I love this car!!!! Everything about it is truly amazing! The k20z3 engine is a true gem. The car feels pedestrian below 5,800 RPM; however, rev it past 5,800 all the way to it's 8,000 RPM redline and and you will be treated to aural ecstasy courtesy of Honda's infamous vtec technology. When i-vtec engages the car sounds like a high revving v8, pulling hard all the way to the redline. The i-vtec helps deliver top notch performance (for an N/A four cylinder) while maintaining great gas mileage and drive ability. The high revving k20 engine is pared with an unbelievably smooth short throw six speed manual gearbox. The combination of the engine and perfect shifter make this car a pleasure to drive. However, the car's practicality set it apart from other sporty car options. The seats are comfortable and will hold you snug, the air conditioner is ice cold, and the additional two doors really make life easier. Interior materials are of excellent quality and the faux suede seats with red Si stitching look great. The red gauge lighting and aluminum pedals are superb touches. Other great features include an auxillary and usb port. The car is also well equipped in the storage department. Now, the car does have its issues and those issues are why I didn't give it a perfect rating. For one, the tranny is complete garbage, which is a shame considering how smooth it shifts. My second and third gears grind on a weekly basis. They are fine under normal driving conditions; however, under spirited driving they tend to grind. My second gear loves to grind when I accelerate to the redline in first gear. This has caused me to bang off of the rev-limiter on multiple occasions in an attempt to shift into second. My second gripe with this car is the paint. Like wtf Honda? My car is a 2009! There is absolutely no excuse for fading paint on a six year old car! What makes it worse is that this problem isn't unique to the Si either. My brother's red 2009 Honda Fit is starting to turn pink :(. My last issue with this car is a performance issue. I used to own a 2000 Honda Prelude prior to buying my Si. The Prelude was miles ahead of the Si in terms of handling. The Prelude was more well balanced and neutral when attacking corners. The Si? Well, the Si feels like a wet sponge in the corners. The car's body roll and understeering tenancies are pretty noticeable and are downright scary at times.

Thrilled every time I'm behind the wheel of my redline orange si. Nowadays, I look for every opportunity to run errands. Not only is driving a manual again after a decade's hiatus great fun, but doing so in this pocket rocket is even more exhilarating. Still under the 600 mile break in period, so I rarely take the rpm above 6000 rpm, yet still, this machine shows tremendous spunk off the starting block. Was close to getting a Civic EX coupe but am so relieved I followed my heart (instead of pocket- book) to settle for this Si coupe. For three grand more, I know I got a car that stirs excitement and delivers both reliability and fun.

Civic si sedan

I considered gti and civic si. Picked si thinking it would be more reliable. I was wrong. Many things have gone wrong and Honda will not fix unless you have deep pockets. Door handles stop working, trunk will stop working, and now 2nd gear is making noises and Honda wants 700 dollars just to open it up and diagnose. I bought this car to avoid this problem and here I am with the warrantee over, and transmission issues with 2.5 years left of payments. I'm stuck with it now, bought it for performance and excitement but now it's a point a to b car that I have to skip 2nd gear. It was fun and good until this. Get a warrantee or buy another car, I have 95,000 miles on it, and I drive good.

The best-handing Civic Si of all time

Ah... the 8th gen Civic Si. Look, I'm not going to bother going on a long-winded rant about how good Honda Civics are in general. If you're reading this, you already know all that stuff (the good and the bad). What you want to know is what makes the 8th gen Civic Si special. Well, Honda made the 8th gen Civic with the FD2 (Japanese Civic Type R) in mind. This isn't an econocar that was sooped-up to be fast. This was a lethal track-carving machine that was de-rated for us mere mortals. The car is stable in all conditions. Low speed. High speed. Very high speed (yes, these will pull all the way up to 134mph). Cornering. Straightaway. The engine torque curve is unbelievably flat, and the torque steer is minimal because of it. Turn off traction control so the inside-front wheel can spin slightly, and you've got yourself some mechanical torque vectoring. The sound of the K20Z3 as it climbs through the low revs.. the mechanical bark as the cams change over.. and the angry shout as it climbs to an aural apex of 8300rpm... modern turbo engines can't hold a candle to it. You really have to be on top of the heel-toe in these, but if you're doing it right, nothing is quite as fulfilling as driving an 8th gen Civic Si on the limit. If you're looking for a car that makes any otherwise-boring car trip exciting, this is the car for you. If you're looking for a fun track car, this is the car for you. If you're looking for quiet/easy-to-drive-fast/50mpg, this is not the car for you. Aside: Like any highly-tuned sports car, if you saddle it with eco tires or keep running that worn suspension 60k miles past when it was ready to be replaced or fail to do the maintenance, the car will go to shit, and it will not be fun to drive. Of course, unlike certain manufacturers (ah-hem...VW...cough), the bolts are all metric hex bolts, there are easy-to-access lift points for work at home if that's your thing, and parts are readily available.

This thing is a blast. Engine is powerful, don't be deceived by the numbers. It'll drive very comfortably for the everyday driver, but push the pedal the slightest bit and you're off. Handles like a foreign sports car. Engine has an awesome note to it as well. I just got this as my first car, and every single day I look forward to getting in that car, I love it. Couldn't ask for anything better. Great on gas too. We got it used with about 51k miles on it. Runs, looks and smells like new. Overall an outstanding car, and a thrill to drive. Even comes standard with premium audio system which includes subwoofer. Has enough power to rattle the rear view mirrors, with a motor that's smooth as silk

Still the best transmission

Got the dark gray color which meshes quite nicely with the Si wheels. The audio hookups are astounding - CD, XM, pc card, FM, AM, iPod, and USB key. The navigation graphics are dated (same or similar to those which debuted in 2006), but the system is integrated quite well and the information presented is all helpful. I have yet to get a single voice command to work, even after reading the manual. The engine is quite free revving and the transmission and clutch combo is sublime. It is not a particularly fast car, but the best version of a proven car with a fantastic stick.

Honda makes one of the best stick shifts in the auto business with the Civic Si. Short throws and creamy smooth shifts. Performance is great for a 4 cylinder (2 liter) engine without a turbo. It's a rev happy car which performs best at 6,000+ rpm's, and the engine sound is sweet at higher revs. My car is black which is hard to keep clean but looks great when it has a bath. It's a head turner. Gave it a 9 on reliability but that's just based on Honda's past reputation cause I've only had it a week with 400 miles driven so far. I leased it for 3 years so it's covered by limited warranty. If it proves reliable I will purchase another 3 year lease.

Bought this car a few months ago and love it. Sporty, looks good, comfortable, solid, and performs well for this class. Not the fastest per se, but balanced in all areas. Opted out of the summer tires because of snow, and it still handles great. Have owned Hondas for 21 years now and I don't regret this purchase at all. 2 tier dash works really well, stereo is decent and USB system rocks. Combination of size, handling, efficiency. The ride is firm, but not harsh, I don't understand all of the complaints about road noise. It is competitive with others in the class. I still love the high revving nature of Hondas, over brute power.

Thank you, taxpayers; my old Mercury Villager is no more! Being a college student, I needed a more reliable form of transportation, and that's exactly what I got. I looked at a few competitors as well as the Accord, but the Civic fit what I needed best. The Si badging added a little something something to the personal enjoyment factor. So far, I love my Civic. It has been impeccable in both build quality, initial reliability, and ownership satisfaction. Having never driven manual before and it being a new car, I was expecting some low MPGs on the first tanks. However, in my 2500 miles of driving, my lowest tank has been 28 and my best slightly above 33. Keep this car on your short list!

I traded in my S2000 for this car. I know its slower but can't tell from driving it. This car feels faster than it is. Its as much fun to drive as the S2000 was. I considered other cars but owned many Hondas in the past and haven't been disappointed by my decision to take this over WRX and MS3. I commute 82 miles round trip each day and enjoy every minute of it.

Had the car for over two years now. Feels alot faster than it is. I love the high revving 4. Traded an S2000 for this because of family expansion. Haven't regretted yet. Would prefer a little more power but am satisfied. I commute 82 miles round trip to work and get 28-33 mpg depending on how hard I drive it, usually 29 mpg in mixed driving. 33 mpg on long trips consistently. Great car.

Great overall car. Has enough power to have some fun with yet still maintain its reliability and great gas mileage. No problems as of yet but still breaking the car in. Get comments from enthusiasts all the time about how clean it looks. This car serves and supports the reason why it was built. I love the interior but some may wish to have a different color as it is quite hard to keep clean.

I had always lusted after the Civic Si back when the 2000's were new. Once Honda went back to the hatch-style I moved on to other cars since it didn't fit my life. As soon as the new "Si Sedan" came out I knew what my next car would be. I purchased my 09' in June and have loved every second of it. This has got to be one of the funnest daily drivers out there, despite requiring premium gas I am still getting upwards of 26+MPG with very aggressive driving. The seats are a magnet for cat hair so I am going to need to upgrade these to leather soon :-) I have also (Eibach) dropped my car about 1.4" in front and back and the handling is much improved.

This car is real quick from 60-90. Has some road noise, but the 350 watt sound system can correct for it. This car is a real show stopper for $22K, with at 7 sec 0-60. A must test drive if you are looking at the IS 250-350 (smaller interior) or the Acura TL. The resale value makes the Si a real choice over the Subaru WRT which costs almost twice the price.

The 2009 Honda Civic Si Coupe is a real bargain for an under $25,000 car. I never tire from driving it. The seats are pleasing to look at; however, I sometimes have a difficult time finding a comfortable seating position. Below 5,800 rpms there is not much power. I usually reach i-VTEC in first and second gear, but that is usually it unless I want to obtain a speeding ticket. On the streets I have only been able to redline the car in first gear because it already brings me to 55 mph. Honda should increase the power, so it can be accessible earlier. The transmission is smooth, and I am able to shift the gears effortlessly although fifth and sixth gears are mostly useless.

Love my car. It does have some issues, however. Unfortunately the real power is mostly limited to the v-tech 6000- 8000rpm range, which goes by very quickly. Steering wheel feels cheap, small, light. Feedback through steering wheel is subpar, brakes need tuning when used on uneven surfaces, handling is subpar on uneven surfaces and sudden changes in direction at high speeds - it feels as if the car is swaying in corners. Lint/dirt sticks to suede seats, but they are comfortable. Excellent gearbox, stereo system. Plastic on doors, center console is not put together well - feels cheap. Gas mileage is not too great considering the high octane fuel that is required and the low power(0-60 is slow).

I have owned 2 civics (2001 LX and 2005 SI hatchback) prior to this one. There is a reason why I purchased another new SI. Amazing comfort, style, and power all in this sporty package. If you are even debating getting an SI like myself, do yourself a favor and buy it. On my first tank of gas I got 33 MPG of 50/50 highway/city driving(ratings are 21/29 on the sticker). If you are looking for a car that turns heads then this is the one for you. So far my wife and I have put 1500 miles on it and have loved every minute of driving it. I strongly suggest you get a test drive at your local dealer so you can see for yourself why Honda's slogan is "Above all else."

This is my third Honda, and all have been amazingly reliable. Not all of them have been fun to drive, however. My new Si takes the fun level off the scale compared to most other Hondas. Are there faster cars? Yes. Are there better handling cars? Yes. Can you get any of these other cars for under $19,200? No chance. The closest car that I found would have been almost $6000 more than the Civic. It's an amazing car for the money. Be careful when reading other reviews, as most of the people driving the Civic Si are younger drivers. The one reviewer complaining about a vibration in the brakes is describing the activation of the ABS system. Without it he would have been in a skid.

This car is so fun to drive, it is amazing. To purchase a car with the performance, quality, below $20,000, is a steal. It has all the options except navigation, which I chose not to purchase. This car actually thinks for you. When driving, this car can scream down the road if you want it, with a redline of 8000 rpm, it flies. The handling is incredible, you almost feel like you are in a Indy car. If you are looking for a great small car, you must test drive the SI coupe.

I've had several Accords, so I know how reliable Hondas are. I have had my Si for a year now, and it's the S2000 I didn't buy for reasons of practicality. I was 60 when I bought this sports car with a trunk and a (roomy) back seat. I love the styling, the performance, and most of all... the seats! These are the best seats I have ever had in any car; great back support, and with the red stitching and Si logo, they look way cool. I average about 25 miles per gallon in mixed driving (best was 28), not bad considering its hard to resist putting your foot down to experience the i-VTEC rush that kicks in at 6k rpm. I wish it was quieter, though. Engine noise is cool, but lots of road noise, too.

The Civic Si is a terrific car if you like the sound of a boomy exhaust, sharp handling, a high revving engine, and straight line quickness "on-tap." The dual personality of this vehicle is what sets it apart from other vehicles in its class (Mazda 3 speed, GTI, Mini S etc..). If you want a high mileage economy car, you can simply shift sooner (go slower) and get very good mileage (I get 24-25 in city). If you want to have some fun, just slam the gas and let the car rev. Once you hit 5000 rpm you start to grin (it's unavoidable). Either way, this car is a lot of fun. On the other hand, if you like a soft, smooth and quiet auto, the SI is not for you.

I've had my Si sedan for only a week, but I can tell you that this a special car. The suspension is both compliant and firm, brakes are excellent, steering is quick and precise, clutch and drive-train are easy and smooth in stop and go traffic or in spirited driving. Mid-RPM range power delivery is good and it keeps getting better as you pass 5000 rpm. The engine is marvelous.

Have the car for 7 months, for the price no other car company can match it for performance, styling, fun meter level. The Civic-EX isn't even close in matching the Si's performance... no auto tranny may be the reason for not getting Si for many buyers. About 6.6 seconds to 60 mph with a 4 cyl. engine (no turbo), and only 197 hp, 139 ft.lbs of torque! I'm getting about 25 mpg overall with about 60% city driving. You have to rev this car above 6k rpm to find its "sweet" spot. If you want less 4.0 sec to 60 mph, then buy a Vette for $80+K! One car magazine rates it #17 for the most fun to drive for ALL cars on the road (including BMW, Audi, etc.) that are priced 2x+ the Si's sticker.

I went to the dealership to talk them out of their last S2000, however, they were still very proud of it, although it was a brand new 2008 model, and I was trying to purchase it in June 2009. I test drove many vehicles. I had previously owned an RX8 and had already wanted a NA high rev. engine. After I test drove the SI I was sold. Fun to drive, affordable, cheap insurance, great build quality. The car has a great platform to add aftermarket parts at a reasonable price. Maintenance is so much more reasonable than the RX8. Granted, the RX8 is unique and handles like a dream. The Honda is just a great value for the price!

Five people can be worked out and 4 can be comfortable in the race-inspired seats. The seats go with the sweet interior, great sound system, almost heads up display, and all the buttons on the steering wheel. But it's also a race car! Stiffened suspension on the 17's and a 200hp engine work well to make a very fun practical car that's great for everyday!

I bought my Civic Si and 2 weeks later took it on a 3,000 mile journey. My gas mileage was low 30's and the seats were comfortable. I am very satisfied with my purchase and use it as my everyday ride.

I just traded mi EX for this Si. I have to say that is a very impressive car. You get a sedan and a sporty car at the same time. well balanced, great fun, great sound system. If anyone asks me one thing to change, i would change: Some features in the outside more than the Si badge or the spoiler. Maybe change the tail-lights or the thunk..i don't know, i just don't like the fact that sometimes people thinks my car is an EX and i just added a spoiler and bought a set of Si rims. I just love the way it feels and looks. I made a great purchase.

Overall I love my Civic Si but I want to write an objective review. My Si is comfortable, reliable and built with quality materials inside. It's fun to drive, however I've gotten used to the 197 hp and weak 139 lb ft torque; torque should be improved in the future. MPG varies depending on driver, I get between 17-21 mpg city. The paint is not the best. It will scratch quickly and rock chips cause more damage than it should. I spend too much time and $ trying to care for the paint/exterior. I'm not bothered by the two-tier dashboard. A noticeable problem with Honda's is road noise. Exterior design is getting old, needs to be overhauled IMO.

Best performance car for the $$$

I've had my Civic Si now for almost a year and can say that it is the best car for the $$$ that I've ever purchased. I've owned many sporty cars before, too. The reviews that I've read that were negative were from people that probably shouldn't have bought this car to start with. The car is made for DRIVING, not commuting to and from work. The regular Civic is what they should've bought. You get WAY more than what Mazda, VW or Subaru can offer for the $21,000 that I paid for this car even with the navi. I drive long distances for work and average 33 mpg on those highway trips and get about 25 in the city. I would definitely recommend this car to just about everyone.

I drive about 33,000 miles per year, mostly highway. This is one of a very few cars that can do commuting and playing at the same time and do them well. For commuting, it's comfortable, reliable and economical(I average 31 MPG, 2 MPG better then EPA estimates). When you want to play, just rev the crap out of it and it rewards you, handling is solid, power is great (above 6000 RPM), and engine notes are extraordinary. All it needs is more torque, if Honda put in the Japan only "R" engine, this thing would be nirvana on wheels. If you do a lot of commuting, yet enjoy a spirited drive, this is one of the best buys out there.

This car is the most fun you are ever going to have in a small coupe -- and it's stick only so you really have to drive it -- no easy peasy automatic transmission for real drivers. 200 hp in a light weight small car means your power to weight ratio is obscene. And when you floor the throttle in mid gear it takes off like a rocket, but sticks to the road like glue in the corners. Now if they would just make a convertible.

Best Value For An Economy Car

Build quality and performance for the money is tops. A fun car to drive, a driver's car. Love the 6 speed manual. Gas mileage is tops for a performance a car. Honda should include the following items: glove box light, window switch lights for passenger side and rear side windows (4-doors). Only driver's window switch is lighted. Would like fog lights on without having headlights on, would like to have switch to turn off day time driving lights. Dual exhaust would look cool.

I'm a long time manual transmission driver and after an extensive search thought I'd found the perfect car. This car had the style and comfort unmatched in it's price and class. However, after two weeks of driving this vehicle the transmission started to get very notchy in second gear especially when cold. Once winter hit the problem became noticeably worse to the point that it actually jumped out of second gear on several occasions. By mid-winter I didn't want to drive this car anymore. I took it to the dealer but they could not duplicate the issue when the engine/trans was warm and they checked and flushed the trans fluid. I traded this car after 4 months and couldn't be happier.
