Restoration
I love my 94 GMC Sierra. I often think about buying a new truck but I can't part with this truck. It has a straight bench seat with a 5 speed manual trans on the floor, tons of power and runs great after 250, 000 miles. I've decided to spend the money on restoring it and am getting the speakers replaced next week and then a paint job. When the time comes to rebuild or replace the engine does anyone out there have any recommendations on the difference between a Jasper engine, Chevy crate replacement or just a major rebuild? I would greatly appreciate any advise on restoration issues.
Hell Yes I Love My Truck
I'm in love with my '95 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. She's currently broken down but it took her 195,xxx miles. But the engine, tranny, and everything else is still GREAT. Just the transfer case gave out when I was pullin' a dodge out of the sand(got it out) but she gave out afterwards. So I'm rebuilding it. But other then that she's everything I need. I've taken this set-back as a chance to fix 'er up. Just ordered Halo projector headlights/LED turn signals, new grille assembly, &performance chip. Soon to order smoked LED tail lights and 3rd brake light, tires, seat covers, door panels, chrome handles all around, 5in fender flares, 3-5 in body lift, and other things. CAN'T WAIT!

Good Truck
Received this truck from my step dad a few years ago. It had set up in a hot; damp climate for several years. It's been a great truck once all the issues brought on by improper long term storage were corrected. This is a 1994 truck and the V-6 is a little lacking in get up and go but she pulls strong and gets down the road just fine. Did have to change out the radio/cassette player; speakers included. That was a interesting project just seeing how the original system was designed and installed. The only thing currently wrong with the truck is the recirculate vent actuator; it thumps (rather loudly) for 10 to 20 seconds when ever the key is turned on or off. The actuator gear is stripped and keeps trying to open and or shut the damper door which is held closed by spring tension. Eventually the actuator times out. Damper door stays shut and it operates as if in the recirculating/max cool mode. Just too much time and fiddling dropping the interior AC unit to replace the actuator. Other than the noise the AC and Heater system work great.

100% truck
Had 1995 GMC ext cab Sierra truck for 2 yrs now and love it. Tows almost everything, strong, safe. Got in accident, no damage crushed other cars fender. Looks nice, comfortable. Second row kinda compact. Drive it all around Atlanta and north Georgia for work. Fun to drive off road. No major problems, but a/c went out 1 year ago. Keyless entry, 20 mpg average, 4wheel drive capable, can see very well at night, good get up and go. GMC perfected the truck. I'm going to give it to my son in one year when he can drive and I'm going to miss not having it everyday.
Solid GMC
I purchased my GMC new in 95 and have been pleased with the truck since I purchased it. I have, to this point, had one main problem with the driver's seat base bracket. The bracket actually broke out of warranty and GMC agreed to pay half of the replacement cost since I had reported having a problem with it before the warranty ran out. The seat still has some movement in it but not excessive. Overall, I have enjoyed owning the truck and have made a few enhancements to it myself since buying it.
Thunder Rolls
95 Sierra Z-71 Extended cab. Owned it since day 1. Now has 263,000 miles on her. Has been in the shop 4 times in 14 years. No real major issues. If you take care of her, she will take care of you. I love this truck. Thought about trading her during cash for clunkers and test drove the F-150, Chevy Silverado and the Ram. They still didn't compare to her. My old gal still rode better and had the same or more power. Furthermore, the cost of a new truck is insane. I can buy half a house for the cost of a new truck. The Tundra was nice but 42k about killed me. They don't make them as solid as this one anymore. If you want a good dependable work horse, this is it. I think I'd cry if I sold her:(
brown bear
I have had my truck (brown bear) for over a year and it has been an amazing truck. With oover 200,000 miles under the hood and the most major mechanical problem was replacing the fuel pump. This truck is smooth and reliable. A great buy.
Old Blue, 94 Z71
Transporting four generations of my family this has been an awesome truck. Purchase back in 96 has traveled all over the USA. Still going strong with 298000 miles this month.

One helluva a truck
I bought this truck when my old when died. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, even more when I heard it! To date this truck has had only one major problem and that was the factory rear end locking up and breaking the ring gear and the axle passing me on the highway. This truck has done everything I've ever asked of a truck and it just keeps going. It's beautiful, and the 350 V8 is amazing and allows easy modification. Overall the best vehicle I have ever owned!!
Awesome truck!
This truck pulled a race car and trailer, every weekend, flawlessly for 6 yrs. We've hit the 280,000 mile mark and still going. Only problem was the gas used when towing. We switched to diesel, but still use the '94 for daily driving.
"GREAT
this truck is great i got this as my first car, and i haven't fixed anything besides the oil lines. that was below 100. this is the z71 model.
Best truck made
has 196500 miles, only thing I have had to do is: a/c compressor, rear bearings, rear main seal in engine...knock on wood, not even a water pump yet or alternator...no tranny problems EVER...put chip in as soon as I got it..got 21 mpg w/350 engine on vacation trips!!!!I tow trailers and haul often...best truck I ever owned..I wish I could buy another same model new!!!!
P-O-W-E-R!
Now i've seen my fair share of powerful trucks but this is the fastest out of them all.190 horses doesn't seem like much but belive me it is.Since we bought it in late 2003 we haven't had a chance to put it to the long term reliability test. We've owned (older) chevrolets, fords, and even dodges in the past but this thing stands out from the rest of them. This thing can tow like a bat out of hell and it still lets you know what it's made of.We have the Z71 package and it has an ok ride...what you'd expect from a pickup of its size and since it has a three inch lift kit it compromises the ride a bit.t gets about 13/16 as a usual truck
Great Truck
I bought this truck from my uncle about a year ago. He bought it new in late 1993 I believe. He put the first 185,000 miles on it and I plan on driving it until it dies. The only problems that he ever had was the starter and a short in the brake lights (simple fixes) The only repairs I have done to it was a new distributor cap and wires due to a rough idle (first time the cap had ever been replaced) It does not leak or smoke at all. I average 15mpg city. Some simple modifications I have done for the appearance are: flowmaster system, 285-75-16 tires and later model stock wheels, and I cranked the torsion bars about an inch to level it out and ensure the tires do not rub off-road..

i have had very good experiences with this vehicle.
94gmc
94 GMC Sierra sle 5.0l I'm the only owner of mine and I love it just turned over to a hundred thousand and its 2021 just rebuilt transmission and timing chain. Runs like new.
never selling it
this truck is perfect for anyone looking for a dependable truck that you can make all the modifications you want. i have had a few problems (expected from a truck with 315000 miles on it) but nothing that can't be fixed yourself. the few problems i had were things that i thought were going to cost a fortune b/c of what the truck was doing. but they were not at all as bad as they seemed. if you are looking this truck is a trooper this is it, i backed in to a 03' cadillac cts it was $8000 of damage to it and all it did to my truck is push in the bumper.
great truck!!!
I bought this truck about 10 days a go with 150,000 I bought it in talala I drove it home which is about 70 mi (no pobs ever!) is fast and tows anything and every thing!. Its gets about 17 mpg and its not bad. And thats with a 350 5.7l and King cab. By Brent
I love my truck!
i have a 95 sierra long box 4x4 that i have done some modifications to. being 16 i like to add things to it like so far a visor avs bug visor and vent shades, cherry bomb extreme. i love it it has a lot of power it looks nice. i recomend it! btw it has a vortec 305
Love This Truck
I bought my truck from a friend and at the time he used it to haul a racecar trailer every weekend. I purchased it with 125,000 miles - he said good luck he didn't think it would last much longer (the body and interior were in excellent shape and it mechanically sound). I got it super cheap because of his stupidity. This truck consistently hauls a horse trailer that is too big for it and does a lot of other hard work. It's pushing 240k miles and everything is still original. Of course it gets maintenance regularly and has had some minor issues (EGR valve, blower motor resistor, etc). I'm starting to get a little rust on the body right behind both doors. However, the truck is still solid.
Excellent Pickup
I love my '95 GMC. I tow a trailer and haul ATVs with it. I help people move. I haul heavy loads of scrap wood out of our cabin property. Then I clean it up and cruise in style and comfort through town, and I get plenty of admiring glances and folks telling me what a beautiful truck I have and how much they loves these old GMCs. I've had no problems with it. I can work on it, it's so simply. Maintenance is a cinch. The interior is comfy and I can haul my whole family. This truck is happiest when just cruising around relaxed. It is pleasant to travel in, or work in. My best mileage yet was 18mpg, or 425 gallons on one tank, and that was pulling a light trailer. Highly recommend a '95 GMC.
No worries for high miles
I bought my GMC with 228,000 miles on it, I did have some needed repairs that needed to happen, but it was the most fun, reliable, and just plain great car I've ever owned. Even with the high miles, all original engine, 6" lift and 35" tires, I was still getting great milage, and tons of admiring looks. I'd highly recommend GMC to any buyer.
Great truck!!
Love it! These trucks are bullet proof! Fun to drive with the 350 and 5 speed!

Just Change the Oil & Filters
I used this vehicle for work and commuted 500 miles in it every weekend for 5 years. I maintained it by the book and it never gave me any trouble. Replaced an alternator and transmission seal and 4 windshields. Very dependable - 218,000 miles when I sold it.
daily driver turned show truck
Bought in 96, I just got it for everyday use. The only problem I ever had inside 100K miles was the fuel sender unit shorted out; $700 fix. Outside that, it runs fantastic, sounds great, and as of two years ago, quit seeing duty as a daily driver and began life as my show truck. I tore the engine down at 133K to add more hp, but it was still running great to that point! honestly the best vehicle i have owned (out of 15)
A good friend
I bought this truck with just 6,000 miles on it in 1995. It now has 220,000! Only the expected repairs have been needed over the years such as fuel pump, alternator, radiator, fuel filter, brakes etc. I've taken very good care of it and just this last winter some rust has begun to show up at the bottom of the extended cab part and bottom of right door. I've seen others that have rusted much younger. The seats (wear like iron) and ride are very comfortable with hwy mpg of about 19. Not too bad for 14 yrs. Still, I use it for my business and need something that looks newer. I will miss this truck and would recommend one anytime. (might just give it to my daughter)
Awesome
I have owned this truck for just over one year now, and haven't had any problems with it yet. Just put on new tires and dual exhaust. This truck has plenty of power pulling a trailer or anything life throws at you. The only bad thing is that im getting around 11 mpg in town, but that dosent bother me, its a truck after all. I plan to keep it till it dies.
Genuine Sierra
I bought this truck brand new in January of 1994. The sticker price was $25,454. This is the absolute best truck that I have ever owned. It came fully loaded; everything but leather. I installed a K&N FIPK kit to the 350 powerplant and added a Gibson exhaust a couple of months ago. Gibson is the best!! This full size extended cab Z- 71 truck gets 20.86 miles per gallon. I love this truck!! After nearly 128,000 miles, the only major problem has been the air compressor, which was covered by warranty with nearly 200 miles to spare before 36,000!!
Best truck I've ever seen and owned.
What an incredable driving experience! The powerful 350, great interior, and body style make this a great pick. Not to mention the dependability, and solid feel of the car. Perfomance exhaust by Flowmaster or Gibson is definately a best buy so you can hear and feel all the car has to offer. Whatever you plan on using this truck for you're gonna love it!
Best Vehicle I have owned.
This has been a very reliable vehicle. Constantly receiving complements on the appearance. Practicle and fun at the same time. Win Win situation.
Truck that could
This is one great truck. Purchasing the truck as a left over in 1994 loaded with everything (350 V8). In this year, buyers did not want leather and this truck sat. Sticker was $24,100 and I paid $20,660. At 10 years old the truck looks and drives like new. Bought the truck with father-in-laws reccomendation. He had every brand of truck over the past 50 years and told me nothing beats the GM truck on overall, long-term performance. He was right. I tow a 28ft travel trailer. If you can find a nice one buy it. They last forever and parts are dirt cheap.
1994 GMC GOOD TRUCK
I purchased my 1994 GMC truck in 1996 due to my coaching obligations as a High School Teacher. I was a soccer coach for several years and I needed a truck. I have had several full sized trucks in the past but this is the best one I have ever had. Thanks GMC TODD CALHOUN
Excellent
This is the most reliable truck ever made my GM, maybe I’m a lucky one but I have never had any big problems with it. After 140k it’s still running strong. The turning radius might not be as good as the new ones but she rides like new and runs great. The fuel economy isn’t that great (13mpg) but what a truck.
6.5 Turbo Diesel
If you happen to come across a 95 GMC 1500 6.5TD, you need to include it in your family photos. This is one you'll never forget. From the GM-8 Borg Warner turbo, to the 4.11 limited slip rear w/ locking front differential - this is the vehicle you drive over the Porsche or Camaro if you're late. I've had mine for 5 years. It has rust but mostly the chips fall on PowerStroke 6.0/6.4/7.3 or whatever else they haven't kept up with well over a decade later. Live in an area with protests? Slap a grill on the front and once they hear the deafening lifters dancing to the 24:1 compression, people will run.

Owner 23 of 26 years and this thing is bulletproof
My dad originally bought this truck when I was almost 12, we took on every sports trip for years and years, and I've been driving it since I was in high school. Now over 230k miles, still on the original engine (5.7L), tranny (Automatic), and transfer case. I've had to replace the A/C system, a radiator, water pump, and wear parts. The astounding thing is this truck is not my daily driver, sometimes it will sit for weeks or months, cold weather even, and I turn the key and it starts right up every time. There is no way I would ever trade this for a new truck, this thing is perfect. I've had to do a lot of winter driving, I've driven AWD Audis, Volvos, and every 4WD American truck and this is the best vehicle I've ever driven in the snow. My favorite part is it will let you fishtail as much as you want and then if you really punch it, it will straighten right out. I will eventually spend the money to fix all the cosmetic issues (no real rust, just the paint is flaking and has some dents) and I will gladly spend whatever money necessary to keep it mechanically sound. I love this truck more than just about anything.

My GMC
I have had this vehicle since my father passed away. He bought it brand new and I received it after that. It is in excellent conditon with a camper shell. Top to bottom excellent shape, I keep it up to date on oil changes and routine maintenance.
Reliable workhorse
Reliable and comfortable. I am original owner, maintenance costs have been reasonable. Gas mileage not the best. Spare tire location not convenient, cable rusted off and tire disappeared.

Served well. A shortcoming: the fire wall developed a fissure, allowing water to leak into the front passenger floor.
