We purchased this vehicle when it was 2 years old, with 30,000 miles on it. Right now, we have 60+k miles on it and not a single problem with it. I begin to wonder if the extended warranty (7yr/100kmiles) was a waste of money? We had German cars but this one is by far more luxurious for the price. Also I feel safer driving Honda than VW or BMW.

This care has been zero maintenance (except for routine maintenance which I have performed according to schedule.) It has certainly turned me into a Honda owner.

I am a college student and up to this point the car has worked great for me. But transmission just started acting up and I am having it rebuilt right now, which will leave me practically destitute. Never expected this from a Honda, which is why I saved up to buy it in the first place. What a mistake! Honda America does not even respond to my letters or return my calls for assistance. Don't know why only '00-'01 models get extended powertrain warranty when it is the same transmission in '98- '99 models. Apparently I'll never know anyway since they won't even acknowledge me. This will certainly be my last Honda.

I bought my 99 Accord LX in March with 81k miles. In 7 months, I have added 14k to that and don't regret it one bit. Its been more than reliable. This is my second Honda and I'm sure to have a third. Other than changing the oil and gassing it up, there's nothing else that needs to be done. I wish I could have happened on the EX model when I found this one, just for extra bells and whistles, but I'm happy with what I've got. The gas mileage is awesome, too. I did a lot of traveling shortly after purchasing it and it was affordable. Everything has been affordable and they've got great resale value. The dealer trade-in value is more now than I paid for mine back in March! I love my honda!

Great but too large

I bought this car used after my grandfather died. I would have never chosen a car this large, but in whole I am quite pleased with it. It is very well- built. Everything is solid and it rides well. It gives the driven a firm feel for the road which is important. The leather seats, while too large for me, are well-supporting and easily adjustable. The five-speed transmission shifts smoothly and offers a lot of fun acceleration. The air conditioning works well and doesn't draw too much power from the engine. The fuel economy, while not that of a Civic, is very respectible (~30 mi/gal for my driving). The especially enjoy the sunroof which is automatic.

Good engine power: "a lot of get up & go"; classy interior; excellent gas mileage; nice size for traveling (room enough for 5 to travel); there have been a couple recalls i.e. driver seat adjusters; passenger side door lock has been occasionally not working with the power locks (must lock/unlock it manually); well-built car, the body of the car held up well in a fairly bad wreck; overall, I love the car and have very few complaints= excellent buy!

This is my second NEW Honda (my first was a 97 accord) and I am trading it in for my third new Honda this month. I have had NO mechanical problems with it in 72,000 miles. Everything inside the car MAKES SENSE for the driver and the passengers. I never had to worry about whether or not my car would start, or whether I had the power to pass a slow truck on a two-lane mountain road. In fact, my first Honda was nicknamed Balto by my kids - after the incredibly loyal and reliable sled dog from the legend. Bottom line, I LOVE this car, and you will too!

The last car I had was a 1996 Honda Accord LX sedan. I loved that car... unfortunately a guy pulling out of a parking lot in a truck didnt share that same love. To make a long story short, I wound up with this 1999 Honda Accord EX-L. It performs very well with a lot of peppiness. I get about 30-35 mpg on the highway and 20-25 mpg in town. The car is comfortable to drive in and is very spacious. The bottomline is that you cant beat a Honda for value, performance, and integrity.

Got a Honda Accord Ex sedan in Apr. 99 and it is a wonderful investment. The only gripes that I've had were like the guy in the previous review said, I got scared when the engine stalled when I was in the left turn lane. Everything died and I was luckily able to make it to my Honda dealer after restarting the car 10 times. Honda fixed it free of charge though cause it was a recall. That happened when the car was at 60K miles. Now, its at 77K and still running well. I just wish now it had more horsepower

My only complaint with this car is road noise. At freeway speeds there is a fair amount of road noise that seems to come from under the car. Other than that, we love this car.

I bought this car new in January of 1999. In that time I've only done scheduled maintenance except for replacing the battery. 100% reliable transportation, everything works just like it did the day I drove it off the lot. It's not the most powerful or sporty car on the road and the newer models get better fuel economy but Honda has proven to me that they build reliable vehicles.

I have owned a model year Nissan Altima, a Toyota Camry V6 and the Honda Accord. While I thought the Camry would be my favorite (the Altima was a disaster and traded within one year) after 4 years and 107,000 miles it was in need of serious mechanical attention and was traded. The Accord, however has 137,000 miles and has been the most reliable and required the least maintenance. In fact, it's only been in the shop twice over these past 8 years, once for ignition and once for clutch (just recently).

Fantastic. Two minor complaints otherwise its perfect. When Honda makes a full-sive SUV or pickup as good as the Accord, domestics are in more trouble. Will definitely buy another (wife insists).

1999 4i 5MT Accord LX manufactured in Japan (Saitama, IIRC). The only thing that's broken in 9 years is the windshield. It's for all intents as- new, and gets 32ish mpg in mixed driving, which makes it tough to trade in for something "better". As a used vehicle, a well-maintained Accord is about as good as it gets.

Like the look inside & outside. Great gas mileage with 25/30 easily. Performance, ride, feel, quality, fuel economy basically hold after 4.5 years in use. Dynamic performance is so so even in new but this type of car is mainly for family use. Overall impression? A solid car with high quality for years - a huge plus for any vehicle. High resale value is the reflection of that. Complaints? Yes. Screw loose type of rattle noise is kind of born with the car and annoying. Trans automatic gear shift is not the best. Engine is occasionally hard to start in cold or raining days.

This is my second Accord. I purchased the car at the end of my 48 months lease. For what it is, it drives great. It inspires confidence on the road and the car is easy to position even over the limits. An ideal format for me and it is very roomy. I wouldn't be confortable in a smaller car like an A4 or 3-series. I had a few minor issues, but no unexpected out of pocket expense in 110000km. (except the tire jack that crashed with no reason)! Service from dealer (Blainville) is very good. Styling is contemporary and better than average for the class. I can only recommend.

A Cracked Engine Head at 107,000 Miles!

I absolutely love(d) my Accord EX 4 dr. sedan. It was the funnest car I ever drove! It cornered great,it was peppy, reliable. I had the recommended timing belt maintenance done at 105,000 miles, also an oxygen sensor blew then too. Spent $1,000 on that preventive maintenance, only to have my engine head crack at 107,000 miles! I had no warning, no difference driving, but oil and antifreeze were mixing and the liquid looked like mud!! The pressure blew and popped a radiator hose just 4 months later. Cracked engine &I need a used engine put in for $2750, NOT! Needless to say, I am very disappointed and plan to write Honda to demand an answer as to why this would happen on their #1 product-cars

I HAVE PURCHASED MY 99 ACCORD V6 IN JUNE OF 2001. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE BEEN REALY SATISFIED WITH THIS CAR. THE ENGINE IS POWERFULL, THE LEATHER SEATS ARE REALY COMFORTABLE AND THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS CAR IS EXCELLENT. BEFORE I GOT THIS CAR I LOOKED AT THE CAMRY, BUT DIDN'T LIKE THE BODY STYLE (NOT EVEN THE NEW ONE). I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS CAR TO ANYBODY WHO IS LOOKING FOR A FUN TO DRIVE SEDAN WITH EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE.

I bought a 1999 accord dx manual 5spd Out of desperation in order to drive out and see my family. I'm sure it would have been a great car and I would still probably have to this day if I had put a timing belt on it when I bought it. It blew one on the way back home. Trashed the head (valve interference) Parts were fairly cheep and I built a new engine in my apt living room. But then the complex had the body towed. And I couldn't afford to get it out. I'm positive with the new engine it would have driven forever. Sold everything that was left and that was that. The lesson here is DO NOT trust the previous owner (seller) no mater what. And always change/check the timing belt before long road trips when you buy used Hondas. Interior was worn but comfortable. I liked the car. But it did not like me

The 5 speed is noticeably faster than the automatics and gets 25 mpg average with much sportier exhaust sounds. Engine Revs very sweetly to 6000 Rpm which is good as most of the power is in the higher revs. Excellent handling and steering for a family sedan. Good shifter and easy simple controls. Lots of room. Great visibility. Ac only just adequate and climate control panel troublesome as are catalytic converters, starters and door locks. Mediocre brakes. Excessive road noise. Engine and transmission will last over 500,000 with frequent oil, timing belt and coolant changes. My 23 year old car has the original clutch, engine power and only uses one quart oil every 3000 miles.

Over 400k!

Bought used in 2015 with 220k for $2150. The best money I've ever spent on a car, new or used. It's a stick, so didn't have issues with the transmission. Did have to replace the clutch at 280k (a whopping $450). I don't baby the car, it's is very fun to drive. It's been used for deliveries for about 150k of that mileage since I've owned. Cons, the air doesn't work but hasn't since I bought it. Replaced the alternator 3 times, last two were probably caused by leaking power steering pump shorting it out. Power steering pump. Couple of very small rust spots. Brake lines replaced. I do most of the work myself (clutch and brake lines were done at a local shop) very easy to work on and cheap parts. I'm guessing probably $1500-$1800 in additional expenses other than regular maintenance (I don't change the oil every 3k probably 5 to 7). Not bad for 8 years and over 200k on a car that had over 200k on it already.

i bought my accord used, the ulev edition, which is built in japan. the transmission is only now, at 199,000 miles, is starting to slip a little, mostly due to old tranny fluid. american built hondas are the ones that are giving the company a bad rap. you can't build a japanese product outside of japan, it just won't work. won't buy another honda because they majority are built in the u.s. now, but will never rule out buying a used one after researching where the car was built.

I recently purchased a 1999 Honda Accord EX under the belief that Hondas were reliable. The car has 83K miles and the transmission slips and oil is leaking into the coolant. I will probably have to replace the engine and transmission. I have contacted Honda who are unwilling to help out. This is my third and last Honda. I mention this issue to others so they do not go through a similar experience.
