Used 2001 Ford Focus Consumer Reviews
love/hate relationship
ive had my zx3 for 2 year this month. its the hottest little car for what i paid for it. im a big guy (6-2) and i have plenty of room in this car. fuel economy is OK, considering i drive about 400 miles a week. its rather quite (with new tires), but roomy!...the only gripes is that my focus was in the shop after 5k and 6 times after that, now its got 28k
An "Okay" Car
I bought this car when it was 5 years old with 67k miles. It did well for me the first year I owned it, but then I started having all kinds of problems: The vibration of the SOHC is so intense, I had to replace the motor mounts twice; the factory fuel pump went out (which I heard was a common occurrence for these cars); a power window cable snapped; the CD player started skipping, even with new CDs; and a valve seat fell out of the engine at 95k miles. Considering the age and miles of the car when I bought it, I didn't mind so much of the repairs though it did pull a chunk out of my wallet having been a college student at the time. The engine finally died at 137k.

Fun Driving Workhorse
I originally bought my Focus for the gas mileage as I have a 190 mile round trip daily commute. The zippy engne, and great handling have been a nice suprise. With 30k miles in 11 months the quality has been consistant with no problems to report. Really a great car.
Ford's got a hit!
Whew! Great car! We've only had it for a few months, but there have been absolutly no problems. We did have a couple of warantee issues, but they were very minor gripes. One of concern was a tire shimmy/balance issue. Suprisingly the dealer replaced the tire (Firestone) for no charge and the problem was improved.
Outstanding Driving Dynamics
Pros: The vehicle has excellent steering while the suspension provides a good combination of ride and handling. The engine likes to rev, but provides good low end torque. The interior materials are higher quality with many details (5sp "metal" shifter knob, "metal" accents in doors, "metal" dash plate, etc) than I would expect for this price range. My car's build quality is great. Cons: Ford saved money on the areas you don't see like the absence of inner wheel wells in the rear and a splash guard in the engine compartment. I don't like the Dash Panel.
