It only took Genesis a few years to find its footing and produce a knockout vehicle in the form of the 2023 GV70. We're not saying it's a perfect vehicle, but it's a high performer across the board and presents a value that's unmatched in the small luxury SUV class. The GV70 is fast, comfortable, practical and stylish.

Still fresh from its 2022 debut, the 2023 GV70 carries over with no major changes. The model continues to offer standard all-wheel drive and two capable engine options: a turbocharged four-cylinder good for 300 horsepower and a turbocharged V6 rated at 375 hp. And like other Genesis models, the GV70 is big on value. It delivers an exhilarating driving experience, high-quality interior, and a long list of premium features for thousands less than a comparably equipped competitor.
We think highly of the GV70 and even named it the Edmunds Top Rated Luxury SUV for 2022. But is it the right luxury SUV for you, or might you be happier with an Acura RDX, BMW X3 or Mercedes GLC? Check out our Expert Rating to get the full breakdown from our seasoned test team.

Great
8.3
out of 10
We drove the 2023 Genesis GV70 on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Performance
8/10
How does the GV70 drive? The GV70's enjoyable driving experience starts with its smooth and robust powertrain. The turbocharged V6, which is what we tested, provides easy and accessible power from just about anywhere in its rpm range. In our testing, the GV70 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. The automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts when just tooling around, but it can also crank up the aggression with crisp, positive shifts when the roads get fun.
Around turns, the GV70 isn't as sporty as a Porsche Macan, but it responds intuitively and predictably to your inputs. Braking is predictable too, with a natural-feeling pedal stroke that makes it easy to stop smoothly. All in all, it is a quick and smooth SUV but not the athlete that some others are.

Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the GV70? Comfort is a big part of what makes the GV70 a great SUV. The front seats are highly adjustable, and our test vehicle's seats also had heating, ventilation and a massaging feature. The rear seat cushions are also pretty comfy and offer a generous amount of recline. An adaptive suspension (standard with the V6) adjusts itself based on the road conditions ahead. The ride isn't quite as plush as the larger Genesis GV80's, but it strikes a commendable balance between comfort and compliance.
The climate control has a dedicated touchscreen that's easy to use. The seat heating and cooling are nearly unmatched for their intensity, and the heated steering wheel was equally as impressive. A quiet cabin rounds out the luxury experience with dual-pane windows keeping a lot of the wind and ambient noise at bay. There was only some low-level road noise on particularly textured surfaces.

Interior
8.5/10
How’s the interior? The GV70 has a slightly different interior design than other recent Genesis models and is better for it. The infotainment control knob, in particular, is much easier to use than the GV80's. The dial rotates and moves and even features a touch-sensitive surface, all of which can be used to navigate the menus. On the downside, it's easy to mistake the dial for the gear selector, which is also a dial. The touchscreen is also located a bit too far away from the driver, so you might find yourself stretching to press it.
The GV70's cabin is among the more spacious-feeling in the small luxury class. The extra-wide door openings make it easy to get in and out. We love the driving position and appreciate that Genesis makes all the main controls easily accessible for the driver. And despite the GV70's rakish body, it's actually quite easy to see out of.

Technology
8/10
How’s the tech? The GV70 comes with a healthy amount of modern tech. For starters, advanced driving aids including adaptive cruise, lane keeping assistance and collision prevention are all standard. Only the surround-view camera system and blind-spot monitoring are extra, and even then they're reasonably priced as part of a larger package. The upgraded 16-speaker Lexicon audio system is part of that package and well worth the money.
Also standard is the GV70's short but wide 14.5-inch center touchscreen. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, but it doesn't support wireless connectivity for these systems like more and more new vehicles do.
There are plenty of power options for keeping devices juiced up, including four USB outlets, a wireless phone charger and even a 110-volt household-style outlet. The GV70's voice controls can understand a decent amount of natural speech but can only perform functions related to the navigation system, audio system and phone. Other available features include a fingerprint scanner and digital phone key, but we were unable to test their functionality.

Storage
8/10
How’s the storage? Rear cargo space is very generous at 28.9 cubic feet, which is right up there with the class-leading RDX and Jaguar F-Pace. The loading area is wide, allowing for easy loading of larger things. The rear seats can be folded flat from the cargo area, so there's no need to walk around to the rear doors. Genesis' smart trunk opens automatically based on your proximity.
Storage space within the cabin isn't super generous, but it's adequate. The center armrest bin is a decent size, and we love how the tandem cupholders stay out of the way of the driver controls. The wireless charger is deep and out of the way, so you can charge a phone on it and have another one plugged in resting on top of it in that open cubby. The door pockets are a little small and the glovebox is modest, but ultimately there are enough options.
Got kids? The spacious back seat makes it easy to install child safety seats. The anchors and top tethers are easy to access. Towing, however, is limited to just 3,500 pounds, which is well shy of class leaders.

Fuel Economy
7/10
How’s the fuel economy? The GV70 with the V6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg combined. That's decent, though some competitors are slightly more efficient thanks to integration of a mild hybrid system. We ran the GV70 on our 115-mile evaluation route, and it returned an average of 20.2 mpg in heavier than usual traffic. Despite the traffic, we have a feeling that hitting the EPA estimate will be a challenge if you don't drive with efficiency in mind.
Value
8.5/10
Is the GV70 a good value? The GV70 is definitely a value leader when it comes to features, build quality and price in the small luxury SUV segment. While the interior may not quite reach the same level of finish as a Mercedes-Benz or Audi, it certainly isn't far behind. And the areas we think that are lacking — slightly tacky-looking carbon-fiber trim and touchscreen iconography that looks too similar to a Hyundai or Kia product — are pretty minor.
Then when you bring Genesis' warranty into the equation, it leaps even further ahead. The five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranties aren't close to being matched by anyone in this segment. Roadside assistance is good for five years/unlimited miles, which is a year better than most rivals. And Genesis provides free maintenance for three years/36,000 miles.

Wildcard
8.5/10
Genesis is making bold moves and it's paying off. Aside from the "crocodile overbite" hoodline that's hard to unsee, the GV70 is a striking car that catches more attention than most in its class. And it's not just the outside. The interior is a fresh and thoughtful design that looks and feels luxurious.
The GV70 mostly backs up its looks with a driving experience that's sporty enough to have fun on a backroad. The V6 engine is a gem and we're really impressed with how the transmission behaves at different ends of the comfort and performance spectrums.

2023 Genesis GV70 trim level differences
The GV70 is a small luxury SUV available in two trim levels: 2.5T and 3.5T Sport. The 2.5T model comes with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the GV70 3.5T Sport has a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 good for 375 hp and 391 lb-ft. The GV70 also has an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Standard and optional feature highlights include:
Which GV70 trim does Edmunds recommend?
Though the extra power of the 3.5T is tempting, a 2.5T model should provide adequate grunt and save you a significant amount of cash. We'd put those savings toward the Select package, which gets you handy features like ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, power-tilt steering wheel and more.

2023 Genesis GV70 3.5T Sport 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I studied the GV 70 since it first came out and knew this would be my next car. When I finally drove one and looked at the pricing, I couldn’t resist trading my 2020 BMW 840 coupe. I have not been disappointed with the performance of the TwinTurbo V6 and the ride and drive of the car. It’s like a sports car with passenger room. It is ultra quiet but yet when I put it in sport Drive the … character changes to a fun sports car. I considered the Porsche Macan S and the BMW M3 but the money was so much more and the equipment was less which made the Genesis a great value. The only downside of it is the gas mileage, which is only 25 mpg on the highway and I was used to my BMW getting 35 mpg mean. The gas mileage is absolutely the only shortcoming on this great SUV.
18 Months and 26000 miles, not one warranty repair. I continue to enjoy this vehicle

2023 Genesis GV70 2.5T 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
Bought in October had transmission issue from the start. I called they can’t find anything in computer. It won’t accelerate coming out of turns. My son thinks it a down shifting problem. But I am disappointed with the brand and service center just talk no help. Thinking of selling before I really have problems.

AWD 2.5 LT Advanced. Silver/brown Int. Great Crossover SUV. 3,000 miles, no issues
Love the Drive modes, used Sport driving to the coast/mtns, performed great. Went to the Snow, used snow mode, plowed right thru slippery roads. In Eco mode, been getting 22 MPG overall. The one drawback is gas mileage. Around town, not great, but the power is awesome, so good trade off. Paid $53k, best … value in the market.
DISAPPOINTING!!!

2023 Genesis GV70 2.5T 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
I have 2023 GV70 2.5T sport prestige trim This car is great looking from outside and luxurious looking from inside however , this car has a major issue currently which is a whining noise coming from the Rear Differential. First started hearing it around 4k miles. Have taken it to the dealership 3 different times and they have replaced rear differential , transfer case all those times … and yet the noise just happens to come back within couple of days of me having it back. In the process of having the company buy back the car from me under lemon law act. It's sucha shame that sucha good looking car with good tech and features and they release a recall and fix those faulty diffs and transfer cases. I hope they are reading this and act upon it before they get stain on their Reputation again.
