This car is just a nice, safe, reliable car for the money. After some time of ownership now, we've noticed that they all have weird whistling noises that come from the climate control system. Small issue, but annoying.

Great looking car from a distance but the closer you get the cheaper it look. The headlights look great once you look at the led strip doesn't cover the light there are dead pixels. Awfuel interior storage with very bad placed cup holders. Lack technology and comfort.

The Civic is much more luxurious than I expect. The cabin is very quiet, something you would find in a more expensive car. It has a blind side camera, so when want turn right or make a lane change to right, the blind spot on passenger side pops up on the led screen. Very handy in the city, when there are bicyclist in your blind spot. Over all very happy with the purchase.

Research the DEALER as much as the car!

The cabin of this car is small and is not conducive of 5 people traveling. I am 5'4" and if I position my driver seat to comfort my driving. I can not comfortably fit in the backseat. The cup holders are small, although there is a larger one underneath there is only one, that is usable only if the smaller tray is removed. The compartments in the door can not hold even a water bottle. The USB connection underneath the radio is apparently not compatible with (HTC, Galaxy, IPhone), although it worked fine for the first month! The other USB port is a 1.5 port and it takes a lengthy period of time to charge 'anything'. The stereo has been beeping and switching screens since two months after I purchased it (bought in April 2016). Between two dealerships here was an update done on the stereo and low and behold....same problem. The dashboard houses a loading circle everyday which prohibits me from seeing the speed and every other feature of the the dash screen. HONDA CORP AND THE DEALERS HAVE DONE NOTHING AND NOW I FIND MYSELF IN A LAWSUIT TO REPLACE A STEREO. ***UPDATE: As of July 2017 my stereo's parts have finally, finally been replaced. I have waited over a year and half to have this fixed which is scream for help as far as Honda standing by their product. Furthermore, I have been having trouble as an expecting mom with the height of vehicle (sits too low), and the room in the vehicle is barely sufficient to hold an infant car seat and use the front seat properly. a reduction of the trunk to add more space to the cabin would be a PLUS!!!

getting in and out of car can be little inconvenient. I felt the Pickup was ok not great. Drove it to Hoston Tx and back runs good, good mileage, For long trips be ready to fill often as the gas tank is only 10 gallon.

I traded my Honda Civic LXP coupe. Seat comfort wasn't that great, in fact I had to buy a cushion. Interior and exterior materials did not seem to be of good quality. Radio system wasn't very good sounding. Very good gas mileage but that is where it stops for pro's. Difficult to get in and out of backseat.

Poor Acceleration on Steep Hills

Looking and comparing between Honda Civic LX with CVT XMSN and Mazda 3. The engine of civic roared when climbing up a hill without increasing or maintaining the original speed. The engine rpm didn't go higher than about 3400 and the car slowed down while climbing small hills. I think this is an attribute of CVT. I also rode a Toyota Prius in Pennsylvania that has CVT as well and it reminded me of that. Also, Mazda 3 has much more technology features than civic. I found civic interior dull and flat as compared to Mazda 3. I think I'm going with Mazda 3 since these two cars are very close with every other feature and Mazda 3 has traditional 6 speed automatic XMSN.

2016 Honda Civic = PIECE OF CRAP

I really had to stop myself from giving this vehicle all 1 stars throughout the rating, but I tried to be unbiased as possible. Long story short, after 5500 miles my fiance had to replace the entire transmission. Yes, everything was covered. But the total experience throughout the fixing process completely ruined my trust in Honda as a company. I took the car in for an oil change and to check the transmission (when putting the car in drive, it will take a few seconds then jump into gear). Not a big deal, but the car is brand new, so I took it right into the dealership. Checked in the car 6:30am. 9 am rolls around, still no word. After speaking to the rep, he said the tech was on the phone with Honda engineer because it's a brand new model of the civic. Makes sense. After 2 days of me calling to check on the car, (not the dealership calling me to inform me) they finally put in the order for the trans without even calling me first. That was their first mistake. Then they said it will be in on a Friday, didn't show up until the following Wednesday. Luckily we were on vacation and didn't need the car anyway. The rep told me our civic was the first one to have this problem. I get it, things happen. But what did Honda do to regain our trust? One free oil change. We are currently looking for another vehicle now and never buying another Honda. Until this day, Honda still doesn't know what's wrong with the trans. I wouldn't recommend this car to my worse enemy.

HONDA DESIGNERS BEWARE...The Touring model is really a beautiful car until you notice the front and rear seats are completely different!?! The front seats are perforated leather worthy of luxury cars, but rear seats are of plain jane variety reminding you of police cruisers and taxicabs (puke!)

I have always wanted a Honda Civic always dreamed of having one! The deal breaker was the price of the car and available tech options. I hate leather seats....I shouldn't have to upgrade to the highest model to get satellite radio. My major requirements were Bluetooth, satellite radio, leather wrapped shift knob....the car drives great but having to pay so much for a base model with no satellite radio...even on the fit it's not standard...I went with a Kia Forte.

I purchased this car three weeks ago and was initially very impressed , you get a lot of car for the money. Day one the blue tooth kicks me out after 54 seconds. So the next day back to dealer who sets up phone again, and 54 seconds later the phone is dropped. I have an older phone not a smart phone but it works great in our 2016 BMW and 2011 lexus. Third trip to dealer told my phone was old, but my wife i phone 6 only lasts 2 minutes. This a known problem with the civics, finally the tech guy looked at the car and said there are problems. Three weeks and under 300 miles and the radio system needs to be replaced. Skip this car for now , no loner no free oil changes just a headache.

Great re-design of the Civic, especially the tail lights and overall body. Good value from one of the most reliable and almost maintenance free cars on the market. Air conditioner is loud when on full tilt so fan adjustment needed to hear music.

It's another buzzy four cylinder overpriced import. The car magazines will gush over it initially, then back off in a couple of years. Honda's reputation for reliability is well deserved and is a big plus. But the car is small and feels cramped. It does handle well. The tech is good, especially blind spot detection. For the same money you can get a nice Kia Optima or Mazda3 or Mazda6 even. They deserve to be driven too.

Quality Control Lacking

Never buy a first year model is something you hear a lot but never expect to have to worry about with a Honda. However the car looked good upon delivery and I was happy to drive home w apple car play duel climate zones and a sunroof! Not to mention the thought of saving at the pump w good mpg's. Maybe I should have looked at the car more closely but with a new car you don't expect to have to go over the car with a magnifying glass or the white glove treatment esp. w a Honda...I pull in the garage with my new car and discover the front bumper is not lined up on the driver side it is poorly placed and I don't think should have passed inspecting in the factory but it did! also the chrome trim is made up of 3 pieces above the front grille and 2 of the 3 were not on correctly either. The radio also froze on me once. The good is that the dealer fixed or seemed to fix the radio and chrome trim. After 4 trips for the front bumper and having to call customer service and the dealer would not willingly give me a loaner car they only made that problem worse chipping the seemingly thin paint. This was a brand new car w 5 miles on it when I drove it. It also developed a window rattle or some rattle around the car that was never investigated as I decided to return the car for an Accord...problem solved? No because the Accord was also new in dark blue gray trim and I was happy until at home again I found missing paint on the car it was down to bare metal on the A pillar w no paint no rust just silver metal no under coating etc. a poor paint job which had blemishes and other imperfections on the hood and various places. I think drive the car around town and with only 200 miles the cars air bag lights go off and according to the owners manual mean no airbags are working now and I should not drive the car....I called Honda who towed the car to the dealer and exchanged it for now my 3rd car all of these were new. So far almost 4k miles on it and no issues other than the black roof trim that runs along the roof is coming up slightly on the passenger side and the glove box does not appear to be completely lined up correctly basically bad panel gap from the great and mighty Honda. Quality control seems to be lacking at the moment and I don't plan on buying another Honda however they did give me a 500.00 gift card for my troubles from corp. the dealership was not very helpful in actually being able to fix the issues I just had to argue for a 3rd car in a matter of weeks and sell the civic back at a loss. The Accord was just exchanged as they hadn't even processed the paperwork for the blue one due to it being on a weekend lucky me and discovering all of its issues with in a matter of days!

It handles well on the road. It has a roomy trunk and the interior is larger than expected, which is a good thing. I like that the driver has a clear field of vision and the driver and passenger mirrors are well placed. I mention this as I was thinking about getting a different car make and model from another manufacturer, but the exterior mirror placement was not my style. I've not had a chance to do any service or maintenance, let alone fill the gas tank. My teenage son has already called dibs and says he really, really likes it. We've had different cars and have gone back to Honda as it has a reputation for reliability, longevity and for holding its value. Jay at Norm Reeves Honda in Irvine was very helpful in getting us a car that fit our budget with a car that had style. He was very thorough in going over all the functions, controls and swag. Thanks for going the extra mile to get the color we wanted.

After looking at a few makers of cars I chose the Civic. The three main reasons were, previous experience with Honda product, Honda service experience, and I liked the new model. The four star rating I gave it was because the fifth star is earned threw the test of time. If it does as well as my other Honda products, it will earn one more star. Update. Great gas mileage (35.2 combined). Quieter than previous Civic but still highway speeds a little loud. You seam to sit lower in the cockpit than previous model which is good for taller driver. My wife and I are shorter drivers so I wish both front seats could be adjusted higher. You can det used to it but it would be on my wishlist. Update 8-5-18. Car still preforms great. Great gas’Mileage. Not one issue to date. Only problem I have is old age. Hips and knees don’t like the low seats. Might consider going to HRV. Did finally win go with more upright CX3 Mazda in late 2018. Might have went with HRV, but it seamed underpowered. Also production problem made Wharton’s I wanted unavailable.

The car handles and drives really well. The seats are comfortable, and the finishes are high quality. There are many things in the car that are not found in more expensive cars, such as the automatic brake hold and choices on rear view camera angle. Gas mileage is stellar. I use this as a commuter car.

Great Car but....

BryG, 03/30/2017

So I went with the EX 2.0 sensing. Part of the reason was the 16in rim size allows for a little more tire which provides a softer ride especially on awful NY roads. This is my third Civic after an 09 and 14. It rides better and quieter than both. Unless you are comparing it to a Buick, I'd say it rides great and is comfortable for its class. The 2 liter has good power but almost has that laggy feeling sometimes making me wish I went with the turbo. I'm not a huge fan of the CVT but it works leaps and bounds better of the old 5 speed automatics. Normally I go with the manual but you can't get the EX Sensing in manual and I wanted to try that tech out. The adaptive cruise control is awesome! I'm always behind drivers that can't decide how fast they want to go and adaptive cruise takes care of that. The lane keep assist is very cool and works best on state highways or Interstates as long as the lines are fairly visible. And its just awesome watching the car steer it self, keep a finger on the wheel and your pretty much good to go. It will get mad if you let go of the wheel for a few seconds. Very roomy interior, I'm 6'1 and its fine and I can sit behind my normal driver position fairly comfortable as well. The gauges are awesome. The overall layout makes you feel like you're in a more expensive car. Now for the bad, the stereo! The connectivity to my Iphone almost always needs to be redone in some way, unplugging and plugging back in, it will just switch sources on me like from Pandora to Apple Music usually right when I get out of the driveway. Maybe Bluetooth will connect, maybe It wont? And lately the screen has been turning off on me for a few seconds here and there. Sound quality is ok at best. They should really offer a stereo upgrade for all trim levels like to a JBL or something as It is not east to upgrade modern car stereos yourself. So I give the stereo situation an F, it fails big time. Being someone who likes music, that is enough for me to start looking at other brands. That being said, I do enjoy the car very much. I lease, and can say Honda has had great Leases so far, saving you thousands of dollars especially if you are a new every 3 person it is the only way to go.

Great looking car, both inside and out. I'm very pleased with the ride- much more planted and quieter than older civics. Found out you need an IPhone 5 at least- so I am without music so far. Would a CD player kill ya Honda??

I have a black civic and find the paint does scratch easy. I had the gun metal color on my prior car and LOVED it. I would never purchase the off white cloth again. Even rain will stain it. I had a black cloth and found the hair stuck to it terribly. I had a gray interior and LOVED it. Most importantly is the MPG is wonderful. The AC is great. I am the only one in my car but if I had back passengers I think it would be tight. I miss a CD player.

Traded in a Golf GTI to get a 2016 Honda Civic 1.5 T coupe. I had been disappointed with the direction Honda had been going with their Civics and even the Si version. Numb steering and not great handling .This new iteration (as of 2016) was a delight on the test drive. The seating position, the seats and most of all the steering feel and weight. Yes in a Civic . Absolutely gratifying. I have had the car for 2.5 years and it is a joy to drive everyday. I did get rid of the OEM Conti tires which were horrible in the snow and put on MIchelins which have been fantastic in all seasons here in the NE. The entertainment system would keep crashing with blue tooth so I went with a wire connection to my iPhone (turned off the Bluetooth) to use Apple Car play and it has been flawless since. I hope Honda keeps this up and continues to inject driving fun into its cars like the old days in the 80s and 90s.

You Can't Go Wrong Buying a Honda

I had owned a 2002 Honda Accord before this car and absolutely LOVED it. I decided on a smaller car for fuel economy ( which is about 40 miles per gallon highway and 35 stop and go) and price. The 2016 Civic is fun to drive and it's cute, but without the turbo, it's slow to pick up. Some of my favorite features are the defrost (one touch and it comes on full blast), the doors automatically locking when I want them to because of my personal settings, the keyless entry (which I thought I wouldn't like), the location of the trunk release, the gas cap unlocking when the car is unlocked, and the autostart. Everything is so easy to use and works well on this car. Passengers have commented how clear my back up camera is. The bluetooth is amazing! I have the cloth seats which I am not thrilled with; I'm afraid of damaging them so I cover them with seat covers made for dogs. I find the inside of the car roomy. I can fit my 5 shelties in the back seat at one time. Three sit on the seat and two like staying on the floor. I had liked the controls on my Accord because the buttons were easy to reach, whereas, a lot of the controls on the Civic are on a touch screen. I find the new technology very distracting because I take my eyes off the road to look at it, for example when a message pops up. I had learned to love cruise control in my Accord, but with the new technology, the car brakes suddenly if someone gets too close to me when they jump in front of me or even on a curve. The worst feature on this car are the headlights. I have a hard time seeing at night, so now I rarely drive at that time. I was recently rear ended by a tractor trailer that didn't see me when I was waiting to make a left turn. I thought for sure the car was going to be totaled, but it survived the impact. This is one well-made car! I'm hoping this will be the last car I buy, but if not, I'm buying another Honda. Update: Sadly this car went to Car Heaven. I still can't believe it. My daughter drove it through a huge puddle where it died. :(

Once you are in this car you will find comfort and at the same time it gives you a feeling of sitting in a sporty car. I am 6’4”, with a bad back and while the car is lower than the SUV I had before it’s door opening is big so there is no head banging getting in and out. The transmission is a very smooth easy to use device that just makes you feel connected to the car. The hold feature which I do not need takes all the worry of roll back while starting on a hill. The reason I bought this car was not just because of Honda resale and dependability but because it makes driving fun. I have taken three long trips and on each I had tanks of 43.6 mpg. Never on a long trip have I gotten below 39mpg. Around town I am getting 32-36 mpg never below 32 mpg. Also this engine comes alive after 3500rpm. It is not fast but from the drivers seat it feels quick. I bought this car in July 2017 and have had for a year. Stupid detail will not let me post year.

Good Can ALWAYS Be Better

Purchased September 2016-Within my first week my car was pouring out oil from an apparent defective oil filter. Within the first few months I had to manually unlock my car because the car/remote were not communicating, and the dealership could not find a cause during the multiple times they’ve done diagnostics. Now a year later, I still have occasionally electrical issues like when the keys are still in my pocket and the proximity alarm sounds and the walk away feature does not engage, so I have to manually press the lock button. My road departure & lane assist has activated multiple times even when I’m not near a line or drifting. I also feel the MPG is inaccurate despite how it’s collected; even on an hour highway drive, with adaptive cruise, though open highway so virtually no slowing, I still have yet to see anything get close to the 40 MPG mark. Now, ECON is on as well as a 72 degree climate control, and if that is what is causing 10 MPG off a gallon then I would say that’s excessive, NOT economical. I am also STILL working with Honda and the dealership to fix my visors; I believe they are defective (too loose especially when telescoped). I get hit in the head every time I make a left turn which at first was extremely distracting and dangerous, which now requires me to hold it back. The passenger visor has already slammed into the rear view mirror, which is nothing like I’ve experienced before. All of these issues is requiring me to spend way too much time at the dealership getting things fixed rather than any regularly scheduled maintenance.

I really like the Civic from this year. The car drives great and has a ton of trunk space. The entertainment system mostly works all the time, but there's a few glitches with the OS sometimes and the volume button is annoying, but easy to get used to.

An Upgrade From The Previous Production Run

Isn't it amazing how many people describe whatever brand new vehicle they've just purchased as "An Amazing car", or "Greatest Car Ever!", or some such other hyperbole? The age and mindset of those placing such posts immediately springs to mind. In reality, beyond the "Bestest Greatestest Most Humongously Stupendestist Car Ever" reactions, the new Civic remains tethered to it's econo-box origins. I test drove the LX. The styling is overall a forward step up from its previous 'grandma' conservative look, but the designers went too far in many respects. The back end looks like they were going for super-sporty, but didn't really know how it's done, so they went way overboard with an excessive - and from some angles - ludicrous design. Inside, the car is much nicer than the Corolla, although it's still far short of the plusher refinement of the Chevy Cruze. When driving, you still have a sense of sparseness along with that unmistakably econo-box feeling of an empty, light-weight tin can. Tapping the interior roof confirms the impression of rather cheap hollowness. The Civic had adequate acceleration, but no feeling at all of power on demand. Just drive an Accord for comparison and you feel the difference immediately. However, it has better power than the Corolla. The ride is somewhat jittery. Rear visibility is poor due to the narrow and radically tilted slot of a rear window. If you choose the Civic, you'll have to live with a CVT - not something I'd want to do; but it seems that many people hardly notice ["bestest car ever!!!"]. I'd say that Honda's CVT's are as good as Toyota's, and much better than the droning, straining designs that Suburu makes. Overall, the new Civic may be a good choice for a first time car buyer, or as a second car if you already own a better one. For me, the nail in the coffin is that every trim above the base LX model comes with a moonroof. You get one, whether you want it or not. Will it leak? Maybe it will, maybe it won't. You'll just have to find out - and when, several years down the road - that Civic that you bought for its "unsurpassed" reliability starts dripping water on your head and filling the cabin with rapidly growing, fragrant mold, you'll be scratching that very same [now moist] head that had led you to make the purchase. As for Honda - nice demonstration of corporate wisdom.

Eco boost needs recall

Nhsta refuses to recall the Eco boost feature on this car. The eco boost makes this car a death trap. It failed five times in a 6 month period..whereas I was almost killed while either in a uturn or simply pulling into a place. The eco boost has what is known as a "dead spot" in a middle of a uturn you push the gas pedal and it just has dead spot where the engine chokes..or either you are changing lanes on the expressway. Honda and nhsta are both ignoring the problem. Also if you are rear ended the seats are so hard it feels like a piece of plywood hitting you in the back. Such a nice car to have such horrible hard seats...and the death by eco boost. Ford recalled their eco boost...Honda will not. I just wonder how many drivers have been killed by the Eco boost?

I LOVE my Civic! I had been wanting one for at least 10 years. Instead, I bought a Jetta. My Jetta was great but super duper expensive on repairs. I researched and researched what I was looking for in a Civic and I got it. The one caution I would tell anyone; when I first got the car, I had downloaded iOS 10 beta. It and Apple Car Play didn't talk well. So I had to reset my phone - I hated the software anyway - and basically reset my car computers. Everything has been great since!

People must be small in Japan. U don't get in it. U get down into it. They even put a handle above the passenger doorway so people can pull them selves out. haven't had it long enough to talk about mileage. Getting in and out still uncomfortable..(March2020). But once inside, the car is comfortable. Car has earned my respect by being reliable, so I don't have to think about it. Honda's roadside service isucks. If you are stranded they will only tow U to one of their dealers.

Less than expected from ratings and hype

Sue Glassman, 04/27/2016

I wanted the Civic due to it's reliability and gas mileage ratings and hassle free maintenance. First, the tire pressure light was on from the second day I had the car. I called Honda and ended up checking the tire pressure myself which was fine and then pressing the reset button several times until the light went off. No one mentioned this issue at the dealership or that there is a special reset button for this purpose. Second, according to the Civic's own gas mileage indicator on the dash board, I am getting less than 24 mpg. Third, when you connect the blue tooth, the phone is connected but not the media (ex waze). Fourth, there is no cd player (only radio). Fifth, the storage compartments in the car are minimal and do not have closures like the kia forte. There are a total of 3 easily accessible cup holders that double as the storage console. The back seats do not come down for extra trunk storage if you need it. You have to play with the buttons and dials to get the a/c to work properly so you don't die of heat stroke before it kicks in. Overall, I guess as long as this car lasts without any big bills until I turn it in, will have to be happy.

Shop around long distance in order to negotiate with your local dealer. I hade lease price differences of $50/month, comparing apples to apples. I live in Virginia, and Koons Honda was the most forthright dealer here and Herb Chambers and Weymouth Honda in Massachusetts. The local dealer, Pohanka, wasn't even in the ball park, until I leveraged the other prices. Koons and Chambers were very nice and in hindsight, I regret not having purchased the car from Sunny at Koons in Manassas. This company followed up with a personal conversation from the General Manager, interested in finding out why I didn't use them. The dealer I bought the car from, Pohanka, didn't even come over and say thanks, didn't show us the controls or review the car and let me go with an empty tank of gas...
