behind you will curse your existence, as you curse the flurry of alarms and peel yourself off the seatbelt saying "go, go, GOOOO!!". * CVT is a huge contributor to economy but while the car is plenty powerful, it takes precious seconds for it to realize you have the pedal on the floor. Never try to cross traffic without lots of room. * Cabin build quality is sketchy. Brand new, the headliner was loose & rattled like a maraca while driving. Other unexpected rattling from tweeter covers, plastic pillar covers, and sun visors--drives you mad. You expect better from an EX. * Info-tainment system. Generally very good until you plug in a phone to charge--then it auto-switches to Android or Apple with no selection. Switch source back to radio and dare to touch a button on your phone, then you're back to listening to texts or phone games or whatever, ugh. Sometimes this happens just with bluetooth--Apple especially takes over your car, and Honda is all too accommodating. * Adaptive cruise control. If you want to follow highway traffic at 8-10 car lengths distance, this function is your friend--and that's at the lowest separation setting. Makes cruise unusable for me. So even though the cons are considerable annoyances at times, you start to predict them and work around them over time. But be warned, they'll send you a dark reminder from time to time. A couple can be avoided by not having the sensing package, which is overrated IMO. Understand I'm trying to balance my review, but I'm giving 4 stars since the cons are mostly manageable and more the fault of the designers/builders than the car itself. For just the cargo space and the fuel economy alone, I'd buy it again. But add styling, reliability, and functionality and I'll actually seek one out...without sensing this time ;)

I love this car
When I first saw the car it was love at first sight. I like the look of the exterior as well as the look and functionality of the interior. I opted for the model with Honda Sensing which is worth the extra money. The only complaint I have is the basic sound system, but I was probably spoiled by my Chevy Sonic which had a rather impressive factory sound system.

18 Months, >40K Miles, No Problems, Great Drive
Fantastic car, usual Honda reliability. No issues first 45K miles. 6MT and shifts easily. Hugs the road, brakes well, and with the turbo, you feel like you are driving a go-cart, it's so responsive. Routinely get >38-40 MPG, and I don't drive slowly, mainly highway driving. The interior is nice for the price level. The front carpet is thin, the dashboard is predominately plastic, but well put together and no "creaking". The LX model has a basic infotainment system, but Bluetooth reliability has been good. I listen to podcast and audiobooks and the sound system is very good to my ears. The seats are comfortable cloth. They have held up well so far. The vision out the front is excellent. You'll hear people make comments about the 1.5T gas/oil mixing but no one has shown this actually affects performance or reliability. Nice, spacious central console. AC works well and heat's up quickly in the winter. Well placed cup holders. It's a car that makes daily driving fun. What to do I wish for? No heated seats, passenger front seat has no height adjustment, that's all

Not bad, not great spend some time in the seat
We got our civic hatchback on a lease due to some aggressive pricing at the time. We picked it over the new Subaru Impreza hatchback, Focus and Mazda 3. I am coming into this car from a 2012 skyactiv Mazda 3 touring sedan. We were looking for a hatchback that could hold an infant seat. The civic has plenty of room for our seat without adjusting the front seat which is great. We liked the interior space of the car and of course the hatchback is a huge plus. The seats almost fold flat and ease of loading junk in and out is good. Acceleration and fuel economy are both great. Ride quality is better than I thought but not as good as the Impreza. Wind and road noise is pretty good, maybe slightly above average but not class leading. Now on to the not so good. Things you may not notice on a test drive. The lack of a volume knob bothers me way more than I thought. This thing is also super hard to clean on the outside leaves and little bits get down in all the cracks and creases on the rear end. When I wash my car I have to get that junk out or it would bother me to no end. The interior is not much better the material of the seat and armrest gets dirty fast and all the spots in the overly busy dash hold dirt that can be a pain to get out. The seats are not comfortable for tall people on long drives. I am 6' tall 190lbs with a big build(broad shoulders/chest) the bolstering on the upper part of the seat puts pressure on my shoulders and the lumbar support is just a bit off. After about 30 minutes I am ready to get out and stretch. I can do hours at a time in our Outback or my work truck no problem. Its somehow manages to be quick without being fun. The mazda 3 seems to be the bench mark for fun to drive in this class and to me the civic is just lacking something in the feel even compared to now ancient Ford Focus. Yes its fast, yes it stays planted, yes it can make some fun noises but the cvt while quite good and effective at day to day driving saps all fun out of it. I can't help but feel with a manual this car would be a blast. It also lacks the feed back and just that explainable fun factor the mazda has. Overall its not a bad car perhaps its a little overly complex on the design side but if you are on the smaller side and just need something to get you to and from work this may be your car. For me I am dumping it when the lease is up and looking for something more my size.
