Well Balanced
Balanced between sufficient power (190hp) and fuel economy, between cabin space and sportiness, and excellent suspension tuning. The torque may seem delayed, but the power is there when the Vtech kicks in. The engine noise is noticeable, but it sounds nice. It's not straining to move the car. It's a lot of car for the money. Maybe not the best at anything, but really good at everything. It's a big car, make no mistake about it. Coming out of a Civic it's huge. But I wanted a big car. Maybe not "fun" to drive, but very easy to drive.
Seats Are Fine!
This is my 6th Honda that I've purchased new and so far this is my favorite car. I purchased the Accord EX to replace a lease return Acura RSX Type-S. The build quality is excellent and the mileage is exactly what was advertised. I was a little concerned about the seat comfort based on some of the reviews left on Edmunds.com. I can honestly say the seats are far more comfortable than any of my previous Honda's (2 Accords, 2 Civics and a CRX) and also more comfortable than my Acura RSX.

Got what I paid for!
Yes, there is some road noise, however the suspension is firm to enhance the handling which is sporty. I actually like the firm ride and road feel which offers strong cornering and good tracking. I paid $23,300.00 for EX-L version with the 4 cylinder and I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The interior is very roomy and offers good comfort. The Accord has a unique design that offers a sporty European look. I decided to go with the 4 cylinder for the fuel economy and sufficient 190 HP on a FWD. I compared to BMW 3 series and Lexus compact and decided to keep the $7,000 difference in my pocket. You can get more car but you'll have to pay extra for it!
Well Built Vehicle
I have owned many cars in my 25 years of driving, (i.e Nissan Maxima, Infiniti G35, Ford Mustang, Nissan Sentra). I never imagined owning a Honda after Nissan vehicles for the last 15 years. The Accord meets my expectations in styling, performance and workmanship. I don't understand why so many people are complaining about road noise and lack of comfort. The Accord does have a firm ride which adds to good handling. I don't like mushy ride and a loose steering wheel. I find that the Accord handles better than the 3 Maximas that I owned. The interior is very roomy and well made (no squeaks and rattles that I had with Nissan). I have not had one problem in the first 90 days of ownership.
Overall Value
I have had my Accord for almost 2 months now, with about 3500 miles on it. Overall, this is a well designed and well built vehicle. The V-6 is smooth and powerful when needed. The Accord is an excellent mating of power, comfort, handling and solid road feel. It does everything well for a family sedan. I really like the interior and while it suffers from too many buttons, the layout is intuitive. I am a bit disappointed by the poor sound insulation and the stereo is mediocre, the heated seats don't really work that well.
Uncomfortable Seats, Road noise
Just bought the car. Owned a lot of cars and I must say this is the most uncomfortable seats in any car I have owned. It hurts the lower part of your back after a half hour. It's like a hard lumbar that doesn't go away. Called Honda America, and they said that they will document it. If you own one and experience this problem call them. More complaints the better hopefully! Road noise is pretty loud.
Major Brake Issues
My fiance and I purchased an '09 EX 4 Cyl. without navigation in Sept. 2008. The car rides great and is fun to drive. The gas mileage is terrific. Honda has refused to address a major brake issue as of yet. We have already had to spend nearly $200 for new rear brake pads in 16 months. Brake pads should not wear out that quickly. Honda has had many complaints and the web is filled with comments on the issue. Let's hope Honda does the right thing.
Dis. Like.
This is my fourth Honda, and the first one I dislike. It's overly large, poorly built, and does not live up to Honda's legendary reliability and build quality. The exterior is not unpleasant to look at, and with the EX V6, the sunroof, chrome trim, and rims don't detract. However, the interior is way too heavy on plasticy bits, the carpet feels cheap, and things rattle like a 1990s GM product. Too many buttons, etc. Performance-wise, the auto transmission is atrocious. I've taken to manually shifting it when I need to get into 1st in a hurry. The gas mileage is awful (17 on a 70/30 city highway split, maybe 25 on the highway). However, the engine is smooth and powerful.
Where's the MPG?
My second Accord. The reliability and resale value are unbeatable. The ride is firm, but it has a sporty feel to it. The seats are quite comfortable. I love the sound system that adjusts it's volume to the speed of the car. The center of the dash is very cluttered. Driven the car 5000+ miles and still have to take my eyes off the road just to tune the radio. Too many buttons. The MPG is a major disappointment. Bought the 4 cylinder hoping for the advertised 30 MPG. Not even close. 26 is the best I've ever achieved; after 2 straight hours of interstate driving. Usually 22-24, with a low of 21 MPG. Sad for a 4 cylinder.
2009 Honda EXL - 4cyl - 190HP
This is the first car in 30 years for my wife as we have always had vans and suv's. The 4 cyl - 190 HP is very responsive and the first 337 miles we got 27.7 mpg with 65/35 hwy/local driving. No doubt that this car will get 30+ cruising at 65 on the hwy. The steering is very responsive and the leather seats are supportive and comfortable, no problems with the headrests. Lots of std features. Great deals now on the 2009's. Our dealer bought outright our 2007 Honda Pilot EXL with 13 months on the lease and we got the Accord with no money down and very low lease payments.
Very happy so far
Have my Honda for 8 months with no problem. Glad I made this choice. The car is somewhat big, so parking may be an issue. The only other thing is road noise. Otherwise - comfort, quality, MPG, appearance are superior. Get used to VSM, which did not like in the beginning.
Happy Accord Owner
Use the car to commute 70 miles a day & freeway trips. Comfortable and fun to drive on trips and around town. Far better car than the Malibu it replaced. Have gotten up to 29 mpg. But usually get 26 during the commute. The car is big enough to fit three adults in the back seat.
Great Car
Had a 2005 Honda Accord exl w/ navi and loved it. Never had one problem. Bought this one in Apr of 09. Was hoping that the economy of running 3 cyl when 6 not needed would help the mileage (it didn't) over the 05 model. drove the 05 from midwest to west coast 4 times and averaged 30 mpg over 1500 mile trip each time. Just arrived in Nv. this year and we averaged 28 mpg. Other than disappointment with the mileage I love the car. I feel this car has better drivers seat comfort than the 05. I usually drive 850 miles first day on way to the west, and did have back problem with the 05. NONE with the 09.
Best Choice on the Market
I had always thought of Accords as boring sedans, after over a month of test driving at least 15 cars it was clearly the best choice. I looked at all competing mid-size sedans along with a few luxury mid-size sedans, there was no comparison. The Accord is as nice as the 3 series BMW but the quality and reliability blows it out of the water. The Camry was just ok, but I personally prefer the sporty tight driving Accord.
No Rear Brakes
Good handling - solid performance - everything that you would expect from a Honda - my two sons are over 6 feet tall and there is plenty of leg room in the rear. And of course great gas mileage - however, watch out for the rear brakes on this car - I just had the car in for a 15,000 mile service and only had 5% left on the rear brakes - the mechanic told me the brake pad is a 1 inch by 1 inch pad that wears out every 12k-15k miles - Honda claims they are aware of the problem but no recall or service warranty issued by Honda yet? That is why I got rid of my Suburban - undersized brakes for the car - now it seems I have the same problem with a Honda??? Unheard of.
Best Car
We now have had the car for 6 months and have driven it over 8000 miles and still find it to be the best car I have owned. We have not had any issues with seat comfort or brakes. The car is used for mostly short driving in town but still delivers a 23-24 mpg. We drove it to Chicago Il and back in Sept. a trip of over 600 miles each way and got 34 mpg. At no time did I find the seats uncomfortable (9hr trip). The road noise does change with pavement type, concrete being the noisiest.
Accord Gets Better
The Ride is perfectly balanced not too firm and not too bouncy. The accord is between altima/6 and Camry/Sonata it terms of ride quality. 4 Cylinder pick up is more than adequate in this class. The Paint job is better than domestic cars. Does everything well. The seat is not too firm or rough.
I love my Accord!
I love my new Accord, the seats are very comfortable, especially the back seats. There is plenty of leg room in the back seat as well. It's fun to drive and handles well. The only somewhat negative comment I have is that road noise is a little loud but nothing that's unbearable. The stereo is great, the Navigation system is awesome and it has a great ride. I am very happy with my purchase.
Bad Brakes
I loved my Accord until at about 250 miles the brakes began to squeal. I took the car in and the dealer said there is nothing wrong. It is now at about a year later the brakes still squeal and the dealer is telling me I need new brakes. The stability control system causes extreme brake wear is what the dealer is telling me. Honda refuses to do anything about this. I am a long time Honda driver but I will not buy another, my last Accord lasted 45K miles before new rear brakes were needed. Nice car, bad brakes bad VSC system.
Fun to Drive
Generally the car has been great except for excessive dust that comes into the passenger cabin. I have an 03 lx which is great even after 150k still like new inside. Find excessive road noise for a top of the line model. Better sound proofing would reduce fatigue.
Great upgrade from Civic
Just purchased the 2009 Honda Accord EXL. What an upgrade from the 2006 Civic EX that I had. Being the 4th Honda I've owned I'm definitely a loyal Honda owner and the newest Accord reaffirms my loyalty. Great styling, handling and features for the price. I highly recommend any Honda, but especially the Accord.
Honda Accord EXL
This is our third Honda Accord. We had a 1993 LX and a 1999 EXL. This 2008 Honda is the best yet! The overall interior space is big enough for 4 passengers, and the EXL Leather Interior has the same build quality as our $55,000 Lexus. The 4 cylinder is peppy, and never seems under-powered. You could spend a lot more for a car; but why?
Excellent for the Money
I had a 2006 VW Passat and I loved it. 75000 miles in just 2 years... Commuting to work 165 every day. I looked for another Passat and WOW! The minimum sales tag was 28,000 bucks.. No way! Then I start to look into something more affordable and I found the new Accord. My wife has a Odyssey and we both love it. No problems at all, meaning none! So, I went for Honda blind bet and until now was a good decision, especially for the money. There is no car available for 21,000 with all those features. You want a better car? Prepare to spend more. Nissan Altima is a good competitor but no need to mention resale value. Happy but is not the Audi A4 I dream with.
Coming back to Honda
After 17 years, I am coming back to Honda. Had a 1983 Accord for 7 years and was superb. I think that the car is great, but road noise is very disturbing, considering the prestige and class of this car. Fuel economy is great, compared to the gas guzzler Kia Amanti V6 just traded in. Do not have the opportunity to hear the XM Radio, because the satellite signal can't reach Puerto Rico, but the outside antenna gives class to the car. At the beginning had problems with the seat, but got used to them.
Headrests Very Uncomfortable!
I'm having the hardest time with these seats. The leather is not soft at all, the seats don't warm up that much, but MOST OF ALL.....the headrests lean tooooo much forward!! I feel so uncomfortable riding in it. I had to pull them all the way up so I could sit back comfortable.
BAD CAR!!! BAD BRAKES!!!
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THAT I EVER PURCHASED THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE!!! I had brake issues after 5 months. The back brakes needed to be replaced, which is uncommon. Then I had more brake issues on the front two months after that. They dealership checked my brakes and told me that everything was ok, but they're replacing my driveshaft and axles which absolutely makes no since. I will never by another Honda!!!!
Great performance and value
After test driving a bunch of cars, including Acura TL, Lexus IS, C class Mercedes, Infiniti...it was an easy decision to settle on the Honda. Absolutely great value for the money, performance is superb, feels great, just like the Acura TL. Some reviews on this forum complain about road noise...I have not heard it at all. Also I read complaints about the seats...somewhat true but in my case I find it forces me to just sit up straight and have better posture. Overall, I love the car. My only wish is cosmetic: projector beam headlights and LED tail lights. I paid 27K and change for mine plus all the other dealer options, TT&L, etc etc. I do not regret my choice at all!
Don't Believe the Hype...
Disappointed. Let's start with the good: Attractive design, excellent build quality, almost german-car like. Great handling. Reliability is fine. Now the BAD: Very uncomfortable seats, and driving position. Driver area is very confined and like sitting in a hole. Will never find a satisfying or comfortable position. Car looks good standing alone, but appears small and dinky next to other cars, even compacts. Rear-end design is ugly. 2.4L engine feels slow. Can't pass or merge to save your life. Rough idol, raggedy engine sound. Gas mileage not impressive. Gets 535 miles per tank, where Camry, Malibu, Sonata, get 600 miles/tank. Accord falls short on many fronts.
Got rid of my Accord
I had my Accord for 13 months total, put over 20k miles on it. I could not stand the uncomfortable seats any longer. The headrests bothered me because they would push my head forward no matter which height they were at and the seats were rather hard and the lumbar support did not provide much satisfaction. Honda Customer Service told me that they cannot do anything for me at this time as the seats and headrest are designed to safety regulations and if they have a recall, they would let me know. Last week, I traded it in for a well equipped 2009 S80, which stickered for $42k and I bought it for $32k. The seats are much more comfortable and I no longer have back pain when driving.
Brakes?
This my second Honda Accord and so far I love the car but hate the brakes. After one day and 75 miles the steering wheel developed a very bad shudder when braking! I called the service manager and he said to drive the car at least 1000 miles before I bring it in? I am now at 950 miles with an appointment for next week. The steering wheel shudder is still present on moderate and above braking. I hope they can fix this!
2009 Honda Accord EX-L without Navi.
I have had my Accord for a few months now. I honestly don't know what everyone complains about. I drive pretty rough (college kid) and my MPG is always around 25. When I drive home it is nothing for me to get 30+ MPG. GREAT gas mileage on mine! There was a rattle in the sunroof, brakes squeal after a few months. Notified Honda, USA about it. Both suddenly stopped after a week. Backseat is very comfy, but driver seat can take its toll on me when driving home. VERY smooth ride, for those that care the exhaust is pretty good, leather is a good quality leather unlike Hyundai, the build quality is... wow amazing! I would def. buy another Honda (this is my first one). Paid $26,500.
Very Bad Brakes
Car delivered with a bad vibration in the brakes. dealer replaced front rotors at 1100 miles. Back in at 15000 miles vibration back, dealer turned rear rotors. Customer service has been great all handled under new car warranty. I will not have this car much longer as the brake problems are well documented in this car. How Honda maintains its reputation for reliability is beyond me.
Love my new Honda Accord!
I purchased my new 2009 Honda Accord LX in late December 2009 and couldn't be happier. Even the base model comes very well equipped. I was torn between the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord and once I drove each vehicle, the Accord won hands down. The interior of the Accord is very similar to the Acura and looks great. I have the 4 cylinder and am pleasantly surprised with the acceleration and handling. Thanks to my new Accord, I don't mind getting stuck in traffic anymore!
Back to Honda
I researched and drove multiple cars for months before deciding the V6 Navi was the best decision for the $. I wanted the coupe, but the back seat was a non-starter for adults. Awesome sound system! Mileage not what I expected from the VCM engine, and I drive with a light foot. Navi isn't intuitive yet, but I hope to be better with it after a couple months. The climate control system is exceptional. People I talk to through blue tooth say the sound quality is very good. Exceptionally fine handling and steering. After 4 Hondas and 3 Mercedes, I'm sold on Honda. Why pay twice as much for an unreliable Mercedes when you can have a car like this?
Driving Experience
This Honda Accord is a very nice automobile overall; however, I find there is above average road noise. The front beverage holders are not able to hold two small coffees since one of the holders is deep .
2009 Accord
We purchased two 2009 Accords, one for my wife and one for my daughter. Both are now having rear brake issues. Not sure why American Honda won't stand up and do the right thing like a recall. They waited until the American public filed suite.
Too much road noise
Had this car for 24 hours and I have buyers remorse due to horrible road noise coming into the car. It doesn't happen on every pavement but on most. The noise is just horrible. The pavement near the dealer is new and so the noise was not noticeable there. I don't recommend this car for the price.
Really Bad Brakes
I had major problems since I bought the car with real hot rear brakes and noise in the front brakes. I had to change rear pads at 14K and still no fix for my front brakes.
2009 ACCORD V6-NOT SO GREAT!
Ride quality stinks, a lot of wind noise v6 power not so powerful, interior designed its good, a lot of road noise if you are driving on the hwy. Honda not that reliable.
For what it's worth, it's a great car
After owning a VW Jetta for the past 5 years I looked at a number of cars in the same price range and found the ride quality, build, and features of the Honda Accord the best value for money that I could find. For a mid-sized sedan, the Accord feels larger than any other car I had looked at in its price range and has a high quality build finish comparable to BMW. For real world use, the car performs well on any road, with study handling. I like the look and feel of the interior, but like other reviewers have found that it is easy to scratch & the controls do take a little getting used to; especially if you've not driven a Honda rec. There is plenty of room and storage areas throughout.
Nice car, great mileage, couple issues
Bought a new Honda with 500 miles (semi demo). I love the car so far. We've owned a 2003 Accord since it was new, 98k miles, and only had to replace the AC compressor(recently). This 09 is great, here are a couple issues. The brakes squeak! My dad's 08 does as well. Honda says it's the #1 complaint with the car and Honda Engineering is working on a resolution. The glove box does not line up correctly when closed. The interior noise level is a little high, especially the noise from the trunk area coming into the cabin. Other than that, it's an excellent car, tight build, great mileage, nice looks.
Flawless after 10K
After driving my Accord for the last year I am really impressed. This car is roomy, fun to drive and has excellent feature content. This car is definitely a drivers car with fantastic steering and a really high end engine(no one builds a better engine than Honda). I am surprised at some of the low owner ratings here maybe I just got lucky, but either way this has been a really good car for my family.
2009 Honda Accord Failure
I recently purchased a 2009 Accord LX-P because of my pleasure with a 2003 Accord I own. I must say the driver's seat for a six footer is the most uncomfortable I have ever used. My back hurts after 15 minutes of driving the vehicle. I will try a seat cushion and hope it helps. I test drove the car before purchasing and did not notice the discomfort. But after driving it more I now notice. It feels like a lumbar support is engaged but the car does not have lumbar support.
Honda Accord V6 w/ Navi
I purchased an Accord V6w/nav; white with beige leather interior and paid $26,700. (This is our fifth Accord). Car rides well; the interior layout is attractive. Seats are comfortable and adjustable; steering column and wheel adjusts fine. The nav. system includes a trip computer that calculates mileage. Averaging 24 MPG combined city and highway. Highway mileage was 28 MPG. Power steering pump broke after 400 miles; dealer said that was extraordinary and replaced it under the warranty. (That explains my low build quality rating.) There is a lot to learn about the car concerning nav system, Bluetooth, voice commands etc. Too much is made about the road noise; the road noise is fine.
Net + Over Prior Models
This car has exceeded all my expectations and is an improvement over prior models. Car is larger than prior models and it feels it. Seats offer a firm comfortable ride. Leg rooms seems very adequate. Rear seating area is quite large. The display panel looks complicated at first but once I got familiar, it's been very functional. Visibility is quite improved over prior model. Hands free Bluetooth system is an extremely nice feature. I have lossed a couple MPG's but given the car's size the mileage is still very good. Adequate trunk space. Traction control makes the car very reliable to drive is slippery conditions. Road noise level is very disappointing.
Don't buy 2009 Honda Accord V6
Our 2009 Honda Accord V6 surges up and down hills. The Honda service department says this is NORMAL operation. If you are looking for a car with a nice ride, don't look at the 2009 Honda Accord V6.
Good Looks, Loud Inside
I traded my 2003 Camry. Went to get it back in 3 days but was sold. Accord drives like a sport car with lots of interior noise. You feel all small bumps in the road. The steering wheel does not have a comfortable spot for my large hands. Is fun to drive around town but lacks power when you step on it. When you let off the gas it is like you down shifted, the car slows itself. Weird!! The brakes squeak from the day I bought it. Stops good but the squeak is annoying.
Honda engineering not perfect
First, I own a 2009 Civic in addition to this car. Honda has a reputation of bullet-proof cars, but this particular model is lacking in several ways. 1st, the remote door control has been defective. Not just my model, its a common complaint and Honda has a SB about fixing it. 2nd, the rear brake design is horribly inefficient. The 08 and 09 models have a bad reputation of wearing out rear pads anywhere after 15k miles. In my case, they wore down to the metal at the 22k mark, but from internet reports most go out before this far. 3rd, this engine seems to consume oil at a faster than normal rate. Don't know why, but its a known problem for these models.
Bad Brakes
American Honda need to own up to the brakes issues they have. At least Toyota did the right thing and made it right. We are now in the process of trading in our 2009 Accord on a Toyota.
Servicable car if you like the Seat
I have a long commute every day to work (85 miles one way) and have spent a great deal of time in this car. After only approx. 11+ months of ownership I am thinking about selling this vehicle. The lumbar support/active head restraint systems have created a seat that becomes extremely uncomfortable after a nominal drive, to the point of back pain. The gas mileage has been better than advertised (I get 27-28 vs 25). The aux jack is not in a great location (center console). The car always feels heavy and loses momentum quickly. The steering is crisp and the cabin is spacious. Exterior won't win any beauty contests and the dash is not pretty but overall a workhorse type car.
