A disappointing purchase
I bought the 2009 as my 5th Honda accord, and couldn't be sorrier. My previous ones were excellent, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have to this model. After 40 min. the seat is so uncomfortable, I have to get out and give myself a break. It feels like concrete inside it. The road noise on trips is unbelievable. I really miss my 2003 accord and regret trading up to this model.
made a good choice
After months of looking found blk/blk 2009 accord coupe. Love it. I'm the type that researches and test drives lots of vehicles prior to purchase. This car fit my needs: comfortable, safe, stylish, affordable, and quality build. No car has everything otherwise we would all be driving "that" car. The EX is good value but I think the EX-L in the 4 cylinder might be the apex of the group in terms of performance/value/style. The V6 is fast and will appeal to the enthusiast, but in my mind it would only get me a speeding ticket. The 190HP 4 banger is good once you get it above 3500 rpm. Below that accel is nothing to rave about. Buy this car in the EX-L: V4 for value; V6 for kicks.

Would not buy again
After 18000 miles I had to have new back breaks put on. The leather is fading inside already - car is garage kept. Noise is really is ridiculous. Got 21k on it now and would trade it in if I could and get something else. Should have just saved my money and got the 4cylinder instead.
Dissapointing gas mileage
The 2009 Accord is our eighth Honda. I am very happy about the safety and reliability of these cars. This car has improvements on the 2006 model such as regular tires which gives a much smoother ride. They have included fog lights at no extra charge. However, the seats are very hard compared to the '06. Very disappointing gas mileage 17-19 mpg avg. Much worse than the '06 V6. Considering the new VCM technology it should be much better. It should not cut off the cylinders so often, it should be after you are cruising for a few minutes on the highway. And, you can feel it going back and forth.
Good car but with issues
Enjoyable car to drive overall BUT: Overkill driver side lumbar pushing on back. Auto shifts pretty jerky in lower gears. 4 cyl versions have flickering headlights whenever a/c used. BRAKES!!! I'm an EZ driver and well just google 2008, 2009 brake problems and you'll see for yourself.
Black Honda Coupe
What can I say, it's a Honda. This is my 7th Honda in 20 years. The unique thing about a Honda is when you get inside and close the door, you hear and feel a solid contact. This is true in all new cars. The unique aspect of a Honda is that it will still sound that way in 10-15 years later. They are just built solid.
THE best car ever...
I have had 6 Mercedes and 6 Hondas, this is the best of all. Firm, comfortable seating and great economy, 24.8 to 29.4 mpg during the 13,500 miles I have put on the car in 5 months. Cylinder deactivation is flawless. There have been no maint. or repair issues at all. A perfect car! Very spacious vehicle for pax and cargo. Memo to Honda... integrate grab handles into the A-pillars, use a manumatic trans, a fuel mileage readout would be nice in this class of car,a sixth gear or lower ratio for fifth gear for better highway mileage, and memory seats would be nice. This is a great and almost perfect vehicle. Buy and enjoy.
MY FIRST HONDA!!!!
I love my Honda accord V-6 with navi. It's a significant upgrade and my first. The acceleration and the power of the car is awesome. On the inside the navi among other features really makes long drives comfortable. Lastly, the gas mileage on the highway is pretty good too. I live in MD and went all the way to Boston on one tank! However, road noise is noticeable but easy to forget about and the driver's seat takes a while to get used to.
Great car so far
I have had this car for over a month and have 1500 miles on it. I have nothing but good things to say. At first I had to get used to the automatic transmission because of the Eco mode. You can feel the car downshift and at first it's uncomfortable because you're not used to it. Now I don't even notice it. This car is powerful and I have a lot of fun driving it. I actually look forward to my 30 mile commute each day. A lot of people complain about the seats. I think the leather is fine and have driven on a road trip (200 miles) with no problems. The car is beautiful inside and out and I get a lot of compliments on it. It really does look like a Lexus or BMW with all the chrome. I have black on black.
Power and Style for less $
Here is the breakdown: I've owned 6 Honda's (civic, preludes, accords). This car is more fun to drive than all those put together. I just traded in a '06 V6 Accord sedan 6 MT. Wanted something more sporty but dependable. Test drove a Lexus IS, Infiniti G37, and BMW 328i. All great in their own way. All at least 10K more than I paid for the Honda. Didn't make sense paying the extra change when the practical and fun choice was the Accord. Car has many extra features that are add-ons on the other cars. Car is black on black and it turns heads. Wasn't a big fan of the sedan design (little too big), but love the coupe. Before you buy any coupe in the 25-30K range, test drive this car!
Worst Car I've Ever Bought
6th car I've owned, 3rd Honda Accord. After the first day I realized how terrible the front seats are to sit in for more than 10 minutes. I think if you're less than 5'6" and 120 lbs, you'll be alright. The driving noise inside the car is excessively loud. The acceleration is OK for a car of this price, but the traction leaves a lot to be desired. Dear Honda, Look at the 2000 Accord and think, "Wow, we used to make a good car". Thanks, Former Customer
No problems here
I bought my '09 back in Aug of '08. So far I've driven 5400 miles. I've had no problems with it. Not once has it been in for any repairs. It does have road noise at cruising speeds. But, coming from a BMW I'm use to that. Would be nice if the seats have more cushion. Can get uncomfortable on long trips. I have no issues with the way it drives though. Good gas mileage for this size V6. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.
Coming Back to Honda II
After 7,000 miles, the car is performing good. Nevertheless, there are some poor quality issues related to details, such as loose door panels, seats springs noise, and paint scratches in the bumpers. Brakes squeak and road noises are very annoying. In the positive side, the fuel economy, engine performance, car design and Cd changer/radio sound are great. If I decide to buy another Accord would go for a thorough road test and read more carefully the car reviews. Overall, I have mixed feelings, because I had greater expectations for a car like this, but still think the Honda Accord is a great car.
A Nice Car to Own
I purchased this car because the transmission on my Intrepid died. I must say I am impressed. Overall, this is easily the most intelligently designed car I've ever owned. It irritated me that Detroit couldn't bother to put as much effort into their designs as Honda does. Took a while to get used to the transmission rhythm (went from 3 to 5 speeds). Fuel economy can be an issue. On the highway, I got a nice 30+ MPG, but in the city, barely 20. I have the lowest end model, and I am impressed with the amount of extras it came with, as well as the performance of the engine. Very peppy for a 4 cyl. All in all, I am very satisfied with this car.
Luv It
Test drove a 2009 Civic was not impressed. Originally purchased 08 CR-V which was totaled. Test drove the Accord and loved it. Smooth drive works well for me and my husband.
Honda engineers read this!!!
I LOVE my new car! I've put 5k miles on the Accord. Traction control prevents burning rubber, but whatever. What is fun is going from 40 to 80 in like 2 seconds. Don't worry about the "click" when shifting into DRIVE; they all do it. When snow gets in the wheels, they vibrate at > 50 mph. Windshield wash fluid only holds <1/2 gallon - and the pump is wussy. The driver's seat is not comfortable. I have some suggestions in the section below. Sound system rocks. Visibility is fantastic.
Good car, but...
Overall this car has been solid and reliable for the most part. My biggest complaint is the driver's seat. I did not notice this until I took the car on 1+ hour trips, the headrest design causes the headrest always to be in contact with your head, adjusting the height and seatback does not seem to help. Also, the seat does feel very hard on my back. I notice that I have been making more trips to the chiropractor than before. I had high hopes for this car, but based on how I feel from longer drives and how it is affecting my overall health, I honestly cannot wait to get rid of it. Honda customer care said the seat is designed according to safety regulations and they will not help.
GREAT regardless of the weather
I drive at least 25,000 miles per year, and this HONDA auto, with high performance all-season tires is GREAT regardless of the weather. This is very sporty and comfortable for me and my friends who ride with me all over the country, and driving up to 9,000 foot high mountain roads, this is still VERY NICE!
I miss my "03"
This is my 3rd Accord since 1997. Aesthetically the car is fabulous inside and out. Bigger, more luxurious and a little more power. I think the seats are very comfortable contrary to other reviews. Unfortunately, my brakes do squeal after 5K miles and a persistent vibration does emanate from the rear, interior deck. The transmission is weak, gas mileage is poor 19 mpg city/mixed where my "03" got around 22 to 24 with the same "spirited" driving style. Worst of all...I feel 40+ years old when I drive this thing whereas my "03" was much sportier, quicker and agile. Overall, a very good car but I probably should have bought the GT Mustang instead!
Uncomfortable Seats
The seats in my 2009 Accord are so incredibly uncomfortable that I can't continue to drive this vehicle. Even though I will lose money I will have to sell this vehicle. The Honda engineers really missed the mark in this regard. In the past I have owned a 1985 Accord, a 1990 Accord, a 1995 Civic, and a 1998 Accord the seats in these years and models were quite comfortable. Have been told by Honda of America that the Honda engineers decided to redesign the seats and I should have gone for a longer test drive. Needles to say this once faithful Honda customer will no longer be buying and driving Hondas.
Great Car
I have had this car for almost a year and it is fantastic. The brakes are very strong, the pickup is fast (definitely no need to buy the v6), the interior is nice, the leather is awesome, the sound system rocks, have had no mechanical problems...it is a great car. As many have pointed out, the engine is a little loud and so is the road noise. The fuel economy is about as expected, around 25. I would recommend it to anyone.
Excellent Car
I wanted to leave this review just let you know it's is very reliable and it is a best car to have. I got into a major accident 2 days ago. I was between 2 cars, I hit 1st car a little, but car behind me didn't hit the brakes and hit me and the 1st car again, but after all it happened Honda Accord was in the best shape of all 3 cars. The front of the car got barely damaged even though it was hit twice, of course the rear end was in bad shape. I have got very little injuries. After all it happened it stayed very stable and saved me.
4-cyl with a kick
Now that I have 3k miles on the car, I want to share my experience. I have a LX-S 4cyl model, in white. After the first month of ownership, I took the car for a weekend trip to central coast, CA (est. 600 miles). For a 4cyl, it has excellent acceleration (kinda reminded me of my 2002 Lexus IS, but not quite). It is very roomy and very stylist. The ride is a bit rougher than the Camry. The seats are a bit uncomfortable. Mechanic is good. Steering wheel does not vibrate like other 4cyl. Fuel to power ratio is excellent, maybe the best in its class. It would be much more fun to drive, if it had rear-wheel drive.
Camry out, Accord in!
Had Toyotas since 1981. Totally impressed with the style and quality of my 2009 Honda Accord EX-L. Best value for the money. Liked mine so much bought a 2009 Coupe EX-L for my daughter as well.
Ex 4dr is excellent value
I love this car to death. I drove an '88 pathfinder for 8 years and finally upgraded to this beautiful baby. I love everything about it. The ride is tight and smooth, the sound system is crisp, the seats are perfect (everyone else is crazy to say anything bad about them). The only complaint I have is that there is no fuel economy gauge so that I can tell how well I'm doing with the mileage but that is relatively minor. I would recommend this car to pretty much anyone.
Paint and Brakes
Paint is not great. I am experiencing spotty pitting in the clear coat that is somewhat baffling. The brakes have squealed since I bought the car. The dealer offered no help except to say that Honda was aware of the problem.
Steering Wheel Shudders When Braking
Bought this car with 50 miles. Currently, it's at 288 miles. Car shakes when braking. Feels like the brake rotors are warped!!
Overall an Excellent Vehicle
This is absolutely one of the best cars I've ever owned. Ride quality, quality of workmanship, handling, performance are all excellent. It is a fun car to drive. I can find nothing negative about this vehicle. The seats are very comfortable. This is an excellent vehicle for the price. Comparatively speaking, I consider it equal to Mercedes, Audis, and BMWs.
Well Balanced
Balanced between sufficient power (190hp) and fuel economy, between cabin space and sportiness, and excellent suspension tuning. The torque may seem delayed, but the power is there when the Vtech kicks in. The engine noise is noticeable, but it sounds nice. It's not straining to move the car. It's a lot of car for the money. Maybe not the best at anything, but really good at everything. It's a big car, make no mistake about it. Coming out of a Civic it's huge. But I wanted a big car. Maybe not "fun" to drive, but very easy to drive.
Uncomfortable Seats
The seats in my 2009 Honda Accord are so uncomfortable that I am going to sell the car after owning the car for only 8 months. Honda of America is not interested in helping me find a solution.
Got what I paid for!
Yes, there is some road noise, however the suspension is firm to enhance the handling which is sporty. I actually like the firm ride and road feel which offers strong cornering and good tracking. I paid $23,300.00 for EX-L version with the 4 cylinder and I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The interior is very roomy and offers good comfort. The Accord has a unique design that offers a sporty European look. I decided to go with the 4 cylinder for the fuel economy and sufficient 190 HP on a FWD. I compared to BMW 3 series and Lexus compact and decided to keep the $7,000 difference in my pocket. You can get more car but you'll have to pay extra for it!
Well Built Vehicle
I have owned many cars in my 25 years of driving, (i.e Nissan Maxima, Infiniti G35, Ford Mustang, Nissan Sentra). I never imagined owning a Honda after Nissan vehicles for the last 15 years. The Accord meets my expectations in styling, performance and workmanship. I don't understand why so many people are complaining about road noise and lack of comfort. The Accord does have a firm ride which adds to good handling. I don't like mushy ride and a loose steering wheel. I find that the Accord handles better than the 3 Maximas that I owned. The interior is very roomy and well made (no squeaks and rattles that I had with Nissan). I have not had one problem in the first 90 days of ownership.
2009 Accord Coupe EX-L V-6 with NAVI
I've been a Honda owner for 8 years and my wife and I have had 6 during that time. They've all been extremely reliable and safe cars but they've also been like vanilla ice cream when it comes to looking at them. They've all had the features we've wanted and most of them have been loaded. But until this new design, none of them have been very exciting. This car is gorgeous!! And it stands out getting looks everywhere I go. I opted for the coupe because I didn't like the look of the sedan, especially in the rear. The coupe however changes all of that! I went with every bell & whistle available and no regrets.
My Black on Black Accord Coupe
This car is very fun to drive, very solid build, and very roomy for a midsize 2 door coupe. The V6 gets good gas mileage considering the amount of performance it has and power whenever you need it. The inside is comfortable and is not as bad as some people make it out to be, but it is no Mercedes or BMW. Ride quality is above average, but could be a little better on a $30K MSRP car. It is very beautiful inside and out. I opted for black on black, design is superb, and the chrome additions to the car make it look 10x better. When I first bought it my coworkers thought it was a Jag or Lexus and liked it better than my coworker's Lexus that they had just purchased. So far I'm very happy!
Uncomfortable Seats, Road noise
Just bought the car. Owned a lot of cars and I must say this is the most uncomfortable seats in any car I have owned. It hurts the lower part of your back after a half hour. It's like a hard lumbar that doesn't go away. Called Honda America, and they said that they will document it. If you own one and experience this problem call them. More complaints the better hopefully! Road noise is pretty loud.
Nice, but Ouch!!!
I love the way my Honda looks drives. The ride is firm, but gentle and the braking is superb! The radio in the Ex-L sounds great. I am still trying to get used to the headlight flicker that occurs at night. Not sure what is causing that, but it is not that big of an issue. The one big issue that I am experiencing has to do with the driver's seat. The seatback has a pronounced lumbar support that "forces" your back into an S. For me, this becomes painful after a few minutes of driving. So much so that I may have to trade it in for a different car if I can't get used to it.
Very good car but....
Good acceleration, smooth transmission, lots of value for the money. Sharp looks in Basque Red Pearl/Beige interior with pinstripe. Car rides very nice and has high quality built into it. This is a very good car but I find the seat to be very hard and uncomfortable for trips over 45 minutes. The road noise is somewhat noticeable but not overly intrusive.
Major Brake Issues
My fiance and I purchased an '09 EX 4 Cyl. without navigation in Sept. 2008. The car rides great and is fun to drive. The gas mileage is terrific. Honda has refused to address a major brake issue as of yet. We have already had to spend nearly $200 for new rear brake pads in 16 months. Brake pads should not wear out that quickly. Honda has had many complaints and the web is filled with comments on the issue. Let's hope Honda does the right thing.
Brakes squeal
Nice car but the front RT brake started to squeal. Dealer reports no Honda fix to the issue yet. Still trying to get everything replaced until it is resolved. Also poor gas mileage, averaging 20 mpg in rural driving. Other than that it has been fun to drive so far. Do notice the VCM kicking in and out , could be smoother or perhaps a bypass to go into full time 4 or 6 cylinder mode.
Very happy so far
Have my Honda for 8 months with no problem. Glad I made this choice. The car is somewhat big, so parking may be an issue. The only other thing is road noise. Otherwise - comfort, quality, MPG, appearance are superior. Get used to VSM, which did not like in the beginning.
Great Car
Had a 2005 Honda Accord exl w/ navi and loved it. Never had one problem. Bought this one in Apr of 09. Was hoping that the economy of running 3 cyl when 6 not needed would help the mileage (it didn't) over the 05 model. drove the 05 from midwest to west coast 4 times and averaged 30 mpg over 1500 mile trip each time. Just arrived in Nv. this year and we averaged 28 mpg. Other than disappointment with the mileage I love the car. I feel this car has better drivers seat comfort than the 05. I usually drive 850 miles first day on way to the west, and did have back problem with the 05. NONE with the 09.
It’s a oil drinker
I have to change the oil after every 500- 1k miles but it’s reliable and has good mileage

Great car!
I bought this car in 2024 with 142000 miles. I've seen lots of negative reviews, but I'm honestly baffled by them, this car is nothing short of excellent. Great milage, quiet ride, and no brake problems, maybe it's got enough miles that it's broken in.🙂

The car is pretty solid.
I've had this car for 5 years now. All I've done besides maintenance is replace the alternator. It's quick enough. I really have no complaints about the vehicle.

You Absolutely Can't Beat A Honda Accord
Phenomenal car - drove my 2009 to 96,000 miles with only ONE repair - a new starter. Other than oil changes, tires and a couple batteries, that was IT! My Accord EXL was an exceptional car in every way!
2009 Honda Accord
This is our first Honda. The 2009 is fantastic. Love the leather; 4cyl is plenty of power, smooth, quiet. So much interior room it's amazing. And the stereo in this car is like a private concert hall. Stunning. I can't wait to get back in the car every day!
They finally got it right!
I have owned the following: 1994 Accord LX Coupe; 2005 Toyota Camry LE; and now, 2009 Accord LX Sedan with 5-speed manual. My new car was bought after much detailed and painstaking research. Issues with past Accords that kept me away: Road noise, stiffness of ride, high price, arrogant dealerships. I got lucky by finding a good dealer that gave me good value on 05 Camry. Camrys started to have an issue with valves rattling (70K miles!), so I may have had a lemon. It was a refined vehicle, and the ride in my new Honda is a only a touch louder and harsher, . But I get better mileage, more agile, new suspension is wonderful. Close & tough choice, but made best decision. Looks more masculine !
STIFF AND THIRSTY!!!!
How do these companies get away with misleading mileage estimates? I have had my 4CYL Accord EX-L for almost a month and have yet to break the 22 m.p.g barrier on mixed or extended highway trips!! The acceleration for the 190 h.p is very good and the steering is nicely weighted. The ride though is very stiff and the leather driver's seat is even stiffer. I have a 37 mile one way drive to work and it is annoying trying to find a comfortable seating position. Honda please isolate the road noises luckily it has a good radio to try and drown out the LOUD road noise. I think higher profile tires might soften and quiet the ride...MAYBE!! I'll need the high resale value on the trade in SOON!!
Just as I Exepected
Considered 09' Acura TSX but it was smaller, more expensive, cost more in insurance and only had a few more luxury stuffs. Considered and test-drove '09 Mazda 6. The interior was almost as big but the materials used seem inferior; dashboard design not as elegant and the side mirrors were 1/3 smaller. 6's Bose stereo also didn't sound any better. After 3 months the Accord is exactly what I expected. I thought real hard about V6 but the 4-cylinder can handle everyday driving without much problem. Every now and then when hard acceleration is called, flash of regret of not buying V6 came across my mind but mostly this version does the job just fine. Bottom line: best family sedan today.
No Rear Brakes
Good handling - solid performance - everything that you would expect from a Honda - my two sons are over 6 feet tall and there is plenty of leg room in the rear. And of course great gas mileage - however, watch out for the rear brakes on this car - I just had the car in for a 15,000 mile service and only had 5% left on the rear brakes - the mechanic told me the brake pad is a 1 inch by 1 inch pad that wears out every 12k-15k miles - Honda claims they are aware of the problem but no recall or service warranty issued by Honda yet? That is why I got rid of my Suburban - undersized brakes for the car - now it seems I have the same problem with a Honda??? Unheard of.
