2024 GMC Canyon Consumer Reviews

FINALLY got my AT4!!!
I special ordered a Canyon AT4, blue, advanced trailering package, sprayed on bed liner in July of '23...fast forward 8 months of UAW strike, model year switchover delays, software rewrites, 'stop-sale' due to whatever other issues - I took delivery of my '24 on 3/30. Very nice upgrade from my '17 Colorado Z71. Ride is smoother overall, 4WD Auto worked great during an early April snowstorm, but I miss my V6. Probably mostly the sound. The I4 TurboMax definitely has guts, better towing capacity, whatever...but the sound when I punch it is going to take some getting used to - not that its bad, just different. Exterior styling is AWESOME, despite being forced into a crew cab - previous ride was an Extended Cab, which was all I really needed. I'll miss that 12" of bed length come camping season, but I'll manage. Interior trim is primary reason for choosing over a new Colorado: Canyon, tuxedo...Colorado, cheap sport coat. Reason #2 was the front end styling, particularly below the bumper - Chevy needs to ditch that ugly ass rubber air dam and go with something a bit more aggressive. Only reason for the one star 'ding' is fuel economy - a 2.7L I4T has lower fuel economy than a 3.6L V6???

I Don't Love It
I've had the truck for about two months now, with mixed results. Exterior: design is modern, LED lights are bright and very nice, when they work. Like that there aren't turn signal indicators on side mirrors, or blinking third brake light. Cameras are very nice, wish it was easier to activate them when moving. Nice off-road, AT4 trim handles a lot of bumps and grunts. Not crazy about the G80 differential, but it does work, eventually getting me out of ruts. Good ride height and visibility. except through rear window which isn't bad, just okay. One of the biggest problems with this truck for me is that it's too complicated and overloaded with tech that doesn't produce any true value as the owner. some examples - Those LED headlights I like, they flicker / twinkle and while GMC initially issued a replace TSB, now they say additional research is needed for a solution. $1,500 faulty part (per assembly) installed at build, no solution after many months. Other misses in design- No handle for driver to assist in entering. No physical headlight control. No control for rear sliding window. EXTREMELY poor storage options. No HomeLink (a technology that's been around for many years and is genuinely useful) Interior looks nice, but it's a tight fit, feels confined. It simply doesn't feel upscale, except for the price. The worst part, and this is more of a complaint about the modern car-buying process in general, is the constant pressure, from the dealership, onboard "reminders", text messages, and emails, to activate what amounts to tracking devices (GMC app, OnStar, Google Location). I absolutely feel monitored when driving (because I am), and I don't like that. I don't like having to fight my truck to enter the garage because the truck is convinced it needs to save me (or it) from hitting a wall. I can turn that tech off and I find myself doing so, even when out on the road, which kind of defeats the purpose of having it. I hate that Auto Stop can't be permanently turned off. There are so many little things that seem like design flaws. It just adds up and makes me yearn for my past truck in it's youth, when it just went anywhere, without bleeps and messages and screens. If GMC could / would fix a few of the obvious shortcomings to this truck that keep it from feeling luxurious and robust, it would probably be a good truck. But I'm not sure I would love it even then. It's too autonomous and distant. I kind of wish I had looked around to see what I could have gotten in a mid 50's restomod for similar money.

Not what I was expecting...
I ordered this new from the factory and waited 6+ months through strikes and delays due to software quality. I love the look, the sturdy feeling of the vehicle and the cabin design. The motor has more than enough power-torque and I get 20+ MPG on average. Unfortunately, This vehicle has left me stranded with only 3K miles on it. Turned out to be a battery that was not fully charged but, no explanation on what was draining the battery. It also has intermittent software issues "backup cam not working, trip counter not giving accurate mileage and the auto hi-beams not working" with the dealer shrugging their shoulders at how to fix it. Outside of this the only other complaint is the seats padding is very thin and feels like your sitting on a board..

Did it again
We began purchasing GMC vehicles about 6 years ago and haven’t looked back. My first was a baseline 2017 Sierra. Full size but bare bones. Loved the spacious cab. Our second was a used 2019 Canyon. At first I regretted getting a smaller cab design and the feeling never really left me. But I liked the V6 and the truck felt solid. Used it to tow my bike up to Cape Cod and was seriously impressed with how it handled. Fast forward to last week. I went to my dealer for the annual inspection and to my wife’s chagrin, bought a 2024 AT4 Canyon. By the way, our dealer, Kelly Gmc in Emmaus PA. Treated us very well. Anyhow, our little truck blues are gone! Like most folks, the infotainment system was bit daunting at first but the interior feels like a huge step up from the 2019. We spoiled ourselves with all the options and especially dig the moon roof. Pretty cool they thought about a little storage box integrated into the tailgate. The cab is definitely larger and sits a few inches higher off the ground. It is a mid size according to specs but feels like the perfect Goldielock compromise between the Sierra and the 2019 Canyon. Just right.

Should Have Waited
I love the looks of the Canyon. Rides real smooth with a streamlined body. I love the remote ap that allows starting, locking, temp controls, etc. I have the Denali package and although a bit pricey, I like it a lot. That being said there are a few negatives. The most annoying aspect of this truck is the glare on the driver and passenger windows. When you look at your side view mirrors, you immediately see the glare of the chrome trim on the dashboard. I thought that I would get used to it over time, but not yet. Gas mileage is supposed to be between 18-20. I have struggled to reach 18 even with highway driving. The infotainment system was a little challenging to learn. I owned the truck for one month and received a recall notice. Head lamps flickered at times. I actually noticed that when I first drove it at night but thought maybe that was how it should work. The engine is a little noisy but once up to speed it is hardly noticeable. Owned for one month and got a recall. Flickering headlights requiring repair and software update. Been waiting 2 1/2 hours for software update. Not good. Should have stuck with my 1989 Chevy S-10 Tahoe. Did not buy at this local dealership. Got a much better deal across state line. Hope I wasn’t flagged for not buying locally and now being punished having to wait.

The BEST Mid-Size Truck
Seven months and 9000 miles into 2024 GMC AT4 ownership. Also considered Tacoma, Ranger, and Colorado. Hands down, the Canyon is the best choice. The ride, engine, and interior is superior in the Canyon. ZERO issues so far. This truck is so fun to drive and looks amazing!

simple gorgeous
Have had my Canyon elevation 2024 for 4 months now and simple love it. Excellent acceleration, smooth ride, quiet cabin, awesome infotainment system. Only issue is fuel gauge monitoring is poorly visualized. It’s a small faint line indicating fuel level.

Love our 24 Canyon at4!
This truck has a terrific ride and good interior room for 2 empty testers and their large dog. Plenty of towing power and off road capability. Summer driving is getting up to 25 mpg and towing our teardrop camper around 15. Brakes are very powerful which is reassuring driving through mountain passes. Best looking midsized truck out there in my opinion.

Looked great on paper.
Well, all in all, I’ve been pretty disappointed in this truck. It’s a Denali version. Pros: It is a really good looking truck. When it works, the infotainment system is really pretty good. I like the storage in the tailgate. Cons: being a $55,000 Denali truck I kind of expected some luxury. There’s is very little of that. While the interior has a few nice touches, the bulk of it is made of very cheap plastic, including places that you touch frequently. It does not have a Homelink garage system, it does not have a remote rear window (which makes the window useless). it does not have hood struts. It does not have a button to access the cameras. It does not have front parking sensors. Front doors only have sensors (not rear doors or tailgate). All of these things should come with a $55k Denali. The engine is noisy and not in a good way and the power is not what you expect given the specifications. Ride is rough. Finally, it’s been pretty unreliable. All in all, it’s a decent truck but should cost $40,000 not $55,000.

A real 2024 review
If you're wonting a pickup truck that's got plenty of power rides and drives like a luxury SUV, fits in your garage, is easy to park and gets 20 mpg + this is it. and it will take you off road and look great doing it. My wife and i love our Truck 10 Stars for us

Large truck feel in a small truck body.
I like the 2.7L engine, very good torque, like a diesel. MPG is about 21-22 in mixed driving, which I think is pretty good for the power and capability. The truck feels large and substantial, like a full-size truck, but it still fits in my garage. Perfect reliability in the first year, dealer service is great, so I'm very happy.

2024 Canyon Denali
It's a nice-looking truck inside and out, but other than looks, this truck has been nothing but problems for a $59K truck. It is now back in the shop for this morning for another relating to the remote start not working. It has been in and out of the shop seven times in just 4500 miles. This 4-cyl is a joke. It is noisy and forget about pushing passing gear. I am going back to a Ford 150.

2024 Canyon Elevation 4x4
Like the truck, except for the crappy cloth seats. After 2,000 miles, front driver's seat sagging. Dealer laughed. Told me to buy BMW. Should of did more research.

GMC Canyon Denali
Top level trim still gets a lot of plastic on dashboard. Good looking car no question. Good technology. I got the sterling metallic which I think is the best color to work with all the chrome trims.

Appealing design with essential missing features
Purchased my very first brand new truck 2024 Canyon Denali. I searched and shopped for months. I finally bit the bullet and purchased this beautiful truck. My first red flag was that there is not a homelink garage button!!! Are you kidding me? No problem, I have myQ smart garage app installed on my cell phone. Problem is, when my phone converts to the in car wifi, myQ does not work. I have to unlink my phone from my car wifi so my I can open the garage door from my phone. Very disappointed that I have to hang my garage door opener back on my visor. The next feature missing is the front park sensor. I cannot believe that this feature is missing from this high-quality vehicle. And lastly, no light in the glove box. I am hoping I adjust to these missing features. I love the interior and this truck is a very comfortable ride. I am already tossing around the idea of trading this thing off as soon as I recover from the depreciation hit.

Fair midsized truck
Overall a nice truck. Elevation is a little pricey at 37k without options…with towing and convenience, came out to about 40k. Fuel economy is average and plastics in interior scratch easily. Only have 2k miles on it so only time will tell how well the truck holds up. Would be great to have passive entry button on tailgate to only unlock tailgate when you need tools, rather than keeping entire cab unlocked. Overall impressive little truck.

I am pretty pleased so far
Nice ride, everything works, good engine power and braking. I wish I had a little more interior storage compartments. Overall I am satisfied and I am a former Tacoma Sport 4x4 driver.
Disappointed
GM quality has really gone downhill. Probably last GM product I'll buy. I've got a 2024 Canyon less than a year. Three warranty issues so far and the dealer acts like they're doing YOU a favor. What a hassle. Various exterior plastic parts made with talc filled resin are turning white and looks ridiculous. I really want to love this truck but too many quality issues.
