Used 2001 Ford Focus Consumer Reviews
The factory didn't tighten WHAT??
I bought my brand new 2002 ford focus on a thursday... by the following monday (only 200 miles later) i was experiencing a popping/grinding noise coming from the front right which appeared to be suspension related. So took it back to the dealer. Well it seems the factory forgot or just didn't tighten the sway arm links on the front passenger side, not only that i did find a rubber moulding that wasn't properly installed. The factory needs to employ people who don't forget to tighten up STEERING components. This could have been a fatal accident waiting to happen. Needless to say the dealership paid for the rental for a day and didn't charge me a dime to fix my car.
Still debating
When I bought it, it was the best value and the most pleasant car in its class. The problems I have had are minimal, however they are still problems with a car 1 year old. My DPFE sensor on my dash has malfunctioned twice. And I had that same chatter in the back window above 55 mph. Luckily I have not hit the big 36K yet. But when I do these defective pieces may come back to haunt me in the service dept. Other than that the car has been reliable.
Horrible Car...
I bought my 01 Focus used it only had 48k on it, 8 days after having it the front axel snapped, my fuel pump went out a couple months later, my timing belt went out after about 7 months both back windows motors went out after a year, the car idles and feels like its trying to die and not one mechanic can tell me why, I would never recommend this car to anyone, it is a horrible car and has left me stranded with my 3 children atleast 5 times. its poor quality for the price you pay.
Not bad at all
First of all this is an impressive car at an impressive price. While there are some build quality issues, the powertrain and engine are solid, and the engine (not a Zetec) does a decent job. My other car is a camry, and I must say that I would rather be in the Focus than the camry. Just wish I had waited a year for the ZX5
Great Car
There has been some bad stuff in the press about this car, but don't let that fool you. (Just ask Car and Driver, which the focus has been in the 10 best 4 years in a row) I am amazed at the quality and driving fun this car is for the money. 140k and going strong.
