Should I by a Ford Taurus
Grandpa car? maybe? but I never had a problem with it. I change the oil semi regularly and only one break change in 7 years. Only one problem with heater/ac fan but it was covered by Ford. The was my first Ford and wont be my last. Buy American
Fix or Repair Daily Taurus
Bottom line: This car needed a new transmission at barely 80k. The new transmission is even having problems where the mechanic said the 2007 Taurus models have not changed. In other words, the Taurus is a time-bomb of junk. Multiple times the doors electronics have stopped working. Recently the drivers door had to be hard wired in order to roll down the window. The engine has started making noises, too, and the car doesn't have 100k yet. All services have been done to this car where it's now worth less than the transmission cost. The FORD Taurus is a prime example of everything wrong with FORD. Garbage, no parts, building nice looking vehicles not made for the long haul. Expect to start having problems around 60k. It's Toyota from here on out. I highly recommend researching any car, as this one has been a nightmare and by the sounds of it, most of them are.
Love my Ford
One year ago I was shopping for a car. I think I got a deal, and purchased an almost new, fully loaded 2003 Ford Taurus SEL Centennial Edition beauty with 7000 miles on it. Paid $14,000 plus $1500 premium extended warranty for 6 years or 75,000 miles. She was reliable. Love this car. I replaced factory tail lights with Altezza euro tail lights so she looks cool now. It still looks sharp on the roads; you might see many copycats around, as Hondas, Lexus and Toyotas. They are not fast enough to copy Focus and Taurus. If you are looking for Taurus, Duratec engine is a must. You will enjoy good acceleration.
Overall, A Great Car
I have had this car for 1 year with no problems. My only problem is that after only 1 year and 12,000 miles, the car is not worth anywhere near what I owe on it.
This is my 8th Taurus
I own a 2003 ses. I bought it with 40,000 miles for $9,500. It has all options except leather (I swapped the leather seats with my 2001 that I gave to the kids, it had 125,000 miles).I currently have 135k and am thinking about giving it to the kids. In all that time I have only done the brakes once as well as the stabilizer links. I completely tuned it recently. Since day one the transmission has hesitated when I started (when the car is hot) so I've learned to drive off easy. I average 22 mpg consistently on a tank of gas. I did notice the wheel well had some bubbling paint. Everything about the car is average, consider it's cheap and easy to fix. I own a 97, and 2-98's that my kids drive, I love them
