Touring with Honda Civic 2016

The rear view camera has 3 permitted views and is confusing at first. It is best for negotiating upwards and downward slopes, but so so for left or right movements. The bottom rear camera view just behind the car is useful for parking as is the passenger side view camera. A little longer than I wanted in a compact sedan and therefore harder to park in tight spaces. However no other compact sedan has nearly as much trunk space. The look of the car is striking in its class especially the metallic blue color. Horn volume is puny. The car drives beautifully and steers beautifully with little or no noise. Once I was at 90 mph and had no idea I was moving that fast. Turning radius is great also for size. The rolling resistance is very low and the car goes a long distance before stopping with the foot off the pedal. I mean it can coast! Continuously variable transmission did not seem to affect the driving negatively. It picks up acceleration very quickly and is not an issue entering a highway ramp. Handles small bumps fine, but hit a big bump and the tires tell you. Great fuel efficiency especially in eco mode which I use for city driving. 30 mpg city, 40 mpg highway. Average is 38 mpg. Winter mpg falls 30% from summer mpg in Michigan. Brakes are great. Even has a brake hold if you are stuck in traffic for a while. Would have liked a volume button for navigation. It is buried deep in the screen and can't be changed easily on the run. Price a bit on the high side but it does have a lot of technology in this price range. Love the lane guidance system ( slight steering wheel judder warning) and the brake warning system which can be adjusted to distance from the car in front. Not always optimal but useful if one is sleepy or tired. Phone pairs easily and automatically using bluetooth. Has Airplay. Remote start is great for both hot and cold days. A/C and heater comes on as appropriate to settings left in the car from previous trip with remote start. Side view camera on the right is great. Now why not a side view camera on the left? Audio was OK. There was no volume button on the panel , but there was one on the steering wheel. AC works just fine and adjustments are easily done on the run. Both front seats are low compared to the back seat. I am 5' 11". The driver's seats has little lumbar support. A clear design flaw. The back seats on the other hand are spacious and much more comfortable. Passenger seat way too low and not adjustable and have had complaints about this. Big problem here and needs to be adjustable in the next version The back windshield slopes such as to give a limited field of view in the rear view mirror. I saw this as a glaring safety shortfall that could have been easily fixed by design adjustments. However I do love all the warnings you get in the speedometer screen if you have left a door open, etc. Not sure I would trade it for any other car though. It was between the Elantra Ultimate package which has similar technology features and the Honda Civic and the Honda won but not by much though. The Mazda 3 was a great driving experience , did not have the same level of technology in its touring version as did the other two cars mentioned above, but the stand alone navigation screen on top of the dash would be tempting to thieves as it can easily be ripped out and that is why that was out too. Preferred the navigation style in the Mazda and the Elantra to that in the Honda. Would have liked automatic folding in of side-view mirrors to make it easier to get it into my garage and left side blind spot view on screen as right side is great. Did not look at American brand cars due to reliability issues. Was told Subaru was good but was treated badly by several Subaru area dealers. Not sure they care for minority folks it seems as the looked eager to serve white buyers. Would not let us even take test drive! Repairs are costly. Swivel capability on the passenger side cost $700 to fix even though the rest of the assembly was fine. They get you on repairs in spades but all foreign brand cars are doing it. Any of these three cars in their loaded versions are all high quality and will not disappoint. These are all good cars for senior citizens in their seventies, who prefer a lot of safety and technology in the car as aids to increasingly slowing reflexes, and vision impairment with age. Younger drivers may save some money with the EX version which has some of the technology features available in the touring version. Get the 1.5 L turbo engine though. Best car purchase I ever made. Battery died after 3.5 years and 30,000 miles. Maintenance issue with a/c, fixed under warranty.

2016 Honda Civic LX as compared to 2004 TSX

JD & Company, 07/18/2016
2016 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
44 of 44 people found this review helpful

We leased this vehicle about 3-months ago after selling our 2004 TSX. In contrast to the TSX, the Civic uses regular gasoline, and has basic-sized steel belted tires that are H-rated. Stepping out of the Acura line to Honda was our best option to cut costs without giving up too many of the items that we enjoyed on our TSX. NOT having to buy premium gasoline, and change tires (V-rated sized) every 24-months is a godsend. The Civic is nimble enough around town, but lacks passing power at highway speeds. Our seats are cloth, and I do miss the leather seating with motorized seat adjustments. Fuel ecomomy is excellent at around 26 miles in stop and go driving to just under 40 on the highway. The Civic is a practical car, and has adequate trunk space. It is really designed for four passengers, not five as claimed in the drivers manuel. The A/C is cool. The car sits a little lower to the pavement than our Acura, but handles really well. Back-up camera, media jacks and cup holders. She starts up quick, and idles quiet as a mouse. In my business, I had previously rented Toyota Corollas, in fact I typically sought them out with National and Avis when they were available. I prefer the Civic handling over the Corolla. Both are about the same on fuel efficiency. The Honda Civic is a decent value and it is possible to purchase a really "dressed-up" Civic but that defeated the reason that we wanted it in the first place. BTW, the more add-on features and packages...the exponentially higher cost. It is possible to flirt with a $30,000 price tag if you're not careful. This is not a misprint....$30K. At that price, you should just look into a Honda Accord. Our Civic gets the job done adequately enough as equiped. I recommend the Civic to those seeking a more practical solution to their monthly and annual driving expenses.

Civic EX-T 2016 Amazing Car!!!!

GRRR, 12/01/2015
2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
70 of 72 people found this review helpful

I lease a 2016 Civic EX-T (1.5L turbo) with the CVT transmission. 12,000 miles/year, 65% residual, full cover bumper to bumper and 3 year/36,000 miles warranty. The car is amazing. Before leasing it I went to other dealers to see other cars that were more sprensive than the civic. Let me tell you: you can get lot more features for less money with the civic. Interior is clean, it looks great and modern, I love it. I'm still not used to not having a volume knob on the radio, but o well my smart phone doesn't have it either! For the driver it's really easy to adjust the radio with the options on the steering wheel. The EX-T comes with dual climate control, and heated seats. DON'T SPEND MONEY ON NAVIGATION! if you have an smart phone you can connect it to the USB and use Car Apple Play or Android, and from your phone you can see the navigation on the car screen. The car comes with LED headlamps (daytime LED as well), LED taillights and fog lights. Interior is really spacious. Your children will have a ton of leg room in the backseat. Everything is keyless access. Just put your hand on the door handles and the car will unlock the door(s) for you (like the Mercedes!!). If you forget to lock your car, it will lock them by itself when the key is out and far from the car or you can just push the lock button on the door handle to lock it. The car comes with remote start (you can turn on your car without being inside of it), sunroof, satellite radio, back-up camera (with 3 different positions), side camera (to see blind spots when changing lanes), cruise control, auto-lights and auto-wipers. The e-brake is just a button, easy to use and it save a lot of space which Honda used to make the center console with more space. The acceleration is impressive!. You will feel the kick of the turbo after 2,000 rpm. I believe it can take you from 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds (I think it's faster than the previous 2015 civic SI). Gas mileage? My civic average 32 mpg. I drive it on both city and highway. Cons --> The car is super lightweight (about 2,800 lbs.), that helps the acceleration, braking and gas mileage, but when I'm driving on the freeway over 75mph I sometimes feel the car shaking because of the wind.

2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

...the 2016 Civic with the Turbo would be it! I've driven/owned higher-end Toyota and Nissan products for many years but never actually owned a Honda. This time I was looking for a specific set of attributes requiring over 40mpg highway using regular unleaded in a fun-to-drive package. The mundane task of commuting is almost pleasant when I get 40-50mpg on mixed roads. Overtaking cars is a breeze (and fun) with snappy 45-60mph acceleration. Emergency braking is strong and predictable, and the brake hold feature is kind of like cruise control for the brake pedal. My joy with the Civic really came out on our first road trip with the kids to the Blue Ridge Mountains. I loaded the trunk with enough baby and preschooler gear to last a week. This along with a medium cooler and adult luggage crammed every cubic foot of boot. Fully laden the car handled the most challenging, restricted, county mountain roads better than our previous Infiniti G35. Once it was just the 4 of us, the car could cut a right-hand downhill twist at 30mph with *no* body lean or tire squeal. Accelerating uphill out of hairpins was just a notch below the response of the early-2000s era BMW 3-series. The climate control is as refined as the premium brands. While the audio system definitely is not, it is still an excellent system by its segment standards. Honda has worked out most of the HU kinks we had when new via system updates that occur overnight. CarPlay is great but beware that your lightning cable quality must be top-notch, which is universal to all vehicles in my experience. The SiriusXM works well, and is the version which allows the maximum channels from the service (GM, for example, uses a lower-tier satellite receiver which limits access to higher-numbered channels). The audio controls are fine once you get used to the system - pretty much the same learning curve of any other new car. The passenger side LaneWatch camera is an awesome tool. Now that I'm used to it I prefer it over the Blind Spot Light system (although I wish a BLS was on the driver's side - the wide angle mirror is just short of adequate). I use LaneWatch while parallel parking and liked having it on the narrow sheer drop roads in the mountains to see how close to the road's edge I could safely drive. The seats are very supportive of my 5'11" 185lb frame and on-par with premium branded small sport sedans. I was surprised that even without power adjustments I could find an excellent seating position so easily. I like having the heated seats available even with cloth seats. The cloth is very durable and easy to clean, although not terribly pleasing to the touch. The only plastic gripe I have is with the instrument cluster cowl - it is very chintzy compared to the rest of the superb dashboard material. I wish there was more customization available for the instrument screen (e.g., an analog speedometer option or alternate tachometer layout instead of just tach on/off), but for a $20k car one cannot be too picky I guess. I also wish some of the blank button squares could be functional and programmable buttons instead of the cheap looking dead-ends. In the end I chose the Civic over the Volvo for the exceptional value. You get a vehicle that is very much on-par with the S60 (in some ways better - such as aggressive handling, and in some ways not - such as Audio and interior materials) for less than 2/3 the cost. 2018 41,000 mile Update: I am as impressed with this Civic now as I was when I first purchased it. I have driven it from the winding WV, VA and NC mountain roads to the long flats of the NC Outer Banks. Even the CVT (which had a repair under a TSB warranty) with multiple modes can bring about a smile bigger than any automatic I've previously driven - of course it is nothing like rowing your own gears though. My lifetime gas mileage has been around 41mpg with almost on a mixture of rural roads, suburban and urban interstates. The engine, interior, transmission, tires and exterior are all holding up even better than I expected. This is an excellent vehicle I'd recommend to anyone. 2020 90,000 mile update: Still a daily commuter that has a soul unlike any other commuter class car I've ever driven. All interior and exterior components work as they did new. With only periodic servicing (oil, CVT fluid, Brake fluid, wiper blades, 1 battery and 1 set of tires) the Civic has been ultra reliable and economical to operate. I do nearly all my own maintenance, and the Civic is about average for ease of DIY maintenance. Due to limited jack points and low ground clearance, elevating the car is tricky with most DIY equipment yet is required for nearly all services. The cloth interior has no stains despite the young boys who ride the car nearly daily. The seats remain as supportive and comfortable as new. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase!

The new redesign on the 2016 Civic is absolutely stunning! Hard to believe what options you get for the money, have the EX model and it pretty much has everything you would and then some. Looks way more expensive than it is, drives smooth and handles like a sports car, great acceleration with the 2.0L engine, super comfortable, tons of options. Minor issues with touch panel controls, poorly placed audio on/off button, you will turn the entire audio system off if you try to adjust the vents.....every time. Also no volume knob, it's all touch control and takes some getting used to. Since owning vehicle 3 years have had two major repairs, power steering rack went bad, AC compressor went bad (both common failures?), would have been over $3,000 if not for warranty, they are using cheap parts, beware.

2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

Update: 7/18/17: [I'm still impressed with this car! MPG was worse in winter. In summer mixed driving I get about 38 to 39 mpg. Apple CarPlay disconnects occasionally... I'm not sure if this is due to the phone or the CarPlay software. Otherwise, everything works as it should and the car is a pleasure to drive.] I was interested in this car because of its fuel economy and reliability. The fuel economy is amazing! I'm actually getting about 40 in mixed driving (much highway). I also looked at the Mazda 3, but the test drive showed a world of difference. The Mazda is fun to drive, and the controls are well laid-out, but the ride is noisy. The Civic EX-T has sporty handling, but also a solid, quiet ride. Acceleration is alarmingly good! I have found myself going faster than intended due to the smooth, powerful acceleration delivered by the CVT and the smooth ride. The standard radio at this trim level is very nice. So many cars have bass that sounds like it is in the bottom of a cardboard box. The bass in the Civic EX-T is strong without being muddy. The seats are very comfortable and the interior is nice looking and seems bigger than it is. There are lots of bells and whistles, moonroof, keyless start, audio and other display controls on the steering wheel, etc. People have complained about the audio controls on the touch screen, but the driver really never needs to use them with everything on the steering wheel. The biggest surprise to me is that this is a great looking car!

I really love the new design, and roomier interior. This was supposed to be for my wife who is small and I thought might be too small for me to drive, not the case.Very comfortable to drive and lots of room.No complaints, although I dont like the brake button near the center of console, too easy to hit by mistake and for me the jury still out on the capless gas tank. Im just used to having a gas cap my whole life so will have to get used to it.Otherwise this is my 4th Honda previously had a 2003 Civic,2006 Accord, still have my 2014 Crosstour (which I love) so totally sold on Honda!

2016 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Sedan w/Honda Sensing (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

Let me start by saying that I was shopping for a Honda 2015 or 2016 Accord. The new apple car play, remote start and safety features made me wanting the 2016 Accord. I had a 2010 BMW 335i that's 3.0L and twin turbo. I’m getting married and want something more economical over the long term, reliable, and something maybe a bit more comfortable. I didn't even consider the 2015 civic as an option as the review were pretty far apart from the accord. If you are interested, you can do a quick search on the 2012, which is gen 9 civic, which the reviews were so poor, Honda had to do an emergency design update for the 2013 model year. Obviously, I haven’t have the car for long, but here are some feedback may be useful to you if you have your mind somewhat set up Accord or the new civic. First, make sure you test drive both the non-turbo (LX, EX) and the turbo engine (EX-T and above). What’s important to me are reliability, safety, and ride comfort. Also, the car needs to have enough merging power, getting on-ramp or out of trouble. The base engine certainly can do that. The turbo engine has quite a bit more power, and doesn’t need to rev as hard to get power, which does seem a bit quieter. Don’t look at just the published numbers, the turbo engine has much broader torque band. So, why I said to make sure take a test drive in both other than the obvious power difference? The cars ride differently. The turbo equipped cars ride better since the rear suspension are fitted with the new fluid-filled bushings all around. The LX and EX only have those on the front. The ride quality are pretty far apart. I found that the turbo equipped civic rides better than the 2016 Accord EX that I drove. In the 2016 Accord, only the Touring trim is fitted with the fluid-filled bushing all around. Accord maybe still can absorb bigger bumps or potholes better, but as far as road isolation, the turbo equipped civics are better than Accord EX. Obviously, Accord is much roomier, especially the back seats and very easy to get in and out. I prefer Civic’s lower driving position better. Accord has great visibility, lots of glass all around. After some consideration, I had my mind set on the Accord, due to leg room, head room and seat comfort. I was comparing the Civic EX-T vs the 2016 Accord EX in the showroom. I had driven an LX and a Touring back to back. With 5 minutes of test drive in each, it was difficult to absorb everything in. I remember liking the Touring quite a bit more. So, right before I made the purchase, I took one final ride between the two. I was in a Civic Touring, and I found out the contour of the leather seats fitted me much better. I’m a big guy 6 ft and 265lb. The contour of the back support just wasn’t comfortable for me of the fabric seats. I’ve also found that the power seats had more adjustments in both height and front to back. When you adjust the height of the manual seat higher, the seat also moves forward. To get more leg room, I had to seat lower. Also, not sure of the reason, the manual drive seat also gave me less head room. At the end, I fit quite comfortably in the EX-L, which comes with power and leather driver seat. I also opted for Honda Sensing. Just imaging my loves ones maybe driving this car one day, $1000 more safety suddenly becomes cheap to me. The warning systems works great without being annoying. Collision Mitigation works great (someone cut in front of me and slammed on the brake). Lane keeping assist is awesome, and as soon as you give a slight input to the steering, it over rides the system. The sensing package is part of the reason keeping me from shopping other cars. After taking 300 mile drive, the whole package definitely worth the extra. The engine is still being broken in, but I’m got 39mpg on the trip and it’s still going up on highway. Headlight brightness are decent, not as good as adaptive HID, but not bad. Apple Carplay works when using phone as navigations. Trunk is very large comparing with this class of cars. Center console flexibility is brilliant. Love the remote start, and smart key feature. Unless I want to use remote start, I never have to take the key out of my pocket. Touch inside of the drive side handle, the door unlocks. Push button start and stop. When I leave the car, just touch the black button on the door handle and the car locks. The LCD gauge is awesome too. I believe LX doesn’t get that though. Something that I still have to get used to is the car will coast! Not quite a manual disengage from clutch, but close. I have to learn to let off the throttle very early, so I can get better gas mileage and not as hard on the brake. Few things that I don’t like: shining surface on the back of the remote and near gear shifter seem scratch easily. Love the LCD display, but still would prefer volume nob, and bottoms for climate controls. Don’t like the limitation of selecting where air are coming out. Don’t have t

I drive a lot for work. And this car is almost perfect for the job. 1. The car literally can almost drive itself. 2. Seriously...The adaptive cruise control is amazing in stop and go traffic. It even comes to a complete stop. 3. The lane watch technology follows the striped lines on the road. Steering is required. 4. I set a beep to warn to brake for being to close to the car in front of me. 5. And the lane departure helps as well. The car's technology is decent. The apple play is convenient but they added to many other options to connect and it's just in the way.

I'm really irritated by the poor window/door seal on the driver's side. At 50+ mph you can hear the wind whistling, like the window is cracked a tiny bit. The dealer and Honda America say it's just a characteristic of the vehicle, but my 2015 Civic doesn't do this, nor my 2007 Civic, nor my 2005 Civic, nor the 2002 Civic we had previously. Test drive at 50+ with the radio off and listen before you buy this car. I wish I had. There is no fix at this time. By the way, I'm guessing at MPG below. I haven't actually checked that.

2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4 months of ownership

James, 10/02/2016
2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
27 of 30 people found this review helpful

This is my honest review of my new 2016 Honda Civic EX-T after owning it for almost 4 months. Important Note: This is the first car I've owned but I've rented different cars before. I want to begin by saying that this car is fantastic. The moment I test drove it, I fell in love with how amazingly it drove. The car drives perfectly, takes bumps very well, handles amazingly, and overall is a great car for getting from point A to B while providing some sportiness. If I were to pick an issue with the performance, it is the turbo lag. It doesn't happen often and doesn't affect the safety of the car but there are moments where it takes a short while for the car to start going. Other than the occasional rare lag, it runs extremely well. The comfort of the car is great for its class. The only issue is that this car is relatively low so it can be hard to get in and out of the ground. I've had many instances of having my shoes come into contact with the door and causing stains. The dual zone is a blessing especially in hot days. The seats are not the best but they are pretty good. They can get stained. The front interior of the car is just amazing. The layout of the dash and touchscreen are well thought out and make the car seem more luxurious than it actually is. The back interior is a different story. The back seats aren't as well thought out and I recommend an Accord if backseats are important. The design of the seat belt for the middle seat is awkward. The seat belt straightener is placed too close to where the passenger would rest their head. I've had a passenger hit their head trying to rest. The doors of the back seat in the EX-T lack the same cloth stitching seen in the front seat. Besides these flaws, the backseat has its merits, it is roomy for a compact sedan. The technology in the EX-T is terrific, dual zone, heated seats, a sunroof, and android auto/carplay make this car very luxurious. What really amazes me is the fuel economy of this car. I've been getting around 36 mpg average doing mostly highway driving. I drive around 80 miles a day for 4 days and I only need to refuel once per week. Other issues I've had with the car include: glitches with the climate control where it wouldn't turn off or kept blowing at my feet, rare backup camera issues, and an occasional door rattling noise. Overall, I highly recommend this car, the driving experience is great, the interior/exterior are well done, the fuel economy is top of the class good. Only few quality issues and glitches seem to put a small dent in an otherwise great compact sedan.

Drove the new Honda Accord and Civic. The Accord is really nice but the Civic was just more comfortable for me. The Touring model has every option anyone would want except for blind spot monitoring on drivers side. That would have been nice. Driving the car in mixed driving, I got 38mpg on the first tank. That was calculated. The car was saying 40. Not bad considering the my 2015 Prius was 5 mpg off. The power of this car is nice. The drive is very comfortable. I can see this car getting 42-45 on the highway. Not bad at all since my Prius only got 46. The fit and finish of this car rival the luxury cars. Honda hit a home run on this one.

Great Car if you don't turn on the Stereo

If you are going to buy this car and plan on listening to music look somewhere else. Honda plays stupid and says there is not any problem and the dealerships are just guessing on what it takes to fix the problem. The subwoofer rattles and it is horrible even which the bass turned all the way down. I read in several forums including consumer reports that Honda will say they have never heard of this issue and when I called that is exactly what happened. Since then they have said they are working on the problem but they do not know when it will be fixed. The rest of the car well I love it and once they fix the stereo it will be a great car. The lane assist is a little weird and is nothing like what Tesla has but the over all fit and finish is first class. I hope helps someone

Honda please address the audio software issues!!!

2016 Honda Civic Touring 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

I'm so glad I found the civicx.com forum and the many owners with my same 2016 Honda Touring issues (http://www.civicx.com/threads/loud-popping-noise-upon-startup-touring.1279/). After reading, if you have the same issue, please post there and also contact Honda technical support to hopefully get them to address this widespread and very "unpublicized" issue. I just purchased my Touring 6 days ago - March 2016, and have been to the dealership 2x, and have to figure out how to take it back AGAIN tomorrow. According to other owners on civicx.com, I can look forward to dozens of more visits that do not result in any type of long term "fix". First the charging port unit was broken (used to be called a cigarette lighter). Apparently it was installed wrong. They also had to address my Bluetooth issue- where when playing music the audio drops, sounds choppy and skips over and over and over in the song, and also the issue where there is absolutely no sound when starting the car from time to time. Mind you, I experienced all of these issues within the first 4 hours of having the car!! The day after my purchase, I dropped off my new Touring to the service department. Three days later service tells me they couldn't replicate the audio issues, but that they called Honda Technical Support who advised there is no issue. So in the end they refreshed the system and let me know it should be fine now. Nope. Not 10 minutes after driving off the lot it happened again. I took it back and they sat with me and confirmed the issue WAS there and indeed was VERY annoying. They said that the Honda techline advised that now since the service department tech has replicated the issue, they can confirm its a KNOWN issue that requires a software update that they haven't produced yet. I was told that I will need to call consistently to see if an update has been created, and in the meantime to avoid Bluetooth and use CarPlay for audio and sent on my way. The next day I experienced the no audio issue again at start up. One day after that I get that full volume power surge popping sound that blasted my ears and I'm sure my speakers are damaged because of it!!! It didn't matter what source of audio it was set to (Bluetooth, AM, FM, XM, CarPlay), or whether or not I turned the audio off, and didn't stop even after pulling over and restarting/shutting down/restarting the car. After one last huge pop it finally stopped but left me with absolutely NO audio for my 2 hour drive - I had to use my earbuds and cellphone for music! I now have to make yet ANOTHER drive to Honda to get service to look at it again and at least document my issues in case future action is necessary. I'm glad I'm not the only one going through this with their brand new Civic Touring, but to know so many have the same issues with the Touring is really unnerving. No idea why is there no coverage on this publicly so that it lights a fire under Honda to get more resources allocated towards fixing these major issues!!! We paid extra for the better speakers, audio and technology, but are unable to use them from day 1 with no fix in sight. To now have to consider bringing a little speaker with me to hook to my iPhone in order to get music on my sometimes 1-2 hour commutes is unbelievable and should be taken seriously by Honda. My ultimate hope is that the speakers are covered under warranty because I'm sure that's going to come in handy soon with the sporadic high volume popping. I still think the car itself is absolutely beautiful, but I am disgusted with Honda at this point because the issue has been happening to people on the civicx.com forum since December 2015!! My hope is the more this issue is publicized, the harder Honda will work to fix it, or do a recall for the affected cars (not sure if all are affected).

Best car I have ever owned

The 2016 Civic base model seems more like a luxury car than a Civic. Even 2.0 liter base engine has a lot of punch and the CVT transmission is incredible. The steering is tight and it holds the road like a BMW. Yeah I just said that. In fact I park mine next to my neighbors Mercedes Benz, and mine definitely is the winner in looks and performance, and costs more than half as much. At $20000 financed and $2000 down, this car is the best value that's ever been on the market. I stand by that 100%. I drove Toyota, Mazda and Kia before I made my decision and the closest models where the Mazda 3 and the Optima, but for overall road hugging fun, looks, performance, reliability, lasting value, and dealer support nothing beats the new Civic. Let me talk on dealer support for a moment. I got life long oil changes, 7 year 100k mile electronics warranty, and all the road side and mechanical and power train warranties that come along with it. Plus most Honda dealers don't mess around. They do their job and give you the support you need in a timely manner. That includes their service station. And though I got the 4 door it looks sportier than my dads 2008 coup. A lot sportier. Drining it is fun as heck, to the point you'll grind your teeth when your going below 55mph, so get a mouth guard. I got fabric seats as well and usually I hate them, but these are high enough quality I really didn't mind and actually like them. It's also very comfortable to drive. On long trip I usually take my Trail Blazer. Which has a lot of comfort but my shoulders and back start getting stiff after 6+ hours of driving. In the 2016 Civic the only discomfort I get from long drives down the Oregon and California coast, and that's highway 101, is when I have stop driving. Driving in the back roads of the Willamette Valley is even better. The electronics are cool too, the blue tooth actually works like it's supposed to, so the hands off calling is actually nice and easy to use. I have a Samsung Note 2 and it connects flawlessly via usb for mp3s. Sound system is good, not great, but that's not really what I'm into. Oh and the Silver Lunar paint job is the best I've ever had on a relatively cheap car. It's so good, I can't believe it's not from the Accura decision. I'm honestly trying to think of a negative. Yeah you could spend more and get more horse power, but 7 seconds to 60 isn't bad with the base engine, and I've timed it several times. Its like 7.25s, but for 19500 starting price how is that not awesome? The same for all the electronics, even the base model has a backup camera, and for a few dollars more, you can get the accident and lane assist, which is cool, but I didn't feel it was necessary. The 2016 Civic really does deserve car of the year.

Car just looks great, rides smooth and sporty. Its bigger than any past Civic so it has a decent amount of space but can still handle like a compact. Great acceleration and braking. The amount of features in the Touring model is over the top. I think Honda has just out-classed all the larger compact vehicles. Very happy so far. Update 7/8/2020 - still runs great at 79K miles. Finally replaced the factory Firestone tires. Update 1/9/2021 - still going strong at 90K Miles Update 7/12/2024 - at 152K miles no issues Update 1/15/2025 - still working great at 158K miles

Great car for your money

Bart, 12/28/2015
2016 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)
31 of 36 people found this review helpful

I have had the new Civic EX-L for about a couple of weeks now. From a guy who has owned luxury cars in the past, I was really surprised at how much I like this car. Everyone I have shown it to cannot believe that the car is a Civic and I have received a lot of complements about the car. Exterior and Styling This Civic is wider and looks sportier than all of the Civics in the past. You can't really even call the this a compact car anymore. The spacious cabin gives ample space for 4 grown adults. Interior The EX-L comes with the leather wrapped steering wheel and seats and while you can't compare the leather seats to a Lexus, the Civic leather seating is still quite comfortable. The infotainment center is unlike any other car I have been in. It's basically an Ipad or Android tablet. Pretty much everything is controlled through touch screen gestures except for a few things such as temperature control. Some people of complained about the lack of physical knobs and buttons for controlling audio and other settings. My experience is that if you are familiar with an IPad, you shouldn't have any problems with this car. Also, most of the time, as the driver, when I need to change audio volume for changing radio stations I would use the steering wheel audio controls which work great. The center cup holder console is massive and can hold anything from large bottles of liquids or for storage of coins and miscellaneous items. Tech Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are awesome. The navigation system of your phone will beat any built in navigation system. Integration with music apps such as Spotify was seamless. The Civic has a built-in camera on the right side mirror which is activated when you turn on the right turn signal allowing the driver to see a view of the right hand side in the infotainment center. Some people may find this distracting but I find it immensely helpful when changing lanes. Performance This 1.5 turbo is peppy. I believe 0-60 on this car is about 6.8 to 7.0 seconds which I believe is the fastest for any car in its class. I can't wait to see what happens when the Si or Type R version will be when it comes out. The turbo kicks in fairly quickly if you want it to. There's even a gauge for it that is shown in the instrument console. The handling is responsive and the brakes are solid. The MPG on the sticker says 30 City, 40 Highway. There's no way you will get that unless you drive like a grandmother with the ECO mode always enabled. It's more likely you get around 30 MPG for highway. What I didn't like CVT Engine: Coming from a V6 luxury car, this CVT engine sounds very rough. While it's not a problem when the car is moving, it does get quite loud with this droning sound when the car gets going from stop. It took a while for me to get used to the sound of the engine and it's no longer an issue for me now but I can see some people might cross this car off their list just because of this CVT engine. I'm thinking the Si and Type R versions will not get a CVT and come with a highly coveted manual transmission option. Rear Camera: The resolution for rear view camera is not good. The images can be fuzzy especially at night or when it's raining. It's also placed in a position where it's very noticeable and not protected from the elements. That's not good design. Side Camera: The side camera on the right has better resolution than the rear camera but it's also pretty big. You'll notice it right away. With today's technology you would have thought they would have been able to make the cameras smaller Headlight: I didn't go for the Touring version because I wasn't interested in the features it offered such as the improved audio or heated seats in the back. But one thing I do regret not getting are the better head lights. The yellow standard headlights of the Civic just make it look cheap. For EX-L they really should have given it Xenon. Car Play Freezes: From time to time, Car Play won't work correctly. It's most likely a problem with the phone. I would have to reset my phone in order for Car Play to connect correctly. Otherwise, I would get no audio or buzzing noises coming from the speakers Honda Voice Recognition: Honda's built in voice recognition software is horrendous. The voice recognition is used to make phone calls and I have yet to get that to work correctly once. I always just use Siri option to make the calls. Siri seems to do a much better job of picking up my words. Overall, for what I paid for the car (which was below invoice), I feel that I got a lot of car for my money. Time will tell how reliable this new Civic platform will be.

We've owned/driven Honda vehicles for the last 35 years. The 2016 Civic is amazing. Not that I have ever driving a sports car, but this Civic has fantastic acceleration and handling. It feels like I am driving a sports car. It has all the electronic bells and whistles (most of which I'm still figuring out how to use). It has a very smooth ride and for my first two tanks of gas, I got about 37 miles to the gallon.

I had this car for a little over 3 years. It was a great overall car. Good performance, handling, and comfort. I had this car until it reached 46,000 miles. I stumbled across two issues while owning this car. At around 30,000 miles the steering wheel would start to get stuck while slightly turning at high speeds. The other issue is that the AC compressor broke at 45,000 miles and cost 1,700 to fix it! I was out of warranty by this time. Overall pretty good car.

Yep, there's no volume knob. Moving on. I drive this car about 25 miles a day for my commute. I've put a little over 7000 miles on it in the 10 months I've owned it and am averaging 36.9 mpg. Things I like: acceleration once the turbo kicks in, sport mode, info-tainment system, Android Auto, interior storage, gas mileage, quiet cabin, feeling of quality of interior, brake hold is awesome! Things I'm not crazy about: price is a little steep, but not crazy, no adjustable lumbar support (come'on Honda!), CVT is really hesitant from a dead stop. Overall, nothing is perfect, I love this car. To me, the lack of a volume knob is made up for with the touch sensitive steering wheel volume control.

A Great All-Around Commuter Car

6 of 6 people found this review helpful

I had a 2016 Subaru WRX for the past year. Absolutely loved the car, but I was moving to the city and was going to park on the street and I didn't want to bring a sporty car that someone might scratch up/mess with. It hurt, but I knew I had to get something else that was a little more discrete. I shopped around for cars in the same compact size class the WRX (based off the Impreza) and the Civic just hit all the checkmarks. The styling is pretty polarizing and while I like it, I'm still getting used to it. I do like that Honda took a bold decision and made it a unique design in a segment with a lot of "bland" cars. Technology wise the car has it all, you get a large touchscreen display with apps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and then some. The EX-EX-L comes with a 8 speaker 188-watt sound system that sounds decent (coming from a stock stereo WRX this is WAY better). I didn't try the Touring's 10-speaker system with a subwoofer but heard it's pretty good. I also got Honda Sensing which comes with some great safety features, even though I think LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) is sometimes a bit intrusive but you can turn it off. The power out of the little 1.5L I4 is very solid and with the turbo it does pick up speed pretty well for the segment. Fuel economy is excellent and if you are just cruising on the highway you can definitely get 40+ mpg, on average I get around 36 mpg in mixed highway and backroads driving. Another thing I enjoy is having the keyless access, start and remote start which comes in really handy cooling down the car and once it's winter to heat up the car. As a whole, even though I miss my WRX I think the Civic is a great alternative. It's still pretty fun to drive, great fuel economy, plenty of technology to keep us millennials entertained as well as having that Honda quality and reliability. Definitely recommend one!

This vehicle has by FAR the best performing vehicle I have ever owned. No maintenance issues period. My Firestones lasted 55k miles. The gas mileage has been outstanding. No rattles or leaks. The exterior still looks fantastic. I have over 80k miles and have no intention of selling it. I have also had all regular maintenance done at Honda dealerships. Couldn't be happier. 6/2/2022 my civic now has just over 132k miles. Still getting over 40mgs highway...did 100k maintenance. All fluids replaced. New plugs and valve adjust. Cars still runs like it's a new vehicle. I have had ZERO issues with this rig. The paint/body still look like new when washed and waxed. Next update, if it's possible, I will attach a picture or two. Thanks honda!

No known issue. Honda Corp won't pay to get this common problem fixed. Cheap crappy car. I used to love it and I've only had it 1year. I went back to a Honda to have a reliable car but it has been the opposite. I'm disappointed in the new HONDA generation of business. Single mom back to the drawing board.

Great Upgrade from 2015 Civic

I traded in my 2015 Civic coupe for the 2016 sedan. I had tested the Civic EX-L, 2016 Accord Sport, 2016 Toyota Prius, and the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid. I must say I made a great choice going with the Civic. The Accord's driving dynamic didn't feel right. The Prius had some funky styling and very comfy seats but was just too slow to get to highway speeds. The RAV4 Hybrid was a great vehicle, I may have choose it over the Civic if the dealership hadn't treated me poorly. The Civic has everything that I was needing in my next car. A sleek look, 4 doors to allow adults to fit into the back seats, a spacious trunk, a lot of tech, heated seats, and great fuel economy with a turbo! The car handles very well around corners. I get a smile on my face every time I drive this car. My only complaint is like other owners have said, the bluetooth connection is terrible. It cuts out frequently but that is overcome by plugging my iPhone in by USB, so not a major problem. Otherwise, this car is a big win for Honda!

Corolla s plus to Civiic ex

In todays era of energy efficient lighting Honda has not installed HID or LED headlights on this model but they did think enough to install LED running lights on the front that only makes you visible to others and does not help with actual lighting to see by. I traded a 2015 Corolla for the Civic EX which had GREAT lighting with LED headlights so I took a GIANT step backwards on lighting. Civic does seem to have a better ride and of course more power and better MPG with the 2.0L engine. The Civic EX interior fabric seems to be tarnished a bit already with only 3 weeks ownership @approximately 1000 miles. The arm rest on the doors is CLOTH the same as the seats and it appears to stain easily. The doors should have at least a vinyl covering at minimum in my opinion. Also during this same 3 weeks period I notice the rear glass developed a film of some sort that needed to be cleaned in order to see properly out of it without obscured vision. These are my observations in the 3 weeks I have owned this Civic EX. I traded my Civic EX for 2018 Camry XSE last September and that was a mistake on my part. The only gains were a bit larger car with more room but the Camry was not what I expected from the hype brought forward by Toyota and my own hopes. I did test drive the Camry and it seemed to be better in overall results. The 8 speed automatic in the 2.5L engine is not as expected if you get in a rush. The 1st and 2nd gear doesn't do much except run up the RPM's and hardly goes anywhere. The ride is about the same as the Civic but Toyota's idea of Navigation is NOT as expected along with it does not have Apple Car Play or Android. It has Toyota's own idea of that called Entune 3.0 some without nav and some with navigation if you use your smart phone. No smart phone no nav. Since I have owned my Camry I found out there is another option of nav that comes with a bigger PRICE and you still have to subscribe to Entune (for a fee) after the initial 3 months free trial so I will soon be going back to FORD that has the real user friendly straight forward navigation. The Camry does get good gas mileage but sacrifice low speed power even though it is rated 206 HP for the XSE. The Camry also has great styling and looks but I am overall disappointed in the 18 Camry's performance . Now that I have had the Civic for 6 months I must add a few mentions. We took this Civic out to Las Vegas, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and I must say the gas mileage was phenomenal. We averaged over 43mpg at Interstate speeds. . I currently have about 19,400 miles and experienced what seemed like a wheel hop on the right front when driving interstate speeds on concrete highways with the joints causing that sensation after you have progressed to a smooth surface. I did experience this in Texas and New Mexico on Interstate 40 west bound and on some other highways. I also experienced the front end drifting at highway speeds and unable to keep the vehicle straight. It may need a sway bar or something on the front. I would buy another Civic if Honda would fit the Civic with HID or LED headlamps and at minimum a vinyl trim on the doors including the armrest etc. June 27, 2017: I now have owned the car for 12 months and have 30000 miles on the Civic. I had to replace the Firestone tires at 29000 due to excessive road noise. My dealer told me they were only rated 30000 miles but I couldn't find where they were even rated for mileage. If this is the case poor judgement on tire selection by Honda in my opinion. I have also discovered the REAL cost of ownership with the required service intervals and the cost of the service at the dealer.

I have owned Hondas for approximately 29 years and have never had a problem with the air conditioning. I bought my 2016 Honda new in 2016. In September 2018, the a/c started blowing hot air. Even though I contacted Honda Corporation, case opened. I had to pay approximately $444 for "low side seal, evacuate and recharge system." In July 2019, the a/c is again blowing hot air. Dealer "Replaced a/c compressor an recharged system." Cost to me $1740. In June 2020, again a/c blowing hot air. Dealer "replaced the leaking a/c condensor assy and evacuated and recharged the a/c system." No charge to me as condenser was "recalled." In July 2021, the a/c is again blowing hot air. Dealer diagnosed that I need a new compressor. Called Honda Corporate. As of today, July 17, 2021, still waiting for a return call from a case manager. This is a Honda problem that they are not willing to admit to or cover for consumers. Note: Given 1 star only because a star had to be chosen to submit review.

I had the Touring 6 months 5 K miles and was frustrated by the tech system used. The Bluetooth rarely understood commands, dropped my phone continuously, did not have my phonebook most of the time , rebooted itself, just pure frustration. My wife did not like to noise or seat comfort. Body parts not fitted well. On the good side it got great MPG, looked good, handles well But the turbo lag along with the CVT was frustrating as well, try to get out into traffic was waiting a second till the turbo spools up along with the CVT stunk . Traded it in 9 weeks ago and the dealer is still sitting on it as they lower the price weekly.

It was not that hard to make decision to buy this car. This is our third Honda. Being the car of the year was also an incentive. We also looked into the WV Passat but the reliability issue of the European car was the thing that steered us back to this car. With that said we had this car for almost six months now. It ran flawlessly. There was some issue with the torsional cable in the trunk that came loose and it was an easy fix with a wire-tie. The tire pressure sensor alerted and had to re-calibrate couple times with that touch screen. Nothing major. The car drove nice and sure foot. Turbo is preppy. Not as nice and powerful like our ten years old V6 Accord but it was nice for the money spent. The car has nice curve and look. Some people don't like bulky rear but I think it look OK. I usually hand wash my car during summer and I do notice that the fit near the rear tires and passenger door are not that well made. I had to pop the body panel back in. Look like they need better glue or rivet to hold it in place. Inside cabin has very nice material and fit compare to my Accord. We got 35MPG so far with this car. Haven't driven on HW that much...may be less than 20%. All in all this is a value buy. If this car's Turbo engine and CVT lasted us ten years then it will be a good buy. If not we will have to switch brand or not buy a car with CVT again. We paid $23K ($20.5K for the car + Taxes + finance) total.

I bought it new. It has been a terrific car. It is fun to drive; corners and handles really well. I have the 2 liter engine and the pickup is quite good. On trips I average between 42 and 44 miles per gallon of regular gas. I liked low cars but at age 90 I need something that my wife and I can get into and out of more easily. I would like to sell my car. It has only 34,000 miles on it and is in very good condition. I was interested in a Honda HRV EX 0r a CRV EX hybrid. I rated my civic at 5 stars. I am critical and it deserves all five of those stars.

I spend a lot of time in my car. City, highway, residential, road trips, rain, snow, sun (duh), heavy traffic and late night when the roads are empty. Sometimes all in the same day. I'll keep it succinct: -The car handles all of these conditions amazingly well. -It gets incredible gas mileage in spite of what I put it through. -It's comfortable (although front seat positioning leaves something to be desired). -I'm still relatively low miles, so reliability hasn't been a factor, but no real problems to report. -Android Auto is working great for me (with a Nexus 5X and a Nexus 6). -The engine is sublime. Docile, but not strained, and a beast when you need it. Maybe a bit rumbly, but I hear all direct-injection engines are like that. -CVTs will always be a little wonky by nature, but the benefits outweigh.

I was contemplating between Toyota Corolla Sport and Honda Civic for awhile. I finally decided to purchase the Honda Civic due to its great design and well-known reliability and performance. The test drive was impressive. With that said, after a few weeks of driving the car, it has its hiccups. For example, the driver's seat is a bit uncomfortable because of the angle and cheap fabric. The USB feature doesn't recognize my android phone or a USB media device, while the bluetooth capability stutters frequently. Noise cancellation is zero. I can hear the tires going over speed bumps, grooves on the roads, and uneven pavement. The radio does help mask the noise a bit but nothing impressive. Pros: all the entertainment features, phenomenal braking system, and acceleration. Overall, the new Civic offers more than enough for money. Hopefully it will lasts through graduate school and then some.

Best Civic Since 2000

I grew up in the 90's. Saw lot's of Civics during that time and to date, my best car was my standard transmission 94 Civic EX coupe. I love that car. drove it up to 200k miles, but needed something more reliable. However, by time I got rid of it, it was during Honda's "I don't care what the civic's look like" era. Yes, the civic has always been reliable and efficient car, but I am not just about efficiency. I don't want a bland looking car. I want something that actually looks great. So that being said, I have not bought nor even considered a Civic for over 15 years. Then I saw a teaser picture for the 2016 Civic and thought it was too good to be true. I mean, how many concept cars actually look like the care on the lot. But to my surprise, It looked amazing. I waited no time nor asked my wife to buy one. I bought an EX-T because I wanted the 1.5 turbo. The pick up is strong. It handles great. I like to drive in s mode for the acceleration and since gas is cheap right now, why not? It's very spacious. Almost as big as the 07 accord models. I don't care for leather, but even my cloth seats have heated seats. Navigation has never been a huge selling point for me. I have a iphone. And now with apple car play, I have navigation on my display, so why pay the extra for it. the only thing it did not have that I wanted was LED headlights, but I had those installed asap and matching fog lights. My only two complaints are 1) road noise and 2) the climate controls. I don't like having to have to hit a separate display for climate on my touch screen. I'd rather have separate knobs. As for road noise, Honda has never had the best luck with that. They all have seemed loud. I never really cared until I got married because I had my radio up so loud that I never heard it. But now, since I have to talk with my wife on road trips, I notice it greatly.

First Honda we have been disappointed in...

We purchased this car thinking we would drive it for a year, then pass it on to our child that is turning 16. We took it on our first weekend getaway and couldn't get out of it fast enough. The seats are very uncomfortable for long drives. The road noise is pretty significant. The climate 90% of the climate controls are behind a touch screen and when that touch screen locks up, which it does constantly, you can't access your climate controls. The only option is to push the auto button and let the car decide based on the temperature you select. But, you have no controls on whether it is blowing at your feet, in your face, how hard/soft it is blowing and whether the A/C is off or on. We actually had to pull off to the side of the freeway and restart the car to get the touch screen computer screen to reboot. The other thing we notice constantly is that people are always trying to cut in our lane because they have trouble seeing the car because it sits sow low. The bluetooth isn't as great as my last car and it is hard for people to understand you when they are on the listening end. The biggest surprise when we got home... and something every car we have owned for the last 10 years has had... there is no remote control garage door opening. Something so simple and so inconvenient... seriously Honda? We drive a lot and the only thing that we love about this car is the gas mileage and the pickup it has because of the turbo, and that is honestly the only two things that have kept it in our driveway. Otherwise, we would have traded or sold it. I can't speak to reliability or longevity yet. But, I can tell you I am 100% discouraged by the crappy touch screen that constantly locks up. It has been doing this from the day we purchased it and we have only owned it for a little more than a month. My guess is that it will probably get traded in next year if we don't start feeling differently.

Great Car, but audio system fails to initialize

I picked up a 2016 Civic Touring about a week ago, and the audio system fails to initialize about half of the times I turn on the car. This means that the radio, navigation voice, and bluetooth phone do not emit sound through the speaker system. The dealer verified that this is an issue with the car, and told me to just keep turning off and on the car until the audio system works (believe it or not), and to 'check back in a few months to see if there is a fix'. This problem shows up only randomly- I should have restarted the car at the dealership a few times to experience the problem. I do hear clicking during adaptive cruise control and the high-pitched turbo. Neither is particularly annoying, but they're noticeable. Other than that, this is so much better than my last car that I can't really fine-tune the categories above very well. Except for that crazy audio issue.

I bought the 2016 Civic Sedan EX-L before New Years and I have had nothing but headaches since. I have had multiple issues and made several calls to Honda about these issues. First issue, my radio display screen stopped working and showed a warning similar to an Internet browser Wait or Close Program. I'm driving a new car which never should it close program for obvious safety reasons especially if you bought with Honda Sensing. Second problem I had was LaneWatch camera stopped working. When I turn on turn signal the radio would remain on the audio display. Third, an area button on my radio display space stopped responding to touch, which was not confirmed despite having a video of this. The Honda dealer could only verify my camera was not working and but could not address my other concerns which is ridiculous considering I have a video of my radio not working. Less than a month after buying my car several major service light turned on. These include power steering, braking system, parking brake system, up-hill assist, traction control error and tire pressure. My radio display audio button stopped working but was working so they could not verify an issue. The a different dealership was able to observe my radio display unit not work and decided to replace the information display unit. My camera has stopped working again but started before I could get it back in the shop. My major question is why my camera stopped working but the service department could not verify an issue. I attempted to put on my parking brake but the brake did not turn on the light blinked but did not engage. The service department could not replicate it was several days later and the car did not do that once I restarted the car. Except I have a brand new Honda Civic that has already taken a huge resale value hit because who wants a car with this many issue. The car has less than 1,500 miles on it and it has been anything but a turn-key experience. Don't trust the Honda Customer Care Hotline if they say no one has reported these issues because I have. I have made several calls to Honda Care Center and have received terrible service and some rude responses from the employees there granted I was rude and frustrated because it is a new car. I requested a new case manager be assigned but have since been contact by the same individual multiple times. They claim that they are unable to contact me through email and that I can't receive any communication other than telephone calls. I want to record the conversations with Honda Customer Care but was told if I state the call maybe recorded their policy is to not continue the call. Honda has given me no choice but to contact the NHTSA to report the problem with the eps unit, and parking brake problem. I will be contacting the necessary agencies to determine what I can do under state law.

This is my 4th Honda! 2008 Honda Civic great car! 2015 CRV NOT a great car... Now this... I read some reviews of this car where people were comparing it to an Audi and I just did not believe it... So I went and test drove it and WOW. Ok this is not an Audi but its a massive step forward from what the Civic has been in the past. It feels very up scale when you sit in it as quality of the interior and seeing it in a parking lot reminds you of a german luxury car look. Also as far as I could tell not one part of the interior of the car had parts from any other Honda its ALL new designs! I think maybe the cabin lights are the same as the old Civic... Drive: (9/10 for a small lowish cost car) The steering is very agile and quick to respond. I love the new steering wheel its a lot thicker then any Honda I have been in. Cornering is above average you don't have a lot of feedback as to what the wheels are doing... But I don't mind this is not a race car. Suspension is vastly better then what I had in my old Civic and I like it more then my CRV. Its more sporty feeling and controlled yet soaks up bumps well enough. Noise in the cabin is much less then I expected for the price of this car by far more quiet then my old Civic and I think its even more quiet then the CRV (I did not measure just how I feel...) Performance (9/10 for a small lowish cost car) I think I saw on car and driver they say this will do 0-60 in 6.8 and if you compare that to the BMW 320 its 6.6 0-60. So for the cost of this car I think it has plenty of power. Way more fun to drive compared to the 2008 version. Now you do have to floor it to get the performance because the throttle response is tuned to more of an economy setting but that is ok. So far I am getting over 30 MPG in city driving loving that and if I need the power its there. One thing with the turbo you have a bit of a dead spot in the power band in stop and go traffic but its really not that big of a deal for me just wanted to note it. Also of all the CVT haters out there I am loving this transmission! Its so smooth and if you research it they are proven to be better overall for most people to get maximum performance at all times since it has almost infinite gears vs. a 6 speed and you get better mileage! One thing... Honda seems to have added fake shift points to this CVT BOO!!!! just let it work how its intended you don't need to fake them PLZ HONDA (Ignore the haters)!!!! Confort and space (8.9 for a small lowish cost car) I love the new seats they put in these cars and the leather feels great! Its a great balance between sporty and comfort. I think for long trips the front seats have enough room for most any one. The back seats have a lot more then the old Civic but they are still a bit small but most people would fit no problem maybe on an all day driving trip the back might be a bit small and if you were really tall the roof does come down a bit back there. I am 5.10 and did not have any issue... 6 foot would. Cargo area / trunk is improved over the old civic enough for most wanting a small car I think. I don't like how the back opens seems like its not as wide of an opening as the old civic had. I also don't like that the passthrough when the seats are down does not go completely flat. A note... I have seen some cars come with cargo compartments under the trunk floor I think that would be a nice add on... Seems like a low cost thing why not? Entertainment and other (8.0) One of the things that convinced me to buy this car was the Apple Car play built in. So far it has worked great! I love using it to navigate and getting my messages and music info right in the dashboard. (Love the digital gages(MPH and RPM)! Why is this not in all Honda's!) So for the Honda stuff I do like it better then whats in my 2015 CRV (Its about 4x as fast and a bit cleaner interface). What is odd when comparing it to the CRV is that when you do the lane watch (camera to watch the traffic in the right side of the car... Love this feature!) the CRV is so slow to activate the camera guessing the CPU in that is less powerful then whats in the Civic. So that being said with the Honda stuff its just ok nothing too fancy it gets the job done. One other thing I like is the volume control the steering wheel is touch sensitive so you can slide your thumb on the steering wheel to adjust the volume cool stuff. I do thing the sir / voice button on the steering wheel could be bigger... I use it a lot its hard to distinguish compared to the other buttons. One last down side is that I wish I had gotten the touring because the speakers in this version are not that great. If you don't like bass then these sound very good they have high highs and great mids but not much bass. I wish I could have an option for an upgraded sound system in the EX L version oh well... So over all I love this car I am very happy with my decision to get this. I will update as I get more miles put on the car...

I ordered one of the touring addition civics well before they were available. I'm very pleased with my purchase. The car is awesome-great style, good electronics, great handling, and comes with Honda reliability. I was blown away at how quiet the car was in comparison my Acura. It's about the same size on the inside as my TL but significantly quieter with better fuel economy. The interior design and electronics are excellent, and Apple CarPlay is a homerun. I only have a couple of small gripes on the vehicle. First of all, they should make one adjustment to the Honda sensing package. Specifically blind spot monitors are much better solutions and the lane watch camera. Lane watch only helps you on the passenger side and doesn't do anything for the driver side. Putting the sensors and for blind spot warning would be A significant improvement. Secondly, and only time will tell, my fuel economy combined is running about 27 MPG. With the ratings on the car being 35 combined, this is a bit of a disappointment but I'm hoping it improves over time. Finally, the fit on the leather seats just isn't nearly as good as the fit on the cloth seats. The clock is much more comfortable and the leather just isn't as tight. Overall I am extremely pleased with the vehicle and suspect that I'll see a lot more on the road and coming months.

High-end amenities with a modest price tag

We've leased a number of basic Honda Civic Sedans over the years and have been satisfied with both the reliability and solid driving experience of these cars. This time out we wanted to purchase something a bit more upscale that looked great, rode well and had a lot more bells and whistles. That said we didn't want to pay the price for a new BMW, Lexus or Mercedes. We considered the option of a pre-owned luxury car but recognized that starting with 20-30K miles on a pre-owned vehicle, we could expect to see repairs sooner and at a premium price. At the Honda dealership we took a look at the strikingly sharp redesigned 2016 Honda Civics and test drove their top of the line Touring model. This model really fit the bill for us. It had all of the bells and whistles we wanted - active sensing safety features, touchscreen navigation, premier audio system, LED lights, heated front & rear seats, leather trim, and 17 inch wheels. The 1.5 liter turbocharged transmission provided plenty of power , great handling and terrific gas mileage. And the price tag was very appealing for everything this car offered. We've driven it for a month and could not be more pleased with the purchase.

Not the best in all areas, but very good in most. Car would be near perfect if it had the automatic from the Mazda3 instead of a CVT. Body panel gaps are too wide, reminiscent of a 1990's Saturn S series. Some materials are cheap, i.e. rear seat, rear door interior panels. Sheet metal is incredibly thin, hood oil cans when you gently wash the car. That's the bad. On the good side, 40mpg is easily attainable. Very good visibility from the driver's seat--thank you Honda for not following the high beltline, bathtub seating position trend these days. Full safety suite is available at modest cost on most trims. Turbo engine has just enough power to never feel too strained--decently quick in most situations. Quiet, road and wind noise are very well controlled. Modern interior design. Great gauge cluster. Decent stereo for a stock system. Car feels more expensive than it is, with a few notable exceptions such as the aforementioned body gaps. Mid level EX-T trim is the value play of the lineup in my opinion. You get heated seats, dual zone climate control, remote start, moonroof, decent alloy wheels, the turbo engine, electronic gauges, and a decent stereo for roughly $21k at the time of this review. The base car is well equipped for a few grand less. Add a grand for Honda Sensing active safety system if you want it. The CVT is less obtrusive than in our 2014 Civic, by far, and works better with the turbo than the NA engine. Best value in the compact car class as of May, 2016 in my opinion. The upcoming Subaru Impreza may give the Civic a run for the money, we shall see. But as of today, the Jetta, Sentra, Corolla, etc, all seem cheap and dated compared to the Honda. The Mazda3 is my second place in segment, but doesn't match the Honda in value for the dollar. Civic feels a lot roomier inside, especially in back. Also, the 3 is really noisy in comparison, and feels less refined than the Civic. Focus isn't bad, but is getting long in the tooth and rear seat space stinks. The new Cruze is promising, but probably won't have the same reliability and resale value of a Honda, unfortunately. I haven't driven the Cruze yet to comment otherwise. UPDATE 12/1/16 I thought I'd add some more impressions of the car. I continue to be impressed with the car overall, and I stand by my opinion that this car is the best in segment. However, a couple of things continue to grate on my a little bit. The sheet metal is ridiculously thin. Washing the car is tedious. The hood and roof oil can easily. Also, the body panel gaps are wider and less consistent than on our 2014 prior-gen Civic. The newer Civic is much more engaging to drive, but materials quality is down, as is attention to assembly detail. It's not a deal breaker, but having owned a number of Hondas, this is the first one we've owned where the cost cutting by corporate has been so obvious. I'd pay a little more for more stout sheet metal panels, and better seat fabric. The driver's door, for instance, feels and sounds really "tinny" compared to our 2014 model of the same car. No doubt, the power train of the newer Civic is a major improvement, and the car overall is better. But some things were lost in the change from 9th to 10th generation.

A few days after purchase, Bluetooth stopped working, clock couldn't keep time, and there was no color on the touchscreen. This happens every 5-7 days, so basically works for a week, broke for a week. The Bluetooth is interfering with my job, so it's important for it to work! Honda has informed me they know about the problem and are working on a fix, but it's taking so long! Also sometimes when I exit the car there's a rapid beep, a warning, but nothing seems to be wrong, I have to re-open and close the door for a normal beep to ensure cars off and locked! So far, buying a new Honda has been a huge annoyance disappointment!

Honda Civic vs. Toyota Prius

Irv Haas, 03/24/2016

Having been a loyal Toyota Prius customer for over 10 years, I was anxiously awaiting the newly-styled 2016 model. When few Prius models were in stock at the beginning of 2016, I wanted to take a look at other models such as the Honda Civic which I owned 15 years ago. I took a a test ride of the Civic and was really impressed with its features, specially its Honda Sensing ones. I was already aware that I wanted the new Prius to have a strong safety technology package. Upon closer inspection I realized that the Civic actually had more safety features than the Prius. But the deciding factor was that the Touring model was priced about $3000 less than the Prius comparably equipped. With the Civic, the only thing I was missing was the Prius' great MPG rating. But that $3000 savings would buy a lot of gas! On a day in early January I visited 2 Honda dealers just on a scouting mission not planning to buy. But after the second dealer, I pulled the trigger and bought the Touring model that includes so many features found on luxury cars: leather seats, moonroof, safety package, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto just to name a few. Why would I ever go back to the Prius?

I owned this car for about two months. Purchased in January 2016 and had nothing, but issues with it. Purchased it at night (very dark burgundy), will never do that again. Noticed the next day a small curve in the roof, that shouldn't be there. Spent months contacting the dealer, the Honda factory and the American headquarters. Although the dealer visually accepted the deformation existed, they would not replace the car. The wanted to fix it, like a dent wizard type thing. No, not after just spending $21k. Also, the electronic system went haywire while I was driving. Got system failure notices from the ABS, airbag system, brake systems, speed control and one or two others. I even took a photos of the failure notices and sent them to the dealership and a consumer magazine. Then they had a recall of some versions, because of an improperly installed piston ring. The consumer magazine mentioned in the annual report of vehicle reliability that they'd receive some complaints about some build quality issues. The only comfort issue I had was the seat was not padded enough and the seat bottom provided absolutely no thigh support for long drive. Within two months I'd had it with this car, and replaced it with a new Sonata, that has been excellent. Now, I will say this 2016 Honda was a hoot to drive. It is much larger inside than it looks. It handled well and you felt like you were on a skateboard. I just think the initial build quality of some of the first ones off the production line could have been better.

I traded in my 2013 Civic for a new 2016 Civic. I loved my 2013. I do not love my 2016. I have had it for 4 months and already it has had 2 recalls. I hate the technology system, far to complicated to work. In order to turn the radio on you need to click on 3 buttons (Audio, Source, Station). This means you are taking your eyes off the road while driving. The Econ button on the 2013 Civic was right where it should be, on the dash. The 2016 Econ button is located next to the gear shift box and you have to hunt for it. Yes, you can sort of feel for it, but that is a pain and again you are taking yours eyes off the road. When openning the front car door at night the only light that comes in located above in the back seating area, making it difficult to see as you enter the car. The USB and Power port is tucked behind the small tray in the front. A pain to push wires through and connect. My clock is frozen, tells me a different time that the clock on the odometer screen. I have a problem with a noise issue, when you come to a slow stop you can hear your branks making a noise. I brought the car in to the deal for this problem and they cannot fit it, told me the brakes checked out fine and after testing a couple of other 2016 Civics they noticed the same issue on all of them. (Said they would let Honda USA know about this.) All-in-all, I do not like this car and am looking to purchase a different 2016 brand.

I drove an Accord Ex-L for 17 years and a Prelude for 13 before. New Civic EX-L Navi brought me into New technology ..love everything....but the road noise on concrete highways...on asphalts runs like a dream...and around town I am counting my lucky stars. Love my new Civic...oh and did I mention the beautiful Blue color

The one complaint I have is the passenger seat is too low! Feels like the passenger is sitting in a hole. Bought a cushion to help a bit. The Sirius antennae cover on the roof is too large--looks like a shark fin! I do like the car and safety features. Expensive car tho!

I love my 2016 Honda Civic LX! It drives great and it has everything I wanted in a car. It gets 41 mpg and I love the way it drives. The only thing I don't like is that the passenger seat is so low and can't be raised. The driver seat has a pump that raises it up and down but the passenger side doesn't.

2016 Honda Civic EX-T 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

Driven the first 1000 miles, time for a review. At first I was apprehensive to getting a Honda Civic, I wanted an Audi (lol). I convinced my fiancee to get the turbo trim, EX-T, and I'm very happy we did so. That adds the heated seats and the bigger engine over the EX, which gives a significant bump in performance. Even with driving in NYC and highways I was averaging 36mpg in a tank (which is the EPA est). I personally don't like the CVT engine.. when you floor it from a red light there's a significant throttle delay, but it's not horrible, it is a Honda and not a Ferrari after all. On a one hour highway trip doing a steady 75mph nearly the entire hour I got 40mpg, pretty amazing! 80mph on the highway feels very comfortable and throwing the car into Sport Mode to pass a car going from 60-90 is like nothing; you don't feel the car struggling at all, unlike my previous car a 2012 Corolla S. But the road noise from the tires/car in the cabin is significant, but it isn't German car obviously, but louder than my Corolla. Still the car is 1000x better, road noise is the only downside. The interior seats are very comfortable, and the dash is informative and clear. Now my biggest gripe is the center screen. Apple Car Play works great, but whenever your phone is connected/plugged in the music defaults to the phone, even if you had it on let's say FM, for example. So you have to click Source each time to switch the audio source which is annoying when you're driving. The screen overall is a bit pain in the ass I wish there were actually just real buttons instead of faux touch ones on the side for home, volume (which is also on the streeing wheel) and etc. Tuning the radio is a pain having to use the touch screen only. The first few hundred miles the screen would wig out and restart/freeze on me but that hasn't happened lately, maybe it was breaking in. The sound system is very crisp, I'm impressed. Overall for the price and quality, it's the best car in it's class in my opinion. There are going to be gripes with any car, but I would highly recommend it. In my opinion, paying for the leather isn't worth it unless you actually want it because you're paying $1,000 more just for that without any additional features. Personally if you're interested in buying the Touring line, you might as well look at an Audi A3. The EX-T is the perfect balance for performance and features at an awesome price.

Beware the air conditioning problems!

2016 Civic - within 3 months the air conditioner stopped working, it was the compressor that failed to turn on - replaced under warranty but had to wait a WEEK for the part to come in. Within 1st year there was a brake recall. This model has a tiny button brake (not a brake handle but an electronic button you press) and it had to be reprogrammed so that it could be activated after you turned off the car. I hate that little brake button thus the reason of the low marks for that, also the usb port is behind the console on the bottom where you can't see and hard to reach. NOTE: Dealership will give you the canned message that there is ONE part of the air conditioning unit not under warranty, and it's vulnerable to being hit by a rock going through the big grill holes in front of the car and costs $900 to replace. Install your own mesh grill to the front of your car! Dealership also charges $90 for diagnosis test. Read up on the forums about the problems with the air conditioner in the civic model going bad within 1-2 years of purchase, poorly made compressor and condensor part that break down so often they have to be backordered for repair. $500 freon refill. Beware the cost of fixing your air conditioner! I would not have bought this car if I knew about the air conditioning problems already existing in this model. Today 6/12/2019 air conditioner stops working again and have to wait until next week to get appointment to see dealership.
