I have had the car for about 2.5 years. I have not had one mechanical problem with the car witht the exception of the check engine light. My gas mileage is horrible and the resale value is disappointing. I bought the car knowing that I would put a lot of miles on it and I figured its a honda it will hold its value. NO it doesn't my care is worth about 7500.00 that is rediculous considering other cars are going for higher in the same year and style of this. I would buy a honda again just b/c they are awesome cars and run forever. Just not a Si.

I was happy to have the Si back after a 7 year absence. Bought it almost sight unseen. Great performance. No shimmy in high winds and lots of power. No place to put anything, though. No coin box, no ashtray, power outlet doesn't take lighter. Seats cause acute bun-ache after long trips.

Some good, some bad

In the 13,000 miles that I have owned this car, it used an average of 1 quart of oil every 600 miles. In addition to the oil issue, there is an annoying clacking noise in the A- Pillar that Honda says is the moonroof drain tube hitting metal, but after 28 visits to the dealership to fix this and other issues, it remains. The emergency brake does not hold on hills and needs to be adjusted every 1000 miles. I have seen these same issues from others, so beware of them and ask about these issues if you are looking to buy one. I had great hopes for this car, my first new car purchase, and have been pretty dissapointed. It looks great on paper...

Absolute Junk

2002 Honda Civic Si 2dr Hatchback w/Side Airbags (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

My experience with a 2002 Honda Civic Si has been an absolute nightmare. If anything, I hope this message will save someone from buying and owning one of these cars outside a full coverage, bumper-to-bumper warranty. Here are my experiences and things that will happen to you: 1) What others won’t tell you is that Honda uses soft metal for bolts (2002, other years? You be the judge) that are undersized, not coated against corrosion sufficiently and leads to bolts snapping or rounding off and timely and costly repairs by extension. Often, torque specified bolts also have shallow bolt head depth making removal a crapshoot. Also, it’s not if but when, the ignition will fail. Instead of being able to just buy a replacement cylinder you have to buy a whole assembly, plus have dealer programmed keys because of a transponder in the key. A $1600 repair just to be able to start your car easily - versus working the key and moving the steering wheel to get it to start. Your welcome and stay away from Hondas that are beyond or not subject of a warranty.
