Euro styling & performance

2017 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Hatchback w/Navigation (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

The Civic Hatch is a great option if you want good fuel economy, power, eye-catching styling, and the versatility of an SUV in a compact package. My EX-L w/nav averages 39 mpg and has plenty of power. My only complaint, after owning several SUVs, is getting in and out of it isn't as easy, but if you're used to a car, it isn't an issue. The interior quality is excellent--great finishes, but I would recommend either getting the leather (EX-L) or getting an after-market kit with leather for the door inserts and the center console; the EX I test drove was already showing smudges on the cloth in those areas. I think the cloth seats would hold up fine, though. The leather package is the same as the CR-V Touring package and looks great. Interior ride is quiet and comfortable. The car handles great and is fun to drive.

Great car love the hatchback electronics/technology need some work. No volume knob - I believe is fixed in 2018's stereo volume seems to randomly change - lost all my presets last night and have never disconnected the battery. Climate fan control should also be a knob and not electronic. Apple Car Play cool - need USB charger for rear passengers Overall love the car: my updated review has to lower my initial review due to the electronics. More is not always better: randomly lose all my presets: Apple Car Play not yet perfected and if electronics goes out and needs to be rebooted you lose access to your climate controls since they are all electronic also: love the ride but frustrated with the electronics

Honda, I Give Up!

I owned (leased) the 2017 Civic Hatch EX for over 3 years now. Love the look and even interior styling. People complain about the volume button but I found it to be a mute issue because I just use the volume button on the wheel. The real issue is this the most times I've been to the mechanic for this car vs the last 12 years of owning vehicles which I'll explain below. Honda refuses to acknowledge the problems, reimburse, or even provide discounts on the lease return. The GOOD: -Style -Drive. Really fun and nimble. Terrific pick up. Except it likes to skid a bit too easy. -Hatch versatility. Moved a table, 6 full chairs, and bookcase in one trip -Walk-away lock feature. So convenient. Other companies don't have it. The BAD: - Driver's seat comfort. ZERO lumber support. Long drives (2+ hours) are just impossible and I'm a 5'9" yoga teacher with no back issues. Yet. -Tires pop easy. Went through 4 tires in about 1.5 years in NYC. Just not a city car. Terrible suspension with low tire walls. -MAJOR AC ISSUE: Air Conditioning started blowing warm air 2.5 years in (40k miles). I went through many forums. There are 100's like me. It's a huge issue that Honda refuses to acknowledge and make a recall. It's past warranty so they won't fix it free for me. Cost ~$1200. - TMPS Monitoring system: Light went on 2.5 years on a routine tire rotation at reputable shop. Back to the forums... Many have the same issue. The system is flawed. No real issue, just annoying light. And if a tire does blow, bad news for me. -Audio system rattle: The casing is crap. Rattles when any bit of bass plays at half volume. The shop couldn't do a thing - after 3 "replacements". I hacked it myself by adding some cushion insulation by the edges. TLDR: This is my 3rd Honda. STAY AWAY. Expect issues. Sadly, this isn't the only Honda model with consistent issues. They are just not reliable anymore.

Nice car for the money

Consider upgrading to leather seats for the adjustability. In our experience Honda leather seats look like [non-permissible content removed] after about 6 years. I like cloth seats so I opted for the ex, but after a month in the car I wish I had more adjustments on the drivers seats. Other than the seat issue I like the combination of nice features and the lower cost of the ex model. Looked closely at Mazda 3 and Subaru empreza. Ruled out impreza, similar equipped Subaru cost more, did not need or want all wheel drive. Mazda was close second and nice car for the money but the closest dealer was just a Hassle to get to and the Honda had more zip from the turbo charged motor.

EX-L w/ Navi

Why anyone would spring for the sport or sport touring version of this hatch for an extra 6 horses is beyond me as you're signing up for having to purchase premium fuel for the life of your ownership, as well as getting inferior fuel economy. You can't even feel the modest increase. Yeah, the exhaust setup looks nice but imo it's too aggressive looking - save that for the type R or Si. Anyway - overall very happy with purchase - fuel economy in mixed driving hitting a little under what it's rated for - I'm hoping that changes. Not a huge fan of the honeycomb faux vents on the rear bumper but I bought black so they blend in better than other colors. I love the overall design of this hatch, and although typically prefer a good M/T over an automatic, I'm pretty impressed by the CVT on this car.
