Used 2004 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.6L 8cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Great Car
The "new" Explorer is totally different from earlier models. Earlier models were much more "trucklike." This one is as smooth as silk. The engine in my 2004 Limited is a 4.6 liter V8, that is identical to that in the Crown Vic Sport, yet seems even more responsive in the Explorer. Appointments are well thought out and attractive. While I have only had the Explorer a short time, it seems to be a terrific vehicle.
Excellent Value - Great Car!
Currenty w/ 1500 Miles on the SUV (V8), the truck gets two thumbs up. IT was a great value ($42000 list) that ended up costing $32,000 + Tax. The ride, siz, and power are all great. The only bad thing I have to say about the truck is the Gas Milage is terrible (10 MPG City/13 Highway).

Remorseful
Features, style and price is impressive with other comparable vehicles however the GAS MILEAGE IS HORRIBLE. We will be trading this in very very soon. I had Jeep Gr Cherokee for years and I got tremendously better mpg.
Think twice
There has been a lot of mechanical issues with this vehicle. I have brought it to 3 different Ford dealerships, (as well as contacting Ford directly) and none of them will repair the vehicle. I was told by Ford in MI "I should of checked that feature when I bought it". I am currently considering filing under the Lemon Law. The vehicle is nice, but Ford doesn't back their product, and either does their dealerships. I don't recommend this vehicle.
Rear Axle Problem
Purchased this used last week. Heard a whine in the rear end. Took it to the Ford dealer and they are replacing the entire rear end. They told me that a few have come back due to this problem.. Gas mileage is 15 in the city and 20 on the highway. Engine is very quiet. Sometime you need to listen to see if it is running. I think the BF goodrich tires make the ride rough due to the tread design. The front rotors needed turned due to a vibration in the steering wheel between 40 - 6o mph. Purchase a Ford ESP extended warranty over the web from a Ford dealer for a better price. With all the equipment on this I think you will need it!
