FX2 Snappy then Shaky

My 2012 FX2 EcoBoost F150 V6 3.5 L was super peppy when I got it and averaged around 20 mpg at highway speeds cross country. Pressing on the pedal hard was impressive. Then one humid day on I40 pressing on the pedal to pass resulted in bucking and halting. Long story short, there is a service bulletin on the turbo charger shield. It apparently collects water and then dumps it in your engine. I replaced the catalytic converter because it threw a code but it killed that one within a week. I found the bulletin online and showed it to the dealer. The did comply with the service bulletin and charged me for a second catalytic converter, but it has never been the same. Spraying some CRC in the intake did improve response and performance but still not the same. Mileage is now down to 18 mpg. Still slight hesitation when turbo kicks in. Over 110,000 on it. Update: I have 128,000 on it now. It is still getting about 18mpg. Had hesitation for a while. Corrected with new spark plugs. Had coolant leak which repair shops used a shotgun approach to find. Water pump was leaking and we wound up replacing pump, thermostat, hoses across the engine, and new belts because the old ones were soaked (and old so I’ll give them that) turbo is doing well. Runs well. Still pulls like it means it. Don’t want to get rid of it yet. Update 180000 approx now and small coolant leak from somewhere needs to be addressed. Noticed dashboard lights stay on so have to disconnect battery to keep from draining. Cause: shift assembly with many plastic pieces has broken and is not recognizing when in park. Must replace it, around $300. Still running good otherwise.

had truck around 6 mo. 2,000 miles on it. Dont drive it because it only gets 16 mpg highway at 75 mph. around 11 mpg in town. Bought it because of the great gas millage they advertise for the 3.5 ecoboost thought i would drive it more than my 2010 f150 supercab with the 5.4. but my 5.4 got 21 mpg compared to the 16 i get with this great new motor. Had it back to dealer, nothing wrong with it. This truck is also 2 wheel drive the 5.4 was 4 wheel drive. pull a 9,000 lb. fifth wheel with it. the 3.5 gets 8 pulling the 5.4 got 12, same trailer, same roads its really a really nice truck, but i wish i had my old truck back because of the mpg

Dealer uncooperative

Generally I like the truck, smooth, quiet ride, gas milage good for a vehicle this size.Edmunds list does not have the 3.5 eco boost engine. Some folks have had problems with it. So far good power and smooth. My complaint is with the headlights and taillights fog up on the inside. The dealer says it is not a problem. On an adjoining lot I found several other ford trucks, not my year, had leaking lights. I may go to another dealer or contact ford directly. Big blind spot on the passenger side where the doors meet and the pass. head rest. XLT Nav system is primitive/ confusing, probably will replace it with a Kenwood Garmin.

I like the truck. Last month (3/2020) at 94,000 miles I replaced all 4 rotors and brake discs. We often use the truck to pull our 31 ft travel trailer. I change the oil on a regular basis with synthetic oil. One issue I have had is engine hesitation when the truck is first started up. The issue goes away after a minute or two of driving. Another issue is the tail gate not always latching when closing. Sometimes requiring several attempts to properly latch. Gas mileage around town is ~14 mpg. On the highway ~19 mpg. Towing the camper ~9.5 mpg. The gas calculator for mpg and remaining mileage is not too accurate but gives you a ball park value.
